Wireless :: Setup Motorola 0XB9 As Wireless Repeater
May 29, 2012I'd like to setup my Motorola 0XB9 as a wireless repeater.

View 1 RepliesI recently switched from dsl to cable. I have a e2000 router that I would still like to use. The modem I have is a Motorola Surfboard SB6121. It has no options that I can modify. The modem has a built in DHCP server. However, I can't modify it and I don't like the ip configuration it uses. For the time being I have the modem connected to a switch which is working fine. What I would like to know is how to configure the e2000 to use the modems connection. I used PPPoE for DSL and had login information.

I recently purchased a Netgear WNR2000 to use as a router to connect to a Blue-Ray player to receive firmware updates wirelessly. On every attempt to access the netgear unit to set it up as a repeater, I get nowhere. I tried hooking the unit up to my laptop and login in under the admin account but again to no avail. I really don't want to have to disconnect the SBG901.

I have changed the WAP200’s AP Mode setting to Repeater, and picked up the 877W’s MAC Address. The WAP200 is broadcasting and I can connect to the wireless network, but I don’t get DHCP. It’s almost like it’s still in Access Point mode.
I use my e2000 as router and want to use the e4200 as repeater. so if i connect wireless to my e4200 i can see all my devices also the one on the e2000. How to setup the e42000 ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have 3 WAP200 wireless-G access points. I have one set up as an AP the other two are set up as repeaters to the main AP.
My question is Do I need a lan connection to each repeater ?
also, do I need to create SSIDs for all three? & if so, do they need to be the same?
Can the Aironet 1310 setup as a repeater? I could not make the AP as the repeater associated to another 1310 ap. This AP is running LADAP.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a WiFi setup where the wifi signal can go to 2 houses on my long-range property. One wifi router (Motorola WR850G w/ newest firmware update) is up on a pole between 2 of the houses. I could access it fine via wifi on my PC ever since i set it up a while back, but I was messing with it one day last week (nothing major changed), and all of a sudden now I cannot access the router setup page no matter what! (IP=192.168.10.1 by default).... it just simply times out now and gives me the 30 seconds loop to a page not displayed error in my browser.
I really would like to reset it via wifi, since its up powered on the pole outside, it'd be difficult to get up there and reset it myself. Is there a way I can get access to the page again in any way, by only using wifi from my PC????
The WiFi works great either way, and pinging to the router is 1ms so I just don't get it! Things I've done:
1. Pinged router, pings fine from any PC via WiFi...
2. Changed PC from DHCP, to 192.168.10.8 to get a non-used IP, since maybe it was timing out to the 192.168.10.7 IP I was using via DHCP. No go, it still times out no matter which PC or IP I have!
I am trying to get my parents Kindle Fire to work. They recently purchased a Motorola Modem/Router which is hooked into the desktop and works fine. I want to get their new kindle to work and can not seem to figure it out. Their operating system is Vista which I can upgrade to Windows 7 if that would make it easier. When I click on setup the WiFi part of the installation wizard cd that came with the Motorola it says there is not a network adapter. I know what that is however I do not know why I would need it when the desktop is hooked directly into modem/router and I just need the WiFi for Kindle.
View 12 Replies View RelatedAny setup passthrough mode of the Motorola NVG510 router ATT makes you use with U-Verse to a CISCO 877 or similar, with a block of public addresses they want to use? It is So frustrating that I have to deal with this NVG510. It is NOT a very business class router... I am assuming that I need to put it into "pass through" mode for the Cisco to be able to manage what happens with my assigned public addresses. If there is another way, let me know!
Here's what I plan to do: I've read the "related to" post above, about putting the NVG510 into pass through mode, and I plan to do this as it discusses. I'll assume that works for now. But it will assign the router's WAN IP Address to the router's "outside" interface, not one of my private IP addresses. On the Cisco side, here is what I would do: vlan1 interface is my "inside" private network. Create vlan2 interface using dhcp to get IP/gateway from the nvg510, or set it up manually, whichever works... This interface will be the "outside" NAT interface. But this interface's address will be the router's WAN address, NOT the first of my 5 public assigned usable addresses...
Here is how it will be setup:
interface FastEthernet0
switchport access vlan 2
[code]...
Then - make it my default NAT interface: ip Nat inside source list 110 interface Vlan2 overload
If I stop there... I assume I could then NAT ports from my different private addresses to the various servers in my office. But the router won't have an interface with that first assigned-to-me public address. The reason I ask is that we have a site-to-site crypto- map defined, and the interface it is defined on determines the IP Address it will communicate from. I wanted this to be my own assigned public address, not the WAN address of the router... Not sure how I would do that though... Same with the default NAT assigned to vlan2 - by default machine in access list 110 will get to the internet with the WAN address of the nvg510, not my private address.
Can I create interface vlan3, somehow linked to vlan2, give it the first private address in my block, and then move the cypto-map to this interface, and also change the default Nat to vlan3 now instead of vlan2? ip nat inside source list 110 interface Vlan3 overload
How would I go about doing such a thing? I am not a Cisco expert, I understand just the basics... This is a bit more complicated than I can figure out. Or maybe it is not possible? Will I have to, for any computer that needs unsolicited traffic through the internet to use one of my assigned public addresses, to setup a one-to-one NAT for that address to that internal address? And everyone else is stuck using the WAN address. If this is the case, it is not right... What were they thinking when they designed this router and forced us to use it as a business class U Verse customer? This should NOT be so difficult/complicated.

