I'm going to upgrade my WRT54G wireless router to an e2000 Linksys router. How does the e2000 compare to the WRT54G? I've had years of great services from my WRT54G router, but it has been acting flaky lately even with the latest firmware available. Just curious how the e2000 compares to the WRT series.
View 3 RepliesI have one system running as a fale server in my house, upgraded my wrt54g to an e2000 and that server cannot get through therouter. if I switch to dhcp it works fine, then switch bake to a static ip outside the dhcp range and use the same mask, gateway, nds,etc I can ping the router but can't get through it. If I then reboot the router it will work for a short time but eventually stop and I have to reboot the router again. I haven't setup any kind of restrictions or other security, server is wired not wireless.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've had my WRT54G for a year few now andhave the occasional problem, were I end up powering off the Modem and the WiFibox to get a connection.So having a week of I thought I should tryand update the firmware and see if this solves the problem.I have a WRT54G Ver 2.0 and am running Win7on my main machine with IE9.I Downloaded the firmware update(FW_WRT54G_4.21.4.000_20110712), and while the update was loading I got a errormessage about Update not taken, this was while the Progress bar was about 3/4through, I click OK and waited a while to see if the progress bar moved anymore, butafter 10 min nothing appear to have happen. So I powered the box offand on again.I appear to be able to see my other PC andmy NAS drive but the WiFi and the broadband connect was gone.I reconnected my PC to the Broadband andlooked for a connection, but none that I’ve found seam to work. I found a referenceto a TFTP utility, but all the links on your site appear to be dead, so I haven’tdownload it from anywhere else in case its different to your.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a wrt54g (8.1) that was acting a little funny so did some googling and followed the instructions to install new firmware. First the installation failed, double checked to make sure I downloaded the correct file (FW_WRT54G_8.1.09.02_US_20071227.bin), did a reset and power cycle. Checked the information again and everything on the router setup completely disappeared.

I bought two of the V1 units and had no trouble with one of them but the other is frustrating me. factory reset does nothing, cannot connect via a wired connection, nothing. All the lights work fine.

I ran the firmware upgrade and hit the reset button for 30 seconds and everything went well until I went to restore my personal settings. When I went to the router page it asked for a user name and password but the old user name and password don't work so I am locked out and can't get to the restore page.

My version was v2.02.7, downloded file FW_WRT54Gv4_4.21.5.000_20120220.bin . After I run the upgrade it said upgrade failed. After that I can't connect to internet and can't access the router. I tried to reset it and unplug it- no luck. From my PC control panel I see local area connections status connected, but as I said, it does not connect to Internet.

With the WRT54G ver. 6, Firmware Version v1.028.When I ran the android app WiFi Analyzer, I get mixed results.On my Samsung Galaxy S3, I saw my signal on Channel 2, and others around me (two on Channel 6 and two on Channel 11).On my ASUS Transformer Prime TFT201 I see the same signals, but my router signal bounces continously between the baseline (-100dBm?) and about -35dBm.
Plugged in the WRT54G ver. 2, Firmware Version v2.x Channel 8.Hooked it up and got good steady signal strength. It Had 'WPA - Shared Key' but did not have the 'WPA - Personal' that was on the ver. 6. So, I had to go and screw things up. I've upgraded this to Firmware Version: v4.21.5 and guess what? I now have 'WPA - Personal'. I also have a signal is bouncing on BOTH units.
On my ASUS, I can see both routers. The ver. 2 AND the ver. 6 are bouncing between baseline and -35dBm, in unison. Apprently something in the ASUS does not like the later Firmwares.On my Samsung I can see the two signals - the ver. 2 on Channel 8 is stable as a rock and the ver. 6 on Channel 2 is also bouncing, but at a much slower rate! Running Speedtest.net a PC hardwired to the ver. 2 - I get 5.34 Mb/s Download and 0.47 Mb/s upload (yeah, my Internet sucks!) Running Speedtest.net through the ASUS/WiFi to the ver. 2 - I get 2.43 Mb/s Down and 0.65 Mb/s Up.Running Speedtest.net through the Samsung/WiFi to the ver. 2 - I get 5.07 Mb/s Down and 1.07 Mb/s Up.
I was upgrading the firmware of the WRT54G router when the notebook´ screen closed and it went to standby mode. It was stoped the upgrade process.Now only the ports and Internet LEDs light up, but the power LED is off.I also cannot connect to thenavigator for show the administrator´s window. I have also tried to reset the router without any luck. I know it its not the modem that is causing the problem because I'm wired to it now.On the E2000 every light is blinking as it should be (hence the FAQ) so it indicates that there might be a problem with the connection between the router and the computer (tested on other computers too without success).

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy internet cut out last week and after calling my ISP I found out it was in fact my router that was causing the problem (regular connection to PPOE works fine). I've only had my E2000 about 2-3 months and have not had any problems with it. I've restarted the router, done a factory reset, upgraded the firmware, renewed the IP and still I cannot get any connectivity. I can access the router UI fine and I get a response from pinging it and also I have tried replacing the cables but that didn't fix the problem either.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using E2000 currently and meet a wireless connection problem. The speed can up to 300M bps. When I confiured the E2000 to band auto (20-40mhz) and my wireless network card to work at also auto (20-40) mode, it always down to 144M speed when connection.
If I changed some settings in E2000's wireless configuration, in the status sheet I can see it works at 40MHZ. But after a while,(5-10 mins) it automaticly down to 20MHZ and my labtop connect only got a 144M speed.
how can I deal with that to make it always keep at 300M connection? Note the previous router I used to connect to my lattop can always keep that speed.
I have a E2000 router that would go out and I would have to unplug and replug in every once in a while. Finally it just stopped working completely. I reset the router and now it won't let me connect. I have followed advice given to soembody else on here and went into router settings and cloned the mac, the IP address was there and reset my security settings. It worked fine until one day, without any change at all, it simply stoped working. I mean, I can still connect through my wifi laptop connection (it shows connected to my router and says that I have an excelent signal). But, I can't reach the internet. But, If I unplug the internet cable, and plug it in my laptop, the connection works fine. A friend told me that this could be caused intentionally by the internet provider, that they would block my signal to avoid me using a wireless router, trying to force consumers to sign their own wireless service. Thus, by this friend advice, I've cloned my laptop's MAC address to the router. It didn't work either.
I have a Cisco E2000. When i connect to my cable modem directly, I get 30-35 MBps down and about 10 up. When I plug in to my E2000 it does that at first... but slowly over time, the speed degrades, usually down to about 5-6 down and 3-4 up. If I unplug the router, it typically restores full speed, but not for long (a few days maybe). Also, when I unplug the router, it is pretty hot.
