Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT160N Hangs - Restore Original Firmware In Case Update Fails?
Jun 16, 2008
I purchased a WRT160N router last Friday. After setting it up, everything seemed to work fine, but after a couple of hours, the router stopped responding to any requests. The LEDs stayed on as if nothing had happened, but the router was dropping everything coming from both the WAN and a wired LAN interface. Since than, I had to restart it 3 times during the last 3 days. The firmware is 1.53.0, which seems to be the latest firmware for the European market - even when I try to get a newer firmware, this site only offers the US version 1.02.2.Should I update the firmware to the US version 1.02.2 ? Is there any difference between the 1.53.0 and the 1.02.2 version ? Is there a way to restore the original firmware in case the update fails ? I haven't found any link to 1.53.0 version..Also, does this firmware updating affect my warranty ?
The router had firmware 2.0.x(?) and I tried to update to the latest FW, according to the webpage that's
FW_E1000_2.1.02.006_US_20130115.bin
Hardware is E1000 v2 according to sticker on back. The firmware update failed (no reason given) and the router now hangs in limbo where all it does is flashing the power LED.I set my PC to 19?2.168.1.2 and TFTP'd the firmware over to 192.168.1.1 - no errors reported and 192.168.1.1 is pingable. Held reset for 30s, then powered down the router for another 30s. On power-up the router still flashes the power LED.
I recently updated the firmware in my WRT160N V3.Ever since, the wireless signal is intermittent. It worked all day yesterday, and now today it doesn't connect at all.I can't remember exactly the settings I used to have before updating the firmware, should have written them down. From looking at articles on this site, I have the following settings:
MTU Manual 1492 MAC Adress enabled Network Mode: Mixed Channel Width 20MHz Channel: 11
Trying to update my firmware 1.00.01 B15 to 1.00.01 B17. I downloaded the firmware to my desktop (using mac os X 10.5.5) and connected my computer directly to port 1 on the back of the router. I used the Firmware upgrade tool under the Administration tab to upload the new firmware file. The update progress starts but fails at 98%
I updated the fimware on my WRT160N v3 and followed it up with a reset of the router. I then restored the router settings that I had saved. All the settings appeared to be good, but none of my wireless devices would connect. I reneted the pass phrases (WPA2) but still nothing. Tried to change the passphrase, still no good. I then did a factory reset of the router from the setiings page and manually re-entered and save the settings, again nothing. All of my devices are able to "see" the network and the correct SSID.
I have a wrt160n router set up at a friends house that i would connect my windows xp laptor to when i would go there. it always worked fine. i recently got a new laptop with vista 64 bit OS. i went to my friends today and connected via wireless for the first time. i expected to get prompted for the security key. instead it asked for the pin #. the pin number was something new i noticed when i replaced an older linksys with the new wrt160n so i had it in my notes. i entered the pin number and connected to the wireless router. but then my friend laptop could not connect and said it couldnt find the network. when i viewed the available networks, i noticed that the original network SSID had been changed to my vista laptop's computer name. i had to physically connect my laptop to the router and reconfigure the settings of the wireless network. then my friend was able to see the available network and automatically connect..
If someone has the original firmware for the EA3500 to copy. I need to downgrade my router after Cisco sabotaged it with their Cloud Connect. This will be the firmware you have right out of the box. Be sure you go into the Admin. section and Save a Copy before you ever connect to the Internet. Also Uncheck the Auto Updates box or you will be fed the Cloud Connect (and its amazing Terms Of Service).
It appears that there is no firmware I can download for my WRT54GL Version 1.1. While it may never have been updated from what the router came with from the factory, it would still be useful to have it available. In my case, I would like to revert the router from the DD-WRT firmware to factory specs.
My husbands laptops hard drive crashed and burned. Some of the memory was saved and loaded on the new hard drive one good thing is that I don't have to reload the wireless into the system. Okay that is fine but the problem it ask for the code key that I loaded it with when I first installed it. I lost it. Then I got on through the guest system and I forgot the password. I just want to get on and update the windows so that my husband will be able to enjoy his laptop again. I don't like sharing computers .
I bought my DIR-825 three months ago. The firmware seem to be from 2009, and the check-for-later-firmware functionality from the web interface tells me that my version (Current Firmware Version : 2.01EU) is the latest.
