i live in a dorm and i want to stream movies to my nexus 7 but i dont want to buy a nas. can i connect my external to a router [URL] and use that to stream movies. i dont need to be able to connect to it all over campus (i know that involves hacking the proxy) but mainly in my room would be nice.

2. In the school wifi, it sometimes works and sometimes it doesn't work. e.g. I walk into a classroom and open my laptop, it works fine for 5 minutes and then no webpages will load for the remainder of the class and ping will not send another response.
This has happened in almost all classrooms so it can't be the location. There are some lucky times where I get wifi for the entire duration of the class.I asked several classmates beside me and no one else really had that issue so it must be my laptop. [code]

Students bring their ipods and iphones and are connecting to the existing unsecured wireless access points and are taking up the remaining IP addresses in the DHCP scope. I am running out of IP addresses and was wondering if I could set up a VLAN using the Cisco WRVS4400N for all of these wireless devices the students will be using. I plan to pull out all unsecured wireless AP's and replace with what ever solution we come up with. I will need about 6 access points/routers to cover the entire school. There is not a lot of money for technology and the ipods were donated. I have never set up a VLAN before. Is there an inexpensive way to allow the students with their personal ipads/ipods and the 20 ipads owned by the school to connect to a VLAN to keep from using up our DHCP IP addresses from the server.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've tried looking for solutions on the windows seven forums and all over Google but none of them worked.The problem is, sometimes I get an "Unidentified Network, No Internet Access" error on my laptop (wireless). When this happens, the lan speed drops to 1.0 mbps and I get the "No Data Received" error when I try to load pages.My internet is on fine and my brother can access the internet fine on a desktop which is wired to the router and modem. My mom's notebook sometimes gets this error as well.
Is there any real solution for this problem or known compatibility problems between my WRT54G (version 1.1 I think) and Windows 7? Really need a solution to this, before I had to re-setup my whole connection, I didn't get such a problem. My laptop doesn't get the error in the school network either.
I have a Dlink DIR-655 router for my wired and wireless router for my home network. I have a 100ft cat6 ethernet cable. I pulled it from the router to my home server in my basement.
Does the 100ft cable make a difference or does the fact that it's a cat6 cable make a difference?

I have setup a webserver on my home PC and I have forwarded port 80 on my router to the IP adress of the PC that is running the web server. The web server is working great; I can get to my web pages from outside of my home by going to http://MyIpAddress/Anyway, the problem is with the Windows Media Player plugin I'm using. I want to embed 6GB MPEG-2 videos into my web pages. I have some videos on my PC and I want to be able to watch them remotely by connecting into my web page. It works fine when I'm at home; other PCs can connect and play the videos no problem. The problem is when I'm at work. When I'm at work, I go to my web page (via my IP address in a web browser) and the Media Player plugin says "Connecting" for a minute, then it says Ready, but the video will not play. I tried using a smaller, AVI file (680 MB) instead to see if the problem was streaming such a large file, but the video still would not play.Do I need to foward more ports on my router so that Windows Media Player can connect back and get the information it needs?

This feature allows you to remotely connect into the router and access any external drive attached as well as your computers shared folders.My issue arises due my location. I live on a school campus and with this being the case, setting up an IP address that is static and is available from everywhere is not really possible. I have my router which I can setup with a static number but the school breaks theirs down so mine will never stay that wayI am trying to see if there is a way to make an address static using an update feature or something of that nature to constantly have a new IP when mine changes.

I'm having problems connecting to a printer. It has worked for a long time, it's still my default printer, but when I try to access it, it gives me a spooling error.
Now here's why I think it's a network problem.I can't access the main computer's network location (the one hooked up directly to the printer). All the other computers come up on the networkjust fine. And the one in question is only able to access very few computers in the network browser. let me simplify:
computer A/ brother printershared computer B/no longer sees A on network A/ sees only a small portion of other computers on network B/ sees all computers but A
Again, I don't think it's a spooler problem. It probably gives that error because it's a default printer with a lost connection.
I am trying to connect my wireless router into the wired ethernet so that i can create a private wireless network for our room. The thing is, my school realizes what you are trying to do and your browser only displays "you are attempting to access (college.edu) network on an unauthorized wireless network. My friend has made it work by turning off the dhcp with his airport extreme and setting it to create new network instead of extend, but after I turn off dhcp I dont know what i should put in for a static ip/ dns/ what to do at all. I can look at all the connections with ipconfig/all , I just don't know the magic things to put in after turning off dhcp to make this work. I have a netgear wireless wndr 3400 n600 router.

My goal is to use Windows Server 2003 R2 to setup a DNS Server that can create a few simple names for some devices on my LAN, such as my printer. My DNS server will forward other inquiries (like google.com) to OpenDNS. Additionally, I don't want to setup a domain controller for my network. I wish to continue using workgroups,how to setup a Windows DNS Server on a workgroup. My biggest confusion is the FQDN of my name server. By default, it's setup as "server.", where 'server' is the name of my Windows Server 2003 machine. My workgroup is named 'Home'. So I tried 'server.home', but this does not resolve. What DNS suffix do my other machines on the network use by default? Is my domain name on the network really my workgroup name? Another thing I want to avoid is configuring a DNS Suffix for every single client machine on my network in their NIC properties for IPv4. I have a D-Link router, and if I do an "ipconfig /all" on my machine, I see that my DNS suffix is 'router', which is the name of my D-Link router. I try setting my DNS Server FQDN as 'server.router' and that doesn't work either, so I'm out of ideas.

I have on my second floor a "server" with an wifi usb adapter (Alfa AWUS036H) for internet access which shares the connection, the server is connected to the WAG200G and he is then connected finally to my home pc. So if i want internet i have to run that router and the server constantly. As i said it works great but i would like to eliminate the server so i dont have to turn it always on, are there any possibilities? Here is a picture which shows it all!

Assume you have a group of computer connecter to a switch, this switch is connected to a router which has the connection to your ISP. On the router, you also have connected a server farm for your network and all the apps are stored there, say MS Word, Excel and such.Now, you have your network running, every ping comes out successful, so you know you did that part right, so the next part is to get the host use the MS Word or any other app in that server. View 2 Replies View RelatedI had setup 2 servers at home. I'm now in need of hosting 4 websites. I have 4 static public ip's. I'm currently using a router with DD-WRT firmware installed. I have setup up as static NAT. X.X.X.27 to 192.168.0.100, X.X.X.28 to 192.168.0.101. This is my current setup for the existing 2 webservers which host a website each. I notice apache allows for multiple websites per server. One of the server's is a dell 2500 with 2 NIC's and will not be a problem assigning two ip's. The second server only has 1 NIC. Should I buy another NIC card for the second server or could I get by using a virtual NIC? The load on the servers isnt heavy. Only bout 20 clients connect to them daily.

I followed the procedure on Configuring Cisco Devices to Use a Syslog Server from [URL] Our Cisco swtches are all sending syslog messages but not the routers. I compared the config with our access switches but can't seem to find the problem:
