Jan 9, 2012Just replaced a long-serving WRT54GS with an E2500 to gain a single feature… DHCP reservations for a bunch of web cams around my home. So far, the owner/user-experience with the 2500 has not been as positive as it was for the 54 or any of it's predecessors here and at my business. They just worked when you set them up, and once set up, they stayed set up. Zero futzing around with details. Some issues I'm seeking more expert input on:
My Panasonic Viera DVD/blueray player can access the web. Worked fine on the 54… access "Network" and 50% of the time it would join the network then and the other 50% of the time, you had to try a second time which I presume was the time it took for the device to gain access to the network. With the 2500, you can't ever (so far) get on by selecting "Network"… you have to go into the sub menu and have it dwell in the Network menu where it appears to make an ongoing effort to get onto the network. About 30% of the time, you get on… the other 70% no joy.My HP wireless printer will join the network if you dive into its menu system and tell it to look for the network. However, sitting at any of the computers on the network, you can't "get the printer's attention"… it just doesn't join and the print fails. You go over and use the printer's menu manually to get it on and it stays on for a short time, but it soon quits and that's the ball game.My Google Nexus One phone is a slightly different experience… it goes off the network as soon as you shut the screen down but, it seems like it comes back when you turn it on. With the 54, it seemingly remained in touch with the network better… things came in over the net while it was in my pocket. So, works better than the other two but I don't see why it goes away when on the 54 router, it didn't seem to.
In case it matters, this system is set up with DHCP, WPA2/personal and MAC filtering as was the case on the router(s) it is replacing. UPnP has been disabled. On 1.0.03 of the firmware. There are 6 DHCP reservations which also receive port forwards. I have adjusted the Beacon Interval, Frag threshold and RTS threshold for both frequencies and the MTU, all in accordance with recommendations under the support area for this site. Since everything worked well for both the 54 and its predecessor, I have to believe it's the 2500 that's the problem.

Aug 8, 2011I am using a E2500 which is connected to my modem arris model tm602g/115 isp provider is cox. for some reason every1 time my lil bro turn on his ps3 and while im connected to the network it will disconnect me and also he gets disconnected and for some reason we both wont be able to connect to internet. we both are using wireless connection.
Here are my settting on the router. I also 3 have iphones that i want to connect the network with any 1 other device that i would like to connect the network with.

Jan 31, 2013Everything in our small network worked until today when I had to manually reset the router. We run a application through a provider which requires that we view it from the same IP address for access. We have a statis IP assigned by our ISP solely for this purpose. For simplicity, lets us 23.11.23.176 as the statis assigned by our ISP and 23.11.23.175 as the gateway also assigned by our ISP. The application we need to browse requires that we use the 23.11.23.175 address else it is blocked from viewing. When we hard line into the modem, we are able to browse it fine. When I connect the CISCO router and do it wirelessly, it shows our address as 23.11.23.176 what are the required steps in order to set the CISCO router to use the Gateway address as the browsing IP for computers connected to it. We had set it up about a year ago, and i completely forgot how.

Cisco's interface looks poor; there is no way to see the connected devices.Many of the devices I have have a 5 Ghz radio and some don't so i need to see at what speeds they are connecting at.Or does Cisco not provide this utility? I am surprised that a high-end product from Cisco does not have this function.

Mar 6, 2013I have an EA 4500. Tonight I was trying to see what devices were connected. The window shows 0 devices connected, although about 20 devices are connected and working. When I click on "Devices Connected", I get the spinning wheel, and after multiple attempts by the application to list devices, I receive a message that the application does not work. I have the latest firmware installed. This is a recent issue. I have not made any changes to network configuration, nor to any of the devices that all have internet access. I will note that I did not set up a separate SSID for each band. But that did not seem to be an issue in previous months. I also cannot access the router ui from my windows 7 desktop. I can access the abbreviated ui through my Android phone. I tried connecting through smart wi-fi and by ip of the router. I just get the endless spinning circle of dots. I am running Windows 7 all up to date. All drivers are up to date.

It also seems to randomly shuffle which devices to show as connected, even though several more than nine are connected and online. Does anyone else's device list limit itself to displaying only nine devices? The Linksys phone apps also display a maximum of nine devices. I like the routers new user interface and understand that it has received a lot of praise, however this is the second bug I've experienced in as many months (the first being a failure of the device list to update once devices are upgraded to Windows 8, requiring a reset to default settings in order to fix).

Nov 6, 2011For a while now, my wireless network at home has been very unreliable. I posted on these forums before, asking for assistance to fix crashes that seemed to be random. I was largely unsuccessful, and the problem continued. However, as I continued to experiment with different methods to keep my network up and running, I noticed that as long as I had at least one device connected to the network around-the-clock it never crashed. This was easy enough, as I own an iPod touch and a dock (I would leave it sitting it the dock unlocked all the time). But it's annoying to never be able to leave the house with it, and I'm ready to finally get a solution to the problem once and for all. I would prefer not getting a new router, but if worse comes to worse I will.
To sum it up:
-Works perfectly (when up) at full speed, never crashes unless there are no devices connected to it.
-When it does crash, it is very difficult to 'coax' it back into working again; it's been down for weeks at a time before.
-For some strange reason (and maybe this is a clue), newer game systems such as a Nintendo DSi or PS3 can make it start working again. I, of course, own neither of these.
-I'm using a WRT160N V3, latest firmware as far as i know.

