So finally that my e4200 is capable of disabling wps i run in to another question.
how to close ports 139 445 ? these are open by default and i didnt figure out how to close them, in browser setup..
and YES port 139 IS a security issue. people denying this, are the same, that denied any vulnearibilties to wps.
I have noticed that in my router log that the router opes a port automatically without any human interaction and after some the time router closes the port again.Here is the log file of my router that opens the port and close it after a couple of hours.

I just started using NMAP and found that port 139 is open on my router. Browsing through the router's settings I don't see any option for closing ports or disabling NetBios.... how should I go about securing this port?

I use modem and router to connect to the internet.When I connect my PC directly to modem port forwarding is working.When I connect my PC through my router the port is closed. I followed instruction for port forwarding.

I have an E4200 and a WD MyBook Essential 2TB. They were working very well for the longest time, detecting a speed of USB 2.0. I had to get a new desk, thus had to disconnect all my devices, including the router. After plugging everything back in, the router only detects USB 1.1, even though the device is clearly USB 2.0.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm a happy user of the E4200 for a few weeks now, and all in all it's a very robust and useful router.Within my network I have a webserver running using both HTTP (TCP 80) and HTTPS (TCP 443). I want to make this webserver available to the internet and so I configure port forwarding to forward port TCP 80 and TCP 443 to my internal webserver. As soon as I now apply these settings, I loose connection to the webinterface of the E4200 and get connected to my internal webserver. I would expect the router would only forward connections coming in through the external interface of the router, however this is apparently not the case (or at least not in my setup). So I tried setting up remote management on a different port to at least allow me to remotely manage the router, but this does not work from my internal network.
Right now, I'm assuming I'm doing something wrong, or have miss-configured something. Is it possible to switch the webadmin port to a different port (like 8080 and 8443)?
After updated firmware to 1.0.03 still can't log in to ftp on port other than 21 ( eg. 2121 ). Will it be fixed ever ? I told with guys on live chat but connection broked twice.

Every client on the LAN (wired and wireless) can connect to those ports on the router. I do not want that to happen. It is unncessary and it is just not secure. I only want the router to have port 443 open on the LAN for the web mgmt interface. I do not want any other unncessary port open.
I set up my new E4200 to forward port 7300 to a computer on my LAN. I had this working on my Linksys WRT160N and copied all of the settings so they are identical to those on that router but forwarding does not work. I have tried single port forwarding, multiple port forwarding and even DMZ with the same lack of results.

Also tried to place the NAS in DMZ, but also I cannot connect it from outside my network. Inside my network, there is no problem.I also connected the NAS directly to the internet, and then I can access it from outside my network.I already tried a factory reset, disabled UPnP and IPv6, but nothing seems to work. I wish to open my NAT type as currently its moderate on all games.Where the hell is the area to add the port ranges?? Is it even an option on the new connect cloud? A while back, I had my own minecraft server running. I had everything working and it was flawless. Then for some reason it just stopped working. I was Unable to open ANY PORTS. I did happen to try 65 - 110 and 254 - 210, as well as 12, 212 and 122. I dopnt know what happened but i have been searching everywhere on the internet (roughly 3 months)

Mask is 255.255.255.0.Added four port forwarding rules per directions on xbox site and also portforwarding.com for ports 53, 80, 88, 1074 to the static IP Turned off DMZ, Turned off UPnP, Turned off SPI. Already tried: soft reset (power off for 30 seconds), soft reboot via back panel button, hard reset (press reset for 30, unplug and hold reset for 30, plug in while holding reset for 30).

He has a HP running Vista, a netgear grt614 vs10 router, and a static IP address through Verizon. My problem is this. I set up port forwarding for port 80. All seems to work well sometimes and I can connect to his DVR no problem. Then other times I can't connect at all. I'll run a port checker and it will tell me port 80 is closed. Is it possible that Verizon will off and on block inbound port 80? I seem to only be able to connect during buisness hours. Is it possible that his PC needs to be on for the port to be open. The DVR is the server which is always on and the router is always on. I don't know why the computer would have to be on.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have always used netgear routers in the past. After a series of issues regarding configurations not working correctly I invested in what appeared to be a semi pro router, the cisco linksys e4200.
I have a centralized server which I use to access a mass of different services such as mail, dns, VPN, FTP, Kerberos, http and many more. While I am not a massive networking ****, this server setup is like my garage project. To access these services externally to my LAN as far as I understand I would need to configure port forwarding for each service to my server. Unfortunately the control panel for the linksys E4200 only offers about 15 custom port fields for forwarding, and some documentation I have read shows that with it's basic install my server could be using up to 60 ports at once.
Is this router just not suitable for this sort of network. If so I will be very disappointed because I have spent a quarter of the price on netgear routers with more control than this.
About a week ago my laptop started acting strange. I noticed when I brought my computer to my room (which is where i usually use my computer) it said that there were connections available where the signal bar is. Which is odd because it usually just auto connects. So i clicked on the signal bar and connected to my internet, but it lost the connection shortly after so I clicked connect again and it said windows was unable to connect to the router. Then shortly after that it said no connections were available. So i brought the computer to the computer to the family room ,where the router is, to check the router. It was nothing wrong with the router so I looked back at the computer and it was automatically connected to the internet with a five bar connection, but when i left the family room with the computer it immediately lost the signal. So i decided i should just stay in the family room. The next day the same problem occured and i went back to the family room to use the computer but i noticed the connection wasnt usually at five bars like it usually is wen im that close to the router but it was 4 bars or 3.
The next day i went over my fathers house for the weekend, and when im over there i pretty much always have a five bar connection even though im not in the same room as the router because im 1 floor directly above the router. Now when i used the computer over my dads house it had a 3 bar connection, disconnected from the internet at times, and when i try to connect bak it said that windows could not connect to router like it had said in my room bak at my own house, even though it always used to have a very high connection before this problem happened. So wen i got bak to my house i went to the family room to connect to the internet and now im having the same problems i had over my dads house. Now i try deleting some programs to see if they affected the internet and have even turned off some start off services on using mpconfig but that didnt work either
I am having a problem with my router disconnecting every time that I close a browser window. I am pretty sure that it is a problem with either my Desktop or my WiFi usb card that is connected to my Desktop. I have tested this on my laptop and it doesn't seem to have the same issue. Has any heard of this or does any have a solution to how I can get this working correctly?
