I just started using NMAP and found that port 139 is open on my router. Browsing through the router's settings I don't see any option for closing ports or disabling NetBios.... how should I go about securing this port?
So finally that my e4200 is capable of disabling wps i run in to another question. how to close ports 139 445 ? these are open by default and i didnt figure out how to close them, in browser setup..
and YES port 139 IS a security issue. people denying this, are the same, that denied any vulnearibilties to wps.
I have noticed that in my router log that the router opes a port automatically without any human interaction and after some the time router closes the port again. Here is the log file of my router that opens the port and close it after a couple of hours.

I've been trying to set up a customers security camera's for remote viewing. He has a HP running Vista, a netgear grt614 vs10 router, and a static IP address through Verizon. My problem is this. I set up port forwarding for port 80. All seems to work well sometimes and I can connect to his DVR no problem. Then other times I can't connect at all. I'll run a port checker and it will tell me port 80 is closed. Is it possible that Verizon will off and on block inbound port 80? I seem to only be able to connect during buisness hours. Is it possible that his PC needs to be on for the port to be open. The DVR is the server which is always on and the router is always on. I don't know why the computer would have to be on.
I just bought a Cisco Linksys E900 wireless router. Can someone explain to me why the router (192.168.1.1 on my case) has ports 1990/tcp and 5916/tcp open on the LAN?? I cannot find a way to close those ports.
[code]...
Every client on the LAN (wired and wireless) can connect to those ports on the router. I do not want that to happen. It is unncessary and it is just not secure. I only want the router to have port 443 open on the LAN for the web mgmt interface. I do not want any other unncessary port open.
About a week ago my laptop started acting strange. I noticed when I brought my computer to my room (which is where i usually use my computer) it said that there were connections available where the signal bar is. Which is odd because it usually just auto connects. So i clicked on the signal bar and connected to my internet, but it lost the connection shortly after so I clicked connect again and it said windows was unable to connect to the router. Then shortly after that it said no connections were available. So i brought the computer to the computer to the family room ,where the router is, to check the router. It was nothing wrong with the router so I looked back at the computer and it was automatically connected to the internet with a five bar connection, but when i left the family room with the computer it immediately lost the signal. So i decided i should just stay in the family room. The next day the same problem occured and i went back to the family room to use the computer but i noticed the connection wasnt usually at five bars like it usually is wen im that close to the router but it was 4 bars or 3.
The next day i went over my fathers house for the weekend, and when im over there i pretty much always have a five bar connection even though im not in the same room as the router because im 1 floor directly above the router. Now when i used the computer over my dads house it had a 3 bar connection, disconnected from the internet at times, and when i try to connect bak it said that windows could not connect to router like it had said in my room bak at my own house, even though it always used to have a very high connection before this problem happened. So wen i got bak to my house i went to the family room to connect to the internet and now im having the same problems i had over my dads house. Now i try deleting some programs to see if they affected the internet and have even turned off some start off services on using mpconfig but that didnt work either
I am having a problem with my router disconnecting every time that I close a browser window. I am pretty sure that it is a problem with either my Desktop or my WiFi usb card that is connected to my Desktop. I have tested this on my laptop and it doesn't seem to have the same issue. Has any heard of this or does any have a solution to how I can get this working correctly?
I have a dlink wbr 2310 router and i keep on getting hit offline on my xbox 360 because my parents set my router on open connection so anyone close enough to pick it up can use it and I'm trying to close the connection so they would have to know my password to use it?
I have a WAP4410N which I have had for awhile and the performance was flawless at what appeaared to be 300 Mbps. I udated the firmware recently to 2.0.4.2. This is when the problems started. Within 15 feet of the acccess point it would drop the connection and speeds were under 65 Mbps. I factory defaulted the unit and reinstalled the firmware with no changes. I run several other access points of differnt manufacturers and I get fantastic performance on draft N and G. I did check all the laptops for network adapter incosistansies. Have I made a configuation mistake? I only changed the IP address to bring it into the range of other devices. I use a sa520 router and a Trendnet Gigabit switch and a server with MS SBS 2008 which works well with all but the WAP4410N.
