Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 - Few Seconds For Web Interface To Display
Jul 16, 2011
I have a E4200 setup for 2.4 & 5G running the latest firmware. When I connect to the router wireless 192.168.1.1 and log in, it takes a few seconds for the web interface to display. Same happens when switching to the different config tabs. Is there any reason for this? I would think it would be immediate but it takes anywhere from 3-5 seconds for IE9 to respond.

I have several E4200 routers deployed in our library district. In one branch, we have been having sporadic problems with computers not being able to maintain a connection. Typically the computer will connect and then the connection will drop and Windows will display the yellow error triangle on the wifi signal strength display.I have swapped the router with another brand new E4200 with the latest firmware but am still having this problem.

Just upgraded my E4200 to firmware 1.0.03 (from 1.0.01). I have some new issues, questions, and some outstanding issues.
1) Web interface over https is now painfully slow.
2) Does DDNS work in bridge mode? DynDNS allows the sending of an update without an IP address, so it should be able to work.
3) Does accessing the management interface in bridge mode count as local or remote?
4) I'd really like to be able to get WOL working through the router. I managed to create a static DHCP reservation for 192.168.1.254 to ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff, but I don't think the router added that entry to the ARP table, is there any way to do this.
(I think have WOL forwarded to 192.168.1.254). 5) Should the router be providing some local dns hostnames? For example I have the device name set up in the local network setup, but it won't resolve. Similar for connected devices, especially those with with a DHCP reservation. 6) In bridge mode, does it matter which port is used to connect to the other network device? Does it have to be the WAN port?

Any chance of one or preferably both of these before I flash the router to a more competent firmware?Rather ridiculous that there's no interface counters and no SNMP server. I prefer keeping stock firmware where possible but I need this functionality, it really isn't a big ask. That said I have an E4200 v1, which already looks like abandonware given it's been 6 months since the last firmware update - not amused and no intention of swapping a high performance router for one that sacrifices performance for better NAS functionality.

how to get at the configuration interface for the "built-in" Twonky server on the E4200.Specifically, I'm trying to figure out how to get to the "clients.db" file and the area of the UI where I can configure the receiver settings. I'm getting the dreaded "unknown file format" message when streaming mp4 files to my Samsung BD-C6500 bluray player. Installing Twonky on my laptop and working with the problematic files has shown that the solution is a simple matter for BD-C6500 understand how the files are encoded.

However, when I initially connect to the router, either on the LAN or remotely via the internet, the router takes a long time to display the initial page (up to 1 minute) and then usually displays the page without any variable data included. Frequently it also fails to show the menu on the left either. By hitting Refresh several times, eventually it will load the page fully.

I have a WRT 160N v2 router. There's 1 computer wired to it, that works fine. Then I have 2 laptops and a pc wireless to it. One laptop is a mac and that seems to be fine, another is a Compaq notebook that has trouble connecting and the pc has the same problem. The signal strength is very good to excellent so thats not the issue. What happens with the pc is, it will connect but at times its only for a few seconds then it disconnects. Sometimes restarting the computer fixes it for a while but it will eventually start having the problem again. It detects the wireless network just fine, and the router's firmware is up to date. I have a feeling that its the settings in the router but im not sure what to change.Â

I have installed my E3200 downstream from the Verizon FiOS Actiontec (going the other way disables FiOS functions). 1. My browser can get to the E3200 (192.168.1.2) when connected via wireless, but not when connected via ethernet cable. 2. When going to connect wirelessly, the 2GHz connection is visible but the 5 GHz connection is not (I have them named differently).   How do I see both wireless connections?

I installed dd-wrt latest for this router but it wont show any connections to the ports. I can connect to the router with my internet port connected to the computer but that is it. I tried connecting the modem to a port connection and it showed connected. I'm confused as the firmware loaded fine. May be I went over my abilities which is usually the case.

I picked up an E1200 and set it up successfully. Â I am using wireless MAC filtering, and decided to pull up the list of connected wireless clients (Wireless >> Wireless MAC Filter >> push "Wireless Client List" button).Immediately after this the Web UI of the E1200 becomes inaccessible. Â It still routes traffic, and the router remains pingable, but it will not allow access to the Web UI for several minutes. Â The error that appears upon attempt to access the Web UI during this time window is similar to the above, but reads "Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): The server refused the connection."
Â
I have tried this in Google Chrome, Firefox 4, and MSIE on two separate computers. Â Each browser displays the error a bit differently (MSIE, for example, just says it can't display the page and gives no further detail) but the net results are always the same. Â I have tried resetting the device to factory defaults in addition to re-downloading the firmware from the Cisco/Linksys website and installing it. Â No improvement.
Â
I have also noted that the Log (Administration >> Log; and yes, I have it enabled) doesn't appear to be picking up anything at all.  In fact, the Security log, which supposedly (according to the Help) "displays the login information for the Router’s browser-based utility," is also blank.

