6 People In 1 House Wireless Router Not Handling Traffic Well
Nov 16, 2011
I'm living in a house with 6 people on 2 floors, and the router isn't handling all the traffic well. I have an extra router that might be able to serve as an wireless access point, but from what I've been told that wouldn't solve anything if the problem was that the first router doesn't have the capacity for that much traffic. It's a 50+ dollar wireless N router though and fairly new (forgot the model number)

where i am from, the houses are made of conrete. so obviously my wi-fi degrades. i currently have 1 basic wireless g linksys router set up, in my bedroom as thats where the primarry devices are. there is a portion of the house where the signal is non existant and i want to set up a 2nd wireless router for that area to have signal. its a fairly large house with 4 bedrooms.here is a breakdown of the device priority:
The main room (my room, east end of house)
Gaming PC (gaming, downloading, netflix streaming) non wireless
Wife's Laptop (occasional streaming, general internet surfing)
PS3 (gaming and netflix streaming)
Ipad (streaming)
[code]....
The general purpose of all this is just have wireless across the whole house for mobility, my room is the priority as far as bandwidth usage and coverage. Also i will be purchasing an N router for my room and moving the G router to my moms.

I have 2 story house and trying t extend wireless coverage in the house. I have have 2 routers. One is just wrt54g while the second dual mode EA-4500. Cable modem is located in the basement so i would like to have one of the routers connected to it and use another router as bridge. So which router would be best to use a bridge. If i use ea4500 as a bridge then i would lose dual band features of it.

I bought two E4200s with the intent of using the second as a wireless access point to maximize coverage throughout my house. I just learned the hard way that the E4200 doesn't support that feature, and will only act as an access point if physically connected to the primary router that is connected to the internet.
Before I spend even more money on equipment, I was wondering if any of the experts here can tell me whether I can use a Linksys Bridge, like the WET610N or WES610N, to operate the second router in bridge mode and turn it into a wireless access point?

My current modem, the Arris DG860, when in router mode, handles uTorrents set to 1500 max connections fine, same with my FIOS Actiontec router at my work. However, I just bought a DLink DIR655 router (which I thought I researched properly to be great with torrents) and it crashes even with max connections set to 300 in my client.
Tempted to return the thing and get a better router, any great wireless router that has awesome range and can handle lots of torrenting?

I've noticed, that ACS 5.1 is writing .gpg archives for backups. I'm about to upgrade an evaluation system and the Installation and Upgrade Guide tells me to do a full backup and restore in order to upgrade an eval to a production system. [URL] (second note in section "Evaluating ACS 5.1)
Question: can the production system sucessfully decrypt the backup? According to my personal gpg it is CAST5 encrypted with one passphrase. Is this passphrase constant for all ACS 5.x?

I know that it's possible on the CSS to handle multiple incoming HTTP requests that terminate on the same IP address and port and balance them to various servers based on the url. For instance, I can set up URL at the same 192.168.35.12 address in DNS, and set up two different content rules:
content cats
vip address 192.168.35.12
port 80
url "//www.cats.com/*"
add server cats1
add server cats2
active
content dogs
vip 192.168.35.12
port 80
url "//www.dogs.com/*"
add server dogs1
add server dogs2
active.
Easy and straightforward.
But what if I want to add SSL handling for URl. I'm not sure how to create the ssl-proxy-list where one content rule (ip address/port) combination needs to pass through the ssl module and get matched with the proper ssl certificate.
Can this be done? Can one associate multiple certs and keys with a single ssl-server entry and a single ssl accelerator service? Or do I have to create multiple ssl-proxy-lists for cats and dogs and build multiple ssl services each referring to a unique ssl-proxy-list, and then use the url parameter in the https content rule to determine which ssl service (and therefore which key/cert pair) gets the traffic?

We're testing the reference system shown in the figure below. System Description Four 2960 switches are used for transport;Equipment 1 and Equipment 2 exchange packets for synchronization; To reach synchronization Equipment 1 and 2 must exchange data with a very low jitter. 2960 Configuration details Four our test puprose, we're using 100Mbit/s ports (22 and 23) as trunk. In order to obtain minimum jitter We performed these configurations:We Enabled QoS;We Marked Synchronization packets with CoS 7 and DSCP 63;We marked other kind of traffic inserted in different ports) with CoS 0;We set "trust DSCP" on trunk ports; On the trunk ports we mapped traffic with CoS 7/DSCP 63 (and only this) on output queue 1;We enabled the expedite queue (priority-queue out). QuestionWith these settings we aim at forcing our synchronization packtes to precede other kind of traffic and go from Equipment 1 to Equipment 2 with minimum jitter.Unfortunately we experienced high jitter when both synchronization packets and other traffic are sent through the systems.

I have an SSL VPN set up on my ASA 5520 with a self signed cert. When I run the AnyConnect install on my desktop machine I have click through a few windows to accept the certificate. When I connect through the mobile client on Android, the connection goes right through without a prompt to import/choose/download a certificate. I'm able to connect but I'm wondering if the phone has actually recieved a certificate. I'm in the 'Advanced Connection Editor' screen and the certificate setting says "Automatic".

