Setting Up VPN In Windows 7

Feb 13, 2012

I need to setup a VPN with two Windows 7 computers to enable file sharing so that I can ideally map a network drive to the server from the client. Ive got it to the point where the VPN connects but when I try to ping between any of the computers on the two networks it doesnt go.

My client ipconfig shows:

Setting Up A Fixed IP In Windows 7

Jun 13, 2012

I want to make a small LAN, not connected to the internet. I open control panel/networking and find my Ethernet adapter. I unchecked IPv6 and click on IPv4 and select "Properties". I gave a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.1 butI can't ping 192.168.1.1

And a program I wrote can't access a MySql database on that address. I am using Xampp, the program can access the database if its connect string says localhost, not 192.168.1.1 Also, I can access through PhpMyAdmin and invoking MySql from a Dos box - so, MySql seems to be ok. Wondering why I can't ping, I run IPCONFIG and my Ethernet adapter's address is the old one, not the new fixed one that I assigned.

[UPDATE] I haven't attached a router yet, it's a stand-alone PC. Thanks for pointing out that the router, when added, will probably be 192.168.1.1 so I should probably make my PC 192.168.1.2. but my point here is that I can't ping what I thought I set as my static IP and, indeed, it does not show up when I run IPCONFIG - I get the previous value.

Setting Up Windows 7 File Sharing Permissions?

Jan 8, 2012

Im in the process of trying to setup a home network. Computer A and Computer B are in the same workgroup. Username/password are the same.

Computer A = Windows XP sp3

Computer B = Windows 7 sp1

The two computers can communicate on the network. Can ping back and fourth with ip and computername. Computer B can access from what I can tell the whole C:/ drive from computer A. Doesnt ask for a password or anything like that. Just works the way it should.

However, I cant figure out how to share the C: drive from Computer B with Computer A.

Computer B

Click on C: >> Properties >> Sharing
And this is what i see on the sharing tab

It looks like its shared cause i see the \inteli5c. But when i go onto the other computer I cant access it. This picture doesnt seem to want to work. But that link is the screen that comes up when i try to access the C: from the opposite computer.

Cisco VPN :: Setting Up 5505 VPN For Windows 7 Client

Feb 16, 2013

I have a client that has a 5505 installed. They want to VPN in with their Win7 laptop, but they don't want to shell out $1000 for the 10-pack Cisco VPN client.I have successfully setup the clientless VPN, and they can, through a browser, get to their files, but they'd like to map network drives so it's just like they're in the office.I tried setting the IP Sec up on the 5505, and then using  the built-in Win7 VPN network connection, but no go.I also do everything through the ASDM, but I realize some things cannot be done. I'd prefer to use the ASDM!Anyone else get this configured? 99% of what I see out here is how to connect the 5505 for site-to-site VPN.

Setting Up Windows XP Desktop As Wireless Access Point?

Jan 30, 2012

I have set up a home network some time ago, using a 4-port wired router. All four ports are in use, one of which by my own desktop computer running Windows XP Home, SP3.I recently received a new laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). Because I can't afford a wireless router at the moment, I've been trying to set up my Windows XP computer as a wireless access point (using a Wireless LAN PCI card), so I can connect my laptop to it and share my internet connection. However, when I try to set up an ad hoc network on my XP computer, it doesn't show up in the list of available networks on my laptop, though it does show up on the XP computer, with the message that it's waiting for other computers to join. The same thing happens the other way around. When I try setting up an ad hoc network on my laptop, it doesn't show up on my desktop computer.

Sharing :: Setting Up Individual Network Folders On Windows 7?

Mar 4, 2011

I have a small office (7) people and I don't have Active Directory setup. I'm wondering what is the best/easiest way to setup a place on a network server for the team to connect and put files that will then be backed up. With Active Directory this used to be a snap but I don't have much experience outside that realm. Here is how I'd like it to work:1) I login to server as admin, create the individual folders that users can map to. Example: Software Downloads, Jason, Robert, Billy, Carol2) I'd like to be able to set the security on the folders to say that everyone can view certain one but Jason can't view Roberts folder etc.

Netgear N300 Router / Windows 7 - Setting Up Network Drive

Mar 23, 2013

I've setup a home network using Netgear N300 wireless router (using Windows 7).

I'm trying to get one of my hard drives to be available on the network, so I went to the "sharing" tab of the HD's properties setting and allowed sharing on the HD and turned off password protection so that you don't need a password to access the HD.I also set the permissions to give full control, change, and read access to the "Everyone" group.

From another computer in the network, I tried connecting to the network HD but ultimately got "Access denied" despite the fact that I gave full control to "Everyone".How do I get the computer to be able to connect to the shared HD?

Can I restrict the set of rates my adapter can use (without re-writing the driver ). I've looked at netsh which provides stats about the rate my adapter is actually using but doesn't appear to allow me to set the desired rate. I'm using Windows Vista by the way.

