Is there any chance the Wireless Repeater mode work with WPA2-AES ?If not, which model of AP should I buy to connect it with my wap54g as Wireless Repeater?
View 4 RepliesI have a WAP54G v3.1 running firmware version 3.05.01 and a WRT54G v3 running Tomato v1.28. The WAP54G is configured client mode and works perfectly. However, I was not able to get the two to communicate with WPA2 security - maybe, I just didn't try hard enough? Both devices are capable of doing WPA2 with AES but client mode doesn't seem to work with WPA2? I had to drop back to WPA-AES to make it work. Why is this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI needed the Guest access of wi-fi setup that LinkSysys routers provided. I don't need the router/modem i just want to have wi-fi access point. I'm an advanced user and i can work with manual setup etc.I tried to do a manual setup of the router, i changed the IP address to mask my network and enable wi-fi and worked BUT the guest access option is NOT available unless you use the stupid CISCO connect software.
Now the cisco connect software IS NOT working or complete the setup if you don't connect it through the router and gain Internet access which is IMPOSSIBLE for me to accomplish as my modem is connected to a firewall device and we are using static DSL options with PPPoE and usernameme/password. There is no way i can get cisco connect to load properly as it always "fixes my connection trying to gain Internet access".Is there any solution on manually properly setup this router and take full advantages of it capabilities or should i return it ?
i'm facing a big problem with my access point WAG54G ver 2.0 ,i just bought it from 2 days but i find alot of problems when i start using it ,i have read all the user guide and the quick install to see how to setup the access point and make it work with my adsl.i have configured all things right using PPPOE and putting my user name and password and then save settings then go to the status and press on connect , but it don't connect with me just i find connecting and adsl link : Down and still making connecting and nothing after that and my adsl led is off haven't any colors ,and when i get again to basic setup i found the password that i put it in the ppoe login is too long , not my password i tried to see what is this password and recover the hidden i found it " d6nw5vlx2pc7st9m ".i don't know what is the problem i tried alot of times to change setting and also the same problem.i think that it's a frim ware problem and i tried install a new updated frimware but everytime trying to install it get installing and suddenly stoped and white page appeard and all the access point is stopping and when restart it the ac power.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo just recently purchased the DIR-825 and DAP-1522. At this point I just want to get the DAP-1522 to work as a wireless access point to my DIR-825. So my wireless laptop would connect wirelessly to the DAP-1522 and the 1522 would go wireless to the router. Pretty basic I guess. I was planning on using the WAP to strengthen the 5 GHz signal to the router but again, at this point, I would be happy to get the 2.4 GHz working.
I've been working on this since last night and got frustrated and went to bed. I woke up fresh and decided to try again and I'm not having making any headway.
DIR-825 is connected to my DSL modem and has no problem accessing the internet. I can connect to either 2.4 or 5.0 directly from my laptop with no problem at all and have access to the internet. Encryption is disabled. It worked with encryption but I turned it off to troubleshoot this AP problem.
It should be simple but I must be doing something wrong. BTW is there a way to scan for network devices from the router or the access point? I tried discovering each device with the wireless setup button on each device but they don't recognize each other so I'm configuring this manually.
So the DAP has access point enabled and 802.11 is running in mixed mode. I've tried different variations but nothing has worked. I've tried 20 mhz and 20-40 auto mhz channels but same problem. Wireless security is off for troubleshooting at the moment.
DHCP server is disabled and I've assigned the DAP an available ip from the router's dhcp range. I can connect to the DAP both wirelessly and hard wired. The problem is that it can't seem to connect to the router. So my laptop can connect to the router and ha internet access. And it can also connect to the DAP but does not have internet access. The ip is showing auto configuration 169.x.x.x when connected to the DAP so I'm not getting an ip. Is the router supposed to assign the ip to my laptop through the DAP? But again, if the DAP can't communicate with the router, then that would explain why I can't get an IP.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a Cisco E2500 for work, and after setting the router to Bridge Mode, I am unable to access the router web interface. I tried both the old IP address (192.168.1.1) and the IP address that I entered when I was configuring Bridge mode, but I couldn't get either to work. I have always tried resetting the switch to factory defaults and trying again to make sure I didn't type anything wrong, but to no avail. The wireless and everything works as it should, I just can't get back into the router to change any of my settings.

