Linksys Wireless Router :: Difficulties Connecting To E2500 With Some Devices
Jan 9, 2012
Just replaced a long-serving WRT54GS with an E2500 to gain a single feature… DHCP reservations for a bunch of web cams around my home. So far, the owner/user-experience with the 2500 has not been as positive as it was for the 54 or any of it's predecessors here and at my business. They just worked when you set them up, and once set up, they stayed set up. Zero futzing around with details. Some issues I'm seeking more expert input on:
My Panasonic Viera DVD/blueray player can access the web. Worked fine on the 54… access "Network" and 50% of the time it would join the network then and the other 50% of the time, you had to try a second time which I presume was the time it took for the device to gain access to the network. With the 2500, you can't ever (so far) get on by selecting "Network"… you have to go into the sub menu and have it dwell in the Network menu where it appears to make an ongoing effort to get onto the network. About 30% of the time, you get on… the other 70% no joy.My HP wireless printer will join the network if you dive into its menu system and tell it to look for the network. However, sitting at any of the computers on the network, you can't "get the printer's attention"… it just doesn't join and the print fails. You go over and use the printer's menu manually to get it on and it stays on for a short time, but it soon quits and that's the ball game.My Google Nexus One phone is a slightly different experience… it goes off the network as soon as you shut the screen down but, it seems like it comes back when you turn it on. With the 54, it seemingly remained in touch with the network better… things came in over the net while it was in my pocket. So, works better than the other two but I don't see why it goes away when on the 54 router, it didn't seem to.
In case it matters, this system is set up with DHCP, WPA2/personal and MAC filtering as was the case on the router(s) it is replacing. UPnP has been disabled. On 1.0.03 of the firmware. There are 6 DHCP reservations which also receive port forwards. I have adjusted the Beacon Interval, Frag threshold and RTS threshold for both frequencies and the MTU, all in accordance with recommendations under the support area for this site. Since everything worked well for both the 54 and its predecessor, I have to believe it's the 2500 that's the problem.

Is it possible to connect my WAP54G to my new E2500 router?I previously had a WRT54G and had my WAP54G connected to it in AP Client mode. This enabled me to have internet access on my desktop computer that is located in another room downstairs.I would like to configure my WAP54G to work with my new E2500 router in the same way.

I recently installed a refurbished E2500 router. The reported speeds I got when hovering over the icon in the system tray ranged from 54 Mbps down to 1.0 Mbps. Also, it would drop, then reestablish, the connection several times per day.I contacted Tech Support via Live Chat, and got a woman who told me it was due to the fact that I'm using the router with an older system that has a wireless-G card (I'll be getting a new system soon).Of course, I thought that was ridiculous, so I called Linksys Tech Support and got a young man who had me reinstall the firmware upgrade (which I had already done when I installed the router). After that, it was good for about 24 hours, then the problems manifested again.I returned the router and ordered a replacement, also refrubished. Again, I upgraded the firmware upon installation. .

I recenlty bought an E2500 router. I was able to connect 4 of our laptops at home just fine. But when I tried to connect my Acer One netbook, the "Cisco Connect" loaded up to 25% & then I couldn't connect to the internet. I've contacted Tech Support & they suggested downloading the latest wireless adapter driver. I contacted Acer & they said it sounded like a security issue on my netbook. I was out of warranty so they'd have to charge $150 for tech support.

just replaced my WRT54GL with e2500 and i have a problem connecting my bridge (WET610N) to e2500 router, it connects fine, but no internet when i connect the bridge to another PC (bidrge says it's connected and got IP), same story with another router (WRT54GL) i connect it with the wire to the e2500 than connect to that router with wi fi and OOPS no internet when i connect to e2500 directly with laptop, iphone etc i have the internet connection, but when i connect the bridge or another router i get no internet looks like E2500 does not let the internet pass throught the bridge or other router.

I just bought an E2500 router, and am only getting a fraction of the speed I do by connecting without it. Both wireless and wired through the router I'm getting about 1 mbps, while without it I'm getting about 10 mbps.
I do live in an apartment, so I'd understand if there were some wireless interference going on, but would that explain away the wired issues too? I've also tried changing the channel (though only of the 2.4 GHz connection), and that's not working any.

