What the heck is key renewal? And why does it change every 3600 seconds? Does that mean my password will change? If so how do I connect additional devices to my Wi-Fi after the 3600 seconds?

I have been using the E4200 for a few months now...and running access restrictions to cut down my kids internet hours.
Everything was working fine until today. I changed my Access Restriction password....and then discovered that I cannot 'Add' another device. The button is completely grayed out. I have other computers running on the network that are not in the Access Restriction list...so I should be able to click on 'Add' and select a device....
I can continue to edit the Access Restriction permissions for those devicescurrently in the list...but just cant Add any other device...
To preface this message I need to state that I am functionally illiterate when it comes to any kind of networking. I just replaced an old Linksys wireless-G router with a new Linksys EA6500 router. My needs are as follows: I am connecting 4 desktop computers (two personal and two business) via Ethernet cables. In addition there will be three smart phones, two DVD players and one game console connected wirelessly. In the future I will add a printer, hard drive and more wireless devices. After installing the hardware and running the setup disk all four computers wired with Ethernet cables worked fine (although they are not set up to communicate or share files with one another - they only need to access the internet. My problem is with the wireless connectivity. I cannot get any one of the wireless devices to work.

Is this a setting where the cable connected pc gets preference that I could switch off?
I just installed an older router (WRT120N). Purchased an adapter for desktop and wireless connection for destktop works. Cannot get other devices to use the wifi (iphone, ipod, android phone...). I am at a loss. Saw some suggestions about disabling a Upn or something under the router's LAN properties
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy new EA4500 works fine all day, both wireless and wifi, on both bands, but nearly every evening, the wifi signal disappears, as shown on a wifi app for my smart phone, but not on Issid on my laptop, strangely, and my PC laptop and iPad both disconnect, then reconnect. Smart phone disconnects too. It isn't like the signal drops in strength, it just goes away! I have tried various settings on modes, and bandwidths, I am using different SSID's on each band, WPA2 security with a long non-dictionary passphrase and MAC filtering. The hardwire connection works great at 30+ Mbps even when the wifi is disappearing from the wifi scanner and the wifi connections are dropping. In other words, the cable connection/modem is working fine, but the wifi radio signal stops or the SSID drops off the signal. I really can't tell, but I know it is becoming very frustrating. The old WRT54GS works fine if I put it back on-line in the evening when these things start to happen.
I have turned off everything I can think of in the house that transmits or might transmit, in case it is an interference thing. I have tried disabling the 5 GHz side, since I can't see what is happening on that band, and the last thing I tried was changing the MTU from 1500 to 1400. So far, the past evening, it was okay, but I am not confident it will stay that way.
I have AT&T Uverse which provides Internet for my home. The wireless capability of this router is pretty bad, I don't get good/reliable wireless reception upstairs in my office. The solution was to buy a Cisco E2500 and add it as an access point upstairs.
I have the E2500 LAN port connected to the LAN port of my uverse router downstairs. DHCP is turned off on the E2500. I have my office PC wired into the E2500. The home PC works fine, its getting DHCP from the uverse router downstairs and connects and good speeds. The problem comes with my wireless devices trying to connect to the E2500.
I should mention that yesterday when i bought this, all worked fine. This morning when I came into my office none of the wireless devices would connect to the E2500 at all. But as soon as I remove the cable that connects the E2500 to the uverse router downstairs they will connect via wireless but of course not get an IP address since that is disabled.
I have factory reset the E2500 and uverse router several times and am getting no where. what could be causing the wireless devices to not connect at all?
I've done a firmware upgrade to latest version v4.21.5 yet my Wifi still isn't broadcasting for my devices to find and connect as of last night (Aug 5, 2012). This hasn't happened before, so I was hoping it would return but still hasn't started working yet.My iphone just says "unable to connect."
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a Linksys EA4500 (firmware is up to date). However while it set itself up wonderfully. I cannot get my wireless devices (specifically my apple tv) to see my NAS or my itunes PC, My ipads can access the NAS if i put in the correct address but not automatically.
Everything is connected to my cisco switch that is hardwired (2 xboxes, 2 ps3, 3 tv's, Wii, network audio receiver, 2 NAS, printer, 2 computers, etc). I disabled the Wi-Fi on the bell router. On the wifi are a few ipads, 3 blackberries, 1 iphone, 2 laptops).I am fully aware that the reason the wireless devices cannot see the hardwired equipment is because it is on a different subnet.
