Sep 3, 2012I'm using the EA4500 router with Cisco Cloud Connect. I've noticed under Devices I'll see devices named "Network Device". They have a generic MAC address with something like "00:00:00:00:2F". They will have an IP that's already assigned to another device.

Nov 27, 2012I have an EA4500 and am using Cisco Connect Cloud software. Its working mostly fine except that I have one device on the network that will not show up in the device list. This is not an issue in itself and normally I would ignore (although it used to show up when I forst got the router) however..
The device is a WDTVLive media unit and required access to windows shares on a media server. Now the WDTVLive device is server an ip address by the router and is available from everywhere on my network but every couple of days it loses the capacity to search windows shares.
I know what you are thinking and I initially thought the same, this is an issue with the WDTVLive box. However one day I spent a few hours trying to resolve (Am an IT Consultant and know a little about networks) and found that I could not fix the issue. I then rebooted the router and it started working. I have since confirmed that every time it breaks I have to reboot the router.

Sep 2, 2012I've looked all over the internet for this and can't find a definate answer. Waited for live chat and got kicked before I got to talk to someone... Just sold my computer and the plan was to buy a newer mac but we've been getting along fine without a computer with just using our iphones. So my question, I see that Cisco has the Connect Express app for the iphone, and I've read about all the features it has like changing settings, router features, etc. But I can't find anything on using the app for the initial set up of the router. I'm currently on an older linksys router (set up before we sold the computer) but it's time for a needed upgrade.

Apr 30, 2012I got my ea4500 all set up. never had a media servor or anything like that, figured this would be an easier way. when i hook up my exteral i can find it but i can only view the files in windows media player. how can i just browse the folders manually? WMP doesnt let me browse the folders as they actually are on the HDD which is such a pain in the **bleep**.
shows a device in "network infrastructure" but it says problem sending command to the program when i click that. i dont want to have to view the HDD in WMP as a media device...
Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Won't Obtain IP From ISP
May 12, 2012My new EA4500 (fw ver 2.0.36) won't obtain an IP from a Brighthouse TM502G cable modem. The EA4500 replaced a functioning WRT54G which would obtain an IP from the ISP. I've tried upgrading firmware and have used both straight-through and crossover cables between the EA4500 & TM502G to no avail. The EA4500 would issue IPs to it's clients, but not obtain one from it's TM502G. At the moment, all 3 are daisy-chained together with the old WRT54G in the middle in order to make the EA4500 work. Both WiFi and LAN ports function in this configuration.

However on the 5 Ghz tab, nothing? I can see Channels 36, 40, 44, 48, 52 and so on BUT no trace of any wireless signal here?I carefully reviewed the wireless settings options and it is indeed enabled.

May 6, 2012I'm hoping to get this router to allow WOL (actually wake on WAN) but it seems to be blocking the necessary broadcast magic packet even though the settings appear correct. It's not critical, but the reason is this: I'd like to shut down the home PC, but when necessary be able to start it up and use a VPN to access any info I need remotely.
From within the LAN, I can verity that WOL works. I have NIC and PCI WOL enabled in the BIOS. The NIC (a Marvel Yukon Gigabit) has WOL enabled as well as "allow this device to wake.." using magic packets under power management. The target machine's local IP is reserved through the EA4500 DHCP Reservation table. Just for troubleshooting, I opened port 9 in windows firewall. More importantly, I have ports 7-9 forwarded to my target LAN address. Single port forwarding... it just has been less reliable (?). I'm using a mask of 255.255.255.128 in order to enable broadcasting on .127 at some point as it seems it must be necessary. Broadcasting on .255 is not possible, despite some workarounds I found on the web. EA4500 firmware is the latest, 2.0.37. I have turned off the multicast filter and the anonymous internet filters under the security tab.
So, with these settings, I can WOL from inside the network no problem either targeting the LAN address, or by using a dyndns address. So far so good.With these same settings, I can go to WAN using Depicus or the Cloud Connect Pro app over 4G on an iPad. With all these same settings, WOLsniffer confirms the magic packet still getting through over WAN (obviously using the dyndns address). Even better, I can shutdown the target PC and STILL wake it up within a few minutes from WAN. Let me restate that! Wake up over WAN works, but only for the first few minutes after a shutdown.
However, if I wait 20 minutes or so, WOL stops working. If I change the port forwarding to .127, not only does it not work, but WOLsniffer will fail to see the magic packet. My conclusion is that the ARP table is getting purged, which is undertandable, and so the target LAN address isn't in memory. However, frustratingly the EA4500 will not broadcast no matter what settings you use. This limitation is undocumented, and counterintuitive since the software allows you to disable multicast filtering and does not notify you of an error when forwarding to xxx.xxx.xxx.127 with a 255.255.255.128 mask.

Oct 23, 2012I bought 2 weeks ago a Linksys EA4500 after searching the best Wi-Fi Router all over the net... I choose this cos all over people writed that it was amazing, fast a nd very good coverage all over the house.
Before I had a Buffalo AirStation Dual Band, wich worked perfectly. But since I have several tv and a central NAS whit all films in MKV, I wanted the BEST product for my system, so I choosed Linksys EA4500!
Well, the result is that (when it works it is greate) but sometimes it disconnects and I have to restart it... And second thing that makes me MAD is that the coverage in my house is WORST!! Before my Wi-Fi was present in all the house, now in some parts doesn't work! The position is the exact same of the Buffalo, so it's not a problem of position... I tryed also a router of 40€ and it has a better coverage! How come? how is it possible that a person pays more than 200$ (in Italy it costs 185€) and the result is so BAD??? I'm totaly freak about Linksys now.

