Linksys Wireless Router :: Connecting A Telus Modem And Cisco E2500

Jul 18, 2012

Where I work, we have four computers connected on a network with a Telus combination router and modem (I should probably also mention that two of the computers are connected to a switch which is then connected to the Telus modem/router because that is how the previous tenants set it up) . Recently, my boss wanted to have two different wi-fis, one as a guest wireless and a password one for the employees so he bought a Cisco E2500. I set up the second router as a wireless access point, but eventually we started getting problems with IP conflicts which started messing with the work group connections.

How I'd go about setting up the E2500 properly so that there are no problems like I've been having (having to reset the modem/router constantly for the internet to work, computers being assigned different IP addresses and problems connecting to the server over the workgroup network).

Linksys Wireless Router :: Connecting E2500 / Modem Combo?

Jul 19, 2012

I have a Linksys E2500 and I'm trying to connect it to my ISP provided router (Actiontec V1000H) because I wanted better range and consistent connectivity for my 6+ wireless devices. My problem is that, to make this work, I connected an Ethernet cable from the E2500's yellow internet port to one of my V1000H's LAN ports. This, however, did not give me access to the internet even though the network for my E2500 was available in the network list and selected as the default network. I then had to go the the advanced settings of the E2500, and changed the router IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.2. This granted me internet access. However, everyone i've talked to including coworkers and experts at dslreports said that, because of what I've done I've set up a double NAT with 2 potentially conflicting IP addresses, and down the road weird issues will arise because of it. They also suggested I connect the E2500 to a dedicated modem to avoid this problem. However, the dedicated modem I was sent was faulty and did not allow internet access even through the ethernet connection. So, until I get a new dedicated modem, I have to use the router/modem combo. What should I do? Should I set up the E2500 as just a wireless access point for my existing router/modem combo? What do I need to edit in the advanced settings?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Connecting At Low Speeds

Dec 22, 2011

I recently installed a refurbished E2500 router. The reported speeds I got when hovering over the icon in the system tray ranged from 54 Mbps down to 1.0 Mbps. Also, it would drop, then reestablish, the connection several times per day.I contacted Tech Support via Live Chat, and got a woman who told me it was due to the fact that I'm using the router with an older system that has a wireless-G card (I'll be getting a new system soon).Of course, I thought that was ridiculous, so I called Linksys Tech Support and got a young man who had me reinstall the firmware upgrade (which I had already done when I installed the router). After that, it was good for about 24 hours, then the problems manifested again.I returned the router and ordered a replacement, also refrubished. Again, I upgraded the firmware upon installation. .

Linksys Wireless Router :: Acer One Netbook Not Connecting To E2500?

Aug 6, 2011

I recenlty bought an E2500 router.  I was able to connect 4 of our laptops at home just fine.  But when I tried to connect my Acer One netbook, the "Cisco Connect" loaded up to 25% & then I couldn't connect to the internet.  I've contacted Tech Support & they suggested downloading the latest wireless adapter driver.  I contacted Acer & they said it sounded like a security issue on my netbook.  I was out of warranty so they'd have to charge $150 for tech support.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Difficulties Connecting To E2500 With Some Devices

Jan 9, 2012

Just replaced a long-serving WRT54GS with an E2500 to gain a single feature… DHCP reservations for a bunch of web cams around my home. So far, the owner/user-experience with the 2500 has not been as positive as it was for the 54 or any of it's predecessors here and at my business. They just worked when you set them up, and once set up, they stayed set up. Zero futzing around with details. Some issues I'm seeking more expert input on:

My Panasonic Viera DVD/blueray player can access the web. Worked fine on the 54… access "Network" and 50% of the time it would join the network then and the other 50% of the time, you had to try a second time which I presume was the time it took for the device to gain access to the network. With the 2500, you can't ever (so far) get on by selecting "Network"… you have to go into the sub menu and have it dwell in the Network menu where it appears to make an ongoing effort to get onto the network. About 30% of the time, you get on… the other 70% no joy.My HP wireless printer will join the network if you dive into its menu system and tell it to look for the network. However, sitting at any of the computers on the network, you can't "get the printer's attention"… it just doesn't join and the print fails. You go over and use the printer's menu manually to get it on and it stays on for a short time, but it soon quits and that's the ball game.My Google Nexus One phone is a slightly different experience… it goes off the network as soon as you shut the screen down but, it seems like it comes back when you turn it on. With the 54, it seemingly remained in touch with the network better… things came in over the net while it was in my pocket. So, works better than the other two but I don't see why it goes away when on the 54 router, it didn't seem to.

In case it matters, this system is set up with DHCP, WPA2/personal and MAC filtering as was the case on the router(s) it is replacing. UPnP has been disabled. On 1.0.03 of the firmware. There are 6 DHCP reservations which also receive port forwards. I have adjusted the Beacon Interval, Frag threshold and RTS threshold for both frequencies and the MTU, all in accordance with recommendations under the support area for this site. Since everything worked well for both the 54 and its predecessor, I have to believe it's the 2500 that's the problem.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 - Getting Fraction Of Speed By Connecting Without It

Aug 19, 2011

I just bought an E2500 router, and am only getting a fraction of the speed I do by connecting without it. Both wireless and wired through the router I'm getting about 1 mbps, while without it I'm getting about 10 mbps.

I do live in an apartment, so I'd understand if there were some wireless interference going on, but would that explain away the wired issues too? I've also tried changing the channel (though only of the 2.4 GHz connection), and that's not working any.

