Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 - Computer Would Not Get Valid IPv6 On LAN

Apr 18, 2013

Lets get this straight, right off!  If I plugged my computer directly to my Comcast Modem, IPv6 works fine on the { url }  So I do not think any of this problem is related to my computer

I bought a EA4500 Router so I would be ready for IPv6, and also wanted N as well as the storage USB port.  When I got the router, it came I guess with the original release firmware.  It looked "Classic", but the box said Smart.  I did the firmware upgrade.  I could not get a IPv6 from Comcast.  IPv4 worked fine.

I then changed to the latest "Classic: firmware, and all started to work.  So I decided to try Smart again.  Same thing, no IPv6 from Comcast.  After being on chat for I think close to 2 hours today and getting no where, I did a reset to start at scratch again.  I then got a IPv6 from Comcast.  Many moons ago, it was a real hassle to switch devices hooked to a cable modem.  At least here you had to power cycle the modem, so I have always cloned my wired Desktop MAC. So when I put it back in, I lost IPv6 from Comcast.  Turned off MAC cloning, and I got the IPv6 again.  So it looks like there is a bug in the Smart Firmware and MAC cloning since it worked OK with Classic firmware.  OK, I could live with no cloning since the issues of yesteryear don't seem to be there in getting a IP from the cable modem.

Then for what ever reason, my computer would not get a valid IPv6 on the LAN from the router.  I got some IP, but no Gateway.  I tried everything I could think off.  And again, plugging the computer directly to the cable modem, IPv6 worked fine.  So something is just not right with this router as far as I am concerned.

Also, it seems like navigating through the menus on a local connection (192.168.1.1), I constantly got a message to wait popping up on the screen, for many seconds.  If I had no Internet connection it would take forever on some things.

I have spent many hours on this, and am just giving up and going to look at another brand product.  I don't need or want the "Smart" functions anyway.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Prefix Delegation For Establishing An IPv6 Connection

Aug 30, 2012

My ISP (OTEnet, Greece) offers IPv6 connectivity in the form of dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 with the requirement that the router supports DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation for establishing an IPv6 connection.Using other routers (Cisco 887W, DrayTek Vigor2130n), I have established an IPv4/IPv6 connection but I am unable to do so with the EA4500. As a matter of fact, when I have the "IPv6 - Automatic" option enabled the router not only cannot obtain an IPv6 prefix from the ISP but it gets stuck in the connection attempt and never obtains an IPv4 or an IPv6 address. I have to disable the IPv6 option in order to simply establish an IPv4-only connection without problems. So, my questions are:

1. Does the latest (2.1.38.38880) firmware support dual-stack IPv6 and DHCPv6 Prefix Delegation?

2. If the router cannot negotiate an IPv6 connection why is it not establishing an IPv4 connection only but gets stuck in the process?

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 - Translate Ipv4 Address And Port To Ipv6?

Nov 9, 2012

I have a virtual machine running in my desktop which connected on the gigabit lan port on EA4500 with firmware 2.0.37.What I want to be able to do forward a port that came from an external ipv4 address to the ipv6 address and a different port to my virtual machine (to remote desktop port 3389).The reason I want to convert the traffic to ipv6 is because virtual machine is running vpn and is not reacheable through ipv4 (unless bunch of routes are setup and things get complicated etc). I verified my phsical server and virtual server get both ipv6 ip addresses through ipv6 tunnel from comcast. Without tunneling I could not get ipv6 setup using automatic mode with comcast, it simply did not work for some reason.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Setting Default IP Address For EA4500?

Aug 27, 2012

I have bought EA4500 router recently in preparations for the Singapore fibre broadband upgrade.

But for the time being I'm using it to connect to my current Linksys WAG200G ADSL Wireless Gateway.

Here's the issue I'm currently facing. I have set my EA4500 router default IP address to 192.168.1.10 to aviod conflicts with my gateway which is using 192.168.1.1. But everytime when I connect my router to the gateway, the router's default IP address changes to 10.179.159.126 or some other random IP address by itself whenever I try to change to back. However, I'm still able to surf the internet and stuffs with that current settings.

Is there something that I could do to prevent the IP address from changing by itself? And will the same thing happen again when I upgrade to fibre broadband?

Cisco :: 3560 - Missing IPv6 Tunnel Command?

Sep 17, 2011

I've finally got my 3560 switch IPv6 capable (IP Services IOS), but I've stumbled upon something strange: I can configure a tunnel interface, but I can't put the tunnel in ipv6ip mode. The command is missing. I can choose GRE, IP in IP, and a bunch of other things, but no ipv6ip. I'm a bit desperate here and probably I am going to have to live with it, but just in case? I need the IPv6 tunnel for an uplink to a tunnel broker which only supports this type of tunnel, and I'm surprised this is missing.

IPv6 Tunnel Broker Service Behind Cisco PIX 506e

Feb 5, 2011

So I have a Cisco PIX 506e that I've modified a bit, but am quite happy w/ when it comes to performance and configuration (I can actually set up the VPN server w/o too much thought.) I also have a Mikrotik Routerboard 750, I'm no longer using it as my router due to a few config issues I had plus the fact I had to hard code my internet gateway's arp address into the device due to some issues.

What I am wanting to do, which I'm sure is possible and easily accomplished (I just don't have the time right now to try it) is set the routerboard up behind my pix and have it function as an ipv6 router, while the pix handles my ipv4 duties. I've already set up the routerboard w/ an ipv6 tunnel broker when I had it running as my router, I am just curious if it will work in a similar fashion when configured behind an ipv4 device.

