Cisco Switching/Routing :: 877 / Motorola NVG510 - IP Passthrough Mode Setup
Feb 14, 2012
Any setup passthrough mode of the Motorola NVG510 router ATT makes you use with U-Verse to a CISCO 877 or similar, with a block of public addresses they want to use? It is So frustrating that I have to deal with this NVG510. It is NOT a very business class router... I am assuming that I need to put it into "pass through" mode for the Cisco to be able to manage what happens with my assigned public addresses. If there is another way, let me know!
Here's what I plan to do: I've read the "related to" post above, about putting the NVG510 into pass through mode, and I plan to do this as it discusses. I'll assume that works for now. But it will assign the router's WAN IP Address to the router's "outside" interface, not one of my private IP addresses. On the Cisco side, here is what I would do: vlan1 interface is my "inside" private network. Create vlan2 interface using dhcp to get IP/gateway from the nvg510, or set it up manually, whichever works... This interface will be the "outside" NAT interface. But this interface's address will be the router's WAN address, NOT the first of my 5 public assigned usable addresses...
Here is how it will be setup:
interface FastEthernet0
switchport access vlan 2
[code]...
Then - make it my default NAT interface: ip Nat inside source list 110 interface Vlan2 overload
If I stop there... I assume I could then NAT ports from my different private addresses to the various servers in my office. But the router won't have an interface with that first assigned-to-me public address. The reason I ask is that we have a site-to-site crypto- map defined, and the interface it is defined on determines the IP Address it will communicate from. I wanted this to be my own assigned public address, not the WAN address of the router... Not sure how I would do that though... Same with the default NAT assigned to vlan2 - by default machine in access list 110 will get to the internet with the WAN address of the nvg510, not my private address.
Can I create interface vlan3, somehow linked to vlan2, give it the first private address in my block, and then move the cypto-map to this interface, and also change the default Nat to vlan3 now instead of vlan2? ip nat inside source list 110 interface Vlan3 overload
How would I go about doing such a thing? I am not a Cisco expert, I understand just the basics... This is a bit more complicated than I can figure out. Or maybe it is not possible? Will I have to, for any computer that needs unsolicited traffic through the internet to use one of my assigned public addresses, to setup a one-to-one NAT for that address to that internal address? And everyone else is stuck using the WAN address. If this is the case, it is not right... What were they thinking when they designed this router and forced us to use it as a business class U Verse customer? This should NOT be so difficult/complicated.

Does the Motorola NVG510 have a built-in firewall or do I need security software to provide a firewall?

I recently got a Motorola NVG510 (from AT&T, they changed our internet plan and sent a new router) and since then I've had problems with Skype. I think I've narrowed the problem down to there being no upnp on this router to enable, and Skype doesn't like that. So, is there any way I can make this option available, or some other way to 'simulate' upnp so Skype will play nice? I read somewhere else that "IP Passthrough" may be an option, but I'm unsure about that.

I am working on IPSec Passthrough on an ASA 5520, with version 8.3, and ASDM 6.3. Currently I have a requirement for users in my internal network (10.10.249.128 / 25) to be able to connect to external IPSec VPN servers.
So I created a network object with 10.10.249.128 / 25, and used dynamic PAT to translate the source ip address to the external internet facing outside interface:
I then added the following rules on the inside-in ACL: However troubleshooting shows that isakmp is passing through the firewall, but esp and ah is not.
For isakmp:
For ESP:Seems like the nat rule is drawing my ESP traffic,

I received the following info from Cisco's TAC and wanted to inquire further before I start reconfiguring the switch:
In a redundant Sup-6E setup, the following configuration is supported :
- 1 TenGig uplink on Active Sup and 1 TenGig uplink on Standby Sup
- 1 TenGig uplink on Active Sup and 2 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup
- 2 Gig uplinks on Active Sup and 1 TenGig uplink on Standby Sup
- 2 Gig uplink on Active Sup and 2 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup
If you invoke shared backplane mode, the following configuration can also be supported:
- 2 TenGig uplinks(blocking) on Active Sup and 2 TenGig uplinks on Standby Sup
- 2 TenGig uplink(blocking) on Active Sup and 4 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup
- 4 Gig uplinks on Active Sup and 2 TenGig uplinks(blocking) on Standby Sup
- 4 Gig uplink on Active Sup and 4 Gig uplinks on Standby Sup
Here's the command and information about the "shared-backplane" mode :- [URL]
Currently, we have 2 SUP 6-Es(Module 5 - Active and Module 6 - Stand-by) setup in a redundent mode. I am planning on changing the redundent mode to the shared backplane mode so I can use 2 TenGig converters to uplink 2 access-switches. We purchased 2 TenGig converters and here is how I am planning on using them:
1- One will be used to uplink to two 3750 switches(stacked)
2- One will be used to uplink to a 2960 using a Gig SFP
My questions are:
1- Do I have to install the 2 TenGig converters(4-Gig Uplinks) in the same Module? Or can I use one one in module 5 and the second one in module 6?
2- Will changing the redundant mode to the shared backplane mode require rebooting the switch or disrupt the funtionality of the other linecards?

I have a WiFi setup where the wifi signal can go to 2 houses on my long-range property. One wifi router (Motorola WR850G w/ newest firmware update) is up on a pole between 2 of the houses. I could access it fine via wifi on my PC ever since i set it up a while back, but I was messing with it one day last week (nothing major changed), and all of a sudden now I cannot access the router setup page no matter what! (IP=192.168.10.1 by default).... it just simply times out now and gives me the 30 seconds loop to a page not displayed error in my browser.
I really would like to reset it via wifi, since its up powered on the pole outside, it'd be difficult to get up there and reset it myself. Is there a way I can get access to the page again in any way, by only using wifi from my PC????
The WiFi works great either way, and pinging to the router is 1ms so I just don't get it! Things I've done:
1. Pinged router, pings fine from any PC via WiFi...
2. Changed PC from DHCP, to 192.168.10.8 to get a non-used IP, since maybe it was timing out to the 192.168.10.7 IP I was using via DHCP. No go, it still times out no matter which PC or IP I have!