However when i try and change the IP address of the router to 192.168.2.2 (putting it on the same subnet) the router must detect a conflict then changes itself to a class A address (10.x.x.x) OR i get an INVALID IP address. As well i have noticed an overall degradation in the speed of my network (all gigabit hardware with cat 6 cabling)
My E3000 has been working fine with 1.0.04 build 6 FW. Recently some devices (kindle, iPad) can't connect to internet while connected to E3000 via WiFi network. Had a look my E3000 router IP is 192.168.0.1 but those problematic devices has IP 192.168.1.XXX allocated by DHCP not sure why. Currently I manually set up static IP 192.168.0.XXX for those devices.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the E1200 and since I installed this router, the wireless download speed on my iPad and iPhone has been only around 4 to 5 Mbps when my other wireless devices could get to 7 Mbps and ethernet gives close to 10 (my ISP gives 10 Mbps max).I know many people experience slow download and normally disabling the WMM would solve the issue. But this doesn't work for me and I've made sure i'm on the latest firmware.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that my E4200v2 Smart-Wifi cloud doesn't show all the devices that are connected to my router.To test, last night we turned on EVERYTHING....4 iPod Touches, 2 Xbox's, 1 Blu-ray player connected to Netflix, 1 Directly receiver, 4 laptops,1 desktop,1 iPhone, and made sure all of them were connected to the Wi-fi and actually streaming / downloading/playing something the Smart WiFi only recognized about half of them as being connected. I rebooted the router and it picked up a few more but never accounted for all the devices connected.
If you can't account for all the devices connected to your network, setting-up up reliable Parental Controls is almost impossible.Very disappointed and about ready to start looking for another brand of router. Sad, as I've been with Cisco/Linksys for over a decade and been very satisfied in the past.
All my wireless devices are 802.11n and none of them can pick up the 5 GHz band on my E4200 router. I've tried all the different settings and channels on this band and still nothing. The only device i have been able to pick up the 5 GHz band with is a Desktop PC with a linksys AE1000 USB network adapter. This is quite frustrating because I would like to put my blu-ray player and game systems on the 5 GHz band. Laptop, PS3, XBOX 360, iPOD, and blue-ray player all can't pick up the 5 GHz band. Either my unit is defective (which I don't think is the case or not even the USB adapter would be picking up the network) or there is something I am missing (which I have tried pretty much everything as far as I know with the settings, have two separate names for the band networks and have tried each individual channel under 5 GHz). Also running current firmware version.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have two WRT54GS routers. I want to extend my WiFi from the router connected to my upstream in the office to a second router in the living room. I want devices configured for the SSID and passphrase of my current WiFi (which is find in the office) to work seamlessly in the living room. I understand I can do this by running a cable and configuring router 2 as a client of router 1 with router 2 exposing the same SSID and passthrase on a different channel.
But I really don't want to run a cable.There is a point where a client can see router 1 where an AP would cover the living room.
Can I put router 2 at that point, have it connect wirelessly as a client to router 1, and have it expose as an AP using the same SSID and passphrase? Can this be done without wiring the router?
I am looking for a reference document for the type of devices that are supported under 5Ghz. We are using a 5500 WLC and 3600 WAPs. Lot of users cannot connect to network via mobile devices. Is there a reference doc from cisco which i can use to inform them?

Now, I run an Ethernet cord from the router to my computer: the computer works just fine. As of a day ago, though, none of the home's Apple devices will connect to the network, despite reboots, password retypes, and shouting at them. Each device (two phones and an ipad) can identify my network, but they cannot join. Additionally, there is an old laptop that cannot connect anymore.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAs my original Innbox V50U modem/router does not have a strong enough wifi signal I had to add in an additional wifi router - I used a Cisco Linksys E4200.The problem is that if I connect my laptop to the cisco router I can see the Innbox router but not vice versa. There is an additional problem as I have a wireless printer that is connected to the Cisco router. If I connect to the Innbox router I cannot use this printer as I cannot see its IP address.I read somewhere it might be down to the subnet mask. both are set to 255.255.255.0Apologies if this is n00b stuff but I have not had this problem before, I just naturally though the two networks would be able to talk to each-other.

