Frequent Ping Spike Comes And Connection Non Responsive
Sep 19, 2011
I am running XP pro. I have checked thoroughly for viruses/malware/etc. and everything appears to be clean. I have up to date drivers for NIC's, have cleared all temp data, done basically everything that the first tier Time Warner Cable(my ISP) tech support people will tell you to do as they read from that frustrating script we're all too familiar with and have had to deal with time and time before, including resetting modem and router, bypassing router, etc. etc. et bloody cetera.Ran several pings to a variety of servers and noticed ping spikes every 10or so seconds into the 300-600 range from an average of about 20-30ms.
My computer is says there's no network cable plugged in when i have it plugged in to my smc router but when i plug it into my cable modem i get signal . Ive updated my drivers. my network cable is good i tested it.. all the other computers on the network see the router.
I keep losing connections to the internet and getting a couple of different messages that the Gateway IP address is invalid. There are times it happens every few minutes and other times I can go for a couple of days without it. Also, we have to have satellite internet which has such an inconsistent speed. Is it the internet speed inconsistency or the 4 year old Belkin N Router?OK, so I tried to copy the information from the CMD window, but I can't get it to work. After I got the information and right clicked and clicked "select all" then what. I couldn't copy it. I can't find my way back to the instructions.
I am running Windows 7, Time Warner Cable is my ISP, I am using a Netgear wireless router, and a netgear wireless card to access the signal
The problem started a week ago. While playing online video games (Battlefield 2), I will get a message on my screen telling me theres a problem with my connection. Sometimes it will only freeze up for 5-7 seconds, and sometimes it is up long enough to make me lose connection to the server.I am not having ping problems, the server is not kicking me for that. All background programs are closed, ive tried restarting everything I have thats related to internet and my computer.
My VPN connection is dropping every few minutes for a few seconds at a time over VPN on the E3000. It wreaks havoc with the applications that require a constant connection.
Having several issues w my E1200. For quite some time I have had intermittent loss of internet connection. This was somewhat true even before I got a wifi router. & it has continued. Recently it has been even worse & I'm not sure if it is my isp, my cable modem or the router. ISP came out & checked & said signals looked ok, although modem is old.Now i find out that the version of Cisco Connect that i had been using is incompatible w Mountain Lion so it won't work now. & newly downloaded dmg files say they are damaged (or that app has been modified or damaged--I'm not in a position to tell which but same results after I downloaded a 2nd time).
I have been having more frequent loss of internet connection at home. & when I click on the wifi icon to check, it shows it looking for networks. Also it has not been uncommon to see that it has switched to my guest network. Why would it switch to my guest network? What is the difference between the 2 besides the fact that I guess the guest network doesn't have access to everything on my regular network (which right now is only my iPhone, but may get wireless printer). Also when it shows the lists of networks that it "sees" my guest network does not show a padlock icon so what does that mean? It does have the default password.
Also because I had no idea that Cisco Connect was not compatible w Mountain Lion I didn't even think to check for upgrades before I upgraded to Mountain Lion & now I can't open Cisco Connect. Shows unsupoprted OS. & I'm also stalled trying to update the firmware for the router.I'm really beginning to see why it was cheaper than an Apple Airport Express. Even at a very low hourly rate, the lost time spent when this has not been working right has not been worth what I saved on the purchase price.
Recently acquired a Dell Inspiron 6000. I had the hard drive clean off and Windows XP reinstalled. I have no problem connecting to the internet when I power up if I go through "repair connection". I have to do nearly every time I power on. How do I get it to stop? My other Inspiron had no problems connecting.
My Wi-fi on my rig seems to have some odd problems. When I'm gaming i often get a lag spike every 10-20 second or so, and before I got the "Vista anti-lag" program I was also getting the enormous 60 second lag spike. I'm sure many Vista users recognize this problem. But here is the deal, the first kind of lag spikes completely disappear while talking on Skype! Which makes me wonder, what is it with Skype (only while talking) that removes the lag? Gaming with Skype makes all games run fluently without any spikes at all.
In our ASA 5520 " tmatch compile thread" process is taking too much CPU while applying ACL for a moment . CPU goes to high and then back to normal .. The code is 8.2(5) . Is this a normal operation or abnormal .
I have a T1 connection to one of my sites, I am running HREAP with 4 AP's. I have been noticing a spike in traffic from my AP's to the WLC. Even when no one is on the wireless. When you use encryption (DTLS) should this cause spikes on the T1 ?
I am running 5508 controller with version 7.0 and 1142N access points.. I am facing a problem on user connectivity. Wireless Users are getting frequent connection and disconnection. These users are not getting connected to the access point nearby although this access point is up and running. I have tried reducing the power level, configured the AP after resetting it.
issue with their ASA version 8.4.2 code? I loaded this code on my beta ASA last week and have seen it "hang" twice since the upgrade. The previous versions of 8.3 and 8.4 code on this same ASA did not have this issue.