I have Linksys WRT160N v2 wifi router that I have been using for over a year now, till two months back I was very happy with the router, speed was good without any signal issues though in last couple of weeks I have noticed that the router has started to create problems like the browsing will stop it self for a few seconds without any reason (specially I notice this when I am on youtube playing a video that will stop after 2 or 3 minutes).

My wireless from my Linksys E2000 router NEVER works. I've tried the same things and I have also tried to change the Advanced wireless settings, none of these things worked. When I unplug the energy cable from my router for ~15 secs, I sometimes can connect to a Wireless signal, this signal remains for about 30 seconds and is then gone again. This happens even if I'm standing right next to my router.I have no idea what the problem is, even I find this story very unbelievable, but I have tried everything I could and still we never have Wireless

I have a Linksys WRT54G2 v1 router which is having a daily problem of connectiing to the Internet on my home wireless LAN. My temporary solution is to disconnect the power from the router for about 15 seconds and plug it back in .... and all is well.... at least for another day or so.The real problem is that instead of properly connecting to IPv4 address 192.168.1.100 ..... it randomly connects to Autoconfiguration IPv4 address 169.254.29.54 When this problem occurs the SSID list shows both my 192 connection as well as a public network with no Internet connection?
Â
I've used this router for several years without a problem until I recently bought a new Canon wireless MG5320 printer which initially had problems connecting to my LAN. After a telco with tech support the printer works fine but now I am now experiencing the Autoconfig address problem. My LAN consist of the WRT54G router, a Motorola cable modem, a Lenovo laptop running Win7 64bit, a Hp desktop running Win7 64bit and the Canon wireless printer. (all connected wirelessly)

My new EA4500 works fine all day, both wireless and wifi, on both bands, but nearly every evening, the wifi signal disappears, as shown on a wifi app for my smart phone, but not on Issid on my laptop, strangely, and my PC laptop and iPad both disconnect, then reconnect. Smart phone disconnects too. It isn't like the signal drops in strength, it just goes away! I have tried various settings on modes, and bandwidths, I am using different SSID's on each band, WPA2 security with a long non-dictionary passphrase and MAC filtering. The hardwire connection works great at 30+ Mbps even when the wifi is disappearing from the wifi scanner and the wifi connections are dropping. In other words, the cable connection/modem is working fine, but the wifi radio signal stops or the SSID drops off the signal. I really can't tell, but I know it is becoming very frustrating. The old WRT54GS works fine if I put it back on-line in the evening when these things start to happen.Â
Â
I have turned off everything I can think of in the house that transmits or might transmit, in case it is an interference thing. I have tried disabling the 5 GHz side, since I can't see what is happening on that band, and the last thing I tried was changing the MTU from 1500 to 1400. So far, the past evening, it was okay, but I am not confident it will stay that way.Â

I bought a EA4500 to replace my old WRT54G earlier this year. At first the router worked fine. After the automatic firmware upgrade to Cisco Connect Cloud, I was never able to get the Connect Cloud stuff to work, constant 500 Internal Server errors when trying to access the router with the Internet cable attached. Â So I downgraded back to the old firmware and all was well again. Then I started having problems a few months ago, when I would wake up in the morning, the router would be cycling the Internet port on and off. I could usually reboot everything and it would work the rest of the day. I lived with it like this a while, and support couldn't seem to find anything wrong. Eventually it started getting worse, until the point I could hardly ever get it to stay connected. I got Cisco to RA the old router and I figured problem solved. Now while the EA4500 was gone, I used my WRT54G again, and everything worked fine for nearly two weeks while I was waiting on the replacement EA4500.
So today the new EA4500 showed up, I connected and configured it, and it worked for a short time. Then suddenly I lost Internet, looked up at the modem and the LAN light was going on and off every few seconds. So I'm back in the same boat as before.I've tried changing cables, same setup works fine with the WRT54G. Modem works fine with WRT54G and connected directly to the computer, zero problems. I tried lowering the MTU, turning on MAC address cloning, and various other things. My modem is a HughesNet HN9000.

