Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 Has Numerous Network Devices With No MAC?

Feb 22, 2013

I have noticed from time to time I get many (15-20) "network devices" in the Device List with no MAC address. I notice this mainly when managing Parental Controls. I go and clean up the Device List and days later they reappear. Another interesting thing is that the computer I am writing this with (through the router) does not show up in the Device List and I have an IP address from the router. I have the latest firmware 1.1.28.146856. Does anyone else see this on their EA6500?

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 Devices Not Appearing In Network Window?

Jan 31, 2013

We purchased an EA6500 to take the place of the router function of a Verizon Westell 7500.  We bridged the Westell, installed and set up the EA6500 and everything seems fine.

What is strange is that some devices on the network (our server, user PC, a NAS that isn't part of the domain) while accessible if you navigate to them via \ do not appear in the Network window.

This of course is causing issues for some users who don't or won't map network drives.

At first I thought this may be an issue related to us having some of our network devices with static IP addresses so we switched them over to dynamic - no change in the network window.

we will have to return this router and get a different brand/model if it won't work in this fashion.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 Does Not List AppleTV Devices

Apr 30, 2013

I have an EA6500 and have three AppleTV... all three generations.l  I also have a DirecTV Genie and DirecTV HD-DVR that, together, provide whole-house viewing.  When I first setup the EA6400 based network, all three AppleTVs were listed and my whole-house viewing worked.  This past Saturday, however, that changed, when I couldn't see the programs recorded on the HD-DVR, from the Genie.  My troubleshooting determined one of the AppleTVs had been assigned the same address as the HD-DVR upstairs and that the HD-DVR wasn't listed as being connected.  Once I reset everything, the IPs resolved and the whole-house viewing was resolved, however, none of the AppleTVs are listed as connected, even though they are.  I can check the connections by the AppleTV device and see that they do, indeed, have an IP address, and I can view material from the iTunes cloud or stored on another PC in the local network.  I reset everything again, but to no avail.  No AppleTV devies show as connected from Smart Wi-Fi.  The AppeTVs are all wired to the LAN... not wireless.

So, the question is, is there a fix to get AppleTV devices to list?  All of my devices and router have the lastest firmware.  BTW, I had a WRT610N, which I'm now useing as an access point, didn't have this issue.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Cannot Connect Wifi Devices To Ea6500

Mar 19, 2013

To preface this message I need to state that I am functionally illiterate when it comes to any kind of networking. I just replaced an old Linksys wireless-G router with a new Linksys EA6500 router.  My needs are as follows: I am connecting 4 desktop computers (two personal and two business) via Ethernet cables.  In addition there will be three smart phones, two DVD players and one game console connected wirelessly.  In the future I will add a printer, hard drive and more wireless devices.  After installing the hardware and running the setup disk all four computers wired with Ethernet cables worked fine (although they are not set up to communicate or share files with one another - they only need to access the internet.  My problem is with the wireless connectivity.  I cannot get any one of the wireless devices to work.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 Multiple Devices Under One Device?

I got the new EA6500.  For the last few days I've noticed there are multiple devices showing under one device with different IP addresses.  In the beginning they show up individually with their own device names, then somehow combine.  Each device is different ie. computer, phone, DirecTV box, etc.  I did a hard reset, re-flash and still it keeps happening.

Although EA6500 states support for WPA devices it appears that some B devices (like HP Wi-Fi printer PSC 2510) are not supported. The lack of support seems due to the lack of WPA with TKIP encryption, only the newer EAS encryption appears to be available.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 Multiple Devices Under One Device Workaround?

Dec 9, 2012

Once your devices start showing up in your device list make a DHCP reservation for each device. (after confirming that no other devices are listed under it).

If you have a device that has multiple MAC & ip addresses under it you MUST first determine what the devices are listed & power-down before you can delete the device. Also note that some wired devices will still show as connected so you must have to either power down the device by pulling Th power cord OR disconnect the ethernet cable.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 - Identifying Devices Causing High Usage?

I'm thinking of purchasing a Cisco Linksys EA6500. I need a router that can one monitor bandwidth used by device. Keep exceeding our ISP's network bandwidth allocation, need to identify the devices that are causing this high usage and be able to do so from the router. Does the EA6500's standard software support this, is their router software one can obtain for the unit that does this or is there another home router option that can perform this function?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 / Connecting Devices To Network

Nov 12, 2010

I have 3 computers in total: 2 desktops and 1 laptop.

1. My primary PC is connected physically to my router.

2. My (downstairs) laptop is connected to the wireless.

3. My other PC connects to the wireless network via USB wireless adapter.

I was having issues getting #3 connected to the wireless network.  I used the Wi-Fi Protected Setup™ PIN number provided to me by the Linksys Wireless Manager to no avail.  The E3000 router and #3 could never find each other. After calling support, it turns out that more often than not, "other" wirless management software (in my case Linksys  Wireless Manager that came with the USB device) was interfering with my Windows XP Wireless Manager.Rule of thumb: Always let your native operating system manage the wirless networks that are available to it.  It does a far better job and is 10x more reliable than software provided by 3rd party vendors.Specific to my case: Windows XP, I had to enable the Windows Wireless Manager and uninstall the Linksys Wireless Manager Software. Here it is...Enabling Windows Wireless Manager These directions are for Windows XP:

1) From the Windows Start menu, click Control Panel.

2) Click Network and Internet Connections.

3) Click Network Connections.

4) Right-click the icon for your "wireless network connection", then click Properties.

5) At the top of the window, click the Wireless Networks tab.

