I'm a court reporter trying to set up a connection between my laptop and my court reporting machine, which has built in wifi capabilities. My court house has public wifi but there is always some interference which causes transmission between my laptop and machine to freeze. I was told I could create my "own wifi" between my machine and laptop if i bought a router. is this possible with this hardware?I don't need the internet or want an internet connection. I have the internal modem in my laptop. I just want to provide a connection between my laptop and writing machine wirelessly. That is, data being sent back and forth between the two. (Like your headset and smartphone connected with Buetooth). I can use the Bluetooth method to connect the two, but I opted for wireless connection because Bluetooth still can have some interference when attorneys come in the courthouse building with a Blackberry smartphone. I heard this router will provide a secured, private wifi connection between my laptop and machine. It doesn't say anywhere in the instructions that how to do this or I just don't know which method to use this router for what I want to do. Is it WISP, AP or BRIDGE, etc...?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using Comcast as an ISP and have a standalone Arris modem. I, obviously, have a DIR-655 router REV B with a firmware revision on 2.00NA. I have already turned off packet shaping and QOS. Also, I have set the firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for both TCP and UDP, and assigned static IP addresses to my computers. The problem I am having is that whenever I go to any secure websites, i.e. anything that starts with https, it takes an extraordinary long time to log in and to navigate to any webpages therein. I also cannot upload photos to a website and when I try the Speed-test.net website the download speed is OK but the upload test errors out, it doesn't connect.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just moved in with my friend and i'm having trouble connecting to wireless router linksys WRT54GS2 V1. My roommate can connect his laptop and desktop to the router wirelessly, but my iphone and laptop can't connect. I've tried both of my devices on a wireless network at a friend's house, and both worked fine. We even changed AND removed the password and it doesn't let me log on the internet.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy ISP was unable to facilitate me, and neither was Linksys chat. I've searched and found many step-by-step guidesm kind of at my wit's end here.Right now when I connect wirelessly to the internet, it jumps on a connection labeled "linksys," which is my wireless router (BEFW11S4 ver. 4). It used to connect to "Jason" (me) but that's no longer a valid connection for some reason. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to set my connection back up properly and secure it as my own.

I have also tried typing in my Default Gateway and ip address that I got from cmd/ipconfig and those will not work either..I'm not understanding why this wouldn't work, and yes my internet connection is fine and nothing is wrong with my browser..

View 3 Replies View Related2 routers in series, is one more secure. I recently asked about setting up two routers in series as routers, one wireless one not. It was my understanding that the computers on the second router would not be visible to computers on the first router, the wireless one. My assumption was that this would make it more difficult for someone who got access to the wireless router to also access those computers on the second router.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed my EA4500 router and it was amazingly simple. View 4 Replies View RelatedPurchased E4200 this week and did simple setup via CD setup (Cisco connect). Set up main name and password. Cisco Connect assigned "-guest" to end of main name for the guest account. Gave guest account its own password. Both main and guest accounts were broadcasting OK -- but guest account was not secure and could be accessed without password. (All software and firmware upgrades were done during initial setup).Reset the E4200 and restarted things from the CD setup. Created main account, main account password, and guest password again. In advanced settings, left basic wireless settings at initial settings, changed wireless secutiy to WPA2 Personal. Still having the guest account being broadcast in unlocked status. (Have turned off guest access for now until I can get password protection for it).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had a secure connection, after trying to change the passsword, it now is unsecured. I was trying to connect a new Ipad to my router but I have failed miserably.
How can I get my router a password and then use that password to connect an Ipad to my home network? I reset the router, but the connection is unsecured, I can't figure out how to get it back.
I recently had an issue with my laptop that required a complete reinstall of windows. As if this wasn't bad enough, I lost the password that I had for my router. Thinking it was no big deal I just went ahead and reset the router back to factory settings assuming I would be able to set up a network and encrypt it as I had before. Just testing the functionality, I was able to access my router while it was not encrypted and with the DSL modem plugged in, I also had internet access. I did this both wireless and with Ethernet cable.
Happy to see this, I decided it would be a good idea to re-encrypt my router to prevent any outside access. So as I had done before I went to the setting page where I set up a network with a web key. The only thing I entered at all was the paraphrase for the key then saved the setting to test it out. I refreshed the available wireless networks and mine was there and was now listed as secure. I then proceeded to click on the network, entered the key, and then waited for it to connect. The problem is, it never would connect. It continuously tries to connect, and says it is trying to "acquire the network address" but never does. Since then I have been on the hunt trying many different suggestions I have seen online, but none of the situations were quite like this one.
Had a secure network with my model wrt54g2 v1 router, then suddenly it's not showing up. All I have is a unsecured Linksys way on to the Internet. How can I get this back to my secure network?
