View 4 RepliesI have two PC laptops. One operates Windows Vista, the other has XP. I recently just had to do a hard reset on my linksys wpn824v3 router and made a new network name and password. I also changed the password for the router (suspect I may have a virus). My girlfriends computer (vista) sees the new network name and connects fine, my XP computer doesn't even see the new network, but it sees my neighbors networks.. and the laptops are sitting right next to each other.

View 4 Replies View RelatedTrying to setup a repeater down stairs for better wifi signal but am running into a problem. The main router I use for my network is a Linksys WRT54GL. The router I'm trying to hook up as a repeater is a Asus RT-N10+. The issue I'm running into is that they both use the same IP address for the web gui so when I try to configure the Asus it goes straight to my Linksys instead.
I tried to disconnect the Linksys in order to get the Asus going in repeater mode but didn't work. What I'm wanting to do is change the router IP address on the Asus so I can have both of them online at the same time to get the Asus going as a repeater. I tried to change the Asus IP but when I did it asked me something along the lines of whether I wanted to change the DHCP address being it didn't match what I had typed in as the router IP.
facing issues with TP-Link TL-WA801ND while setting it up as a Universal repeater. The AP is a Linksys E3200..and I got the TP-Link to broaden my WiFi at home, I was successful in setting it up, however, after a day or two I get prompted to enter a "WPA2 Enterprise" username/password.I DID NOT setup WPA2 Enterprise, mine is WPA2 Personal...it's peculiar that it works for a bit then reverts to Enterprise.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless access point/modem at one end of my property (which I cannot relocate). To improve wireless connectivity on the other end of the property I am thinking of placing a wifi repeater (probably a cheap one like http:[URL]... mid-point in the property. However I don't quite understand how these things work. I assume repeaters, extenders, boosters are all the same thing?
Does the repeater actually create a new seperate wifi network, so I will effectively have two wifi networks/SSIDs? or will my wireless devices still see only one wifi network? If it creates two wifi networks what happens when I move through the property with say a laptop, will the laptop need to disconnect from one and reconnect to the other hence interrupting the connection? (which is not ideal).
Also does the repeater take up an IP from my main wireless access point/modem? My setup uses a block of static IPs and hence I would prefer not to waste an IP on the repeater if possible.Homeplugs is something else I'm looking into but that seems to be a more expensive option. With Homeplugs I would disable the wireless on the main access point/modem. Then use the Homeplug to put a wireless access point in the centre of my property hence giving fuller coverage.I've also tried higher DBi antennas (& directional ones) but they have not been effective.
Can a dir-815 be setup as a repeater?? I have a Linksys wrt54g as the main router can the dir-815 be used to extend the wifi range of the Linksys router. If the dir-815 can be setup as a repeater how would I go about setting it up as a repeater?

I have changed the WAP200’s AP Mode setting to Repeater, and picked up the 877W’s MAC Address. The WAP200 is broadcasting and I can connect to the wireless network, but I don’t get DHCP. It’s almost like it’s still in Access Point mode.
I have a existing WiFi ADSL router and I have a WAG120N lying spare in my closet. I recently shifted to my room a floor above. I wanted to amplify signals as the current router is not able to beam signals that far. Hence I wanted to set this up as a WiFi repeater to have a complete coverage. I tried N number of ways but could not succeed.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently discovered the dd-wrt world and am attempting to make a wireless adapter for my Xbox360 using a D-Link DIR615 rev C1 router I purchased and linking it to my home wireless network router (also a D-Link DIR615 but rev B2). I successfully loaded the dd-wrt firmware onto the C1 router and have attempted (multiple times) to set it up for use with my 360 following the instructions posted here at the dd-wrt wiki posting. However, after following the instructions to the letter I have been unsuccessful. After setting it up I can get the router (connected via ethernet to my laptop) to "connect" but it lists the connection as connected to a "unidentified network" with no network access.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly large area to cover with wireless, and set up a second router to act as a repeater. The signal works great, other than being extremely inconsistent. Sometimes I get a speedtest of 18 ping and 7 mbps DL to a nearby server, and 10 seconds later it's 300 ping and 2 mbps. There are no problems when using the primary access point without the repeater. Where should I start in troubleshooting? I can't see why there would be such terrible consistency since much of the time the signal strength is fine. It's purely a problem of dropping the connection often.

View 4 Replies View Related[URL] It works wirelessly, but I'm trying to get it to work physically. The end goal is to have my old PC as a server on the other side of the house, connected to nothing but the second router and a power cord. I know I could do this easily just by running an Ethernet cord across the house and skip using the second router altogether, but I'd really rather not.