I am trying to get my parents Kindle Fire to work. They recently purchased a Motorola Modem/Router which is hooked into the desktop and works fine. I want to get their new kindle to work and can not seem to figure it out. Their operating system is Vista which I can upgrade to Windows 7 if that would make it easier. When I click on setup the WiFi part of the installation wizard cd that came with the Motorola it says there is not a network adapter. I know what that is however I do not know why I would need it when the desktop is hooked directly into modem/router and I just need the WiFi for Kindle.

I recently switched from dsl to cable. I have a e2000 router that I would still like to use. The modem I have is a Motorola Surfboard SB6121. It has no options that I can modify. The modem has a built in DHCP server. However, I can't modify it and I don't like the ip configuration it uses. For the time being I have the modem connected to a switch which is working fine. What I would like to know is how to configure the e2000 to use the modems connection. I used PPPoE for DSL and had login information.

We have a network in place. A week ago we switch to AT&T's UVerse and they replaced the Motorola modem with a Motorola NVG510 modem/router. There was a Netgear router behind the original Motorola but since we only needed 4 ports I pulled that out of the loop and used the Motorola. The three computers connected directly to the Motorola came right up. However, there was a switch with two computers connected to it and when the switch was connected niether of the computers connected to the switch would go to the internet. I took one of those off the switch and connected directly to the Motorola and immediately connected to the internet. Put it back through the switch and nothing.

I'm currently pursuing to take my CCNA and am currently studying for it, but have recently encountered a problem with one of my 1760 routers that I can not solve.Yesterday I went to boot up my router like normal, however when I went into hyperterminal I noticed the router was in Rommon mode. Thinking I could change the configuration registry, I tried to bypass the NVRAM by using confreg 0x2142. However this still causes the router to go into Rommon mode. I am getting an error that states that there is insufficient memory to load the IOS image. [code]
I have used the dir flash: command and can see the IOS image, and try to boot from it (boot flash:iosimagename) but it will still go back into rommon mode. I also just swapped the RAM from my other 1760 into this 1760 and it booted up and went into normal configuraiton mode without any issues. However, the other router now will not load it's IOS image and I get the exact same error.I'm at a loss here, and have searched to figure out where or how I can just wipe the router clean to try and start fresh, but cannot get out or Rommon mode. The only thing I can think of is that the RAM went bad since it wont boot up either machine.

it says that the cisco sg300-28 managed switch default system mode is Layer 2. but i want to change it to layer 3.
i can't get inside the "Console Interface Main Menu" where the switching from L2 to L3 will be done.
I have done the ff:
1. Upgraded firmware to 1.1.2.0 (latest)
2. Reset the switch to factory defaults.
3. The guide stated that in order to perform telnet to the switch, you need to enable it. So I logged in first in to the web GUI and enable telnet service.
4. I can now start telnet on the switch but I can't see the "Switch main menu".
All I can see are these lines from telnet:
User Name:cisco
Password:******
switchd5928c#
I just want to know how to get into the console interface main menu where these lines should appear so that i can change the system mode:
• System Configuration Menu
• Port Status
• Port Configuration
• System Mode
• Help
• Logout

We have two 6500s. One is running in power redundant mode and the other is running in combined mode.We need to change the one running in combined mode to redundant mode to ensure it can run ok on one supply if needed but I have a couple of questions.
1. Assuming that we are not oversubscribed on the power allocated, does changing the mode cause any disruption?
2. The switch running in combined mode seems to have allocated some power for an "Inline Local-Pwr-Pool" which is not allocated on the switch running in redundant mode (see attached). Does this allocation will be needed if we change the power mode?

I have a user who is a work at home. She has an 871 Cisco Router with is connected to an ISP modem. Lately she has been getting connectivity issues. And a tech from the ISP troubleshooted it and said that the Cisco Router was not pulling an IP address. He said he queried the modem and got a null response on the IP address of the router. He cleared the ARP cace and rebooted the ISP modem; still the Cisco Router would not get an IP address. However when I went into the router, I noticed that there were many log alerts. It seems that the router is in quiet mode.
Code...
Would quiet mode cause the router to lose connectivity or cause to not pull an ip address?

Im looking for some clarification regarding running a Cisco ASA in transparent mode with multiple contexts. To give you an insight into the network design we have the following -
Collapsed Core/Aggregation Layer running Cisco 3750s. The 2 Cisco 3750s are using SVIs with HSRP for default gateways per customer with a total of 8 customers. Each customer is segregated into seperate VLANs with Cisco 2960 switches used in the Access layer. Each customer has 2 Cisco 2960 switches with redundant uplinks to the Core/Aggregation layer. Customers are spanning tree loadbalanced between core/aggregation switches.
What i need to now do is add two transparent firewalls into the mix in either an active/active or active/standby setup. I need the firewalls to support all 8 customers, therefore I am guessing they need to run in multiple context mode. Having read into this it has left me somewhat confused as to how to integrate them into the above setup as a bump in the wire so to speak.

We have a 6513 with about 8 switches in it. I installed a Intel Pro PT NIC in a Dell PE2850 and setup the Team setting which created a bridge in the network connections.
10 minutes later, every server connected on that 'blade' went down and rebooted.
This happened once before to another tech here (I didn't know at the time it would do this but after he saw it he pointed it out)
