I just bought a e3000 and I have a 24 ports switch. I would like to plug more than 8 pc...how do I proced ? I used to have a dlink router and just plug a cat5e from the dlint to the switch ... but it doesn't work with the e3000
View 5 RepliesI have been using Linksys routers for quite some time now, and recently made a big upgrade from the WRT54G to the E3000. I am familiar with the 192.168.1.1 interface and its functionality. However, I recently noticed a problem: when I set a port to forward traffic to any IP address on my network and then check whether or not it is actually open (url...), I am told that the port is still closed. More interestingly still, the first port that I forwarded when I first got the router is listed as open, but the other half dozen or so are still considered closed. I have been trying to set up a file transfer protocol (FTP) server, but can't even get traffic to forward from port 21! I even tried using the pre-configured FTP drop down on the Applications & Gaming tab, but to no avail. Has anyone had similar issues, or perhaps an idea as to why only one port is forwarded when I have followed the same steps that I have been using for years?
I tried to get in touch with Technical Support about this issue, but was told that I needed to purchase a $30 subscription in order to qualify for assistance. I don't think that I should have to pay $30 to know why the same steps work with some ports but not with others.
shows connection to cable modem, shows IP lease, able to renew and release lease. shows all DCHP clients, but does not allow internet to get through. tried cloning old routers MAC, no dice.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just purchased an E3000 to replace my WRT54G.I set up the E3000 through a wired connection from my Comcast modem to my desktop (running Windows 7).Through Cisco Connect, I was unable to connect to the internet. The desktop connects to the E3000 but the E3000 does not connect to the modem. I've tried to reset the E3000 and power down both the E3000 and the modem yet I still cannot connect.I swapped my WRT54G back into place and my connection is fine while I figure this out.

Can I change my E3000 to WEP? on a Nintendo support site per this issue, it says:
Routers using the Cisco Connect software default to WPA security, which is not compatible with online multiplayer with Nintendo DS Game Cards. To change your wireless security mode to WEP, you will need to use your router's web utility instead of Cisco Connect.
A) is that true
B) if so....HOW?
Bottom line, I NEED to be able to do this. If it's not possible, than I made a very bad purchase decision & will never do so again
i was having issues with one of my devices after a power outage. all my other devices worked (laptops, xbox, iphones, etc)i thought doing a reset on the router would get the odd device working again but all it did was mess up my internet. i don't have the key or cd any longer from when i set it up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have comcast Triple HD cable internet and I have been using a low end 5 year old Linksys Router. I decided to upgrade and get the E3000. So far I have had no luck at all getting it to work. Setup fails to even connect at all. I spent 2 hours on the phone with tech support. There were in trying to get it up and running but we have been unable to get a TCP/IP number from my provider (comcast). I hooked up the old router to see if any of my settings looked unusual but they seemed normal.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've had my E3000 for almost a year now and it's been great - until recently. Latencies have become patchy for some users and most surprisingly, the 5GHz network has stopped using two channels. I did a 30/30/30 reset on it a few minutes ago and re-configured the whole thing. It's set to use 40MHz Only and WPA2 Personal, but speeds at the physical layer are still just 144 Mbps and in the web interface's Status page it clearly says "20 MHz".
Why might this be? It was fine for so long, only to refuse to use two channels now. I've checked what the other wireless networks in my area are like, and none of them are even 5GHz-capable as far as I can tell, so the relevant spectrum shouldn't be overcrowded. It's rather nice to have the two channels for NAS transfers and streaming and such.
After manually specifying a base channel (48 at the moment), it actually kicks into 40MHz. The problem is now that my clients, both using a WUSB600N, are getting "Unable to connect to (SSID)" pretty much instantly after clicking the network in Windows.
I have a cable modem with an E3000 router, wired to my desktop. Internet connection is fine for my desktop, wired to Xbox, wifi for Iphone, Ipod, but no connectivity to my laptop wirelessly. About two weeks ago, all of my devices are having problems connecting to the network and if they do connect, it is unstable (slow speeds or constantly dropping from the network). I know it is not the internet due to the fact that my LAN connection (hardwired) runs great. I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out why. I have restored to factory defauls and started over setting it up with no change in performance. I have the latest drivers on the router and the laptop. I thought maybe it was vista and my laptop or network card, but the fact that I cannot get my phones or ipads to connect with good performance I am starting to think it is something to do with the router. Also, just for more info, I am using Chater cable internet. I am running vista 64x on the laptop.