I don't believe that the firmware from 2009 is the latest, but have no idea on how to proceed.
My hardware in the web interface say this: (Hardware Version: B1 Firmware Version: 2.01E
The problem I really have is related to PPTP pass through (I think), but I thought making sure I have the latest firmware is always a smart move.
So, can the firmware-checker of the web-interface fail, or do I have the latest firmware?
I have an E4200 router with 3 WET610N access points. I did the firmware update on the E4200 router about 2 weeks ago so my son could use his xbox when he got home after 4 months of being away. Everything seemed to work OK as far as I could tell....but when he went to sign into xbox live and watch Netflix, it will load to 98% and stop. A friend of his came over with the new Slim xbox 360 with built in wireless and it will connect fine on its own, if we hook up one of the 610N's to it, it will load to 98% on Netflix and stop again with error code R8152. Both of my older xbox's will hook up and play on xbox live, just not work with Netflix.
I also noticed, it shows the WET610N as a hard wire on xbox and will not search for any wireless networks, I have 2. The newer Slim xbox360 will search out both networks on its own if you allow it to use its internal wireless. This only happened since the firmware update. And this equipment was working fine before this. Is there a way I can restore the previous version of firmware?
I've previously upgraded the firmware on our RV220W from 1.0.0.26 to 1.0.1.0 without any problems but all attempts to upgrade to the latest version 1.0.2.4 fails with the following message "Upgrade failed due to invalid/corrupted firmware". The router then automatically reboots with the current firmware.
We've already tried re-downloading and applying the update from several different machines using different operating systems and browsers without success. How to apply this firmware version successfully? We really need one of the VLAN fixes included in this latest version!
i got the RV042 and want to update the fw to 4.04.xx . After a few minutes, the browser wanted to perform the update again. I agreed and now, the webinterface isnt available and i cant get a IP from the router. So I tried to reset the router twice. After no success, I performed a factory-reset, which should work when I pressed the reset-button at least for 30 sec.Now the DIAG-LED blinks in a ~5sec rythm. What can I do?
My Cisco Linksys WRT 160N V3 is not permitting my Windows 7 to update.I know the problem is the router, because without it, I can update Windows 7 normally. My antivirus program is Avast?
I had issues with my router incorrectly resolving URLs. For example, going to facebook.com would gtive me a "wiki does not exist" message. Pinging facebook.com would give me an IP that belongs to wikipedia. The answer was SUPPOSED to be upgrading to v3.0.03.I upgraded and now my router WILL NOT connect to my DSL modem. Oh, it says it's connected and shows the correct IP address for my DSL modem but the gateway is showing 0.0.0.0. Direct connection to my PC works just fine.I have cycled the power on both the router and the DSL modem several times. The DSL modem is working just fine. I have done several IP release/renew on the router. I have reset the router. To no avail. This firmware update (which completed successfully) seems to have killed my routers ability to communitcate with the internet.
Looking into a firmware upgrade. I have a WRT160N. The label on the back, next to Model Number, simply says WRT160N with no version number. I therefore conclude, per info on the Cisco site, that it is a V1 model, not V2 or V3. And yet the Admin web page for the router says firmware version is 3.0.02. I'm pretty confident I have never upgraded firmware on this router, which means this is how it came out of the box long ago. Latest firmware for V1 is 1.02.11; latest firmware for V3 is 3.0.03.
Should I upgrade to 3.0.03? Is there a way to downgrade to 1.02.11? I'm having some minor issues whch may or may not be the ruter's fault, I figure a firmware upgrade (downgrade?) will at least rule out router firmware issues.
Having problems losing connectivity so decided to upgrade firmware from v1.00.7 to latest version available.
Downloaded the upgrade file and log into web based administrator. Select file and click on UPGRADE button. A couple of clicks on timeline then: UGRADE FAILED
I am trying to upgrade the firmware on my Linksys v1 router from 1.0.02 to 1.0.03 over a remote 56Kb circuit. I appear to be having a timeout problem. The upgrade always fails. I have upgraded several E1200s in my office over ethernet, and the upgrade appears to finish when the progress bar is at 15%. However, on my remote upgrade, the progress bar gets to 98%, hangs for a few more seconds, and then pops up a window with "Upgrade failed".