I have a Linksys E2500 and I'm trying to connect it to my ISP provided router (Actiontec V1000H) because I wanted better range and consistent connectivity for my 6+ wireless devices. My problem is that, to make this work, I connected an Ethernet cable from the E2500's yellow internet port to one of my V1000H's LAN ports. This, however, did not give me access to the internet even though the network for my E2500 was available in the network list and selected as the default network. I then had to go the the advanced settings of the E2500, and changed the router IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.2. This granted me internet access. However, everyone i've talked to including coworkers and experts at dslreports said that, because of what I've done I've set up a double NAT with 2 potentially conflicting IP addresses, and down the road weird issues will arise because of it. They also suggested I connect the E2500 to a dedicated modem to avoid this problem. However, the dedicated modem I was sent was faulty and did not allow internet access even through the ethernet connection. So, until I get a new dedicated modem, I have to use the router/modem combo. What should I do? Should I set up the E2500 as just a wireless access point for my existing router/modem combo? What do I need to edit in the advanced settings?

On my dual band E2500, I have both the 2.4 and 5 GHZ enabled. I have a fairly new HP with an N wireless card but I cannot get it to connect at the 5GHZ frequency. The only computer that will connect at the speed is my wife's with an external Cisco wireless card. What the settings should be on the PC in order to get it to connect at the higher frequency?

Where I work, we have four computers connected on a network with a Telus combination router and modem (I should probably also mention that two of the computers are connected to a switch which is then connected to the Telus modem/router because that is how the previous tenants set it up) . Recently, my boss wanted to have two different wi-fis, one as a guest wireless and a password one for the employees so he bought a Cisco E2500. I set up the second router as a wireless access point, but eventually we started getting problems with IP conflicts which started messing with the work group connections.
How I'd go about setting up the E2500 properly so that there are no problems like I've been having (having to reset the modem/router constantly for the internet to work, computers being assigned different IP addresses and problems connecting to the server over the workgroup network).

I have 3 computers in total: 2 desktops and 1 laptop.
1. My primary PC is connected physically to my router.
2. My (downstairs) laptop is connected to the wireless.
3. My other PC connects to the wireless network via USB wireless adapter.
I was having issues getting #3 connected to the wireless network. I used the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ PIN number provided to me by the Linksys Wireless Manager to no avail. The E3000 router and #3 could never find each other. After calling support, it turns out that more often than not, "other" wirless management software (in my case Linksys Wireless Manager that came with the USB device) was interfering with my Windows XP Wireless Manager.Rule of thumb: Always let your native operating system manage the wirless networks that are available to it. It does a far better job and is 10x more reliable than software provided by 3rd party vendors.Specific to my case: Windows XP, I had to enable the Windows Wireless Manager and uninstall the Linksys Wireless Manager Software. Here it is...Enabling Windows Wireless Manager These directions are for Windows XP:
1) From the Windows Start menu, click Control Panel.
2) Click Network and Internet Connections.
3) Click Network Connections.
4) Right-click the icon for your "wireless network connection", then click Properties.
5) At the top of the window, click the Wireless Networks tab.
If the "Wireless Networks" tab does not appear between the "General" and "Advanced" tabs, you are not on/in the wireless network connection settings:a) click cancelb) Right-click the icon for your wireless connection and choose "Enable". c) return to step 4 6) Check the checkbox next to "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings".
These directions are for Windows Vista:
1) Go to the Windows start menu and then the control panel.
2) Open Network and Sharing Center.
3) Click Manage Network Connections (from the left side menu).
4) Right click on the network adapter 'Wireless Network Connection' and choose "Properties" and click "Continue".
5) At the top of the window, click the "Wireless Networks" tab.
If the "Wireless Networks" tab does not appear between the "General" and "Advanced" tabs: a) click cancel b) Right-click the icon for your wireless connection and choose "Enable". c) Return to step 4
6) Check the checkbox next to "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings".

I was attempting to use my EA4200 in bridge mode but found out for some reason my devices weren't connecting to the internet. So I decided to try to access the router through the IP address of the router with no avail. So I pull the router and plug it in normally and notice that it keeps flashing. So that already gives me an idea something is wrong. I go through the process of unplugging everything from the router, and plugging my PC directly into the LAN port 1 of the router then powering it up. On my network connection list it keeps trying to identify the network but keeps failing (keep in mind that the router still is flashing). So I decide to attempt a 10 second reset, then a 30 second, then a 30-30-30. All with no success. The router keeps flashing.
Which gets me to the point where I am now... router flashing at me, and wondering if this now out of warrenty unit was a waste of money. I am noticing that a lot of people have had questions and issues with the E4200v2 which now concerns me, well hopefully this can be fixed.