I currently have two laptops, a PS3, one desktop (technically two, but right now its not working, hoping to make it wired, but we will see), a smart phone and an Ipod touch. The first few are used the most though. I have the router currently downstairs in the kitchen in the corner (I know terrible place) unfortunately it was the only place beside the room upstairs, which tbh I don't know why we didn't do, which is still towards an end to the house. The middle most part of the house would be in between the kitchen and the dinning room on the first floor, although it doesn't have a great place for the coax jack to be installed. The other room would be mine upstairs. So the question is; is the router better off upstairs or down stairs. Also the router is a Linksys WRT54GS so its only G sadly. I'd like the best signal strength as possible spending the least amount of money as possible. Sadly I game (PS3,Laptop,Desktop) which also would make it awesome to have some of these wired, but theirs no great location to get the best of both worlds. If I had to choose it would be my desktop to be wired which is why my room for the router would be nice if its a good place for the signal.

my dad wants me to get on expanding our home network (getting wireless into other places in the house). i do consider myself pretty tech savvy ( i just built my computer from scratch) but this is a little bit beyond my comfort zone. the 4 ports on the router are keeping me tied up and the size and layout of the house are restricting the wireless range
provider: comcast cable
modem: arris TM502G (comcast provided)
router: linksys wireless-n wrt160n v3
4 pcs running windows xp to windows 7
3 laptops running xindows xp, windows 7 and windows 7 starter (netbook)
1 xbox 360
1 ps3
(looking to add netflix capable bluray players on 2 tvs in the future)
the downstairs layout (router is the star)
the upstairs (red is range of current setup thats a stretch) (blue wanted coverage)
not to scale and a quick draw the top half of the house is off set from the basement area. i used google earth to estimate the range from the router to the outside area of my wanted coverage area and its roughly 80 feet through 4 walls and the flooring i do not believe theres a single router capable of doing that without dropping some serious cash down.as is all the ports are currently tied up, and id like to expand the number of ports, along with getting wireless to the area i pointed out, i have the capability of pulling hard wire through out the house also.

1) How do you manage your inventory of network equipment from the time you receive a product into inventory to the time you decommission it?
2) How do you make aware the people who manage your network monitoring/reporting software that a device has been added/removed from the field?
2a) How do you notify the people who manage your network monitoring/reporting software of what is to be monitored on a new device in the field? Of a new interface that has been added/removed on an existing device?
2b) How quickly do you notify for 2/2a? i.e. minutes, hours, days, etc.
3) What types of interfaces and resources do you monitor on a network device?

Other problem is that when I want to go to my modem web panel by entering 192.168.1.1 in my browser, I see it tries to connect to other modems and if I enter default user/pass I can log into other peoples modem! Is that my ISP fault for misconfiguration?

I have a laCie hard drive which we use to store all our files. There are 2 of us in the office and we would both like to be able to access the storage at the same time. Currently our laCie can only be seen on our desktop's if only one computer is connected (using either firewall and/or USB connectors).
Lastly, we also back up our files using dropbox, however when you drag and drop the files into dropbox from the desktop, the copying of the files uses the hard drive (HD) memory thereby reducing available HD space. Any way to upload folders (not individual files) onto dropbox without using any HD space?

I am trying to brainstorm some ideas for the best wireless set up in a house that is 2 stories and 8500 SQ Feet. The house is wired with ethernet jacks.
Option 1. ASUS RT-N66U and Hawking Hi-Gain HWREN1
Option 2. Two Apple Airport Extreme's at either end of the house.
Option 3. Asus RT-N66U and Linksys WRT54G (DD-WRT Firmware).
What about the placement of the equipment? Should there be one router/access point on each floor or just two at either end of the house.

I currently have one wireless router in my house. Of course its hooked up the the modem, but i also have it hooked up directly to my desktop considering the router is on the desk where my computer is.I recently moved to a new house. One of the rooms has a huge brick wall in it, unfortunately the computer is in that room.AND, its on the far left side of the house, so the other side of the wall barely gets any signal (Enough to work, but it bounces and only gets about 2 Megabytes Per Second, which is awful, because the router sends out 20 megabytes per second due to our internet plan.) Now, my room is all the way on the far right side of the house, in my room, i get barely any connection at all, 20% is normal in my room. I have my Playstation 3 in my room, so I had to wire an ethernet cable from the wireless router, up through the attic, to my PS3. I can now get 20 MBPS while playing video games. While that is great, i still don't have a wireless connection back there.
What i want to know is, can i plug in another wireless router to the ethernet cable in my room, sending out another signal. So basically, im plugging up a wireless router to another wireless router, and want them to both send out internet.I plan on getting a gaming laptop in December and will be playing it most of the time in my room. I need to know if this is possible, and if it is, how do i do it?First off, let me state that moving the computer or router in front of the brick wall is completely out of question. Also, know a lot of stuff about computers, but know almost nothing about networking.
