Dlink Dir615 - Router Shows Up As Both Secured And Unsecured
Sep 25, 2011
I'm running Windows 7 and have a dlink dir615 wireless router. I've had it for a year and never had this problem before. I changed the SSID to "router" and set a WPA encryption on the router's page. Now this SSID shows up and I can connect to it using the password I set, but it also shows up as a separate unencrypted connection under the default SSID "dlink".
How do I disable the unencrypted connection? I don't know why this is happening. I've set this up correctly a dozen times before.
I have a WTR160N-RM. I just moved and the cable technician hooked it up unsecured. I didn't catch it until he left. I can access the Linksys webite with the standard IP address and generic password, but I'm not sure what needs to be changed. I've looked at several UTube videos and read some online instructions, but they all different a bit. How I can secure my wireless again? I have an old Toshiba LT that just keeps on tickin'.
I'll try and keep this brief, we were having problems with our netgear router (DGN1000) mainly with connection when online gaming with PS3, generally poor connection - so purchased a TP-Link router (TD-W8960N). We could usually access the netgear wirelessly on our laptops Dell and Acer Aspire 4820T (both Windows 7) without any problems and were still doing so last night. However hubby attempted to install the new router last night and all seemed to go fine but after installing we couldn't connect to the wireless network through laptops, iphone ps3 etc - even though we could see the network with excellent strength, after hours of trying called TP-Link they went through everything they could think of and still no joy. Gave up in the end and went to reinstall the netgear Router and now we have the same problem with this router, even though earlier in the night it wasn't a problem - we deleted the previous networks so there was nothing stored in memory & tried everything we can think of (although neither of us are brilliant with IT we do usually get by).We even set up an unsecured wireless network (on both routers) and still couldn't connect?
I can go to the public library and log on without a hitch, but at a coffee house or cafe I can not connect. Sometimes it says 'cannot validate..' and sometimes it just says 'unable to connect to wireless network' What gives?

I'm not sure why the guest net work is unsecured. I would have thought that would not be an option but it is unsecured. How to secure the guest network [2.4 GHz]? Also when I view the guest list some devices stay displayed whether they are in the vicinity or even turned off. That adds to my paranoia with the guest network being unsecured. I also can't edit the screen names to know who the device belongs to like is available in "my devices", forcing me to keep a MAC address list.
I live in apartment house that recently had a "professional" (I use that term loosely) sell and install a wireless network for Internet access. I am the only tenant with any knowledge of computers and networking, retired after 30+ years in telecommunications including 7 years in an ISP doing project management. I am also the only user who spends any appreciable amount of time online. The apt owner did not know of my background when he had this guy contracted to do the work. The "engineer" did an inadequate site survey, not thinking of or allowing for RFI, EMI, walls or other obstructions and he neglected to see what the tenants' individual needs were.
The installation was finished more than a week past his due date because "ran out of parts". When he did the individual user setups (he included that in his quote, apparently) he attempted to garner extra business by claiming that the end users' machines were all full of spyware, malware, viruses and worms. At least 3 tenants had brand new machines that had never been connected to the Internet and all three were purchased from different large vendors. I checked the others and out of 17 machines only one had any issues of that type.
There are 3 access points in the building, all with the same SSID to accommodate any tenants wishing to connect anywhere in the building or in the patio area, similar to a hospitality application. Problem:This "engineer" is now refusing to work on the network because he thinks it's a "difference of opinion" when to me, everything points to a possible defective access point or just lousy administration by this guy. The reason I've come to that conclusion is that at random, my secure connection (WPA2) drops and reconnects as unsecured.
The installer is convinced that random dropping, etc is because of my "defective machine" that never had any issues with dropping from a hardwired connection. He told the apt owner that a direct wired connection to the router would not work. Contractually, we tenants cannot contact him directly with service issues. My purpose is just to get decent access.
Okay so for the past week i have battled with my two routers trying to make them talk to each otherMy main router (router A) is a dlink dir-615 ver. BMy second router (router b) that im trying to make talk to router A is a dlink router dir-615 ver E1 flashed with dd-wrt custom firmware.I have looked at every setup guide people have posted online and youtube videos to no avail
I have installed a DIR615 N Router and can get onto the Internet on the PC, but when I type in the device IP address it comes up with an "error" message so I cannot configure it.
I have an iBoss router at home that is secured. Occasionally, I'll noticed, I am no longer connected to the iBoss router and connected to an unsecured router named linksys?
I have flashed the firmware on my wireless wrrt54gl router to DD-WRT mini, i now want to set it up to connect to unsecured wireless around the neighbourhood, the only other network hardware at my disposal is a WLAN usb adapter and the Ethernet on my pc.
I'm going to upgrade the routers antenna with bigger omni-directional antenna, and connect to whatever networks pop up on the radar. How do i go about all this in regards to the settings on the router and/or computer?
I had a secure connection, after trying to change the passsword, it now is unsecured. I was trying to connect a new Ipad to my router but I have failed miserably.
How can I get my router a password and then use that password to connect an Ipad to my home network? I reset the router, but the connection is unsecured, I can't figure out how to get it back.
In the process of setting-up a E2500 Linksys router, I set-up my secured network which is working fine but also (I do not know how I did this??) set-up the same named network but it is unsecured. How do I delete this unsecured network.Do I need to set-up the router again?