I I use a Linksys E3000 router. Sometimes when I look at the network map I see a device called "Unknown." It appears as though the two notebooks sometime are going through this device to access the Linksys E3000. (I've checked when both notebooks are on and I can determine what devices are connecting directly to the router and what devices are going through this unknown device.) Is there any way to determine what this unknown device is?

I have installed my new E4200 and it works beautifully. I have several wirelss adapters and a few wired connections through powerline adapters. I also have a second VPN router attached to the 4200.I can see the wireless connected devices with the associated IP addresses. If I plug a laptop directly into the Cisco, I can of course see it.However, I can see none of the devices attatched to the powerline devices? I have a securty cam connected via the powerline and want to know the IP address. I checked with cisco technical support via chat and they said it is impossible. I have used 2 previous routers with the same configuration and can see all devices.

Wireless router started randomly not allowing any wireless devices to connect to the network. A wired cable worked fine, but not wireless. So we had to unplug the router and then it would work fine. You could see the device, but not connect. We moved our wireless phone a little farther away from the router thinking it was interfering, but still no luck. It didn't matter if it was an iPod, our BluRay player, or a laptop.

I have a E2500 router and 3 WAP610N access points. Users are having a difficult time connecting to the AP's. The client device just sits there trying to obtain an IP and then times out. If they get within range of the actual wireless router, then connect instantly. Is there a setting to increase that will allow longer time trying to obtain an IP?
I am using the same SSID for roaming, but am using different channels (1, 6, 11) for the overlap. See diagram below. Not sure if this has some impact?

The problem that I'm having is basically that my router isn't giving right ip addresses to my devices. I've tried to connect a wireless printer (HP for doubts) and the router gave a 169.254.XXX.XXX ip address to it. If I unplug/plug the router, the problem is solved. It can also be fixed by using the "reboot device" tool that the router has at the configuration page. But this only works for some hours, so it isn't
Now, it isn't a printer problem. It has also happened with some notebooks, with around 5 to 6, not all of them. I've tried changing channels, resetting the router, changing password, security password type, changing firmware (present is 3.11NA H/W C2), and nothing can fix it.

I'm currently setting the MAC address filtering for my Linksys E2500 router. I have about 20 devices which i'm allowing to access my router, so i keyed in the MAC addresses into the config page and save setting. But only 16 addresses are registered, the rest refused to register no matter how many times i key in, it just reset back to 00:00:00:00:00:00 after i click on save setting.

I have a Samsung 55" internet enabled TV connected to the router and also have few devices that can stream over UPnP to the TV. The option to enable the UPnP is enabled in the router configuration however its not finding devices in the network ... comparing that with Linksys ... all i had to do is enable the UPnP and all my devices discovered each other and started streaming without any issue. What do i need to do in D-Link to enable the UPnP devices ...

I previously entered in settings for the "Static DNS" 1 through 3 (using ip addresses from OpenDNS and one from Google DNS).
I want to remove these so the router reverts to using the DNS allocated to it by the ADSL modem (which will likely be the IP of the modem, which then forwards the requests to the DNS from the ISP).But I can't clear the Static DNS settings. I have to put in 0.0.0.0 but the last zero is not accessed. I get the error: The value is out of range [1 - 254].So I end up with 0.0.0.1 and then all Internet access is lost on the computers because they are being given a bad DNS IP.
How can I reset the static DNS ip address back to 0.0.0.0 ?

I want to add my E2500 as a second wireless router to cover my entire house.I have a Motorola Surfboard SBG6580 cable modem (Time-Warner) at one end of the house.I added via powerline Ethernet connection a new E2500 wireless router at the other end of the house. The E2500 set-up with all defaults and has the same SSID and Password as the Surfboard cable modem. It seems to work OK, but I wonder about network confusion/interference.Do I have to configure the E2500 in some manner to allow seamless roaming of my wireless devices (iPad, Cell Phones, Netbook)?I had an RE1000 with just the Surfboard, but it did not quite do the trick, and does not like both routers connected at either end.

DHCP is disabled on the E2500. I can use my E2500 as a wired access point with no difficulty I plug something in and it calls the router and gets an address, but I can not get DHCP through the wireless of the E2500.