Dec 28, 2011Well i recently purchased a Linksys e2500 router,so i connect it to my modem and then to my PC, all by Ethernet cable(no wireless) as i want my pc connected by cable, i go through the set up CD and it finishes and says you are now connected to your router but..... not to the internet and it tells me to restart the modem with i have done, i have also tried power cycling modem, router and PC, but i still get the same old problem and when i go in network connections my local area connection says i am connected but it wont let me use the internet. also above when i have been trying to set up the router this "Internet Gateway" pops up in my network connections and it is disabled and whenever i try to enabled it it just says failed.
I'm on Cable broadband my modem is a Motorola SB5101 SURFboard cable modem and the router is an Linksys Cisco e2500 and i am using windows xp sp 3

Jul 21, 2011I have a big house so I have a e4200 on one end of the house upstairs and the WAP610n on the other end downstairs linked via CA6. I am having no issues with Laptops etc..just with Apple devices. I spent a lot of time with chat support (waste of time). WAP was flashed with latest firmware via hard wire no devices connected to wireless, has same ssid and security settings as router running on 2.4 ghz wpa2 personal AES. I am using 2.4 due to iphone4 does not support 5ghz and wap does not support dual band (another bummer). I am using AES instead of TKIP/AES mixed mode due to apple devices will not acquire dhcp with this setting and if they do they lose it right away. I have tried everything imaginable with the settings even changed beacon to 75, 50 RTS to 2304 etc...the current setting are the only ones that seem to work the best however when i run speedtest.net LA server or SD server the performance is horrible. On windows laptop i can achieve 27mbps down 2.5mbpsup, my apple devices use to achieve very close numbers to that on a simple configuration with two Dlink DGL-4300's one as router one as AP (G mode). So two major issues i have noticed is WAP610N has issues passing DHCP to apple devices and has extremely poor performance. So my question is will there be a firmware to correct this issue or a new hardware version that i can exchange this for if I RMA it or would it be best to call it a day and just get a E3200 and use it as a real simultaneous dual band AP???

Aug 15, 2011I have installed my new E4200 and it works beautifully. I have several wirelss adapters and a few wired connections through powerline adapters. I also have a second VPN router attached to the 4200.I can see the wireless connected devices with the associated IP addresses. If I plug a laptop directly into the Cisco, I can of course see it.However, I can see none of the devices attatched to the powerline devices? I have a securty cam connected via the powerline and want to know the IP address. I checked with cisco technical support via chat and they said it is impossible. I have used 2 previous routers with the same configuration and can see all devices.

Feb 18, 2013My wireless router [Linksys WRT54G] has recently been dropping the connection simultaneously between two desktops. I have one desktop plugged into the router with an enthernet cord, but the other is running a wireless card. I recently got a Windows notice stating that there is an IP address conflict between my two computers. I check my IP addresses using my ipaddress.com and both computers are sharing the same IP address. I also checked the connection with my smartphone and when I am connected to the internet through my wireless; it gives me the same IP address as well. So, every device I'm using through my router is giving the same IP address at my ip address.com. I'm assuming this may be what is occasionally knocking my router offline, causing me to have to reset, but it will knock both computers offline within a few minutes of resetting.
I believe that all 3 devices should have different IP addresses when connecting to the internet, so is this a setting I need to adjust in the router, and if so where do I go, or can I try to assign one of my desktop computers a new IP address? I have no idea why my smartphone would be using the same IP address when connected through the router either. I'm going to guess that the problem is with a setting within my router.
Wifi Devices Can See Router But Not Connected
Jan 7, 2012What's happened is that after transferring my old PC's data onto my new one, and putting that one in place of my old one, therefore hooking up my modem to it, my wireless devices have been having trouble connecting to the router. Everything's hooked up fine, and it was working perfectly before, but now my devices such as my laptop and Droid Pro can SEE the router (As in connect to it and say that they are getting excellent signal strength), but when I try to open my browser, it asks as if I'm not connected to anything at all. The PC that's wired to the modem through the router works fine, however.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Reset Static DNS On A Linksys E2500?
Oct 4, 2012I previously entered in settings for the "Static DNS" 1 through 3 (using ip addresses from OpenDNS and one from Google DNS).
I want to remove these so the router reverts to using the DNS allocated to it by the ADSL modem (which will likely be the IP of the modem, which then forwards the requests to the DNS from the ISP).But I can't clear the Static DNS settings. I have to put in 0.0.0.0 but the last zero is not accessed. I get the error: The value is out of range [1 - 254].So I end up with 0.0.0.1 and then all Internet access is lost on the computers because they are being given a bad DNS IP.
How can I reset the static DNS ip address back to 0.0.0.0 ?