View 4 Replies View RelatedTrying to setup a repeater down stairs for better wifi signal but am running into a problem. The main router I use for my network is a Linksys WRT54GL. The router I'm trying to hook up as a repeater is a Asus RT-N10+. The issue I'm running into is that they both use the same IP address for the web gui so when I try to configure the Asus it goes straight to my Linksys instead.
I tried to disconnect the Linksys in order to get the Asus going in repeater mode but didn't work. What I'm wanting to do is change the router IP address on the Asus so I can have both of them online at the same time to get the Asus going as a repeater. I tried to change the Asus IP but when I did it asked me something along the lines of whether I wanted to change the DHCP address being it didn't match what I had typed in as the router IP.

View -1 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless access point/modem at one end of my property (which I cannot relocate). To improve wireless connectivity on the other end of the property I am thinking of placing a wifi repeater (probably a cheap one like http:[URL]... mid-point in the property. However I don't quite understand how these things work. I assume repeaters, extenders, boosters are all the same thing?
Does the repeater actually create a new seperate wifi network, so I will effectively have two wifi networks/SSIDs? or will my wireless devices still see only one wifi network? If it creates two wifi networks what happens when I move through the property with say a laptop, will the laptop need to disconnect from one and reconnect to the other hence interrupting the connection? (which is not ideal).
Also does the repeater take up an IP from my main wireless access point/modem? My setup uses a block of static IPs and hence I would prefer not to waste an IP on the repeater if possible.Homeplugs is something else I'm looking into but that seems to be a more expensive option. With Homeplugs I would disable the wireless on the main access point/modem. Then use the Homeplug to put a wireless access point in the centre of my property hence giving fuller coverage.I've also tried higher DBi antennas (& directional ones) but they have not been effective.
Can a dir-815 be setup as a repeater?? I have a Linksys wrt54g as the main router can the dir-815 be used to extend the wifi range of the Linksys router. If the dir-815 can be setup as a repeater how would I go about setting it up as a repeater?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Motorola SBG 900 Wireless Surfboard Gateway with Timewarner service provider. I have couple of problems....
Problem 1 : I use VOIP phone (Vonage) which connected to my Motorola wireless device, current when i call somebody using VOIP phone, they can hear my voice but i cant hear them... Last years i dont have any problem but last one month above problem exists.
Problem 2: I tried Speed test with cable (13MBPS download stream) but through wireless (6MBPS download stream)
I have Bright House as my ISP and did not want to pay a monthly rent (and an additional $45 for installation) so I decided to buy the SBG901.
Long story short I discovered that the variable and slow wireless speed is because of the wireless feature and not Bright House.
Have tried to modify several settings (as the ones found on Amazon's reviews) but still get 4-5 MB instead of the 7MB that I get with a wired connection and sometimes I do not get any wireless internet at all !
I am about to purchase a modem and a separate router if I can't find a solution for this. Unit is out of warranty so Motorola won't assist either.
I own a Motorola SurfBoard SBG900 wireless modem. It has worked fine for years. I just went on vacation for 2 weeks and unplugged my computers, printer, modem etc. Upon returning I can not get any wireless signal from my sbg900. The wireless light at the bottom is no longer lit up either. I can connect via ethernet cable however.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running a Motorola Surfboard Extreme 6580 as my modem and main access point, but I have equipment downstairs in my home theater that I need LAN connections for. I want to set up another router/device as a wireless-n bridge to plug these into, and I don't want to spend more than necessary, but I want the best performance from my 6580. As the 6580 is only singal band, and my wife's computer only runs on 2.4ghz, I think I don't really need a dual band device, but a single band n device. I bought a netgear WNR2000v3 router, but when I try to bridge it (enable wireless repeating function) it tells me that I can not enable this function with AES, TKIP, or AES + TKIP enabled. The 6580 tells me I should use AES to get the best speed, and the WNR2000 won't let me use any security when bridging (the router's menu page hints tell me to enable WEP, but I don't even see an option for that, and it's pretty worthless as security I've been told). I think I need to return this WNR2000v3 and get something else.

View 4 Replies View RelatedLooking to add my belkin wireless router to Sbg6580 router as an access point to extend wireless. I've read up enough to understand the fundamentals - LAN to LAN, changing IPs, turn off DCHP etc. - but am confused by a couple of things.
First, belkin faqs says to Open the router page, click on "use as access point" (I get that) "Select Enable" (I also get that), and then it goes on to say "This will give you the options to set the IP Address and Subnet mask for the router.**These settings should match your existing network settings; by default the IP address will be set to 192.168.2.254 and the Subnet mask will be 255.255.255.0". Does this mean to set the IP address of the Belkin to that of the Motorola (which is 192.168.0.1) on this page?
Then the FAQ goes on to say access the LAN and "change the IP Address to something such as 192.168.2.47 or you can use 192.168.2.200.**As long as the first three sets of numbers match your existing network, you will be fine". I thought the LAN IP address should fall outside the DCHP range of the Motorola? So if the DHCP range for the Motorola is 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.250 then I'd assign 192.168.0.251 to the Belkin?
Suddenly either of my 2 wireless routers won't work. Modem works fine directly to pcIntroducing wireless router to the mix, not working. Everything hooked up correctly.
