I have a dlink wbr 2310 router and i keep on getting hit offline on my xbox 360 because my parents set my router on open connection so anyone close enough to pick it up can use it and I'm trying to close the connection so they would have to know my password to use it?

I want to use a D-link WB-2310 wireless router to receive a wireless signal. Downstairs, connected to a cable modem (11MBPS), is an intel iMac running 10.4 that can send out its own wifi signal (internet sharing). Upstairs will be a PowerPC G5 Mac running 10.5 that has no wireless card...I was hoping I could use the router in place of a wireless adapter.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe setup a home network in our new house but we have a problem with limited connectivity in specific configuration.
There is few situations to describe the problem :
1. If I connect my computer directly to the modem I can access to the internet. (modem --> computer = internet OK)
2. If i connect the ethernet cable (in the wall) between my modem and RJ45 jack in the living room and connect my computer directly to the RJ45 I can access to the internet. (modem --> cat6 cable in the wall --> computer = internet ok)
3. If I connect my router directly (without the cat6 cable in the wall) to the modem and my computer to the the router I can access to the internet. (modem --> router --> computer = internet ok)
4. If i connect the ethernet cable (in the wall) between my modem and RJ45 jack in the living room and connect to router to the RJ45 and my computer to the router I CANNOT access to the internet. (modem --> cat6 cable in the wall --> router --> computer = internet access problem)
5. If i connect the ethernet cable (in the wall) between my modem and RJ45 jack in the living room and connect to a swith to the RJ45 and my computer to the switch I can access to the internet. (modem --> cat6 cable in the wall --> switch --> computer = internet OK)
With those tests I am not able to figured out what is the problem... router is working in situation #3. cable in the wall is ok in situations #2 and 5. How to make my router working when connected to the RJ45 jack in the living room.
There is my component :
Router --> D-Link WBR-2310
Switch --> Trendnet TE100-S5
Modem --> Thomson DCM475
Cable in the wall --> Homemade with 568A standard in both end.
I was assisting a friend by trying to set up a wireless password on their network, I have no clue why they didn't have one, and when it did the normal resetting machine protocol after the password setup we lost all internet, we can connect to the wireless network fine but it has no internet. The modem has internet connection as when I link via ethernet I can connect to the internet. DHCP is not enabled on the router, I'm not sure if I have to set that setting on the modem? or frankly how to do that either.

I already set-up my router and modem. Most of my wireless devices can connect. My problem is it is not secured. When I tried to add WEP or WPA, D-Link restarts but then it cannot connect to my DSL. it says DHCP disconnected and when i try to renew, nothing happened. It just kept on reconnecting. My Desktop has no internet connection.

My personal Internet connection is out due to the fact our bill trippled for some reason we can't figure out 2 months ago without telling us. We've had an auto payment sent every month for just over what it should be. So until I get this sorted out with the ISP I have to use the community WiFi. I would like to be able to use the internet from somewhere other than the wall in my kitchen.
So, I have a number of Routers, 2 Actiontec Q1000s, but only 1 power suply, a D-Link WBR-2310, D-Link DIR-601 & a few other ods & Ends including a 12DB Amped Wireless & An 8DB Hawking Tech antennas.What I want to do is to use 1 router to connect to the CommunityShared Network, A wired connection to another router (Preferably the Q1000 as it's already setup for my Home Network) & that router to serve my Home Network, preferably over the WAN port if possible, but I can run VPNs on each device for a week if I have to.
Right now I have one computer setup in the kitchen with a High Gain Antenna conected to a Atheros SUB-362 EXT USB WiFi card, (This computer gets 7Mbps Down & 9Mbps Up) then the built-in WiFi card connected to my Home network with a Static IP, The Q1000 set to use that IP as the Gateway. I can get about 200Kbps max on devices connected to the Home Network. But the biggest problem is that my old Atheros card disconnects randomly when accessed from one of the devices on the home network. I'm fine with a ThirdParty Firmware Update on the D-Links if necessary.When I look online I only find posts about how to extend a network using a second router or how to use a specific router to repeat or bridge.
My data usage via my ATT dsl link has gone over the limit for the past 2 months.
Perhaps a neighbor is using my connection?

I am trying to setup ATT DSL modem through D-Link router Dir-615. I was instructed to use PPPoE and setup username and password in router. When I do, the router does not save my network password, but reverts back to some hidden password. I have tried changing it in Tools, but it keeps reverting. I'm sure this is why I cannot access the internet.