Recently my connection went haywire , it constantly disconnect and spike when there is 2 computers connected to the rounter but it works fine with 1 computer.contacted the ISP , they sent someone down just to change the modem but the problem still occurs[CODE]
I work for a small business of five computers. We have a wireless network for internet traffic, and a wired network for file sharing. The wireless network works great for using the internet, but we are having trouble with the wired network. The issue is being able to communicate with all of the computers on the wired network. The ability to speak with all of the computers on the network is hit or miss. Generally, computer A can speak with computer B, C, and D, but D can only speak with A.
I'm using a XP sp3 machine,dial-up. Was hoping to get connected to open/allowed wifi connection. Did some research, and a ALFA AWUS036h USB adapter looked like the one, good reviews. When I first plugged in and loaded software, it worked great as far as seeing 10-12 connections, and even showed as connected with strong signal on one open/allowed connection, but wasn't connected.Seems like the software doesn't run good, worked at first and I had netstumbler installed and 8-10 stations were showing there also, but after a reboot had no stations on mfg software, none on netstumbler, and never would show stations on XP Zero config., seemes the software got screwy after reboot.
I'm using DIR-655 A5 (A4 in configuration page), with firmware 1.35W. My Internet connection is about 100/100 Mbps, through fiber optic. The problem is that when I'm downloading torrents, sometimes DIR-655 becomes unanswerable, no Internet connection and I can't access the config page. The only way to solve this, is to restart the router.
I recently puchased the WMP600N, connects great, I can browse the internet and even download without a problem. But when I try to play games such as world of warcraft, warcraft 3, (basically games that require immediate constant data transfers), I get 2-4 lag spikes every couple of minutes. As you might notice, this is a huge problem for many online games.
We have a Catalyst 3560G 24 port POE switch. It's been running fine for 1+ years. A few weeks ago we enabled SPAN on it to capture packets. Today, we had a random spike in CPU on the switch. Seems hardware swithing continued to work fine, but software based processes choked and effectively took down EIGRP, HSRP, etc. We collect syslogs from the router and we saw 2 crashes/reboots. Both showed the exact same error both times, with the same hex values. I **believe** the CPU usage dropped when a tech disconneted the SPAN port and it's state changed to down, but I'm not 100% sure.Could this indicate an IOS bug (I'm hoping it's not a hardware failure)? And, how to track this down to see if this could be related to SPAN? I've disabled SPAN for now.
I am having a cisco 7609-S router with the image sup-bootdisk:c7600rsp72043-ADVIPSERVICESK9-mz.122-33.SRD7.bin. Im getting above 95% cpu spike for 10 mins in every 2hrs of interval, after it has been integrated with Ciscoworks LMS version 3.2.1 and added this to HUM. In LMS the HUM polling has been configured for every 1hr to monitor the cpu and memory utilization.
I have gone through the below cisco document and I have configured all of the snmp-server view commands as illustrated in the below website.[URL] After configuring the same, now we are observing the cpu spike every 4 hrs or i would say 5 hrs... I have checked all the settings of ciscoworks LMS and there is absolutely no other jobs are running in the day time... The spike comes every 4 hrs.
I recently purchases an inspiron 1545 notebook with various upgrades, one including an upgraded wireless card to get faster speeds and signal strength. I have had problems with this laptop ever since i recieved it, i have an old laptop with a worse card which picks up my signal perfectly fine and the speed and signal stays constant. With this inspiron 1545 with a "even better" wireless card i have many problems:,losing signal, poor signal strength and quality, speeds going from decent to slower than dial up,I will be checking this as often as possible.
we've given up on the 4410n. we have two of them, one at the front of our office, one at the back (we have a floor in a highrise in san francisco). the one at the rear of the office - version one hardware, has never had any trouble. it just runs and runs and runs, has been up in the false ceiling for more than a year now. the one at the front of the office started giving us trouble within months of installation. not passing traffic. took it down from the false ceiling and kept it on my desk. staff got in the habit of just power cycling it when the first person showed up in the morning, since it always locked up overnight. RMA'ed it, got a version 2 hardware unit. seemed better initially - but it was faking it. same problems. going unresponsive overnight. gave up.
bought a $40 TrendNet AP. not a single problem in the month it's replaced the 4410N.
better quality hardware at less than 1/4th the price. wow. never buying a cisco WAP again.
My problem comes in when trying to add another couple computers to the network, both of these machines are Windows........95!!! These are being kept as they have some programs on that are needed unfortunately! But I cant get these machines to show up in in the "Networked comps section" but can see my win 7, vista, and xp machine.
At our house we have Fast Access DSL through ATT. We are getting very frequent disconnects and lags. We have multiple devices running off of a single DSL modem/router. It has wireless and wired connections available. Our wireless devices disconnect as frequent as our wired devices do. We have called ATT many times. They have had us replace the DSL filters and did a line test outside our house which came back clear. However, when they run a line test while I am on the phone with them, they say they detect multiple errors on the line. We have replaced our DSL modem with a new one as well. It is a NETGEAR VersaLink Four Port Ethernet Wireless Gateway, Software VER:06.04.12. The self-diagnostics on the Modem come back clean with no problems detected. We get static on our phone line frequently as well.