As instructed in the video on the Linksys website, I plugged in the router, then the computer to cable to the router, then the router to the modem. When all was finished, I disconnected the cable from the computer to the router. Should I have left that in? When it's in, multiple networks shows in Network and Sharing Center.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Connecting E1200 To Speedtouch 546 Modem?

Mar 6, 2012

My parents are using a speedtouch 546 modem for their wired internet connection, but they would like wireles in their home. I therefore bought them a linksys e1200, and tried to get their wireless internet working.

I connected the e1200 to the speedtouch via kabel, used the cisco software to install the wifi network, and so far so good. The laptop has no problem connecting to the e1200, but no internet connection, whatever I do.

There seems to be a signal comming into the back of the e1200, since the led on both the speedtouch and the e1200 are responding, indicating that the two are sharing some information.

Looking for information on the net, I came onto 3 possible solutions.

One is cloning the MAC adress of the to the speedtouch connected wired computer to the e1200. The second has something to do with interfering IP adress ranges. The third was uninstalling the cisco software, reconnecting and resetting the modem. Let windows find the hardware and just install the e1200 drivers.

Telus 3G - No Network Access To Router?

Jun 15, 2011

I have an telus 3G air card for internet access, as that is the only forum of internet avalible to me other than dialup. So, in order to make this air card usable to the entire house over wifi, I simply did an ICS to my LAN port, and ran the LAN from that computer into the Internet source port on my router.

All worked well, using two laptops and an iPad over this makeshift wifi, for a few hours.

But then iTunes crashed so I had to restart that computer, and now, I can't get any network acces at all to my router, it comes up as an unidentified network and gives me network acces whatsoever, killing my wifi contraption.

For now I have the air card shared through a adhoc network hosted from the same computer and it's working fine, but I would much rather use the router for such a porpose.

Connecting Via RDP Through DSL Modem / Router -> Linksys -> Computer?

Feb 5, 2013

I'm sure that the modem/router is bridged which I think it means that it is sent to pass through the port number requests. What I did was go into my Linksys router, setup the port I want to forward to my 3389 (RDP port on the specific machine). Let's say port 45000. In the past, before Windstream took over and I had DSL with a local Telco, I would just enter my IP address and port number and I was in to the machine. Example: 171.234.54.191:45000 That would be the IP address of my modem (which just passed though the requests) to the router. Now when I do the same thing I just get an error message that looks like this: It seems that the modem/router is not passing though the request to the router. This is why I didn't want their new router/modem which the HAVE to charge $120 for worse quality machine than what I already had.

Linksys Access Point :: E2500 Obtaining IP Address Timing Out While Connecting

Dec 5, 2011

I have a E2500 router and 3 WAP610N access points.  Users are having a difficult time connecting to the AP's.  The client device just sits there trying to obtain an IP and then times out.  If they get within range of the actual wireless router, then connect instantly.  Is there a setting to increase that will allow longer time trying to obtain an IP?

I am using the same SSID for roaming, but am using different channels (1, 6, 11) for the overlap.  See diagram below.  Not sure if this has some impact?

We both can get back on pretty quickly by using the troubleshoot option on our desktops network button on the taskbar, however we'd like to know how to completely eradicate the disconnects as we both game online. We are using a Telus router which we received around a month ago. My brother is connected wirelessly and I am hardwired in. We are both using Windows 7 with newer PC's (within the past year). Neither of us have a clue about networking so we are totally blanked on what settings to tweak to fix this issue, especially since it's not exclusively wireless or wired-in.

We have even put the LAN from the second Wireless into the desktop and there is no connectivity. We have had a technician come to sort the problem, they advise that they have no explanation as to why the LAN works from the distance but the wireless does not. They have suggested that we need to cut the CAT5 half way and put an antenna up to connect the two routers.

Cisco WAN :: 2611 - Connecting Home Lab Router To Cable Modem Over Wireless Access

Mar 11, 2012

My home lab is in a different room than the cable modem.  I have a wireless N router in the room with the cable modem.  I have a wireless access point that is connected to a Cisco 2611XM routers fa0/0 interface.  The 2611 accepts the DHCP address from the wireless router.  However, I can't ping past the wireless LAN 192.168.10.0 network. I know with the wireless router it's two layers of DHCP.  Should remove  the DHCP settings from the wireless router?  The wireless router is a  TrendNet TEW-651BR.  I can ping my iphone or any device conntected to the wireless router.  And my laptop can ping default gateway of the wireless router, which I assume is the cable modem, however the 2611 cannot.  So I'm assuming that's why the hosts behind the 2611 can't get to the internet.  I followed the below instructions.   I know the instructions don't assume your using a wirelss router between 2611 and the cable modem.  But, I really don't want to run a cable to the cable modem.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Reset Static DNS On A Linksys E2500?

Oct 4, 2012

I previously entered in settings for the "Static DNS" 1 through 3 (using ip addresses from OpenDNS and one from Google DNS).
I want to remove these so the router reverts to using the DNS allocated to it by the ADSL modem (which will likely be the IP of the modem, which then forwards the requests to the DNS from the ISP).But I can't clear the Static DNS settings. I have to put in 0.0.0.0 but the last zero is not accessed. I get the error: The value is out of range [1 - 254].So I end up with 0.0.0.1 and then all Internet access is lost on the computers because they are being given a bad DNS IP.

How can I reset the static DNS ip address back to 0.0.0.0 ?
