Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Loses IPv4 And IPv6 Information?

Dec 21, 2012

No changes made but router will lose all information for IPv connectivity.  I have paid twice to support to fix this issue and it still occurs every few months. I tried rebooting router, and doing an IP Release/ Renew and router does not get IP address.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 - Translate Ipv4 Address And Port To Ipv6?

Nov 9, 2012

I have a virtual machine running in my desktop which connected on the gigabit lan port on EA4500 with firmware 2.0.37.What I want to be able to do forward a port that came from an external ipv4 address to the ipv6 address and a different port to my virtual machine (to remote desktop port 3389).The reason I want to convert the traffic to ipv6 is because virtual machine is running vpn and is not reacheable through ipv4 (unless bunch of routes are setup and things get complicated etc). I verified my phsical server and virtual server get both ipv6 ip addresses through ipv6 tunnel from comcast. Without tunneling I could not get ipv6 setup using automatic mode with comcast, it simply did not work for some reason.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Loses Signal Strength And Transmission Speed?

Aug 30, 2012

I have been disappointed by the range of the EA4500 compared to previous routers, but I am most puzzled by it's behavior. I may get an "excellent" connection close to the router (one room away) and speeds up to 65 Mps, but after a few minutes of surfing the web the signal strength and speed can drop substantially.

The problem is the worst at a distance (one floor down in our house, maybe 30 feet away in total) where the signal strength may start at "good" and a speed of perhaps 30 Mps, but then after 3-4 minutes drops to "poor" and maybe 5 Mps.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 - Computer Would Not Get Valid IPv6 On LAN

Apr 18, 2013

Lets get this straight, right off!  If I plugged my computer directly to my Comcast Modem, IPv6 works fine on the { url }  So I do not think any of this problem is related to my computer

I bought a EA4500 Router so I would be ready for IPv6, and also wanted N as well as the storage USB port.  When I got the router, it came I guess with the original release firmware.  It looked "Classic", but the box said Smart.  I did the firmware upgrade.  I could not get a IPv6 from Comcast.  IPv4 worked fine.

I then changed to the latest "Classic: firmware, and all started to work.  So I decided to try Smart again.  Same thing, no IPv6 from Comcast.  After being on chat for I think close to 2 hours today and getting no where, I did a reset to start at scratch again.  I then got a IPv6 from Comcast.  Many moons ago, it was a real hassle to switch devices hooked to a cable modem.  At least here you had to power cycle the modem, so I have always cloned my wired Desktop MAC. So when I put it back in, I lost IPv6 from Comcast.  Turned off MAC cloning, and I got the IPv6 again.  So it looks like there is a bug in the Smart Firmware and MAC cloning since it worked OK with Classic firmware.  OK, I could live with no cloning since the issues of yesteryear don't seem to be there in getting a IP from the cable modem.

Then for what ever reason, my computer would not get a valid IPv6 on the LAN from the router.  I got some IP, but no Gateway.  I tried everything I could think off.  And again, plugging the computer directly to the cable modem, IPv6 worked fine.  So something is just not right with this router as far as I am concerned.

Also, it seems like navigating through the menus on a local connection (192.168.1.1), I constantly got a message to wait popping up on the screen, for many seconds.  If I had no Internet connection it would take forever on some things.

I have spent many hours on this, and am just giving up and going to look at another brand product.  I don't need or want the "Smart" functions anyway.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Prefix Delegation For Establishing An IPv6 Connection

Aug 30, 2012

My ISP (OTEnet, Greece) offers IPv6 connectivity in the form of dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 with the requirement that the router supports DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation for establishing an IPv6 connection.Using other routers (Cisco 887W, DrayTek Vigor2130n), I have established an IPv4/IPv6 connection but I am unable to do so with the EA4500. As a matter of fact, when I have the "IPv6 - Automatic" option enabled the router not only cannot obtain an IPv6 prefix from the ISP but it gets stuck in the connection attempt and never obtains an IPv4 or an IPv6 address. I have to disable the IPv6 option in order to simply establish an IPv4-only connection without problems.So, my questions are:

1. Does the latest (2.1.38.38880) firmware support dual-stack IPv6 and DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation?

2. If the router cannot negotiate an IPv6 connection why is it not establishing an IPv4 connection only but gets stuck in the process?

DNS Not Working IPV4 IPV6 Not Connected?

Jan 11, 2013

has quite frankly gotten me absolutely annoyed . I've tried just about everything, from using the netsh commands to changing the dns to 8.8.8.8 or that other one or the other. Nothing is working, I unplugged the router, problem persists, I disabled IPV6 problem persists, I restore, problem persists. The only clue I have is my router, and mysteriously, there are TWO of my computer on it. It might be nothing but most certainly has caught my attention. Also, it gives me this info about my media being disconnected

D-Link DIR-825 :: IpV4 Versus IpV6 Implementation For Remote Access And VPN?

May 16, 2013

 I currently have ipV4 as the setting on my DIR-825.   Other posts seem to want ipV6 which is more secure but is not possible with a DIR-825 Rev A1.  I have two routers, a primary router (DIR-825 Rev B1) capable of ipV6 and a secondary router (DIR-825 Rev A1).  If I implement ipV6 on the Rev B1 router but keep ipV4 on the secondary router, will this improve the security, or will it just mess things up so nothing works?Certain devices (cell phones and most Tablets) don't deal with ipV6 very well at all.   The ones I have tested flat don't connect to the wireless network if the router is set at ipV6. Is ipV4 adequate for a Home/Small Business Network when trying to implement Remote Access and VPN?