Can't Logon To Windows 2003 From Two Specific Windows 7 Workstations?

Sep 18, 2012

We have a network of approximately 20 computers, network printers, and one Windows 2003 Server (used simply as a file server). I have an issue with two specific Windows 7 Pro workstations that just will not logon. The username and password details we're using are correct, but the server rejects them. I can logon using the same account from any other Windows 7 Pro workstation, or Windows XP station, so I know the issue is specific to the two workstations communicating with the server.

Both afftected stations show Logon attempted by: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_1_0 error 0xC000006A which all searches on Google point towards incorrect login credentials, however I've tried plenty of perfectly valid login credentials and they don't work either.I've tried checking that the 128bit option on the Windows 7 machines is disabled in file sharing etc.

Cisco VPN :: RV042 Quick VPN Windows 7 64 Without Windows Firewall

Aug 29, 2011

I have an RV042 setup for quick vpn access. The remote computer in question is a win 7 64bit. The PC uses McAfee SAAS firewall. This disables the windows firewall.

1. I can connect to the vpn with SAAS disabled and windows firewall enabled.
2. I cannot connect to the vpn with both windows firewall and SAAS disabled.
3. I cannot run SAAS and windows firewall together to check if this would work.

I need to figure out what windows firewall is doing to allow the vpn to connect, and so how do this with windows firewall disabled. I can then leave the windows firewall disabled and enable McAfee SAAS.The message quickvpn provides when it fails to connect is that the remote gateway is not responding. The client logs show that the tunnel had been opened but it was unable to ping.

We have a working configuration for L2TP-IPSec connection from a native Windows XP client to the ASA 5510. When trying to set up a connection from a Windows 7 client, the connection fails with the message that all SA proposals are unacceptable? Is this coexistence possible, and what parameters would I have to change to get this working. I have understood that the Windows 7 client requires som higher security proposals, but have not found what these are. And at the sam time we are concerned about not destroying the VPN connection for our existing XP clients.

Setting Up A Small LAN

Oct 14, 2012

I'm wanting to setup a small LAN in my office between 3 PC's for internet, file and printer sharing.each of the PC's has it's own printer connected to it and the idea here is to allow each of the PC's to have access to all printers at any time. Two of the PC's are running WinXP and one is based on Windows 7 Professional. The internet being used in our office is a shared 3G USB dongle (which we currently have to keep moving from one PC to another as the need be), so I'd like that when one PC is connected, all PC's should have access to the internet from that PC. (I would not like to connect the 3G USB dongle into the router).

Windows 7 Unable To Ping Windows XP?

May 20, 2011

My Win7 laptop was unable to ping another WinXP within the same network. When I first got this Win7 laptop, I experienced this problem. The WinXP laptop has no problem pinging the Win7 system. A visiting friend changed the setting on the Win7 laptop and suddenly the two laptops were able to talk to each other. I wiped the WinXP laptop a few weeks ago. Since then, the Win7 laptop is again unable to ping the WinXP. I have googled for many hours now. I tried just about all the methods that make sense to me but still cannot ping from Win7 to WinXP. How I can reestablish communication between these 2 systems on the same network?

Home Network :: Setting Up A VPN

Jun 17, 2011

I want to setup a VPN, probally more just for the experiance and to learn how to etc, but i also print remotely and view cameras remotely etc and i though it might be safer then port forwarding hundreds of different ports.First question, would it be better or safer to set it up in Windows XP or windows Server as i would have to purchase windows server. I have XP and windows 7. and, what exactly is a VPN. I have done some reading up, but was woundering how exacly i would for instance, remotely view my DVR (cameras) over a VPN. Also, i want the server to be a remote HDD to store and access all data remotely, Backing up etc. This i think VPN is more made for right? And, i will need a server (computer running at all times) to setup a VPN right? as where the router is always on and accessable. I can acheive this and i think this is what i need.So there it is, im new to this side of things done about all i can with the old router and looking at extending my knowledge. Also i wouldnt mind it being SAFE.

Ok ive finally got hold of something ive wanted to dabble around with for a long time now, my very own DSLAM! I have a Alcatel Lucent ISAM 7356, it has 48 ports for VDSL2 connections for POTS and xDSL lines, i know its backwards compatable with ADSL2+ aswell as VDSL2, Now heres where im struggling, i have no setup guide, no knowledge on how to configure the thing , it does have 1 lan port aswell as a 9 pin D sub console port and a fibre uplink port, i can power the unit on but i have no idea how to comunicate with the thing to configure it ( which will probley be another question when i get to that part) Just for your knowledge, ive been interested in setting one of these up to extend the reach of broadband from one house down the street where virgins network stops so i can bring high speed broadband right to the end of the street where i live.