If the "Wireless Networks" tab does not appear between the "General" and "Advanced" tabs, you are not on/in the wireless network connection settings:a) click cancelb) Right-click the icon for your wireless connection and choose "Enable". c) return to step 4 6) Check the checkbox next to "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings".

These directions are for Windows Vista:

1) Go to the Windows start menu and then the control panel.

2) Open Network and Sharing Center.

3) Click Manage Network Connections (from the left side menu).

4) Right click on the network adapter 'Wireless Network Connection' and choose "Properties" and click "Continue".

5) At the top of the window, click the "Wireless Networks" tab.

If the "Wireless Networks" tab does not appear between the "General" and "Advanced" tabs: a) click cancel b) Right-click the icon for your wireless connection and choose "Enable". c) Return to step 4

6) Check the checkbox next to "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings".

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT160N V3 - Network Crashes When No Devices Are Connected?

Nov 6, 2011

For a while now, my wireless network at home has been very unreliable. I posted on these forums before, asking for assistance to fix crashes that seemed to be random. I was largely unsuccessful, and the problem continued. However, as I continued to experiment with different methods to keep my network up and running, I noticed that as long as I had at least one device connected to the network around-the-clock it never crashed. This was easy enough, as I own an iPod touch and a dock (I would leave it sitting it the dock unlocked all the time). But it's annoying to never be able to leave the house with it, and I'm ready to finally get a solution to the problem once and for all. I would prefer not getting a new router, but if worse comes to worse I will.

To sum it up:
-Works perfectly (when up) at full speed, never crashes unless there are no devices connected to it.
-When it does crash, it is very difficult to 'coax' it back into working again; it's been down for weeks at a time before.
-For some strange reason (and maybe this is a clue), newer game systems such as a Nintendo DSi or PS3 can make it start working again. I, of course, own neither of these.
-I'm using a WRT160N V3, latest firmware as far as i know.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 Without Routing / Using WAN?

Dec 29, 2012

I would like to use the EA6500 in my network - but nor as primary router (or in fact routing at all). I would have thought, one could simply tell the device to use a particular gateway, but it does not seem to be easy. I have used many other home routers as combined switch/AP/USB-drive (latest a D-Link DIR-655), but the EA6500 seems very picky. The "easy" "Smart Wi-Fi" setup requires internet access through the WAN port - and that divides my home network, which then have two zones which cannot really "talk" to each other. Alternatively, I can reset the device and access it directly on the IP (initially 192.168.1.1). But then I can change only LAN and WLAN settings. Stuff like Guest Access, USB-devices etc. won't work. Do anybody have success with this device without using the WAN port and the DHCP server?

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 NAT Redirection Bug?

Nov 20, 2012

I have a pair EA4500s that I am swapping out for a pair of EA6500s.  One EA6500 is a router.  The 2nd EA6500 is set as a bridge and us being used as an Access Point about 200ft and two floors above the main EA6500 router.  The two units are connected via DECA (200MB Ethernet over DirecTV cable - an alternative for others with a cable provider is called MOCA).  So, basically two EA6500s serving as two Access Points on opposite sides of the house and all wireless networks on different channels but all sharing the same SSID.  Everything works GREAT except for one unusual issue.

The issue is with wired or wireless clients.  If I try to use my PUBLIC address with port number to address a local client on the local network inside the NAT network the NAT redirection fails.  In other words if I use 172.16.16.8 for a local web cam while inside my network from an iPhone or PC all works great.  If I use the external public address, however, the connection times out.  If I pop out the EA6500 doing the routing/NAt and swap it with the old EA4500 with basically the same config as the EA6500 everything works again.  The EA6500 and the EA4500 are configured identical for the most part and with the EA4500 as the main router NAT redirection works great but with the EA6500 NAT redirection fails.  I have the firewall setting to FILTER NAT REDIRECTION unchecked so that's not the problem.

Seems very odd.... and only seems to happen with the EA6500..... the work around is to use the local IP address when the client is on the inside and the public address when on the outside, but what a pain that is....

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 Broadcasting Two 2.4 MHz Channels?

Oct 30, 2012

I set up EA6500.  All kinds of problems with anything on the 2.4 MHz band.  My wireless desktop on the 5.0 MHz band was flawless.  So I ran Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector (freeware).  The router is transmitting two 2.4 MHz signals!  One is the SSID I set up and named.  The other one is identical in every way except that the BSSID is slightly different.  It is a non-broadcasted SSID that shows up on every device as "Other Network."  I was on the phone with Cisco Support tonite, and they were great as usual but had no answer.  If you change the channel on the 2.4 MHz band, the shadow network also changes to the same channel (this blew the Tech's mind).  We reset the router to factory settings and started over.  They are calling me back tomorrow.  This router has great features on paper, but so far, it has not delivered.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Functionality Lost On EA6500?

Oct 2, 2012

The only way I could get my EA6500 to work as auto DHCP to my Roadrunner Motorola SBV5220 Surfboard cable modem was to disable IPv6 support on the router.  It appears that the EA6500 attempts to issue the DHCP request for address assignment from the modem using IPv6.  I could see the status of "Connecting" for IPv6 in the Diagnosis Reports and it would hang.  Once I disabled IPv6, the modem assigned an IPv4 address and everything worked fine.  However, am I giving up any functionality by having to do this?  I bought this router and the WUMC710 Universal Media Connector for the 5GHz connectivity for streaming and just wondered if I'm impacting UMC performance or any other functions of the router by having to disable IPv6.
