View 2 Replies View RelatedI show up at this business. They have about 40-50 systems. They have a 2003 AD server with a router, and 4 switches. There is also a dvr system on the network for cameras. Each switch is daisy chained together. Everything is working correctly except for the fact that the network drops about 5 times a day. Before they called us, they would just unhook one switch and plug it back in and it would work. At first, we took that switch and exchanged it with another switch in a computer lab to see if just the computer lab goes down. If it did, then that switch was bad. That wasn't the case, the whole network still went down. We had already left, but when we go back, our first choice will to see if there is a loop anywhere within the switch that will flood the network. Then, we were going to see if there was a switch that was getting a lot of traffic on the network to try to track it down. How can u monitor the bandwidth on the switches? They are 24 port switches. The switch is fs750/24 switch.

Since they both connected to the same network, is it possible to use the tv as another screen for the pc?( duplicate the screen, whatever i do on the pc will be shown on the tv screen) I'm installing a software that might stream content from the pc to the tv, but then i'm not hoping too much on it because the tv seems to be very picky about fCPUile formats... so i figured somehow duplicating the screen would be best if all else fails i'll just hook up the CPU to the TV.

I use Cacti as LMS for the graph, in cacti I have the graph for the devices, but in LMS in the Topology Services, the router stay in red and in state Unreachable.Do you know what is the mechanism used by LMS to see the state of a device and which MIB or OID do I have to open on the routers?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently looking for a way to monitor a server's heartbeat, but to be able to inject that information into a router's routing table. I've googled this for a while, and come up with software called 'Quagga' or 'Xorp' which I understand is host-based routing software, but I don't quite understand if these satisfy what I need. Am I barking up the wrong tree or can I do this already with Cisco routers?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn the company I work for, employees' internet traffic is monitored, and if you download too much, you get a warning, and later there might be more serious consequences. But they don't tell how many kilobytes are too much, and they also don't tell, how much of your "kilobyte budget" you have spent already. So I want to be able to monitor my own internet activity. However, all the programs I found so far watch the whole traffic going through the network card, which, beside the internet usage, includes LAN and mail server communication, which don't count. So, I'm looking for a free portable program that can monitor specifically my browser's internet usage, i.e. the number of kilobytes sent and received by the browser application. It is imperative that the program should be portable, or at least installable without administrator privileges, because I don't have that.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe internet connection at our business goes down overnight, every night. We then have to turn off the router and turn it back on. It is not the fault of the ISP, but some setting somewhere, either in the router (SG 310 Snapgear) or in a particular program being accessed each night. Fact is, for the time being we are just trying to find out the precise time when this happens, so we can find out a reason. Is there a utility that can monitor the status and tell you at what exact point it stopped?

View 3 Replies View RelatedISP has recently announced that they are going to start charging $1 for every GB that their customers go over their monthly limit. i have a 100GB/mo package and i figure that's sufficient for my habits which consist of approx 40GB of torrents, a bit of skyping, bit of browsing, etc. my ISP makes usage graphs available online, when i checked earlier last month to confirm i'm staying under my 100GB limit the graphs said over the past 12 months the highest i topped was 90GB, usually in the 70's. pretty much what i expected. but when i check their usage graphs again recently it says i've been using over 400GB for the past 3 months straight (as far back as the new graphs go). i call BS and find it very suspicious that my internet usage magically quadruples the same time my ISP wants to start charging for overusage, especially retro-active.
anyhoo, i want to somehow monitor my internet traffic usage independently but i'm not sure the best way to go about it.my home network is the typical modem -> router -> LAN.my router is a new netgear wndr3700, it has a traffic meter built in, but considering it's only forms of notification is cutting the internet off altogether or changing a green blinking LED to and orange blinking LED when the defined limit is reached, it's kinda useless. i just got it a couple months ago too, so buying a new router with better traffic monitoring isn't an option.i could put a net meter on each and every computer i have, then sum up their usage stats, but that would be a pain in the ass and wouldn't take my PS3 or WDTV media player into account, as little as they're used online.my prefered solution is to use an old laptop i hardly touch anymore and set it up as a gateway and share the internet connection or make it a proxy server. that way i could set up a net meter on just the one NIC on that to track my internet usage. modem -> laptop -> router -> LAN. the problem i have hear is forwarding ports from one NIC to the other so they can then get ditributed by the router, never tried this before, not sure how to go about it. right now it has XP home, but i can put 7 on it if that's better to work with.