My router is the WRT160N, and it doesn't display the version number on the bottom which according to your website means my router is a VERSION 1.SO, why is it that my router says it has:
Â
Firmware Version: v1.53.0   Dec 19, 2007
 And the latest firmware is
 Firmware 11/08/2010 Ver.1.02.11
Â
That looks like an EARLIER firmware version to me judging by the firmware version yet it is dated later. **bleep**. If you want, I can upload a photo of my router's model no. for all to see.My question is, am I safe to 'upgrade' to this 'earlier but dated later' firmware version or not? Why is mine showing as having a later version.

Went to log into the web admin interface on my SG-300 today and I get this in both IE and Firefox:
Â
I'm not able to login by typing user/password and just pressing enter. I've tried power-cycling the switch, however, since the power cycle, the font-panel system LED has been blinking green. I seem to recall, though I can't locate the reference now, that this means the switch is running with factory settings, but that cannot be right because:
Â
1. I had previously saved a new configuration on the switch, which it should be using now.
2. It is answering on the configured non-factory IP address -- just not rendering the web admin interface successfully.
Â
I've had this unit for approximately a month. This is not the first issue I have had with this unit (see: [URL] and I'm experiencing some strange LAN speed issues since I installed it. Do I need to RMA this thing?

I have a ASA5540 firewall set-up with an interface MTU of 1500. Â
Â
I suspect that we are receiving packets with a larger MTU but have not found an easy way of confirming this.  Any command that can be run on the firewall to display the MTU packet size being received on an interface?
Â
We are also running Solar Winds so could query an OID if such a variable exists.

I have been using a Linksys E3000 router for a few months now. Love it. But this last week, when ever I wake my monitor up after it's power saving mode kicks in, I lose my internet connection for about 15 seconds. If you look at the router before the monitor is on, I am connected. The light is on for port 1. But as soon as my monitor gets turned back on, it light just turns off and will reconnect after about 15 seconds. I've looked it up online and can only find things about when the entire system wakes up, and usually those people have to reboot their entire system to get a connection again, or turn the router off then back on. Using Windows 7?

After upgrading two laptops to windows 8, they will no longer appear as a connected device under the "device list." They both access the router via wifi and wired, but neither appear in the device list any longer. I've rebooted the router twice, as well as both computers, disabled/re-enabled their wifi connections, but no effect.Every other non-Windows 8 device still appears normally under the device list.

I have a recurring issue with my e4200v1. My wired and wireless connections work fine, but I can't get to the administration website. I have https only set up, and after I get thru the 'certificate error' screen, I get an error that says web page is unavailable. Firfefox tells me that the connection was lost - error 101.I have tried wired and wireless, multiple computers, multiple browsers. Â I even turned the firewall off on one computer (or I think I did anyway). The only way I know how to fix it is by completely resetting then setting up the router all over again.

Upgraded from WRT610N to E4200. Since upgrading to latest firmware the wan just disappears both 5 and 2.5 Ghz bands. Happened with older firmware but not as often. Using it in briged mode. When this happens I can't even get to the management page with a lan connected pc. Have to do a hard reboot to get it to respond again. This is unacceptable for a router at this price point.

I am connecting the E4200 to a Sonicwall TZ100. I want the TZ100 to assign IP addresses to devices that connect to the LAN via the E4200.
Â
How do I have the E4200 act as a WAP only or not assign IP addresses and push that responsibility to the TZ100?
Â
I'd still want the E4200 to have a SID key for LAN access security.

I have a 6 month old Cisco e-4200 router that is updated to the latest firmware, connected to a Motorola surfboard modem on Sudden-link in Midland, TX.
Â
I previously used this exact same setup on Cox Cable in Wichita, KS with no problems. Upon setting it up down here I cannot get the router to pickup an IP address. I have Power-cycled everything multiple times, did a complete reset and re-installation of the router software and still no luck. The Sudden-link techs have no idea what is wrong. They said that the modems signal is strong and everything should be working.
Â
Actually I did get it to work once for a couple of days, however when redoing the surround sound system I had to unhook the cable line and it quit working and I haven't gotten it to work again since. I have tried unhooking everything. Turning it all off. Waiting for 5+minutes, and then reconnecting in order: First the modem, then an ethernet cable to the computer which will usually work. But as soon as I unplug the cable from the computer and plug it into the router it stops working.
