Motorola NVG510 / Enable Upnp On A Router That Doesn't Have The Option

Dec 20, 2011

I recently got a Motorola NVG510 (from AT&T, they changed our internet plan and sent a new router) and since then I've had problems with Skype. I think I've narrowed the problem down to there being no upnp on this router to enable, and Skype doesn't like that. So, is there any way I can make this option available, or some other way to 'simulate' upnp so Skype will play nice? I read somewhere else that "IP Passthrough" may be an option, but I'm unsure about that.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 877 / Motorola NVG510 - IP Passthrough Mode Setup

Feb 14, 2012

Any setup passthrough mode of the Motorola NVG510 router ATT makes you use with U-Verse to a CISCO 877 or similar, with a block of public addresses they want to use? It is So frustrating that I have to deal with this NVG510. It is NOT a very business class router... I am assuming that I need to put it into "pass through" mode for the Cisco to be able to manage what happens with my assigned public addresses. If there is another way, let me know!

Here's what I plan to do: I've read the "related to" post above, about putting the NVG510 into pass through mode, and I plan to do this as it discusses. I'll assume that works for now. But it will assign the router's WAN IP Address to the router's "outside" interface, not one of my private IP addresses.  On the Cisco side, here is what I would do: vlan1 interface is my "inside" private network. Create vlan2 interface using dhcp to get IP/gateway from the nvg510, or set it up manually, whichever works... This interface will be the "outside" NAT interface. But this interface's address will be the router's WAN address, NOT the first of my 5 public assigned usable addresses...

Here is how it will be setup:
interface FastEthernet0
switchport access vlan 2
[code]...

Then - make it my default NAT interface: ip Nat inside source list 110 interface Vlan2 overload

If I stop there... I assume I could then NAT ports from my different private addresses to the various servers in my office. But the router won't have an interface with that first assigned-to-me public address. The reason I ask is that we have a site-to-site crypto- map defined, and the interface it is defined on determines the IP Address it will communicate from. I wanted this to be my own assigned public address, not the WAN address of the router... Not sure how I would do that though... Same with the default NAT assigned to vlan2 - by default machine in access list 110 will get to the internet with the WAN address of the nvg510, not my private address.

Can I create interface vlan3, somehow linked to vlan2, give it the first private address in my block, and then move the cypto-map to this interface, and also change the default Nat to vlan3 now instead of vlan2? ip nat inside source list 110 interface Vlan3 overload

How would I go about doing such a thing? I am not a Cisco expert, I understand just the basics... This is a bit more complicated than I can figure out. Or maybe it is not possible? Will I have to, for any computer that needs unsolicited traffic through the internet to use one of my assigned public addresses, to setup a one-to-one NAT for that address to that internal address?  And everyone else is stuck using the WAN address.  If this is the case, it is not right...  What were they thinking when they designed this router and forced us to use it as a business class U Verse customer?  This should NOT be so difficult/complicated.

Cisco Firewall :: DPC3825 Built In SPI Firewall

Jul 11, 2011

We recently got a Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway from Rogers since we're under their Rogers Extreme package and because the last gateway they gave people under that plan was garbage.

Now, when we got the gateway, I went ahead and forwarded all the ports I would need for my Xbox Live, I also went ahead and manually set up our primary and secondary DNS servers as google's (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) I did this on our last gateway as well (though only with a primary DNS) because Roger's DNS is very unreliable and google's proved to be much better.

I'm stating this becuase that's all the alterations made to the gateway. The internet, though very fast, is occasionally choppy. Occasionally, it will not slow down, but cut off all together. So let's say I'm buffering a video, all of a sudden the video will simply stop buffering and will only start doing so again if I reload the page or try to move specifically load a part of the video. This also translates to terribly unreliable connections when I'm playing online. The connection will fly from excellent to terribly erratically.

So now I'm wondering how can I deal with this. Do I have to disable the SPI firewall and blocking unknown internet requests? Is it the google DNSs I've set up that somehow don't work with this gateway?

Routers / Switches :: Can't Connect Ethernet To NVG510

Aug 25, 2012

We have a network in place. A week ago we switch to AT&T's UVerse and they replaced the Motorola modem with a Motorola NVG510 modem/router. There was a Netgear router behind the original Motorola but since we only needed 4 ports I pulled that out of the loop and used the Motorola. The three computers connected directly to the Motorola came right up. However, there was a switch with two computers connected to it and when the switch was connected niether of the computers connected to the switch would go to the internet. I took one of those off the switch and connected directly to the Motorola and immediately connected to the internet. Put it back through the switch and nothing.

Built New PC And LAN Port Isn't Working

Sep 30, 2012

I built a pc asrock z77 pro3 mobo, i5 3570k 3.4ghz, ati 7950, 8gb kingston ddr3 1600mhz ram, corsair 650w psu, a hyper 212 evo and a 500gb hdd with a 128gb ssd all in a cm haf912 case.My problem is that everything works fine except for the inbuilt gigabit lan port. I'm accessing the net through an old pci-e slot network card i found, and I'd really like to use the inbuilt gigabit port. The realtek drivers do not appear under device manager. I installed the latest network drivers from asrock - (Realtek Lan driver ver:7048 for 64-bit win 7), I tried various things I read online like removing the ram for a few minutes, disabling the NIC and sleep mode. I always get this message when installing the driver: "Realtek ethernet cable was not found if deep sleep mode is enabled plug the cable" I've done everything I've read online and from reformatting to removing the ram.In the bios, i made sure the adapter was enabled. another thing is that there is no light coming from the port when the lan cable is inserted into the port. there is a light from the pci adapter so i'm not sure if it's faulty. I've also checked that the cables are fine. I hooked them up to my macbook and ps3 and the network was fine.