D-Link DIR-825 :: Firmware 2.05NA - How To Get IPv6 In IPv4 Tunnel Working

Jun 9, 2011

I have a Dlink DIR-825 B1 with firmware 2.05NA.  I recently reset it to factory defaults to make sure I didn't misconfigure something.

I have been struggling to get a IPv6 in IPv4 tunnel working with tunnelbroker.net.  I think the issue is a problem with the router itself and i'm not sure how to get it fixed.

All of my machines were getting IPv6 addresses (both windows, mac, linux) but none of them seemed to work.  All I was able to do was ping the gateway itself using the local lan address.  In each case they were missing a default IPv6 route.  If I added a default route then it would work.

I started looking at the packets using a network sniffer and the Router Advertisements all had a Router lifetime value of "0" which is RFC4816 speak for "don't use this router as the default router".  So Windows/Linux is exactly right by not setting a default route.

The strange thing was that when I reboot the router I would briefly get a router advertisement with a lifetime of 1800s, the corrert prefix and dns server but then another router advertisement would come along 5 seconds later with a router advertisement of 0.

I have TCP' Other observations

... using 6to4 I would get working IPv6 address.  The difference again seemed to be the Router Lifetime.  But I want to use a permanent tunnel.  I have found 6to4 unreliable.

... the router never responds to router solicitations.  It only sends a router advertisement when it wants to.

... the router never responds to DHCPv6 when that is configured.

Linksys Wireless Router :: IPv6 Setup For E4200?

Jun 11, 2012

Our internet provider has no intention of providing a IPv6 DNS so I have a crippled at best service.  We live in an area where our only option is through satellite service, so changing providers in not in the cards, yet.

If I "Disable" the DHCP Sever, the setup menu provides a method for me to force feed up to three Static DNS addresses, all with IPv4 addresses.

There are several locations that provide "free" DNS service, but how does one verify the security of such sites? Does Cisco keep track of the status of this kind of service or am I on my own?  Cisco seems to endorse two DDNS services, but for home use, the extra charges seem otherwise unnecessary, and do not yet address the IPv6 question.

The first few that I have investigated that do provide IPv6 service also provide their addresses in IPv6 format.  The E4200 menu does not seem to allow me to do that.

Am I going to be forced to live with crippled IPv6?  I have already discovered a software product that has failed since changing routers, but works if I take my laptop to a particular WiFi location.

Also, if I have to buy another router to support IPV6, I'm going to buy a D-Link. It's nothing personal, I just find it absolutely idiotic that a router that supports wireless-N doesn't support IPV6. You have to ask your self, how does the standard IPV6 spec thats a few years old not make it to the final product of a router, but a non-standard wireless-N spec implementation somehow got the O.K....?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1200 PPPoE And IPv6 Not Working Fine

Feb 7, 2013

Have a v2 E1200.  Connect with PPPoE to ISP.  IPv4 works fine.  With firmware included on router, 2.0.01, it would receive a /64 of IPv6 from the ISP.  This /64 would show up under 'status' / 'local network'.  Although it did not seem to advertise this space to PC's on my network so I was unable to use it.  I updated firmware to 2.0.04.  Now it does not even pick up the IPv6 /64 at all.

Anyone have PPPoE and IPv6 working?  Anywhere I can download 2.0.01 to try it again?

Is there a model of router that actually works with IPv6?

Linksys Wireless Router :: DVR8-4000 IPv6 Static Address

Apr 10, 2013

I have a Swann Communication security camera system with their DVR8-4000 hooked to an IPv4 router, connected to the Internet using the new HughesNet Gen4 service. The Swann DVR wired to my router requires a static IP address.  HughesNet Gen4 is implemented with IPv6 and I am told that it does not accommodate an IPv4 type static address.

I have discussed the issue with both company’s technical support.  HughesNet Gen4 reps recognize the issue and may support static addressing in the future, but not now.  Swann reps will not modify their implementation because of the relatively small Gen4 market.  The Swann rep suggested that replacing my IPv4 router with an IPv6 router might resolve the “static IP address” issue.I am looking at several Linksys IPv6 routers including the EA4500 SMART WiFi Wireless Router N900, but know too little about IPv4, IPv6 and router/static addressing to proceed unassisted.

1) can I implement a static address with an Linksys IPv6 router cdonnected to Gen4?

2) Which Linksys routers offer IPv6 support?

3) How does one go about setting an IPv6 static address using HughesNet Gen4 on a Linksys router?

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA3500 Disabled And Enabled IPV6 On Network Card

I purchased a Linksys EA3500 about two months ago, brought it home and set it up with my DSL provider and everything was great, until sometime last week, and since then my download speeds have just plummeted to basically nothing. I did some troubleshooting but I cannot seem to find what the issue is. I have checked all the cables etc, and I know that it is definitely something with the router itself..My current Speedtest.net speeds are as follows (I am paying for a 5mb connection) with the EA3500.Ping of 15ms Download speed of .67mbps, Upload speed of .60mbps.When I remove the router and hook straight to the DSL modem I get the following results.Pink of 12ms Download speed of 4.89mbps, Upload speed of .60mbps

- I have tried to reset the router both by holding the reset button and through the configuration application.
- I have enabled and disabled wireless to see if that was slowing things down
- I have plugged in my old WRT54G and I get the 12ms, 4.89mbps,.60mbps results on it (so I know its the EA3500)
- I tried putting the computer in the DMZ
- I have changed the ports that the computer is plugged into
- I have disabled and enabled IPV6 on both router and network card
- Firmware version - 1.1.38.134141