I recently discovered the dd-wrt world and am attempting to make a wireless adapter for my Xbox360 using a D-Link DIR615 rev C1 router I purchased and linking it to my home wireless network router (also a D-Link DIR615 but rev B2). I successfully loaded the dd-wrt firmware onto the C1 router and have attempted (multiple times) to set it up for use with my 360 following the instructions posted here at the dd-wrt wiki posting. However, after following the instructions to the letter I have been unsuccessful. After setting it up I can get the router (connected via ethernet to my laptop) to "connect" but it lists the connection as connected to a "unidentified network" with no network access.
Now want set-up router as a repeater with a netgear WPN824NA as a base. The DD-wrt control panel I have never seen before now. Not sure of what changes need to made in the netgear control panel either.
I'm going to setup a wireless router but only run wired ethernet connections at first. whatever the walk through securing those connection are will not be a problem. however what about the wireless signal being broadcast from the antenna. any way to shut it down? is it necessary to secure that? I still need to keep others out of the network and stop others from using the connection.
I travel some for work. When not traveling my laptop connects directly to my company's intranet via a standard Ethernet connection. While on the road I use a wireless modem to pick up hotels wireless Internet. I connect and then log into a VPN to access my email and websites. This has always worked very easily incubus unsecure public routers.
However twice now , and both times on secure wireless I cannot even connect. My laptop easily finds the signal, usually really strong I click to connect and it never passes " validating identity". I know the secure routers password but it never even comes up to ask for it. Like I said it seems like it only happens on secure wireless routers. In this case it's frustrating because it's when I visit family and their home routers are set up secure with password.
I have a WRT54GS Linksys router. I have a personalized secured network (creags). My router is totally unplugged and disconnected, and I am still currently connected to my password protected network. Network authentication is set to WPA-PSK and Data encyription is set to TKIP. I cannot access my router's admin panel, even if I try 'admin' for just the password. I tried hard resetting my router (holding reset for >30sec, unplugging, plugging back in)-- nothing, and the network still shows up.
I had been using my printer through my linksys router with no problem until I added a password to the linksys. Now I can't print. My computer says it can't "ping" the printer.
I have an odd problem where every fortnight to three weeks none of my wifi devices (ipap, laptop, 2x android phones) can connect to my network (Linksys E2000, running firmware 1.0.04 with WPA2 personal). They can all see the network and try and connect, but all fail. Rebooting the router has no effect, and the only thing I've found that works is that I have to connect via ethernet cable (which works no problems) and then disable wireless security, save changes, and then immediately reenable wireless security and save changes again. All my devices then will automatically reconnect no problems. It's a bit annoying as my router isn't ideally placed to dig out the cable, but I wondered if there's any way of diagnosing what could be wrong? I've checked the router logs and they're not useful - the only thing I can see of note is in the DHCP log in the period when I suspect the problem arose I get 4 entries of discover / offer / request / ack going to 255.255.255.255 which seems unusual. But the security log is empty so I get nothing from that.
I have a Linksys E2500 router. Is it possible to have one network name for the secured network and a different network name for the Guest network? The thought is to not have the SSID of the secured network broadcast while allowing the SSID of the Guest network to be broadcast. With the convention of simply adding "Guest" to the end of the SSID for the secured network, it defeats the security option of not having the SSID of the secured network broadcast.
bought EA4500 router and successfully installed. The configuration of the desktop i use is - Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1, IE 9.0 and Chrome -23 Dual core Pentium, 2.5 GHZ, 2GB RAM Issue - Many websites, perticularly secured (HTTPS) are not opening up with new router. (Net banking, yahoo mail etc) I didn't face any issue with my old router which is WRT54GH, it is quite old router and did work excellent and working also. I had two calls with CISCO support team, they did check everything and came to conclusion that the issue is with router and asked to get it replaced. I did that but facing same issue. This time i connected my friends laptop to EA4500 along with my personal desktop. My company laptop has following configuration - Windows 7 Enterprise, IE 8.0 Dual core Pentium, 2.67 GHZ, 2GB RAM I tried yahoo mail, net banking websites on my desktop and friends laptop, these websites didn't open in my desktop but no issues faced on friend's laptop. I also noticed that cisco, apple sites are not opening on my desktop but no issue on friends laptop. I tried same thing with my old router WRT54GH, and all sites opened on both the PCs.
I have a Linksys Wireless G Model WRT54G2V1 using WEP encryption. I recently added a laptop. It can access various non-decured netowrks. It can see my home network but is unable to connect despite entering the correct passcode. how to get the laptop and secured network to communicate?
I have been putting up with rubbish wireless signal down one end of my house now for quite some time. So I thought I have a spare wireless router and I could put it down there but I am sure ts not as easy as just plugging it and away you go.
Network Setup
Router 1 is a D-Link DIR-655 Router 2 is a D-Link DI-524
I need to know how to setup Router 2 so it basically become just a wireless access point
My wireless network currently says un-secured. i try to connect and it tells me to enter my pin. i enter the pin on my router and it wont work. the problrm started when i was messing with my internet settings to try to make my wireless internet secured from other people. i dont know what i did but now i cant connect.
when i log onto my laptop a wireless network connection is always shown but i couldn't connect to that network because the error messege is allways shown