Cisco WAN :: No Gui On 887VAW Built In AP?

Jun 6, 2013

I have had a replacement router sent out to me due to a fault with the AP.

It had a really old firmware on the AP, which I have updated. Using CCP, I have a wireless network running which is more than I had with the old router.

The issue I have is that there is no gui, just a webpage with a few lines showing commands etc.

I know tha CLI is probably more powerful, but I prefer a GUI.

Looking at the flash of the AP, there seems to be lots of files, which I imagine are part of the gui, so its really just a case of enabling it I would assume.

Just Built New PC - Slow To Zero Upload Speed

Jun 27, 2012

This is the first PC I have ever built, but I built it with a buddy who is very experienced and everything went okay. The computer is maybe 3-4 weeks old now, everything is running fine, until today when I decided I wanted to try streaming some Diablo 3.This is when I discovered my upload speed was absolute garbage.I have verizon FIOS - I pay for 15/5, the download speed is always at 20+ mbps, I have never had any problems with it., but my upload speed is fluctuating between .34-1.5 mbps, changing every second.I know this is a problem with the computer because I brought in my old laptop, unplugged the ethernet from my new desktop, plugged it into the laptop in order to keep all variables the same, and it was getting 25/5 without any hesitation. When I was downloading the drivers for my mobo I installed something called Windows Firewall with Advanced Security(maybe that was with a windows update, im not sure).

Specs of my PC (if this matters)

-Asus P8Z77-V LK
-8g ddr3 Ripjaws
-i7 2700k
-Corsair H60
-EVGA GTX 670
-Crucial 128g M4 SSD

Can't Connect Using IP Phone's Built-in Router?

Dec 28, 2012

I have no problems when the computer is connected to a router. That's how I'm posting here now. But my router is old and has no QOS. So the sound quality is choppy when I connect the phone to the router. So I tried connecting the phone directly to the cable modem, with the computer using the phone's router for internet. The phone's sound quality is great that way. But then the computer won't connect to the internet. When I hover over the network icon in the systray, it says "Local Area Connection 4 is now connected. Speed: 1.0 Gbps" The phone's router is a gigabit connection. So I think that tells me that the computer is seeing the phone/router and the cables are okay.I just tried to Repair through the network icon. It fails because it can't renew. I checked Window's Event Viewer to see what kind of error that might have created. This is the error:[CODE]

Built-in Wireless Adapter Cable Unplugged

May 15, 2011

Last night, my internet was working perfectly and I closed my computer lid before going to sleep as usual. This morning, I wake up to use my computer and the internet isn't working. I check the icon at the top and instead of showing an empty wireless meter with an X over it, it shows a computer and a cable with an X over it, which isn't normal. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 5532 with a built in wireless adapter and it has a button near the power button that turns the adapter on and off. I decided to turn it off, give it a while, and turn it on, but that didn't fix it, so I restarted the computer.

Now, when I try to turn it on an off, it gives the wireless symbol with a circled X over it. I have checked the device in Device Manager to see if it is working and it says it is working properly. So I uninstalled it, restarted and the computer automatically installed software like it should, but that didn't fix it. I tried a System Restore, but that didn't work as well. Another thing I should mention is that I have tried rolling back the driver (which didn't fix anything), then I updated it, which also didn't fix anything.

Is there anything else I should try? The only thing Diagnostics can detect is an unplugged cable, but it's built in, so it doesn't require a cable (I've had it for >1 year and this is the first problem I've had).I downloaded Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and it says no wireless adapters can be found.

Sb6120 Newly Built Desktop - Want Wifi

Aug 4, 2012

I'm setting up Blast! Comcast/Xfinity internet (50mb/s) using an SB6120 modem and a linksys E3000 router. I haven't done anything yet, as i haven't received the modem in the mail yet, but i want to be prepared and knowledgeable when it all arrives. Here are my questions I've heard that running this router/modem setup on the N band at 5Ghz provides the best signal strength. How do i configure this? The main goal is to take advantage of as much of the 50mb/s as i can (i know this number is not practical due to overhead estimations etc).My newly built desktop has one free PCI-E slot (the other is occupied by my EVGA GTX 670) and 1 or 2 PCI slots. What's the best option to give my desktop wifi capabilities (pci card or usb adapter) in order to maximize signal strength? I'm about 10 feet away from the router, a door separates the computer from the router.

Cisco WAN :: 1921 - Routing Between Built-In Interfaces

Nov 19, 2012

I am trying to figure out exactly what I need to buy to to connect to an ISP's fiber switch. We need to install a router between the fiber switch and our own core switch to be able to access the IP's allocated to the property. We installed a 1700 with the below config, but we want to purchase a brand new router and we were looking towards possibly the 1921 if the budget allows. Our distributor is telling us that we need to purchase an Ethernet WIC also, but if the router already has 2 ethernet interfaces, why do we need to purchase more hardware? I am a little out of the loop with routers at the moment, so I am not sure if they correct or not, just looking to see if this is the case and if so, why?

interface Ethernet0/0

full-duplex

interface FastEthernet0/0
