When I connect my DSL modem to my DLINK wireless router, two identical DEFAULT connections appear in my wireless connection detection. Both will only connect locally.

I have tried different antennas and various locations for the antennas, but with little improvement. I prefer not to purchase signal amplifier. I have a second identical router. Can it be connected to the current router (LAN output) and by way of a cat5 cable, placed on the second floor to boost the second floor wireless signal?
View 8 Replies View RelatedVirgin media superhub was swapped for a new identical one as some users were unable to connect, but my connection was fine. When i booted my system up after it was configured by virgin I could see all connections but clicking on any "connect" button doesn't yield any form of output from the computer. Password problem? I dont get a response whenever I click "connect" on any of the other 20 wireless connections that i'm picking up, none of them being mine. When trying to add a new network from "network and sharing centre" via "set up a new connection or network" button on the mainpage or "add" button on the "manage wireless networks" tab yields the same, absolutely no reaction from the system.Now, I only add this info for science of deduction purposes, because it is truly baffling me right now, but when i first discovered the problem and went into "devices and printers" in contr panel and "add a device" my computer paused and then BSOD'd.
Things I have tried:
Updated the network card drivers Ran start up recovery - no problems detected after 20x running Logged onto the superhub through another users system and added my mac address to allowed lists, reserved i.p. address - both on and off, all combinations Pressed the wireless card button on the back of my system on and off, repeatedly Disabled/enabled network adapters in device manager Run winsock and dns flushes, ip release and renewals (e.g. things like "netsh int ip reset; netsh winsock reset; ipconfig release;renew)
Each and every troubleshooter All the usual power issues, from setting maximum performance on the network card to unplugging and socketing the router main repeatedly Administrative tools-services-dhcp client-start&auto Tcp/IP protocols-ip and dns configured automatically?

Give Richard Branson a slap Observations/Details Everyone, EVERYONE else can connect to the network, no problem I have full strength signal to the connection I know the password and it certainly hasnt changed All we did was swap identical routers! Logged into my other windows on a partition (original user account, messy so partitioned and made a clean install, but this was long ago and no network issues ever existed) and have the old exclamation mark over signal bars - troubleshooting it causes nothing, but at least the adding network functions yields results and it says im technically connected to the router - ive tried all noted fixes above on this windows install also.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI turned on my PC this morning and I found I could not connect to the Internet. I have a few other computers and devices in the house that are ALL connecting to the Internet fine. I've tried basic things like unplugging /re-plugging the Ethernet cable, resetting router, attempting to set up a new network, system restore, running norton anti-virus to detect any potential problems etc all of which haven't resolved the issue.
I also checked my device manager to see if my drivers were up to date and I found that under 'Other Devices' my Network Controller stated that the drivers were not installed. I'm not sure if this is the issue (considering my Internet was working absolutely fine less than 24hrs beforehand) but I can't search the Internet to automatically find the driver for obvious reasons.
I found a few people suggesting to use the hardware id to find the appropriate driver, any direct link to the driver. My network controller hardware id is below:

I just had charter install a wireless cable modem into my house and it was put in my study. however, i would now like to get my xbox 360 running as well as the internet for my blue-ray player and tv. So i bought a wireless router.The modem from charter is called: Ubee wireless cable modem (from charter)The wireless router purchases is: Netgear N300 wireless router (wnr2000v3) I am trying to connect them wirelessly. Connection through LAN is fine into desktop however the minute we try to connect an additional wireless router the connection fails. We have even put the LAN from the second Wireless into the desktop and there is no connectivity.We have had a technician come to sort the problem, they advise that they have no explanation as to why the LAN works from the distance but the wireless does not. They have suggested that we need to cut the CAT5 half way and put an antenna up to connect the two routers.

We are able to connect to one or the other and can print when connected to the home network or we can surf when connected to the Pantech. I have followed the instructions on the set up wizard but it fails to get a connection with the IP and DNS info I provide.I got the IP address info by connecting intially direct from the modem to the PC and then went to Run CMD and type ipconfig /all. I then started the set up wizard and followed the instructions, turning things on in specific order etc. After input the IP and DNS info it reports an error and tells me to check the address information is correct.My internet is a static IP connection (so it tells me and the IP information doesn't change).
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys E2500 and I'm trying to connect it to my ISP provided router (Actiontec V1000H) because I wanted better range and consistent connectivity for my 6+ wireless devices.My problem is that, to make this work, I connected an Ethernet cable from the E2500's yellow internet port to one of my V1000H's LAN ports. This, however, did not give me access to the internet even though the network for my E2500 was available in the network list and selected as the default network. I then had to go the the advanced settings of the E2500, and changed the router IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.2. This granted me internet access.However, everyone i've talked to including coworkers and experts at dslreports said that, because of what I've done I've set up a double NAT with 2 potentially conflicting IP addresses, and down the road weird issues will arise because of it. They also suggested I connect the E2500 to a dedicated modem to avoid this problem. However, the dedicated modem I was sent was faulty and did not allow internet access even through the ethernet connection. So, until I get a new dedicated modem, I have to use the router/modem combo.What should I do? Should I set up the E2500 as just a wireless access point for my existing router/modem combo? What do I need to edit in the advanced settings?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy parents are using a speedtouch 546 modem for their wired internet connection, but they would like wireles in their home. I therefore bought them a linksys e1200, and tried to get their wireless internet working.
I connected the e1200 to the speedtouch via kabel, used the cisco software to install the wifi network, and so far so good. The laptop has no problem connecting to the e1200, but no internet connection, whatever I do.
There seems to be a signal comming into the back of the e1200, since the led on both the speedtouch and the e1200 are responding, indicating that the two are sharing some information.
Looking for information on the net, I came onto 3 possible solutions.
One is cloning the MAC adress of the to the speedtouch connected wired computer to the e1200. The second has something to do with interfering IP adress ranges. The third was uninstalling the cisco software, reconnecting and resetting the modem. Let windows find the hardware and just install the e1200 drivers.
I want to create a DMZ by having a less sophisticated router connected to cable modem, which would have the webserver which contains no sensitive information, and then the EA3500 to which my laptops and desktops which contain sensitive information would connect to. Can CCC work through that first router?
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhere I work, we have four computers connected on a network with a Telus combination router and modem (I should probably also mention that two of the computers are connected to a switch which is then connected to the Telus modem/router because that is how the previous tenants set it up) . Recently, my boss wanted to have two different wi-fis, one as a guest wireless and a password one for the employees so he bought a Cisco E2500. I set up the second router as a wireless access point, but eventually we started getting problems with IP conflicts which started messing with the work group connections.
How I'd go about setting up the E2500 properly so that there are no problems like I've been having (having to reset the modem/router constantly for the internet to work, computers being assigned different IP addresses and problems connecting to the server over the workgroup network).

