PC Loses Connection At Night But Xbox Is Fine
Jul 19, 2011
Recently, my PC has been losing connection to the internet at 1am.It doesnt tell me its lost connection and when i repair the connection it says that it has been repaired - but nothing will connect to the internet and the Zone Alarm symbol stays static instead of its usual green/red activity bars to let me know data is moving in and out.
My xbox is fine all of the time and the other computers in the house are also fine when i checked them at night.- I also checked the ethernet cable from my pc to my xbox to see if that could be the issue - but the xbox worked fine with it.

I have an old laptop in another room running WMC with windows 7. This is wired to my new DIR 655 router then via a switch to another room to my xbox 360. I have successfully connected the xbox as an extender but after a few minutes of idle time, the connection drops and my xbox automatically restarts. If I'm streaming something it seems to work fine.

There are 2 XBox's in the house and 1 is downstairs wired into the WRT320N Router. The upstairs XBox is running wirelessly through the router. Each of the XBox's work fine playing Modern Warfare 3, when only one is playing, but if both of us are playing, the wired connection works great, while the wireless connection is really slow and laggy. Again, the wireless XBox runs fine as long as the wired XBox isn't also playing MW3.

I have Roadrunner Turbo and when it's online it works fantastic but after a couple hours or a days the modem loses it's connection for 30 minutes to many times a whole day or two.
When it loses it's connection I've tried disconnecting the modem and the router, waiting a minute and plugging it back in. I've tried reconnecting the cable wire and nothing works. I've even tried going to the TWC center and replacing the modem with a new one and it still happens.
The router I have is a WNDR3700 and it works great. We never lose connection to the router but the modem will lose its connection for when this happens the router's usual lights are on and we are all still connected to the router but the modem has only 2 solid lights and 1 blinking one.

I currently have a d-link DIR-615E3 with the latest dd-wrt firmware (v24 from 2010-12-13). Everything seems to be ok when I boot up the router - with factory settings and unsecured wireless, I have an internet connection. When I enter the GUI, create a router username/password, everything is still fine. Then, when I create a wireless security password (WPA2 personal) I lose internet connection, and the only way to get it back is to do a hard reset of the router. This also happens if I change any setting within the ddwrt interface, not just the wireless settings. (I also have a linksys WRT54GL with ddwrt with absolutely no problems) My cable modem is a motorola surfboard SB5101U, ISP is comcast cable, running windows 7.

On comp B, everything is as it should be.Everything on comp A was working fine last night, and now today i cant even watch a youtube video.

Mediacom is my cable provider. They came out a few months ago and thought the problem was their Motorola modem. They replaced it with an RCA (Thomsen) which worked great for about 3 months. Now (3/13) I am losing my connection at least once a day.I started to download the new Netgear Firmware update, but in the middle of that, you guessed it, the connection dropped. So now my router is useless. There's probably a way to reset it, but I haven't found that yet. And so far the Netgear phone # is locked inside the router somewhere! I'm hard-wired to the RCA modem now, so we'll see. I have a feeling, after reading the previous thread, that my connection will be fine.I have my own cable modem, needed for a previous cable provider, and a new Netgear N600 2-frequency router.

Network was:
AT&T Broadband ISP
LanCity LC-PET3 cable modem (non DOCSIS)
Linsys 4 port hub
2 Win98SE PCs
All worked fine
New network is: Same as above, with a Linksys 1 port router (BFSR11) between the cable modem and the hub.
Router is configured to be a DHCP server (default configuration).
I assigned the router a custom WAN side MAC to match one of my two PCs to avoid having to call AT&T to get things running.
Results: Everything runs perfectly fine initially, but after leaving and coming back to either system (left on, in standby) after quite a while (going to work / bed), the network connection is dead.
WINIPCFG still reports the same IP, but seems to hang forever if I attempt to release / renew. The router's is unreachable for configuration / status (it's still on the default IP of 192.168.1.1) Pressing the reset button on the back of the router restores the internet connection (quickly too - I'm back online in about 15 seconds).
Entering standby manually and coming back out again after just a couple minutes does not affect the internet connection - it seems to only occur when I'm off for an extended period of time. I have no had the time to determine what the period of time is, and if it is a fixed time since DHCP lease / initial startup, or if it is a fixed amount of inactivity time (or maybe even not a fixed amount of time at all).

In the room with the dsl modem there is the Linksys E3000 wirless router. My desktop will randomly lose connection with the router yet other devices that use wifi in the house work fine (ex: ipod touch, android phone, and xbox 360.) i have went through and reset all devices and gave the desk top priority in the network but it hasnt worked. The desktop uses XP.