I opened a computer in other network via remote desktop(because I forwarded port in router)....and tried to access other computers in the network via remote desktop again from that computer but after I done, I don't know how to close the secondary remote desktop. There was one close button on the top, but if "close" it, whole rdp connection was closed. The secondary rdp connection is still open in the computer.
I boot up my computer. I close it over. come back later. open it. Computer will connect but with the small yellow triangle. Thing is though, it's only my computer that ever has issues with my internet connection. My sisters laptop has never had an issue with out internet. Yet my laptop is able to connect to the neighbors internet fine. The solution to my problem almost all of the time is to simply reboot my computer, which solves the problem(most of the time). But i'm getting so sick of having to do it. The other times when a reboot doesn't work I have to manually reset the internet. As i'm typing this I'm on my neighbors internet. my sister is connected fine to our internet but my laptop simply won't work with it so i'll have to reset it when i'm finished this Some useful information might be that this problem only started happening ever since my computer got wiped.I've tried updating the drivers but apparently they're up to date.
When restarting my PC after a short power failure the D-Link connection wizard autostarts trying to connect to my wlan. After a short while I have a connection and is able to access the internet. The connection wizard, however does not register that a connection has been established and continues to attempt to connect for two minutes, then shuts down and immediately starts for another two-minute try....and so on. If I shut it down it just pops up again. This has never occured before. I run Windows 7 on an HP with an AMD processor.
I'm using Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client v2.4.1012 running on Windows 7/64 to connect to a client's network environment. Is there any method to the way that the client forces my Firefox and IE browser windows to close?
Obviously you do not want your cat6 lines running too close to your power lines especially when in parallel. The question though is how close can it be without causing interference? In my situation the wall I want to connect my main router to has a power outlet in the middle of it which honestly is where I would have preferred my network ports. Will I be OK if I run my cat6 in the wall channel directly next to the channel that contains the power line? It would be a standard U.S. interior wall residential power line. I should be able to get from 12 to 24 inches of distance between my cat6 and power line while still keeping my network outlet in a semi-central location.
I have an application, a solar power plant, where communication cables (Cat.6 UTP) are run close to power cables. We've had a lot of failures in the past due to multiple reasons, electrical noise, surge, etc so we decided to change to Cat.6 SFTP. The problem is that now , even with proper termination of the shielding at either one or both ends, the noise is so bad that packet loss is above 90%.
Recently had an external security scan done on my DIR 655 and scan results are stating I have an accessible TFTP Server running. i've been through all the settings, and even upgraded to the latest firmware. Yet security scans are telling me I've got a TFTP Server running. Why would one be showing on the external interface, and how can I stop it?
A company with 20 branches in Rio de Janeiro area. The main servers are in a datacenter located in downtown. Each branch has a RV042 router with firmware version 1.3.12.19-tm (Feb 13 2009 13:03:21) installed. All users in this network have a proxy configuration pointing to proxy.[blah].com.br port 3128.the HTTP/HTTPS traffic should go through proxy only. [code] Some "smart" users were caught using Ultrasurf application, which changes the proxy settings to go through port 9666 or even 443.In other machines, we've found some black proxies [for example: 212.46.27.142 port 8080].
My objective:
- To close all ports in Firewall -> Access Rules section and grant permission only to some selected and specified ports.
- To redirect all HTTP/HTTPS connections to go to proxy's IP address only.
Which Access Rules can I set in these RV042s in order to block and prevent these users to continue abusing this network? The users who were caught using Ultrasurf were fired.
There is no "blinking light" indication on my E3000 at the Internet (Yellow label) and Ethernet port no 4. I tried plugging in 2 cables at all of the ports. I got the blinking indication at Port 1 through 3. The same cable's have no response at Port 4 and Internet port. As a result my I am not able to connect to the internet.
I want to use Qos in EA2700. I want to know whether the port in the Qos means the port of local computer or the port of server. Or is it a source port or a destination port?
