My computer is says there's no network cable plugged in when i have it plugged in to my smc router but when i plug it into my cable modem i get signal . Ive updated my drivers. my network cable is good i tested it.. all the other computers on the network see the router.
View 4 RepliesI am running XP pro. I have checked thoroughly for viruses/malware/etc. and everything appears to be clean. I have up to date drivers for NIC's, have cleared all temp data, done basically everything that the first tier Time Warner Cable(my ISP) tech support people will tell you to do as they read from that frustrating script we're all too familiar with and have had to deal with time and time before, including resetting modem and router, bypassing router, etc. etc. et bloody cetera.Ran several pings to a variety of servers and noticed ping spikes every 10or so seconds into the 300-600 range from an average of about 20-30ms.

The wireless network works great for using the internet, but we are having trouble with the wired network.The issue is being able to communicate with all of the computers on the wired network. The ability to speak with all of the computers on the network is hit or miss. Generally, computer A can speak with computer B, C, and D, but D can only speak with A.

Did some research, and a ALFA AWUS036h USB adapter looked like the one, good reviews.When I first plugged in and loaded software, it worked great as far as seeing 10-12 connections, and even showed as connected with strong signal on one open/allowed connection, but wasn't connected.Seems like the software doesn't run good, worked at first and I had netstumbler installed and 8-10 stations were showing there also,but after a reboot had no stations on mfg software, none on netstumbler, and never would show stations on XP Zero config., seemes the software got screwy after reboot.

The problem is that when I'm downloading torrents, sometimes DIR-655 becomes unanswerable, no Internet connection and I can't access the config page. The only way to solve this, is to restart the router.

I have had problems with this laptop ever since i recieved it, i have an old laptop with a worse card which picks up my signal perfectly fine and the speed and signal stays constant. With this inspiron 1545 with a "even better" wireless card i have many problems:,losing signal,poor signal strength and quality,speeds going from decent to slower than dial up,I will be checking this as often as possible.
View 19 Replies View Relatedwe've given up on the 4410n. we have two of them, one at the front of our office, one at the back (we have a floor in a highrise in san francisco). the one at the rear of the office - version one hardware, has never had any trouble. it just runs and runs and runs, has been up in the false ceiling for more than a year now. the one at the front of the office started giving us trouble within months of installation. not passing traffic. took it down from the false ceiling and kept it on my desk. staff got in the habit of just power cycling it when the first person showed up in the morning, since it always locked up overnight. RMA'ed it, got a version 2 hardware unit. seemed better initially - but it was faking it. same problems. going unresponsive overnight. gave up.
bought a $40 TrendNet AP. not a single problem in the month it's replaced the 4410N.
better quality hardware at less than 1/4th the price. wow. never buying a cisco WAP again.

My problem comes in when trying to add another couple computers to the network, both of these machines are Windows........95!!! These are being kept as they have some programs on that are needed unfortunately! But I cant get these machines to show up in in the "Networked comps section" but can see my win 7, vista, and xp machine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedOften my router drops connection to all my devices. Multiple times a day. It's only for a minute or so, but it's annoying. I'm using a Linksys Wireless-N router (WRT160N) with WEP encryption. I'm running two Windows 7 laptops, LG BluRay player, Apple TV, Xbox 360 (Wired) iPhone 4, and a iPad 2. It doesn't matter if I'm browsing the web, watching Netflix, or playing a game, the connection gets lost. As we speak it happened again. I have no clue on what to do. I've reconfigured it multiple times. Firmware has been updated months ago.

I am having problems with my TL-MR3420 router, it disconnects WIFI all the time. My ZTE MF 631 dongle gives me a strong signal and stable connection and rarely loses connecton when plugged directly into my laptop. With my MR-3420 V2 losses connection, duration only lasts for about 2 to 3 minutes. I have to power off/on the router and turn off/on the wireless button on the laptop to restore connection or manually disconnect in the web interface of MR -3420 and reconnect.
Even i tried the changing channel bandwidth and channel, still no luck. Router settings is pretty much default, expect security key. I have quite recently upgraded to the latest firmware but the problem seem not to have been resolved.
i have 3 buildings and some how want to connect all these up and have a specifications Building 1, floor 1, 30 users, floor 2 has 30 users,Building 2 30users, Building 3 30 user, Building 1 and 2 has cat 5 cabling. So what routers cabling etc. would I use to connect all these building
View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently have a d-link DIR-615E3 with the latest dd-wrt firmware (v24 from 2010-12-13). Everything seems to be ok when I boot up the router - with factory settings and unsecured wireless, I have an internet connection. When I enter the GUI, create a router username/password, everything is still fine. Then, when I create a wireless security password (WPA2 personal) I lose internet connection, and the only way to get it back is to do a hard reset of the router. This also happens if I change any setting within the ddwrt interface, not just the wireless settings. (I also have a linksys WRT54GL with ddwrt with absolutely no problems) My cable modem is a motorola surfboard SB5101U, ISP is comcast cable, running windows 7.