I suspect that there is a timeout on the upgrade process, and that I can't upload the 3.8 MB firmware file fast enough. If so, is there any way to increase the upgrade timeout?
I have tried repeatedly to upgrade my firmware from 1.0.03 to 1.0.04, but it always fails with a message :cannot upgrade at this time..." I've tried both IE and FireFox, and both wired and wireless connection to my PC (Windows 7).
I'm trying to upgrade my frmware to the lastest one (classic firmware) I've downloaded this file multiple times [URL] When I try the firmware upgrade (manual upgrade) and select the file, it always complains about the file being corrupt (using the .ssa file in the zip).
what is latest firmware version is for router WRT 160n (v1). The Linksys site currently states that it is Ver.1.02.11 (11/08/10). However, on the admin page for my actual router it states v1.52.0 Nov 16, 2007. These versions #s and dates don't jive. How could I have a supposedly newer version that is older than the most recent one posted?
After an indeterminate period my E4200 (firmware version 1.0.03) stops renewing the Internet IP address. This happens in both router mode and bridge mode.In router mode the E4200 is set for DHCP and connected to the cable modem, in bridge mode it is connected to a Dell switch with DHCP being provided by my Win2008R2 server. It appears that the device stops recognizing the existence of the Internet port - no lights come on when a cable is plugged in - whether connected to the cable modem or my Dell switch. Plugging the same cable into one of the 4 lan ports and that port lights up immediately (i.e. it is not a patch cable problem). If the E4200 is left switched off for some time (possibly days) it will work properly again for a while.
If by mistake I have attempted to upgrade the firmware my router "WRT610N" via my wireless laptop and after 24 hours the same screen "upgrading router" continues displayed and the router does not respond, How do I fix this?
I am trying to update my WRT110 which has 1.0.04 firmware on it right now but when i try to update it toVer.1.0.05 all i get is this message.... i dont know what to do i never had a problem updating my older router's befor i had this one this is the first time im updating this one i tryed updating it on IE 8 RC1 & also Safari 4 but i get the same message . I've also tryed saving the firmware file in it's own folder still no luck try updating on my xp desktop & my laptop with vista with same message? is it a problem with linksys with the file on there website maybe?
I go to the support page for the WRT54G routers. I set the version number to version 2 and there is no firmware file to download. For every other version there is a firmware file to download but not for version 2. Where can I get the latest firmware for my router.
I found this router still in box and am now using it. I want to update the firmware because i am having issues with it. it has what i assume is the original Firmware 1.00.1. The downloads for this router are no longer available. Why?
an EA6500 router that has intermmitent connectivity issues. Went into the configuration page and saw he was a couple versions behind on firmware. Used the online update option, firmware downloaded and then indicated that router would reboot. Did not power off router or leave the configuration web page. Watched light go out on router and come back on, but the spinning wait icon never went away after 5 minutes. Powered off and on and was back at the same point with the old firmware still. Downloaded the firmware to local drive and applied from local file, but same results. Waited 10 minutes this time. Surely it doesn't take more than 10 minutes for the router to reboot itself from a firmware flash?
Gave up on trying to update firmware and configured wifi settings. Left friend's house and then got a message about 15 minutes later that the router had locked up again. If he pulls power for 2 minutes it will then work for another short period of time.
Is there anything that can be done to try and restore normal operation to this particular router, or are these all signs of a hardware failure and the unit should just be replaced?
Just got a WRT120N and went online to get the most recent firmware and when i performed the upgrade it's gets about 3/4 of the way completed before it just stalls and start screen blinking like it's caught up or something. I using a modem, wrt120n router connection with a Brand New Sony Vaio laptop. I was able to upgrade my old WRT54G V5 router but can't seem to get the new router to update.
I've got an older SRX200 that is starting to "disconnect" frequently (loss of wireless connectivity). I've gone to the Linksys website to download a firmware update, as a potential fix, but the website says no firmware is available. The current version I'm using is 1.01.18.

I have a Linksys E1000 with Firmware Version: 2.1.02 I am having a very hard time searching to see if there is a newer Firmware Version out for this model. If there is any new Firmware update?