They are all in bridged mode, however when I attempt to enable the guest network on each of them, the config shows it as active, but it never shows up as visiible SSID. In previous posts, I've seen people saying that I need to do a complete hard reset of the router and re-enter all the configs again to get the guest network active. Is this true? I'd hate to think that I have to hard reset and reconfigure all three of these APs, just to get the guest network enabled.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've worked on it and read on it for almost 2 days and I'm stuck. I'm using a Win 7 Pro desktop that is hardwired and a Win 7 Home Premium laptop wireless. Both current on all updates.
My Comcast modem is hooked into a WRT160N that is hardwired to the desktop PC and to a WRT400N which is being used as an access point. Both routers have the latest firmware. Both routers have the same SSID, security and password but use different channels. (2 & 6) Internet works perfect both wired and wireless through both routers.
The homegroup has been set up through the desktop but I've removed and added homegroups on both machines multiple times. My problem doesn't go away. The homegroup works when the laptop is either wired or wireless using the WRT160N. It will not work at all through the WRT400N. I can be in the room with the WRT160N hooked to the homegroup, when I move to the other router so the wireless switches to the WRT400N, it drops the homegroup. The internet stays connected just fine as I move back in forth so the IDs and security has to be correct. Once the laptop drops the homegroup, it can't find it until I go back and connect to the main router.
Both machines have IPv6 addresses, auto discovery is on.
I also have an XP machine hooked to the main router. The desktop can see it but it also is invisible to anything using the WRT400N router. I also made sure all PCs are using the same Network ID with no password.
It seems to me that neither Homegroup or Home Network are passing between the two routers since everything works fine using just one router.
I use this router for my laptop with WPA2 encryption.. It works fine But When I try to use my iphone for wifi , It says ' Unable to join the network"

I have an ADSL Modem WAG200G Annex A, with latest firmware. I recently purchased a Linksys E2000 to upgrade my wireless to N, plus to get 4 gigabit Ethernet Ports for my NAS.
The problem is, I set WAG200G to "Bridge mode only", and from within E2000, I provided PPPoE credentials (user name and password), it does not work, no Internet connection!
Normally, with the WAG200G, PPPoE credential is set as followings (and it works)
Type: PPPoE Multiplexing: LLC Virtual Circuit: "0" for VPI (0~255) and "33" for VCI (0~65535) "Keep Alive" option
on E2000 Router, PPPoE does not have the above option for me to select. Only User Name and Password field
I can't figure out how to get the config right for the 802.11n channel to work.

The online help stated to connect to the "internet interface" when in Bridge Mode DHCP Server Is not broadcasting to on the wireless or wired interfaces.
If I used the wired interface as the uplink I can broadcast the DHCP to any device on wired but again nothing to the Wireless. When I "Show Routing Table" I see two static routes pointing to the ATT router for the Wired/Wireless Interfaces.. 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 (my Gateway) Wired/Wireless (my Gateway) 255.255.255.0 0.0.0. AP mode should only be working in Broadcast. By connecting the Wired Interfaces alone up to my switched network should not use the router at all. If you force all traffic to my router all traffic has to be inspected by the firewall You create a bottleneck my router interface is 10/100.