Oct 20, 2012I'm in the process of wanting to upgrade my wireless network but I'm not really agreeing to the Cloud Connect, I don't need to have my settings on the internet. I want to manage everything on my own. I've found the following link on the community to be able to put the classic firmware before the cloud connect feature {URL}.
My question now is : If I buy a brand new EA4500, will it still be possible to downgrade to that firmware? No problem with this one? I'm hoping Cisco will continue to publish bug fixing if any to this classic firmware.

The main issue is that my phones communicate with the service every 240 seconds....the issue is that my NAT timeout is below that 240 threshold. Thus my phones go in and out constantly. increasing the NAT Timeout.

Dec 23, 2012I have problem connecting my Oppo blu-ray player (BDP-95) to the CISCO EA4500 router.I had a buffalo router before and everything was fine.I bought the EA4500 a few months ago. All was fine when I set up the Wi-Fi connection to all my existing devices, including, notebook, iPad, iPhone, TV, etc. But the only exception is my Oppo blu-ray player. The oppo player can detect the SSID of EA4500, after entering the security password, it just shows "Connection Failed!"
However, my Oppo player can connect to other wireless access point (e.g. the wi-fi sharing from my Android Phone.)I have tested almost everything in the past few months....including, upgrade firmware, factory reset the router, turn off all the security setting in my router. But none of them works.Frankly speaking, I am quite familar with the setup of such wireless stuffs. ( I had almost 10 wireless at home and every device was setup without any problem)

Jun 23, 2012I have got a Cisco EA4500 recently installed and it's great. I was very excited about the USB part as I attached a WD hdd to share the media. All good apart for two issues for which I can't seem to find a solution:
1. Transfer speed: Playing a movie over wi fi from the attached HDD works fine. However, if I try to copy the avi file from my mac to the attached hdd or vice versa the transfer speed is around 1 - 2 Mb / sec. How I can improve the speed?
2. Can't write files on the HTF+ partition
My hdd has two partitions: 1 x NTFS and 1 x HTF+.When I try to copy a movie from my mac through the Wi Fi on the HDD it would not let me on the HTF+ partition although I logged it as an Admin. I say I don't have the priviledges. However, on the NTFS partition works fine. Full r/w priviledges seem to work only on NTFS. Is there an issue with mac partitions?

Jul 22, 2012Keep having trouble with login onto my router (EA4500)Every now and then it will work but more often than not when I try to access it using either myrouter.local or 192.168.1.1, I keep getting an unexpected error message in the middle of the screen and it will go no further. Or I get no error and just a blue background with no icons or anything.
I tried going back in the firmware to what it was when I bought the device which is non-cloud (Ver.2.0.37.131047), but when I did that, I was logging into the router perfectly but had no internet access at all even tho all the gateway and dns details were present on the status page for the internet.
I've put it back to the cloud firmware (Ver.2.1.38.138880) and i'm back to these login problems again so I tried as per request with a cisco advisor in live chat to totally reset the router using the reset button at the back. Oh that caused problems getting things back online as every time I tried to access the interface I got a 502 error. I managed to get back online using the cisco disc that came with the router but now I'm back to square 1 with these access problems to the router.
I just can't see what is wrong here, it was fine prior to it updating itself to the cloud software, but it has been problem galore ever since.I am running Ubuntu Linux and have tried both firefox and chrome browsers which doesn't seem to matter.I have tried my sons laptop running vista which gets the same problem.I have tried disconnecting everything else on my network apart from my PC (the linux one) which is ethernet cabled direct to the router.The cloud app for my HTC does work but has very limited settings and runs extremely slow.
Might be worth mentioning that this morning when I tried accessing from google chrome, in the error box also popped up the following message, 'error_get_networks', this is the first time I saw this message so don't know if its of any relevance. I do have set in the settings that my DHCP server starts at 192.168.1.201 and most of the computers in my house have a static IP address so I don't believe anything is clashing to cause any errors.

Apr 3, 2013I purchased a EA4500 and at first I could connect to it through its default ciscoxxxxx ssid on my laptop which is 2.4GHz only. I upgraded the firmware using the PC utility and now I can't find the 2.4GHz SSID no matter what settings I do. I've disabled and enabled it multiple times, changed it to have no security or with security and enabled and disabled it and renabled it. Nothing seems to work, but for some reason the 5GHz side I can connect to using a 5GHz device. I've also tried disabling the 5GHz side, but still no 2.4GHz.

This computer (HP dv6000 running Win Vista home prem) however will not connect to the internet. It states that it is connected to the router (computer sees router), using the cloud connect app on my iphone i can see this computer, but will not allow access to the internet (local connection only). It works fine with the wired connection. When attempting to use the cloud connect software, it says it was unable to complete the install. Have attempted trying while connected by wire as well, same result. Have deleted the wireless connection and allowed software to find connection, still same result, cannot install. Wireless worked perfectly with previous router (WRT54G) three days ago.

Channel - automatic (both)

Jan 28, 2013I had a WRT54G2 router and began having trouble with my PS3. It would connect for a few minutes then it would lose the internet connection. I thought maybe it was the router so I have the EA4500 now. The same problem is still happening. I connected all of my other wireless devices to the EA4500 with no problems. The PS3 connects and signs me in and then two or three minutes I'm disconnected. I called Sony and Cisco for assistance but in vain. The PS3 is showing my network has nearly 100% signal strength so that isn't a problem

Aug 24, 2012I recently purchased an EA4500. It started out working really well, but recently I noticed that my speed on my iPhone and iPad has dropped significantly. When I'm in my office where the router is set up, I'm getting around 15 to 20 mb download speed and 5+ upload speed. When I go to my living room about 40 feet away my speed drops to 1mb down and less than 1 up. I expect to see a drop in my performance the further away I get from the router, but this seems really unacceptable to me.