I've been using a WRT120N on a local area connection. The WRT120N acts as a gateway and also to connect to the PPOE connection, via a bridged adsl modem.I've noticed that the LAN port 1 was flashing although the network cable was disconnected from the physical port. I've restarted a few times but to no avail as well. Ever since that, I've noticed that connection through cable are unstable and hard. Now, I'm not able to reset or upgrade the router's firmware. Is there any other way to be done so that I can get this router working as normal again.
On the supervisor card of a cisco 6500 series, according to the following link, [URL] it only has 2 uplink ports on the card. Would I be correct in assuming that I only have those to ports that I can configure IP addresses on?
The cisco that is being devlivere is coming with a 48 port switch and 24 port fibre switch. Could I change any of those ports into a router port and configure IP addresses on those?
The supervisor card is a ws-sup-720-3b the 48 port switch is a ws-x6748-ge-tx the 24 port fibre switch is ws-x6724-sfp
I'm fairly new to Cisco products am in the process of developing my network knowledge on a deeper level. I have a 3825 with a HWIC-4ESW and I'm struggling to fully understand how the two "see" each other. I've setup a V LAN with a layer 3 address on the HWIC and added the switch ports to it. This seemed to allow devices connected to the switch ports to talk to the built-in router ports. I thought this was all making sense until i applied an access-list to the router port. It's a simple ACL i'm just using for testing and the only thing it does is blocks telnet from anywhere. I know the ACL is setup properly because if I connect a device directly to the router port i cannot telnet to the port. However, if i connect a device to one of the switch ports, i am able to telnet to the router port successfully.
It seems that I'm missing something with how traffic flows from the switch port to the router ports and how the two "see" each other.
I was looking for a way to connect an AUX port from a 1700 router to a 6500 switch module console port, to see the output of the Switch's on the 1700 router, in case there is a network downtime, I could see what's going on in the switch, what cable should I use ? Also, is there is any kind of documentation for this type of config what have I seen is very few info.
Is it possible to create a service which will forward public port 9010 to an internal IP address with port 23?First of all, I do not like to open the public Telnet port to the inside so I would use another public port and second my ISP does not allow some public ports beneath port 80?
I have recently purchased a WD My Book Live and connected to my E4200 Router. I am trying to access this device using FTP from outside my local network. I did all required setting but with no success. I am able to connect to this using FTP from within my Local network. I used nmap to find scan the ports and it says port 21 filtered.

How to Forward an external wan port like 49150 to lan ip on port 22?In the control pannel I can set only one port , and this port will be the same where the connection will be router to the lan ip ,therefore If I set the port 22 , the connection will be natted to the 22, but how to set a different external port to a specified different lan ip port?

Is there any way of forwarding an external port to a different internal port on the TD-8970 ?I saw a question posed on an Australian forum implying that it might be provided in a later firmware release. Our TD- 8970 has replaced a previous NetGear WAG 320N which had this facility, and is useful to provide access to multiple machines without having to modify each individually to use a different port.
I've got to upgrade an older 8 port router to add wireless. I figured there'd be an 8 port router with wireless at Best Buy, but all were 4 port routers. Any 8 port router with wireless I can plug in out of the box? Without having to buy a switch?
I have a camera connected to the router. IP address 192.168.1.145(static). It responds on port 7654. The camera connected either wired(if connected) or wireless otherwise using the same IP and port. the camera responds correctly on both wired and wireless from a LAN connected computer. If I try to connected via the Internet, camera will only respond if connected via a wire; i.e. the port forwarding is not forwarding internet requests on port 7654 to a wirless IP address, but will to a wired IP address. It has worked in the past, so the router seems to be capable of routing requests to the wireless LAN. Either I have changed some setting (unlikely as have reloaded saved configuration) or it is a hardware error in the router. Have had previous problems with the router which neccessitated a full reboot/reset to clear. Guessing there was some problem making the router run out of memory. Response to the configuration setup pages can be slow, and some (DHCP list and access policy) on occasions are just not responded to(AP) or not complete(DHCP - page opened but no data shown)