Just now I bought this router. When I am trying to configure it with default firmware is not identifying the modem itself. So Afyter facing this problem, I updated my Router firmware(TL-MR3220_v_2_120822) and retry the process. But this time, It identified the modem for few seconds, then its changes its trying to connecting, after that its change it state to unplugged.
My home lab is in a different room than the cable modem. I have a wireless N router in the room with the cable modem. I have a wireless access point that is connected to a Cisco 2611XM routers fa0/0 interface. The 2611 accepts the DHCP address from the wireless router. However, I can't ping past the wireless LAN 192.168.10.0 network. I know with the wireless router it's two layers of DHCP. Should remove the DHCP settings from the wireless router? The wireless router is a TrendNet TEW-651BR. I can ping my iphone or any device conntected to the wireless router. And my laptop can ping default gateway of the wireless router, which I assume is the cable modem, however the 2611 cannot. So I'm assuming that's why the hosts behind the 2611 can't get to the internet. I followed the below instructions. I know the instructions don't assume your using a wirelss router between 2611 and the cable modem. But, I really don't want to run a cable to the cable modem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo network was running fine for about a year or so. Network consists of 1 Motorola SB6120 cable modem attached to a D-Link DIR-601 wireless router. All settings were default except for SSID and WPA password. One day I just couldn't access internet anymore. I've narrowed it down to the default gateway that is being given out through DHCP. The default gateway that is being given out is the IP of the modem (192.168.100.1) and not of the Router (192.168.0.1). I can't find any option on Wireless router to be able to force the gateway address when handing out the gateway IP. Theoretically I thought I should be able to put router on same subnet as modem as 192.168.100.2 but that still doesn't work. If I set the IP adresses statically on the PCs and give it the Gateway of the Router everything works fine. I should mention this is for my boss' house and basically I dont want him calling me everytime he has a friend come over and I have to talk em through setting up a Static IP.
And just for an example this is what I get if I use DHCP:
IP Address: 192.168.0.155
Mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS: 192.168.0.1
Default Gateway: 192.168.100.1
And If I want it to work I have to change the default gateway to 192.168.0.1 I've tried updating routers firmware and reset to factory default numerous times. Is it possible for a router DHCP stop working?
I have the D-link dir-655 wireless router connected at my cable modem and i HAD a d'link switch patched in about 40 feet away. The switch died after 45 days.To solve the problem and extend my network I purchased an identicaldir-655 router to replace the switch. My thought was that i would configure both routers the same and be able to use the same network settings to access the network throughout my house.It didn't work.I even tried changing the IP address on the second router but it did something to the modem. After resetting everything, the original router works again. D'link support says what i am trying cannot be done, but i know it can.

Two days ago we received our new phone land line from Mediacom. We already had internet service from them so we decided to get a phone line. When they came over two days ago, we received a new modem, RCA DHG535-2. The issue we are experiencing is that the modem is not connecting to our rt n-16 ASUS wireless router. The modem works fine without the router but we need it for school work. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy aunt's connection was working fine until the other night. Apparently a storm we had knocked out their power and the next day they could not get on the internet. They were on the phone with tech support from their service provider and "had them reset the modem." This is basically all I could get as they are not very tech oriented.
From what I gathered: The modem and the router are not communicating with each other. The modem is a Motorola ADSL single port Ethernet modem, and the router is a Netgear Rangemax wireless router WPN824 v3 with the modem connected via the uplink port on the router. Whenever the ethernet cable to the PC is plugged directly into the modem, there is a connection. I exhausted my entire networking knowledge trying to figure out what could be causing this.
I currently have the default inspection engine configured in my firewall to inspect http traffic. I noticed that the ASA will drop packets when visting legitimate websites. I've tried googling for a workaround but have been unsucsselful. How can I exclude some websites or IP's from being affected by the inspection engine?

When my PC is connected straight to the ADSL modem everything works like charm. But when I connect modem with wan port on the router and router with my PC I get no internet access. The network shows as unidentified network and win7 troubleshooter says: Default gateway not available. Connecting them two devices seems pretty simple and I dont think I am doing anything wrong so what could be the problem?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm sure that the modem/router is bridged which I think it means that it is sent to pass through the port number requests. What I did was go into my Linksys router, setup the port I want to forward to my 3389 (RDP port on the specific machine). Let's say port 45000. In the past, before Windstream took over and I had DSL with a local Telco, I would just enter my IP address and port number and I was in to the machine. Example: 171.234.54.191:45000 That would be the IP address of my modem (which just passed though the requests) to the router. Now when I do the same thing I just get an error message that looks like this: It seems that the modem/router is not passing though the request to the router. This is why I didn't want their new router/modem which the HAVE to charge $120 for worse quality machine than what I already had.