In the technician readout part of my modem I also see this:
1Manufacturer NETGEAR 2Vendor ID b5004946544e449c 3Model NumberB90-755025-15
I just got Charter cable internet and decided to purchase my own cable modem instead of paying 5 dollars a month to rent one. I got a D-Link DCM-201. I know it is a little old but it was brand new/unused so I figured it would work out well. Ever since we got it hooked up every few hours we lose internet connectivity. The power, cable, and status lights are solid green and the Ethernet light is blinking green. The only fix I have found for this is to power cycle the modem. The problem is this happens about once every 4 hours...having to reset the router every few hours is making having cable internet a much more painful experience than it should be.
The internet connects fine, but every couple of minutes it will disconnect for a couple of seconds. It's not a big deal when browsing, but it's disastrous when downloading big files or playing online games. What I've tried so far:
-Resetting the modem. No change. -Reconnecting the modem/router completely. No change. -Replacing the main splitter. Slight change, but problem came back eventually. --Original problem came with the tech's 2 way 5-1002 mhz spliiter. --I tried replacing it with a 3 way 5-1000 one. The modem on 7db and cable on 7db. It worked fine for a couple of days. --Problem comes back today. Moving the modem to any of the 3 outputs doesn't fix anything. Moving it to 3.5db actually causes a short timeout every minute when I try to ping yahoo (as a test). --I've also tried a 2 way 5-900 mhz splitter. It was the worse one of all.
Other info:The internet went down to the entire block at the start of the year. No one knew this of back then so we made a call to comcast, and they scheduled for a tech. A couple days later, we decide to get a new modem from the comcast center just to make sure it wasn't our modem. Some problems with activation prevents us from knowing if it was. We get back online somehow the next day, which is also the same time the tech came. He decides our numbers are weird and adds in a splitter for the internet and tv (which leads into another splitter for each room), and an amplifier for the tv. In the middle of this, another tech stops by and tells us the entire block was down and he said he fixed it now, he doesn't stay long. The first tech finishes installing everything and leaves. All is fine for a couple of days, until a week later and we start experiencing frequent disconnects. We've tried calling comcast again, but they say the connection is fine on their end and the problem is with our router. When I ping the router and the modem directly, there are no dropped connections. It's only when I try to ping anything on the internet when the problem pops up.
I am having issues with frequent bgp flaps on the Cisco 7200 series router from past 1 week. I have raised a ticket with ISP but couldn't get any resolution from them as the flap is for about 2min.When ever we see BGP flap, we are not able to ping the remote end IP, Also at that point we drops on the interface connected to ISP.
I have a Cisco 1841 router which stops functioning sporadically. You have to manually go do hard reboot on the router before it starts working properly. When it goes down, you cannot ping its internal interface (from the LAN side) not its public interface, it seems to go down quite regularly.Where do i start to diagnose, is it hardware failure, or config issue. Nothing has changed as far a the config goes lately.
I have this problem of loosing internet connection every 1-2 min. I ping Google and I have a lots of Requested timed out about 7-8 of those then I have a reply for 30 sec than it starts again "...timed out"t first I thought it was a problem from my ISP than I called them they checked and it seems that everything it's OK and their behalf. I keep calling them for this problem and they came changed the cable and the router but the problem keeps going.I've had the same ISP for over 2 years now and I didn't have any problem but has started about 1 month ago. At first I was using a TP-LINK 54M Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router connected throught Poppe with a username. I thought it was that the modem had the problem but the ISP brought a new modem BILLION and the problem keeps going. I've tried in two different PC's same problem.
I have Cisco 7613 on my edge(MPLS Backbone). CPU utilization is shooting to 100% at frequent intervals. When I tell vendors managing device they tell that it is happening due to one of my server(connected on Fast ethernet port of 100Mbps) generating heavy traffic. My questions are:
1. Can a router of 720Gbps capability be choked due to traffic generated by 100Mbps link?
2. Interrupt CPU process utilization is well below 10% at the said time. BGP router process consumes most of the CPU. Does this means that server in question is generating too many routing updates?
3. Is there any way that I can limit routing updates on a particular link?
4. how to check which link is causing more CPU utilization.
I've recently bought an Actiontec V1000H gateway from Telus because my previous gateway burnt out. It seemed to work fine at first, but then I started getting disconnected at random. The only way I have found to fix this issue temporarily is to ipconfig /release and /renew.
I have moved into an apartment with 4 friends of mine. We all own HP 6515b Laptop running Windows 7. We connect to the internet through a wireless router. Our connection's name is LINKSYS and is WEP.Once i have connected to the internet, it will continue to work fine for a while. After some random time, it will disconnect.(The computer stays connected to the wireless modem, but computer shows NO INTERNET CONNECTIVITY (in bottom-right taskbar))Then in 5-6 seconds, it will start working again... The only change that is visible is that the exclamation mark on network disappears. The computer remains connected to router for this whole time. Initially we thought it was a problem of our ISP. But later we found out that at a time not all users face disconnection. So at a particular time, it is possible that only I cannot open webpages.
I have multiple RVS4000 in a VPN ipsec Site to site to a ASA5505. The connection is fine most of the time. But the VPN connection randomly drops, not all the devices at once but they all do at a different time.