I have an extra router that might be able to serve as an wireless access point, but from what I've been told that wouldn't solve anything if the problem was that the first router doesn't have the capacity for that much traffic. View 1 Replies View RelatedAbout a week ago my laptop started acting strange. I noticed when I brought my computer to my room (which is where i usually use my computer) it said that there were connections available where the signal bar is. Which is odd because it usually just auto connects. So i clicked on the signal bar and connected to my internet, but it lost the connection shortly after so I clicked connect again and it said windows was unable to connect to the router. Then shortly after that it said no connections were available. So i brought the computer to the computer to the family room ,where the router is, to check the router. It was nothing wrong with the router so I looked back at the computer and it was automatically connected to the internet with a five bar connection, but when i left the family room with the computer it immediately lost the signal. So i decided i should just stay in the family room. The next day the same problem occured and i went back to the family room to use the computer but i noticed the connection wasnt usually at five bars like it usually is wen im that close to the router but it was 4 bars or 3.
The next day i went over my fathers house for the weekend, and when im over there i pretty much always have a five bar connection even though im not in the same room as the router because im 1 floor directly above the router. Now when i used the computer over my dads house it had a 3 bar connection, disconnected from the internet at times, and when i try to connect bak it said that windows could not connect to router like it had said in my room bak at my own house, even though it always used to have a very high connection before this problem happened. So wen i got bak to my house i went to the family room to connect to the internet and now im having the same problems i had over my dads house. Now i try deleting some programs to see if they affected the internet and have even turned off some start off services on using mpconfig but that didnt work either
I am having a problem with my router disconnecting every time that I close a browser window. I am pretty sure that it is a problem with either my Desktop or my WiFi usb card that is connected to my Desktop. I have tested this on my laptop and it doesn't seem to have the same issue. Has any heard of this or does any have a solution to how I can get this working correctly?

I just bought a Cisco Linksys E900 wireless router. Can someone explain to me why the router (192.168.1.1 on my case) has ports 1990/tcp and 5916/tcp open on the LAN?? I cannot find a way to close those ports.

Every client on the LAN (wired and wireless) can connect to those ports on the router. I do not want that to happen. It is unncessary and it is just not secure. I only want the router to have port 443 open on the LAN for the web mgmt interface. I do not want any other unncessary port open.

I have a D-Link WBR-2310. It was working just fine until couple days ago. The problem lies with *No Internet Access* that using both wired and wireless. I havereset, shut it down for awhile. Reset the whole device still nothing. I do not have any clue what has happened. I have come up with disabling IPV4 or something? No idea how to do that and if thats right how do I go on to do it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an Internet Connectivity problem which I believe was caused by resetting our D-Link WBR-2310 router. We have a strange, perhaps illogical network setup in our office. Although it was set up before my time, I have figured it works as follows:
(1) A wired/wireless router (let's call it Router A) is connected directly to the DSL modem.
(2) An Ethernet cord runs from this router to a 5 port switch.
(3) 4 cords run from the switch to individual workstations. These computers obtain their IP addresses automatically.
(4) 1 cord runs from the switch to another wired/wireless router (let's call it Router B).
(5) Two cords run from Router B to individual workstations (let's call them Workstations C). These computers used permanent IP, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server addresses. I understand that this was done because they could not obtain their IP addresses automatically.
The problem I've caused seems to stem from me resetting Router B to the factory settings while trying to secure its signal and changing its IP address from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 (in order to avoid conflict with the modem which has the same IP address). Once I did that, Workstations C could not access the Internet.
I have tinkered with the TCP/IP settings for Workstations C (e.g. by changing the default gateways to the Router B's new IP address), but it doesn't work. What else should I be doing?

Other problem is that when I want to go to my modem web panel by entering 192.168.1.1 in my browser, I see it tries to connect to other modems and if I enter default user/pass I can log into other peoples modem! Currently our laCie can only be seen on our desktop's if only one computer is connected (using either firewall and/or USB connectors).
Lastly, we also back up our files using dropbox, however when you drag and drop the files into dropbox from the desktop, the copying of the files uses the hard drive (HD) memory thereby reducing available HD space. Any way to upload folders (not individual files) onto dropbox without using any HD space?
