Easiest Way To Image About 15 Computers Over A Network Over Night?
Oct 30, 2012
As the title says, I would like to know what are some ways in which a group of computers on a network can be imaged at the same time over night. The reason this must be done is because in the training room at where I work, each different training session configures the computers differently, so it would be nice to have them all start off from the same point, rather than a new instructor having to learn all of what the previous instructors had done to the computers.I know some ways in how to image multiple computers. A little background on the environment:
About 15 computers connected a cross a network
Must be repeatable, and remain available (no dismantling)
Image will be Win7 32 bit, with applications already on it
Must be able to run, and complete over night
The image must be pushed out from one computer to all of the others
The OS of the computer doing the pushing can either be Win7 or XP

We have WCS and several WLCs (WISMv1, 5508, 4402) all running the 7.0.240.0 code. The "Guest" SSID is "garden-walled" from the corp LANs. We used to have web-auth page that required ID / PW. This became unreasonable as IT Dept was getting requests at all hours for immediate access from guest / resident family memebrs. So we changed the web-auth to remove the the ID / PW and just display corp policy and have to hit a "continue" button to gain access to Guest SSID. Healthcare staff on the floor are not tech-savvy enough to want to use or perform Hotel Ambassador functions. The issue now is that we have employees with smartphones, tablets and even personal laptops conecting the Guest SSID. Sr. Mgt wants to find a way to stop the abuse.I do not believe there is any perfect solution to prevent employees from gaining access, but have been asked to find a manageable method to deter most employees from connecting to the Guest network. Looked at seing up MAC filtering in WCS, it seems that you have to enter MACs that you *allow* on to the network - by default, other MACs are blocked. I would rather have the template block the MACs listed in the csv file and allow access as the default.. We have several SSIDs. Our corporate SSID uses 802.1x and we use Microsoft Server 2012 Network Policy Server (RADIUS) to pass user ID / PW to our AD for authentication. We do not have Cisco ACS. I am not sure if integrating RADIUS is the answer here either. I have had some webex sessions on ISE, NCS, and Prime infrastructure. We are only interested at the moment to monitor / control access to Guest. I have been told that ISE will have "sponsorship" functionality added in soon -- where user fills out info and ID / PW is sent via text or email to a cell phone or other device.

Is there an easier way to connect an RJ45 connector to a Cat5 cable, rather than the traditional method of lining up the wires by hand, inserting them in the right order into the jack, and then crimping it? It just seems like it would be very tedious if you had to do this A LOT, and I've had a good bit of practice. I saw that they make "EZ RJ45" jacks.. but do they make anything else that can make it easier? I'm asking out of curiosity, and not necessity. I have no problem wiring them, but it's just something that I hate to do (I think a lot of people would agree that it's not the most fun thing to do in the world of networking).

I just purchased a E2500 wireless router to upgrade from the previous G- router which I was using. I'm not very experienced in tech issues and would like to know, what would be the easiest way to extend my wireless signal through out the house. The E2500 which I just purchased does not cover all the areas in my household.

I'm looking at adding a Cisco 3750-X switch running c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE1 (IP base license) into a stack of 3750-G switches running c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE1.bin Given that the version and feature sets are the same I don't forsee any compatibility issues. Would there be any reason why a universal image wouldn't stack correctly with other switches running the single .bin file?

Recently, my PC has been losing connection to the internet at 1am.It doesnt tell me its lost connection and when i repair the connection it says that it has been repaired - but nothing will connect to the internet and the Zone Alarm symbol stays static instead of its usual green/red activity bars to let me know data is moving in and out.
My xbox is fine all of the time and the other computers in the house are also fine when i checked them at night.- I also checked the ethernet cable from my pc to my xbox to see if that could be the issue - but the xbox worked fine with it.

Just set up 2 dcs-942 cams, and both were working fine. Now for some reason, the ir on one is not working, or very dim. This is in complete darkness, and its not seeing anything beyond 3ft. I've tried unplugging it, but didn't work. I haven't tried a hard reset yet, but may have to. Btw, no difference even if I force dark mode.

I've had enough of BT's shoddy Home Hub router dying whenever I transfer large files over wifi so I want to go back to a trusty Linksys and I'm looking at the WAG320N.
I've got a family member who is convinced wifi is harmful, so to avoid an argument I've agreed to switch it off at night. My last Linksys let me do this via a custom firmware, but the WAG320N isn't a Linux based model. So, my question is: can I set wifi to switch itself off at night from e.g. 11pm until 8am? Preferably this will be an actual switch-off rather than just preventing access via certain wifi devices.
If it can't do it, any alternative Linksys ADSL2+ modem that can?

I have a DCS-932L camera setup in my living room with motion detection activated in DView. During the day it works great, but after nightfall the camera shows random lines in the [poor] video. These lines are being picked up as motion and as such the camera records all night long taking up massive amounts of disk space. Even when I put the camera motion detection on 'lowest' value, it still picks it up.

Our DIR-615 has started freezing and when reset (power cycled), it reverts to factory settings. This has been running 24/7 for several months with no problem. Three days in a row now I've woken up to find our home network is down and the DIR-615 status lights are "yellow". Power cycling the DIR615 resolves the problem however the DIR-615 looses its settings, reverting to factory defaults (looses the admin password, wireless settings, etc). I can reload the settings from a file saved on my computer but needless to say, this is a bit annoying. I don't believe there are any wireless clients connected at the time as most of the wireless is served by an airport two floors up. There are several wired devices always connected:
a Zoom ATA carrying our "land line"
a tivo (doing whatever tivo boxes do)
a SSL based Voip phone (different than the zoom ata)
an AirPort Express 802.11n (bridge mode) which may have a couple of wireless clients
a laptop which may or may not be sleeping at the time
There are a couple of ethernet switches in the network. Some of the devices acquire addresses via DHCP, others are assigned fixed addresses outside the range of the DHCP addresses served by the DIR-615.Nothing has changed on the network in months.
The only settings I've messed with on the DIR-615 are:
a) set the admin/user passwords
b) Set the wireless network name, enable WPA, set the WPA Key
c) enabled ntp (this is now disabled and I've set the time manually)
d) Change the network base from 192.168.0. to 192.168.4.
The DIR-615 is hardware rev E3, Firmware 5.10 The cable modem (from RCN) is a Scientific American model DPC2100R2

I have an XP machine that is unable to see any other computer on the network. I disabled the firewall and I can ping any device on the network with no issue. I have set several other computers to the same workgroup which is mshome. Lastly I have read several other post and tried the ideas there including this one...Finally, let's do the stack repair.TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.
Start, ]R[/B]un, CMD to open a command prompt:
In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:
Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.
Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reboot the machine. That did not seem to work. As I am still in the same situation.
another note. This is the only XP on the network. Everyone else is Windows 7. Also on a side note, the reason I am doing this is to install a printer on this one and allow the other computers to print from it and seeing folders is good also.
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Upstairs
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown[code].....

My home network was made up of a desktop running windows XP home (wired) and a desktop also running XP (wireless). I have recently added a desktop running Windows 7 (wireless) to the system. When I turn on the Windows 7 machine, it sees the other two machines and I use the files from them easily. But after the new machine has been on awhile, it does not see the other computers. (I can, however, still access the shared files on it (the Windows 7 machine) from the other desktop (haven't checked the laptop). If I power down the Windows 7 and then turn it back on, the other machines show up immediately. I've got them all named to the same workgroup and in the network settings in the control panel, I think that it is set to discover the network.