D-Link DIR-825 :: Firmware 2.05NA - How To Get IPv6 In IPv4 Tunnel Working

Jun 9, 2011

I have a Dlink DIR-825 B1 with firmware 2.05NA.  I recently reset it to factory defaults to make sure I didn't misconfigure something.

I have been struggling to get a IPv6 in IPv4 tunnel working with tunnelbroker.net.  I think the issue is a problem with the router itself and i'm not sure how to get it fixed.

All of my machines were getting IPv6 addresses (both windows, mac, linux) but none of them seemed to work.  All I was able to do was ping the gateway itself using the local lan address.  In each case they were missing a default IPv6 route.  If I added a default route then it would work.

I started looking at the packets using a network sniffer and the Router Advertisements all had a Router lifetime value of "0" which is RFC4816 speak for "don't use this router as the default router".  So Windows/Linux is exactly right by not setting a default route.

The strange thing was that when I reboot the router I would briefly get a router advertisement with a lifetime of 1800s, the corrert prefix and dns server but then another router advertisement would come along 5 seconds later with a router advertisement of 0.

I have TCP' Other observations

... using 6to4 I would get working IPv6 address.  The difference again seemed to be the Router Lifetime.  But I want to use a permanent tunnel.  I have found 6to4 unreliable.

... the router never responds to router solicitations.  It only sends a router advertisement when it wants to.

... the router never responds to DHCPv6 when that is configured.

Cisco Firewall :: 3545 IPv6 Tunneling Through IPv4 - Blockage

Nov 3, 2009

Would like to learn from you what tools I could use in a Network that provides IPv6 visibility and also completely blocks IPv6 from being tunneled through ipv4 only networks.

I have tested this  from Linux running some internal penetration test apps,but specifically running Teredo tunneling in Local LAN that is able to completely bypass security paremeters such as websence filtering servers and be able to accessing internet IPv6 sites, even its equivalent IPv6 address based on its IPv4 PAT address could be pinged from outside..  is like the PIX firewall never existed  - wide opened door .

Blocking in outbound and inbound direction udp ports 3545 and 3544 seem to done the trick in dropping IPv6 at the PIX/ASA  from being tunneled out or in.. Is this so ? Realy ? not to fast!! None of our local systems - users PCs or servers have IPv6 stack enabled as a policy, however, in reality this poses a serious thread.

For example, Teredo tunneling running in a host inside LAN say by a user who is a hacker can use different  UDP ports from the standard listening udp 3545/3544 ports, host will still be able to tunnel IPv6 through IPv4 again, in this case I want to have  tool or a strategy that can detect this internally beside being blocked at the firewall, I am looking at AIP for our ASAs would this help?  What other tools could I utilized to have some sort of IPv6 awareness in our LAN without having to rung IPv6 that can provide some visibility of this invisible traffic in IPv4 LANs.

I found the drivers for the wireless on acer.com and removed the driver that was on here at first and put the one from acer. i cant find a network in range but device manager says its working fine. Then I found out the wired connection isnt working either and im getting the same messages from windows troubleshooter. It says both are "experiencing driver or hardware related issues and "make sure your internet protocol bindings are correct - ensure that ipv4 and ipv6 are selected in the config for the network adapter". it links me to the connection properties and ipv4 and ipv6 are checked off for both. futhermore, in the connection status window it says i have no ipv4 or ipv6 connectivity.

After that period then all devices gain access back. We have a Cisco Linksys router, Model number WRT110, it is the Range Plus version. I got it 6 months ago from a friend that had never pulled it out of the box or used it. I used it before moving and it did not have this problem. We are using cable for our internet and have a Motorola Surfboard model number SB5101U for our Modem. We have 2 Dell computers, both about a year old, and a LG blue ray device that connects wirelessly to stream movies

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 Loses Connection To Internet Through Comcast

Jan 24, 2012

I have a problem with my E3200 that has happened at least 4 times since I first purchased, installed and configured it.  Initially I thought it might be something with Comcast, but a) I never had the problem with my Linksys WRT54G router and b) It seems I can now duplicate the issue by saving a config file and restoring it.The specific issue appears to be somewhat random.  At some point the connection to the Internet simply stops for no apparent reason.  I am able to ping the router and connect to it.  I am also able to drop and renew connections to the cable modem successfully.  Furthermore, I can ping my network side of the router, as well as the external address handed to my router by the cable modem, and the cable modem gateway address, but still no connection to the Internet.The only solution to my problem has been to restore the factory defaults to the router and reconfigure it from scratch, which does seem to fix the issue for a time until it occurs again.  FYI, I do not use the Cisco connect software because I have several custom port and QOS configs that are necessary for an IP Phone and other hardware on my network.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT310n V2 - Slowly Loses Connection Speed

Nov 24, 2012

I have had my WRT310n for at least a year now.  When I first started using it, my broadband speed would drop after a while till it was sometimes under 1mb.  I have Charter high speed.  I checked around here and found that heat may have been an issue so I got it propped up so I had some airflow under it even though it didn't feel hot when checking.  I also updated the firmware then and for a long time it seemed to have cured the issue.  Lately though, the problem is back.  I updated firmware again but still no change.  The unit is cool to the touch so heat is not the problem.  After turning off for a bit and then rebooting, the speed goes back to normal and stays that way for a few days.  I also tried rebooting my cable modem to test that aspect but after doing that, no change.  Just rebooting the router fixes things.  I'm at a loss.  I can't keep having this happen especially since my wife works remotely from home.
