I have a dell dimension E521 with the 810 printer using windows Xp. I am trying to connect the printer for faxing but I am completely lost. I am using a linksys e4200 router with a linksys cm100 cable modem. How to connect these units so it is possible to send a fax online? I cannot find a link for a setup poster and there are no images in the owners manual on how to do this.

I have a Cisco E4200 router.On the router's administration page, I set Static DNS 1 to 8.8.8.8 and Static DNS 2 to 8.8.4.4 and saved the settings.Even after rebooting the router, the Setup page shows the Google DNS addresses listed above, but the Status page shows 65.32.5.111 and 65.32.5.112 as being the DNS servers its using.

Currently my router is set to DHCP and I read and heard from other sources that a static IP is the way to go but I can't seem to get it setup when I follow youtube videos or read how-to guides.Which is the best choice for a solid connection? Port forward the ports need to play the game or setup a static ip or some sort of combination of both? How to setup a static IP with the linksys e4200? I also have a linksys repeater to boost the signal strength. Its the Linksys RE1000 repeater.Also, if you have any other suggestions that might be better such as leaving my router on DHCP and making changes somewhere else in the router configuration page (192.168.1.1).

Carriage house is 60' away from the main house. I want to place the E4200 in the main house and will send it the broadband cable signal from the cable modem. I'll wire ethernet directly from the E4200 to the DVR for DirecTV and will use another output to distribute to other computers in the main house via ethernet switch. I will place the WET610N in the carriage house and want to take to output from the WET610N into wired ethernet switch(es) there for access to the broadband from the house.

I'm using a Linksys E4200 as my slave router connected to the Time Capsule via lan to lan. I noticed the TC Internet Connection TCP/IP via DHCP shows a Subnet Mask of 255.255.248.0 and the Surewest IP of 74.222.246.23
Is the 248 setting one I will need on the slave?
The TC IP Address is 10.0.1.1 the DHCP Beginning Address is 10.0.1.3 to allow for the slave to have 10.0.1.2.
The E4200 is set as follows on the routers setup page, Internet Section to Automatic DHCP, Network Section to IP 10.0.1.2 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 and DHCP is Disabled.
Both routers have a SSID set to the same name.
Are all these settings correct? I've noticed that a device iPhone or iPad etc has a different IP address assigned by the TC depending on which router it is actually connected. I've also noticed difficulty of a device on one router communicating with one on the other.
Apparently the setup cd does not work with Mac OS Lion. Anyone else out there is using this router on a Mac running Lion...if so, how did you set up the router.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been playing around with my E4200 but cannot find the right combination of settings. My problem: I bought the router for cable internet that never happened. In the meantime I am accessing the web using a 3G dongle. Hoewever, while connected to the router (wired or wireless), all the PC's in my home refuses to access the 3G internet - it is as if it wants to use the E4200 to access the net, no matter what. So every time I want to access the internet, I have to disconnect the PC from the home network, and connect with the 3G on that particulat PC. (I have three PC's at home, 1 wired and two wireless). If I set the E4200 to bridge mode, I struggle to find a logical IP address, since I would ideally like to run the network at 192.168.1.X. How do I set the E4200 to allow a home network to be established without having to disconnect everytime I use the 3G on a PC? Also, it seems that if the router doesn't handle the DHCP duties, win7 by default makes the network public, which complicates sharing a lot...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just bought a Linksys E4200 from bestbuy tonight, mostly for the feature of plugging my hard drive into it to use it as a media server, and being able to read & write to it from any computer on my network. I have searched for hours on end trying to fix my problem. I login to my router (at 192.168.1.1), I go to the storage tab, I then click the "Create Share" button next to my WD hard drive in the list and nothing happens. Ive tried this on four different computers, and three different browsers now to no avail.

Hard Drive: WD 1TB
cannot find a button to enable wifi on wife's dell 1440. do not know the combination of function keys to enable wifi. self diagnostic says wifi is turned off.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI managed on my own to figure out how to Telnet in, activate the web control panel, and then access that via the web. Now here is what I am trying to do, it is not that complicated. We have a FIOS connection with 5 IPS: FIOS comes in as Ethernet, without DHCP.
What I want to Assign to Ports on the Switch:
1) Uplink to FIOS
2) VOIP PBX
3) Point of Sale System
4) Internal Network
5) Public Wifi
6-8: Not in use
Each of the above 2-5 will have a router connected to the switch port, each is a separate segregated network, with its Own public IP.
I want to configure the switch to prioritize traffic in the following manner:
Port 2: VOIP: Always gets TOP priority, then Port 3: PoS (but not that important), then port 4: internal (less important), then port 5: public wifi (least important).
I have a Dell Latitude E4200 laptop and this is connected to my home wireless wifi.

This is a new problem since installing the newest driver update because I could not connect at all or randomly. View 7 Replies View RelatedI have 2 sub nets within my office: 172.16.1.0/24 and 172.16.2.0/24. All devices on each subnet are wired independently from each other into the server closet. Previously each sub net had it's own switch in the closet to connect to that sub nets servers. We are replacing the 2 switches with a single Dell 2816 managed switch.
Is there a benefit to setting up the switch with 2 VLANs over just letting everything pass through the switch in un managed mode?
My only security concern is this: 1 sub net has access to the internet while the other does not. Does setting up 2 VLANs provide additional security by preventing 1 subnet from accessing the other? In other words, if a computer with internet access gets hacked will it being on one side of a VLAN prevent the hacker from accessing the other subnet?
I have just started using my D-Link 1310 Router after quite a few years of it laying around. I managed to get as far as connecting my D820 and my Desktop in a basic Network. I have Windows XP Home on both the Desktop and Laptop. The next step I want to accomplish is making the Laptop wireless with my apartment. When I first had the Router, I of course had Technical Support and my Warranty with Dell was still active, so I was walked through the process and took notes. The only file I made note of for this step was installing the driver (US) WLAN Card Rev.A12, but there must be something else that enables the WiFi catcher because I don't have any icon in the System Tray and no way to access it.
I also remember it being necessary to Bridge the Modem and Router, (I believe we did it from the Verizon site). Though I was told recently that Bridging is not used anymore, now they do a thing called "Double Netting"?
I just got a new Latitude E4200 with a Dell Wireless 5530 3G/UMTS/WWAN card. I installed Win7 and now I cannot locate a 3G/WWAN software (the drivers are working fine, but I just cannot find the software that allows me to connect with the Vodafone 3G/WWAN network). I am using the "Dell Mobile Broadband Card Utility" software on my D830 (5520 card; also on Win7), but I cannot find that software or its successor for the 5530 card.

I am trying to setup a new lab in an existing network. I have the following requirements: Some users should be able to connect to the servers from their home. i.e. over internet. All other users outside the lab should not be able to access it. I am thinking something like, creating a new subnet for the lab which can then be protected from the rest of the network through firewall settings. And VPN to allow access over the internet. Are there some better solutions or issues with my approach?