4. when HDD connected to router, router identifies it as WD HDD ON status PAGE...but

the WD HDD is my network storage unit.
Since upgrading to windows 8 a few days ago my router keeps dropping my connection every few minutes . 4 other pc's in the house are fine. Mine has a wooden floor for the signal to pass through, my wifes which is fine has two walls between her and the router.

When my TV is connected to the router via Ethernet cable and my laptop is connected to the router , O am able to stream media to the TV, but the TV often disconnects itself. I think the router is the problem because when the computer a connected directly (not using the router) It doesn't disconnect. Also another issue when the TV is connected to the router the computer will only connect to the TV if it is connected via an Ethernet cable, It wont through wireless.

My desktop connects to router OK, but can't get to internet. I reinstalled IE8. I can put in the router address and connect to router. I can ping between laptop and desktop. IE says it's waiting for whatever address I type in, says Done, then goes waiting for [URL]. It always comes back either The address is not valid, or Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

View 2 Replies View Related I changed my ISP (I don't know if that has anything to do with it).I have my network setup so I have a seperate modem (tp-link td-8616), which is connected to my router (asus wl-520gu) and do most of my computing from my computer (running Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium, wired network). I had installed tomato firmware onto my router, which was working fine with my first ISP. I changed companies about a week ago, and noticed my connection kept being dropped. At first, I thought it was an issue with my ISP, so I called them up, and didn't find a solution.
Afterwards, I started doing some trouble shooting on my own, and noticed my modem was still connected (via the WAN LED, at least), even though my router disagreed. So, I tried connecting directly to my modem and my connection would be fine without any issue at all, so I thought I'd trouble shoot the router. I switched back to the factory asus firmware, connected it back to my modem, and after a while, it disconnected my LAN connection again. My router comes with this somewhat annoying interface that tells me the issue is "You have set the wrong dynamic or static IP address for your wl-520gu." So, I investigate that, and here is the setup:
My modem is statically 192.168.1.1 when I directly connect to it, so I left that setting alone.My router is also 192.168.1.1, but this was how tomato worked, so I'm not sure that this is the conflict, so I tried setting it to 192.168.1.2, which does not seem to fix the problem.My DHCP settings are set so connecting computers are 192.168.1.100-254, which should avoid the conflicts.
I have a problem with my router not connecting to a modem I know is working when connecting a computer directly to the modem it works fine, but when connecting via the router there is absolutely no internet access, and multiple unplugging and resetting the router to factory defaults and resetting it up hasn't worked.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I have been trying to resolve this issue I have to no avail. Right now I am considering downgrading to a DIR-615 but having issues there and that is another story.
My computers speed test at 15+ megs no problems. I can stream Netflix on Xbox no problem as well as my BD player hooked wireless. All no issues, I have no disconnect issues with the router at all. In fact, it has run flawless since purchase and it has current 2.05NA firmware. Anyway, the problem I have is the PS3. I speed test the PS3 and I am getting 4 megs download at best. Up load is around 1. My friend, who is with the IP as me, Comcast, same internet package and we both have dedicated internet. His will speed test at 12 + and averages about 8 on a Saturday night.
I have had disconnects on the PS3 and I am sure it is due to this low bandwidth. I have messed with the DMZ with no success. I am about to try reserving the static IP I will create as soon as PSN is back up. My firends router is a DIR-615. Why would my (supposedly) uber router cut my broadband like this on the PS3?
Yes, I hooked PS3 up to modem direct and tested at 12.5megs dwn and 3-4 up I think Type1 NAT. Which tells me I am direct to a modem. Put my expensive router in the mix and it drops back to 4. All in all I am happy with this router, just this one issue. No I do not have it in QoS and see no reason to put it in there honestly. Plus, I doubt it would make it better being that I can get the 12 with it being connected to modem.
My router drops my internet connection at least once a day. When the router does this, my wireless network connection disappears from the network list. I have to disconnect router from plug and plug it back in to work again. If I hard-wire laptop to router or modem, I still do not get internet unless I unplug and re-plug router.

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy router at work is working fine, at least for LANing...as for its connection to the internet, it keeps dropping the connection.The router will be connected to the internet for say an hour or 2, sometimes more, and then it drops the connection. Usually a router restart(either from the web interface or by pressing the on/off button) fixes it, but only for a while.
