Feb 9, 2011Unable to connect to a unsecured wireless network that ive been connecting to for the last year for about a week today i was able to connect when first starting my laptop but after shutdown and restarting an hour later same problem odd thing i find is there are two other laptops in my home that have no problem connecting to this network at anytime i have very little knowledge of laptops or wireless networks.

Dec 6, 2012Unable to connect to unsecured wireless sites using a USB Realtec high gain antenna on a Toshiba laptop running Win7 Pro, 64 bit. Network troubleshooter resets adapter but states it cannot correct the problem. Wireless adapter settings set to High Performance. Latest Realtec drivers have been downloaded and installed. Light on front of the laptop shows that the wireless function is running. Turned the function off, rebooted and then turned it back on. Same result when Toshiba is operating off 110v so power shouldn't be the problem.

Sep 18, 2011I share an unsecured network with my next door neighbor. The Norton Antivirus trial ran out on my new Sony VAIO laptop. Immediately after, it stopped connecting to our network (and any other unsecured network). I've tried turning off Windows Firewall, turning off Windows Defender, did a system restore, uninstalled Norton, used the Norton removal tool, installed and uninstalled another antivirus program (the one that Google Apps recommends... starts with an I), verified the wireless switch is turned on, rebooted my computer, did every update for both Windows and VAIO, booted in safe mode w/ networking, created a new profile... nothing is working!!!!

Secured Linksys (Cisco) Access Point Connects Unsecured Randomly?
Jul 6, 2012I live in apartment house that recently had a "professional" (I use that term loosely) sell and install a wireless network for Internet access. I am the only tenant with any knowledge of computers and networking, retired after 30+ years in telecommunications including 7 years in an ISP doing project management. I am also the only user who spends any appreciable amount of time online. The apt owner did not know of my background when he had this guy contracted to do the work. The "engineer" did an inadequate site survey, not thinking of or allowing for RFI, EMI, walls or other obstructions and he neglected to see what the tenants' individual needs were.
The installation was finished more than a week past his due date because "ran out of parts". When he did the individual user setups (he included that in his quote, apparently) he attempted to garner extra business by claiming that the end users' machines were all full of spyware, malware, viruses and worms. At least 3 tenants had brand new machines that had never been connected to the Internet and all three were purchased from different large vendors. I checked the others and out of 17 machines only one had any issues of that type.
There are 3 access points in the building, all with the same SSID to accommodate any tenants wishing to connect anywhere in the building or in the patio area, similar to a hospitality application. Problem:This "engineer" is now refusing to work on the network because he thinks it's a "difference of opinion" when to me, everything points to a possible defective access point or just lousy administration by this guy. The reason I've come to that conclusion is that at random, my secure connection (WPA2) drops and reconnects as unsecured.
The installer is convinced that random dropping, etc is because of my "defective machine" that never had any issues with dropping from a hardwired connection. He told the apt owner that a direct wired connection to the router would not work. Contractually, we tenants cannot contact him directly with service issues. My purpose is just to get decent access.

May 4, 2011So today the comcast guy came over and he put in a new modem cause the other one broke, i have a wireless router hhooked into it. its a WRT120N router from cisco. After the net was installed it was working on my phone and my moms laptop, but on my laptop it picks up the wireless signal but will not connect. It has updated firmware and has no wireless protection because i live in the middle of no where so no pass required. my Wireless card is a Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 5300 in a Ibuypower.com laptop. Due to me not having internet without a modem for the past couple of days i have been at a friends gaming with it and the net has worked fine, but yesterday during starcraft but laptop kept losing internet randomly like it was just lose connection but after about 30-60 seconds it would reconnect itself and id be fine. but when i tried to connect to this new modem at my house which my moms pc can and my iphone can, it just stops connecting like the little screen just disapeers without a reason why it failed. Im not sure what it can be but my drivers are updated and i was wondering if it could have been a virus but my computer is clean.

Apr 28, 2011Since successfully restoring my laptop to factory settings I have been unable to connect using my Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection.Initially it worked, but after a while it stopped. I have completed several system restores, and the wireless connection works for a few days. I recently upgraded my internet to a faster speed. I received a new router. I am able to connect my laptop via ethernet connection without any issues. I am able to connect my laptop wirelessly both at work and at school. I am unable to connect wirelessly at home. I can connect my stand alone computer to my internet connection. I am also able to connect my smart phone to this connection. When I attempt to log into the internet connection I enter the passphrase as instructed the entire screen goes blank and when I try to reconnect the computer is automatically entering a different passphrase and gives me a message "waiting for network" then it disappears and I am not connected - when I attemp to correct the passphase it will not store the new setting. I have tried updating the driver - changing the passphrase - restarting the computer, I have used the diagnostic check provided by Century Link and spent over 4 hours on the phone with them trying various things without any connection.