I'm currently using a Lenovo V360 and my issue is that my computer, which connects via wi-fi, disconnects from the network randomly. The network will be completely removed from the list of available networks. The other networks available will still be visible. I tried turning off the wi-fi button on my laptop and turning it back on, but the list of available networks still does not include the network I was recently connected to. The only way to see the network on my Lenovo is to restart the computer. The connection works perfectly after I restart. It is definitely not the network's problem because I am still connected to the same network with my other laptop. If necessary, my laptop runs Windows 7, my router is a D-Link, and the encryption is WPA.

Basically my modem will randomly disconnect (all the lights shut down expect for the power one) for 2-3 seconds max and it happens just at a random time. When I'm on my PC I barely notice cause I'm not consistently loading something up. However, when I'm gaming (PS3) it's really frustrating because I will always get disconnected. The router is working fine and my PS3 is connected by wire. What should I do? Can it be my internet provider?

I've recently had to switch to a wireless network, buying a brand new Netgear DGN220v3 (which works great, by the way) and an Asus PCE-n15 network adapter for my desktop pc. Now, the signal could be slightly better, but it's pretty fine and quite fast when available. The problem is sometimes the adapter just seems to "forget" all the active connections and doesn't see any connection at all for a couple of minutes. It's updated with realtek drivers, I've tried using the Asus utility as well (which installs realtek drivers anyway + a -not so useful- program)

My laptop loses connection to the router.... constantly. When it disconnects I check my available networks and the laptop will not pick up any... neighbors or my own, I refresh they show up ...I have my network set as the preferred so it will always attempt to reconnect when available; Sometimes it starts to reconnect then drops off and cannot see available networks again! If I am able to reconnect... Sometimes I don't even have time to refresh my browser before it disconnects again; however sometimes I stay connected for hours at a time, other times/days just can't stay connected very long and becomes so frustrating that I just shut down the laptop and say "Fahgetaboutit"
I thought it was the network driver and a intel has an update(even though my LT doesn't show that I need it), I downloaded the update first knowing that I would be with out internet service after removing the old driver software but the new software installation always gives an error that it cannot install with older version present even after I'm sure I've removed it ... Not sure what to do... I ran cmd: ipconfig /all>network.txt&network.txt and here is the result of that straight from the activated notepad:

I have a fibre optic internet connection, the modem being connected to the TP Link wireless router. The set up works fine most of the time, but at times all the computers connected lose internet connection. The ISP says everything is fine from their end, and locally we are all connected to the wireless router just fine when this happens. I usually just unplug the modem and the wireless router from their power, in order to reset everything, and this seems to solve it.

The only way i can figure out how to restore the router is to reset and reinstall from factory state.I can recreate this on 2 different router "825" with factory and updated firmware.I have removed the wireless extender form the picture and this issue has stopped, it might be the extender of a client off the extender. But everything uses DHCP so I'm not sure why ip address conflicts could cause this issue.

I just got my first wi-fi printer, a V715w. Even though the Wi-Fi light on the front of the printer is green, I very often can't print to the printer. I get a box saying the printer can't communicate with the computer. I would have thought that the green light was signifying that Wi-Fi communications existed. Wrong? Then what does the green light signify? When I check the settings on the printer front panel, it shows the all the correct info, SSID, etc.. Do I need to do something each time before I try to print in order to ensure a wireless connection exists? Shouldn't the printer stay connected to the Netgear dual band wireless N router all the time? The computer, Win XP, sp3 stays connected to the router all the time. I expected the printer to do the same.

What I have. 2 - WLC2125 controllers. Second unit is failover purpose only.
19 - Cisco Access points. AIR-LAP1242AG-A-K9 - All powered by Cisco Power Injector AIR-PWRINJ3.
Issue: 5 AP's in another building loses connection to the network and drops off from the Controller. Sometimes it's all of them. Sometimes it's just 1 or 2 or 3 of them. Happens very randomly. Somtimes once a week. Sometimes, once every two weeks. Only way that I know how to get them back up is to just power cycle them. Once power cycled it comes right back up.
This has been happening for awhile now and I really need to get to the bottom of this. I understand it can be number of issues, like cabling, or power issues but what I really need is a steps to troubleshoot to narrow down. what to look for, settings on controller? etc...

I live out in the country at the end of a very long copper cable and my internet connection is never great at the best of times. Also live in an old house with thick walls so the family are always complaining about the poor wireless connection. So I bought a new router, netgear DGN3500, which on the whole seemed pretty good out of the box, but now it is randomly dropping the internet connection. Sometimes this is solved by rebooting the router, but just now this didn't do it and only turning it off completely for 30" and turning it back on again gave me back my connection (DownStream Connection Speed 3680 kbps, UpStream Connection Speed 416 kbps - which is as good as it gets on the end of my phone line).