View 3 Replies View RelatedJust installed a Linksys N750 (EA3500) router (WAN - LAN setup). I settled both band networks : 2.4 Ghz and 5Ghz with different SSID and different WAP2/WAP personal mixt. WHile some devices will show both networks correctly, I'm facing issues with the 5Ghz band and wonder if this is sigh of some kind of failure:
- while my iPad offered both signals and let me set the 5 Ghz band, it is showing weak signal and stall on loading webpages; as soon as I instead put it on the 2.4Ghz band, (standing at same location of course), everything runs smoothly, excellent signal.
- I have a Mac Mini and PS3 side by side same location. The Mac Mini seems to works flawlessly under both bands, 2.4 or 5 - excellent signal. However, the PS3 fails its connexion test and states that signal is not perceptible on the 5Ghz. But connect as a snap on the 2.4 Ghz band.
- Got on and off 5Ghz signal on a laptop; connected to 2.4Ghz, everything runs perfect.
- iPhones 4S : I don't even see the 5Ghz SSID, but I get both the 2.4 and Guess account..So I'm tempted to conclude that some devices just can't follow the pace (??) to connect on 5Ghz..
I've been using a WRT160N for a couple of years now with no problems with any of my devices. I have a couple of certain devices (a DS and a PSP mainly) that utilize 802.11b and have been working perfectly up until now.
All of a sudden it seems like the router has decided all by itself to no longer allow 802.11b devices to connect to it, despite it being configured in mixed mode. (b/g/N) I've tried tinkering around with it, switching between Mixed and BG-Mixed, changing the channel to something more common and restarting the router, but I can't connect at all on these devices.Model: Cisco Linksys WRT160N v3.Firmware version: 3.0.03.
I just installed a WRT320N for someone's home network, with the intent of providing better speed for network printing.
Unfortunately, all four of his n-capable Windows computers will only connect at 54mbps. Four different computers (Win7, Vista, XP), each with a different brand/model of n-capable network adapter.
I suppose I could try setting the wireless to n-only instead of "mixed". However, he's got a couple g-only devices as well, so that wouldn't work.
I tried updating the firmware to latest/greatest - no effect.
I was requested to connect 2 WRT54G devices in our network with same ip range.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought the E3200 to replace an older Linksys model. The older model worked but the signal was weak throughout the house. I installed the e3200 using the Cisco connect software but it told me that it wasn't sure I was connected to the internet. I wasn't. Showed a strong signal but could not connect via wireless devices or from the cable from the router to the desktop.
I have LUS Fiber service which does not use a modem. I have had them recycle the signal several times and have done tried many different variations of the MAC numbers from ipconfig or from cloning. Have also tried it with the MAC cloning disabled so the router's MAC number is used. I have reset, rebooted and done just about every possible option.
Spoke with my provider many times and they insist they are sending me a signal. They also recognized the router's MAC number on their end.I purchased one router and it wouldn't connect, so I exchanged it. All these shenanigans I have gone through are with the second router because I figured the hardware isn't the problem.
I have a WRT610N which does not allow me to connect any new devices to the wireless network. This is a recent problem as I have been able to connect new devices before. Devices on the wireless network, those that have been on the network, are able to disconnect and reconnect. Just new devices are excluded. Have gone through the admin screens to see if something is amiss but can not find anything.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a WRT54g with Tomato firmware. I am trying to set up a WAP54g to extend the range but while that access point does show up as a network, nothing can connect to it. I already have the router's MAC address put in the WAP. I think the problem is that I have Tomato on the router and that conflicts with the default firmware on the WAP. Range isn't really the problem, I just need to strengthen the signal in a specific area that it's not getting to because of walls. I can't even switch to previous versions of Tomato anymore. I may have just bricked it.Some facts about my setup-My modem has default settings: PPPoE connection with a DHCP server enabled.-I set the router to use DHCP and put it in "Access Point" mode.
-The WAP is set to repeater mode and it was set to Static IP configuration by default. I simply followed the instructsions here: url....
-There are three different MAC addresses: The WAN, LAN/router, and the Wireless. I put the Wireless MAC address in the access point. Is that correct?
-My desktop is wired directly to the router and it has a static IP outside the router DHCP's IP range-UPnP is enabled by default in the modem and router, but I'd like to try to get this working rather than buy all new equipment.
I have a WRT610 and am unable to connect any devices wirelessly. All the lights on the right hand side of the router are on except for the USB connection....what am I doing wrong? The router has worked for about a year flawlessly and last night all wireless connections quit.