I decided to buy this after reading it offered Bridge/Access Point mode instead of getting the WAP610 because I wanted to have the option to change to routing mode or AP mode. Since my ATT Uverse Router Wireless is “g” it takes forever to transfer files to and from my servers.
I have a network with 2 WRT54Gs in it. One in the besement connects to my cable modem and serves as a gateway and DHCP server as well as a wireless access point. That WRT54G is perfectly accessible. I have another in my room set up as a router and access point only, connected by its ethernet port to the gateway. This one proves a bit trickier. Thet network works flawlessly, and if I couldn't see it sitting right there I would doubt it even existed. I can't ping it (I forgot the IP but tried all the ones that seemed logical), it doesn't show up in my network map, etc. From what I gather that's how a switch is supposed to work. But since this is also a managed router, I would think there should still be some way to connect to it to administer it. How can I log in to this router to change settings if I need to?
I'm not sure if maybe 192.168.2.0 is the other router or if that's some kind of special address (My network is on the 192.168.2.* subnet, don't even ask why...). I've seen it in other posts about routing tables but they all had it routing to 0.0.0.0 instead of the router's own IP. I tried pinging 192.168.2.255 and got no responses at all, not from any computers or from either of the routers, so that was not useful. Tracert from my computer to the gateway doesn't show the router (my computer connects to the gateway through the router).
Seems like there those saying they have gotten there DIR-655 and XBOX 360 Wireless N Adpater to work in 802.11n mode. The adapter will only connect in 802.11g mode (and yes I have the correct adapter). I have set the settings to following

I have a Cisco 880 (supplied by my company and as such I have little access to the control panel). I have a Linksys (Cisco) E1200 to use as an access point. Cisco setup (love it!) but the simple setup gives the E1200 an ip range starting at 192.168.1.1 while the Cisco 880 range is 192.168.185.113. I need to have all connections in the same ip rage (192.168.185.xxx) for remote monitoring. What is the best way to accomplish this? Bridge mode (I don't need Guest Mode which I read is not possible in bridge mode)? Disable DHCP on the E1200?

Under edit list of PCs, I entered the MAC address of the phone, and I have also entered the MAC address of the phone on the wireless>edit mac filter list, though didn't know if I should.

We were pretty impressed with 3500 series APs and that it supports CleanAir.However, we have decided to go for standalone AP deployment model now. As 3500 does not work in standalone mode, so we are looking for APs that can work in standalone mode ( and later can be converted to lightweight if needed). We can go for 1140 in that case. However, it would be better for us to know the main differences between features supported by 3500 lightweight AP and 1140 standalone AP. CleanAir looks like the main one. Are there other important ones as well?

The came with the 2.0.0.5 FW rev installed, so unless the 2.0.0.5 on the cisco DL site is different, nothing I can do with that.I've tried making them work as stand alone AP's, Bridge<-> Bridge, etc... all modes seem to lock up eventually needing a reboot to get any functionality back.Ultimately, I need to make them work in AP<->Client-Repeater mode. I've not been successful in making them work in any mode for a prolonged period of time.
having just rfound this thread today, I have not tried hard coding the NIC's to 100/full, but will give it a try. If it works, great, but then that would defeat the purpose of buying an N radio AP. I would like the potential 300Mbps throughput.
I am cascading a wrt160n (R1) and a wrt160nl (R2) which are hooked up LAN port to LAN port (via a DLink power line adapter). R1 is hooked up via dhcp to the internet. The whole system works wonderfully for several hours until all of a sudden wireless access to R2 ceases to work (though I still can access everything wired). [code]

Just wanted to do a reality check with those of you who tried/use IAP... does it work basically as advertised?
I would be using IAP to specify MAC addr's of devices, blocking them from certain URL's and limiting their hours of Internet access.
And I plan to have Linksys's DHCP Server turned OFF, since my Windows Server handles DHCP on my network.
Should I expect all of this to work OK? No major reliability problems with IAP?
What 113X AP model will work in Autonomous and LightWeight Mode? I want to buy some 113X AP's for my lab and want to make sure I don't get stuck with the ones that only run in one mode. I am looking at buying this one AIR-AP1131AG-N-K9 802.11a/b/g. Will this model work in both modes?
