View 3 RepliesShare the internet from my laptop to my desktop. I see that others have posted on this subject before but I have been unsuccessful so far. Maybe one of you can point out what is wrong (my guess is its something simple).I have:
*connected the 2 PCs with a Ethernet cable
*I can successfully share/transfer files between the 2 PCs
*When I found out the internet wasn't sharing, I manually changed the setting of the network adapter (IPv4) with the right ip/subnet
*I was unable to ping the two computer before I changed the settings of the network adapter.Even with being able to ping, the laptop still wouldn't let me share the internet.
*I have put everything back (all settings) that I changed to kind of start new.My laptop runs Windows 8 and my desktop runs Windows 7. [code]
OK, so I have a wireless/wifi connection at home. Problem is, the router is located in the bedroom (it's a rental house, and wired kinda odd). I have my desktop on a table in the kitchen.
I want to connect my Desktop to my Laptop....which I can do with an ethernet cable, but I don't know how to let them share the wireless/wifi connection. How to connect to the internet on my Desktop through the Laptop?
I have two computers, a laptop and a desktop. Both are running Win7 64 bit.My laptop's wireless card went kabloom and I'm too broke to afford a wireless adapter for my laptop. So I have the next best thing, connect the desktop to the laptop and share my desktop's internet connection with. But of course, it's not that simple. The problem is that the laptop isn't able to connect to the internet. I have shared my desktop's internet to my laptop before using the same cable and everything and it used to work, but now it doesn't.Now comes the 'weird' part. I reversed the order, or I shared my laptop's wireless connection with my desktop. Although slow and choppy, it did work and I was able to access the internet from my desktop using a connection to my laptop with a cable.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWired Internet works on laptop but not on desktop 1) Cable modem --> Switch --> Wireless Router --> ATA Adapter for the VOIP Phone --> Desktop Worked until i had a minor power outage. After which everything stopped ie No internet. So i tried scenario 2.
2) Cable modem --> Wireless Router --> Switch --> ATA Adapter for the VOIP Phone --> Desktop Got internet working (wired and wireless) for few days and then it stopped suddenly again. I tried both the above scenariosn again, but didnt work.
3) Now I connected my laptop (which i connected via wireless only before) with wire from cable modem straight to Laptop. Interent works
4) When I connect the same wire used successfully on laptop to my desktop, internet doesnt work. Both Laptop and desktop have windows 7?
I'm having this weird issue with my internet in which my desktop is having inconsistent internet connection, but when I check on my laptop (same room) it shows no problem.I have ATT Uverse, and my desktop's adapter is Belkin N750 DB Wireless-N Dual-Band USB Adapter, while my laptop has some adapter (I don't know the brand, but I know it's 802.11g.Also, my Desktop has much better specs than my laptop. My desktop has i7 intel processor, 4GB RAM (x4 total of 16) and 60 GB SSD boot drive and 2 TB hard drive for all the other softwares. My laptop on the other hand is a Sony Vaio with 8GB RAM and 500 GB hard drive. When going through these inconsistent internet connection phase, my desktop can drop to not even a megabyte per second, while my laptop may be at 8~10 MB download speed, but a tthe same time the ping on my desktop is around 5, but my laptop shows around 17.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAt home, my current setup is:
1. Motorola SBV5220 Surfboard Cable Modem for internet
2. Rosewill 8 Port Switch RC-406X
And I have:
1. Dell Q6600 desktop running on Windows 7
2. Dell Latitude laptop running on Windows XP
3. Xbox 360
These all need access to the internet.Up until now, everything worked fine. The Motorola modem was connected in Slot 1 and my desktop, laptop and Xbox were all 3 connected into slots 2, 3 and 4.The other day, I accidentally pressed a switch in my home that switched off my modem. Anyway, once everything was reset, things changed.I can no longer be on the internet with all 3 devices at the same time. Either only the laptop can be connected, with the 2 other devices being offline, or just the desktop and not the laptop.Whenever I gain access to the internet via the desktop, it shows as Network 10 and if I try and repair the connection on the laptop, it says it is unable to renew the IP address. If I switch it up and I have access on my laptop but try and have access on the desktop, the network shows up as Unidentified.
I have a Linksys E3200 router and it seems to work fine with my laptop, but doesn't work well with the desktop at all. I can't run a cable from the router to the desktop because of distance?on [URL], my laptop gets around 45 Mbps download rate and 5 Mbps upload rate while my desktop would get about 1 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload, while both computers are at the same exact location. I have tried using two wireless LAN cards for my desktop in the past and they did not give me good internet at all. I am now using a NETGEAR WNDA3100v2 USB Adapter and it gives an extremely weak signal as well. I have tried configuring it and the router a number of times and nothing significantly changed the signal. Since all of these devices have failed to give me a good signal?

The router sees the internet and the laptop picksup the network I setup but can not connect on either PC. I know I don't have a setting write and I do not know where to start again or what specifically to look for. We just want Internet on both PCs.

I am trying to bridge internet connection received from my laptop to my desktop with an ethernet cable. Both machines are running win 7.When I try to connect to my local area connection on the desktop most of the time it fails and I'm left with 'Unidentified network' and no internet connection. Sometimes, rarely it does connect properly but I get a notification about there being an IP conflict in the network, but things work as they should. When I diagnose the problem it tells me that "Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

Oddly, ping works on everything.
Works:
WLAN to WLAN, LAN to WLAN
Does not work:
WLAN to LAN
My router is a TP-LINK WR1043ND v1 with the latest firmware (3.13.13 Build 130428 Rel.58290n)
AP isolation is disabled.
My desktop is running Linux Mint 14 MATE 64
Another way to state the problem for Google searches: Wifi computers won't talk to wired computers.
when I browse for internal WLAN cards for my new desktop their interface is described as "PCI 32 bit", which is weird because expension slots on new desktop mobos are all PCIexpress.I know the PCIexpress's interface is physically different then PCI's, and that it carries 64 bits. So, will that work? Do you know internal cards that with PCIexpress interface?

I've connected my laptop to said WLAN from which I connect my access point turned DIR-600 to the internet and share it to my PC and Xbox 360.It works pretty well most of the time with 28 ping to a ~150 miles far server, yet sometimes I lose connection overall, or partly. For example, the Battlefield 3 beta stays connected to the internet while 3 different browsers are unable to load a single page. It seems like ongoing connection are unaffected while new ones don't work. The problem is usually fixed in a few seconds when I disconnect and reconnect the WLAN on my laptop.

Is it due to the difference in 802.11 G and N of Laptop and PC ?

My laptop is a toshiba with wireless running windows 7 and I use it upstairs wireless to connect to the net. There are times I need a file from the desktop and I have to go down and put it on memory stick to copy it over. Is there any way I can access the desktop from the laptop without having to do that? Would need step by step instructions to set it up if it can be done with 2 different operating systems.