It's fixed easily, I just disconnect and re-connect to the network, but I was wondering how I could fix this permanently. The amount of time I have before each time it goes Limited varies, could be 5 minutes to a few hours. And I know it's not the network but my laptop because other laptops connect and have no problems. My D-Link DIR-300 very often loses connection on wired and wireless connections. It stops connecting to Internet randomly i.e. any URL typed in from the browser times out.I connect various devices such as desktop, laptop, ipad2 over wired and wireless connections and the behavior is the same from all devices when this problem occurs. If I make a direct connection to the DLS modem, it works fine for the whole day, without these issues.I also observed IP address conflict messages and my desktop does not connect to Internet if I am running VPN on my laptop, at the same time, occasionally. When this occurs, I am able to login to the router and can see the WAN status and the DHCP address being allocated to the router. I can even do DHCP release and renew, but that does not fix the problem.

I have a problem with a client/server app: It is a web application that resides in C:inetpubwwwroot (aspx pages) of the server. The client is a Windows app that is installed into Program Files on the clients and when running receives commands from a webservice on the server. When I install it on a PC on our own test environment it communicates with the server perfectly, no matter how many times I re-boot the client, the connection never goes down. When I give the client to someone on a separate domain, they install it and everything is OK. However, once they reboot the PC (Windows XP) the connection to the server fails. The can still ping the server from the PC, they can even see the web service is up and running by typing into a browser but the connection now fails. If I get them to uninstall the client all and re-install, it is fine again. As I say, it is a reboot that breaks it (communication to the web service that is.) My problem is that I am completley blind to the setup on the client-side of those I give it to (I only email it to them, I have only been in the site once). The PC is obviously on a domain (with static ip addresses I assume) but other than that i know nothing. I think it is something similar to the way when you map a drive in Windows and then when you reboot it has lost the connection and you have to re-map it.

When ever my roommates and I turn on or turn off a computer or device to log onto our wireless network that computer or device and all other computers or devices that are on the network lose internet connection for about 3 minutes. After that period then all devices gain access back. We have a Cisco Linksys router, Model number WRT110, it is the Range Plus version. I got it 6 months ago from a friend that had never pulled it out of the box or used it. I used it before moving and it did not have this problem. I have recently purchased a new laptop (less than a week ago) and since purchase I have had the same recurring problem. Coincidentally, my wireless router is brand new also, and so it makes the situation even more difficult to eradicate. My laptop connects to the router wirelessly without a hitch, however, every five minutes or so, a small yellow exclaimation mark appears alongside the 'connection symbol' and it says there is either 'No Internet Access', or 'No Network Access', despite the fact it is connected to the wireless and has a full strength connection. However, my brother's laptop connects and surfs the web seamlessly, as well as the family desktop PC and various mobile devices. I am reluctant to return the laptop back to the store?

So, I have to disconnect everything, bring the 1522 back to my main PC, attach it, let it connect properly, then unattach and re-attach at it's use site.

Region : Canada
Model : TL-WR700N
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : latest
ISP : Cogeco
I have a WR700N set up in bridge mode so as to provide a wifi signal in far end of our home. I used Bridge so we can tell which router we are connecting to. So we have two SSIDs (MySSID1 and MySSID2) Both with secure log-in. This works fine for about a day, and then disconnects. I then have to mess with the WR700N by plugging it in and out, maybe logging into it and changing something. Then it will work again - for a day
I updated the firmware with no change. Main router is a Dlink 615 with IP of 192.168.0.1. connected to cable modem. TP-LINK is set at default of 192.168.0.254 and gets a wireless signal from dlink. In an attempt to improve situation, I now have both units set to channel 11 and with fixed 20Mhz channel width. b/g/n on TP and g/n on dlink.

I had an experience this week of installing a 5510 ASA with 8.4.3, also tried 8.4.4(1) with the strange effect that I randomly was losing contact with the internet. The interface stayed up/up. no errors or what so ever on the interface. Reseat of the DSL wire no result. Reseat of the outside interface cable made it work again. And after some time lost connectivity again. It did not recover by itself so had to let someone do a reseat again and again and.... The outside was using DHCP client. A lease was given and an IP also. Nothing strange to find. Talked to the provider which could see the DSL and the DHCP lease. Finally I downgraded the firmware to 8.4.2 and the problem was solved.