Not sure how I got here, but I cannot now connect to the E3000 using the Browser Utility. USing https://10.x.x.x, shows certificate warning page, then when I continue "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".DId NOT change the host hame.Last time I used the Browser Utility (weeks ago) was to disable the wireless to check something. Reenabled the wireless, no apparent problems until today when I tried to access via the Browser Utility.As I never ran Connect, there are no settings to change, and now it cannot detect the device.I guess I'll wait until I HAVE to change something, and do a 30-30-30 reset.

I spent hours with my tech guy setting up the router so that I was getting excellent internet speed and the connection between my computer and my nas was maximized. In the process of setting up the router my laptop (Windows 7) and the basement laptop (Vista) were set up to access the router. Both work perfectly.These are now the only two devices in the house that can get internet access.The other devices that should connect are:
-2 Laptops (both Vista)
-1 iPhone 4
-2 iPhone 3gs
-1 Printer
I can't get them to connect. I spent an hour with a guy at Cisco tonight who just couldn't seem to get past the idea that it was not the laptop that was the problem.
Woke up this morning to the friendly 'No Internet access' message in the system tray. Thought it was the laptop but it wound up being the router (I guess).I can connect directly to internet via the cable modem (Comcast) but can't get a connection through the router.There are no IP addresses listed on the router admin page.Renew IP doesn't work.Everything was ok last night. I've had the router for a year or so and except for having to reset it every week or 2 for WiFi connection issues,it's worked pretty well.I soft-reset the router but then couldn't connect to 192.168.1.1.Hard-reset and still can't connect to 192.168.1.1.I do see connection lights. Just can't get to it.

The port forwarding for PPTP is turned on and VPN passthrough is enabled. The PPTP server reported GRE47 checksum failed. The linksys chat tech was not beneficial. How to get a PPTP route to work?

I plug the Ethernet cable into both to configure the printer and I cannot access the printer via its IP address. I suspect the printer is reporting the wrong IP address or it the IP is not being assigned by the router or it is being blocked by the router. Routers firewall is off. I use the Samsung software and it does not see the printer either. It seems the router is not seeing the printer or allowing it access to the network. Spent much time with a good Samsung support person and tried everything and narrowed the problem down to the router connection. Is there a setting on the router which needs to be changed to allow me to see the printer to configure it for wireless access?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have tried to connect my Kindle to my E3000 without success. The Kindle shows that the router is there but after entering my password in the Kindle it will not connect. I tried going into Cisco Connect and enable "Guest" user. Again the Kindle shows that the router is there showing "Guest User" and after entering the password for the guest user it still will not connect. The Kindle does connect to the internet through a router that is shown - I have no idea whose router it is - but at least it proves that the Kindel will connect to the internet.

Now, each of six rooms in my house has one Cat-5e (RJ-45) jack whose run terminates to the switch. In some of these rooms, I need two wired devices (wireless isn't an option for the devices). Can I use the LAN port of a spare, wireless router (to also use as an access point for cell phones, etc) to plug into the jack and increase the number of ports in that room to have a functional LAN and WAN? I have read tons of info on plugging switches into routers to increase the number of ports, but not the other way around. Plus, ripping open walls to expand the network isn't feasible either. My other thought, would be to replace the switch with another (2nd) router, by connecting the 1st and 2nd routers together, and have the runs terminate to the open LAN ports of both routers --= and then expand the ports in those rooms by also using additional, spare wireless routers.
