Windows 7 Can See Wireless Networks But Can't Connect

Jul 19, 2012

I'm using Windows 7, and when I lived at my house I was able to connect to wireless networks without a problem. I just moved today into my brother's old apartment and for some reason I can't connect to his wireless network. I can see it along with a number of other wireless networks, but I'm unable to connect to any of them. When I attempt to connect to a network absolutely nothing happens. Typically at the bottom right corner of my screen something will pop up saying it's trying to connect, but for some reason that isn't popping up. I know it's not a problem with the router because I'm unable to connect to any of the networks, and I also had no trouble when I tried to connect to it with my laptop.

Windows XP Not Showing Available Wireless Networks?

Dec 29, 2012

Windows XP on an older Dell Latitude. All wireless settings appear to be on, yet "no wireless networks are found in range" All other devices in the house see the same 3 networks (mine, mifi, and next door), so this is specific to this machine.

Also, I normally keep this laptop docked, 95% of the time, and earlier in the week disabled the wireless (right click on icon, disable) as I normally do when connected to the dock, since it seems to perform faster (no testing, just my opinion)

Other factors: The computer got undocked without normal undock procedure taking place.

Don't know if this is related, but the sound wasn't working either the last few days I have redocked, rebooted, restarted, checked every possible config I can think of, checked the router to be sure that my device was still listed, etc.

Windows Vista - Unhide Available Wireless Networks?

Jan 17, 2012

I am using Windows Vista.I work in a small office and our old computer guy set up our network. Not sure why, but he "hid" the two available wireless networks so they do not show up as available. How do I go about "unhiding" them? He left a folder on my computer that says "main router config" but it is a .bin file and I cannot open it. I did find out what our IP address is, but when I type it in the URL it does not show up.

Windows 7 - Can't Detect Any Wireless Networks / Restored To Factory Settings

Sep 20, 2012

A few hours ago, I just restored my laptop to factory settings. Once it was done, I tried connecting to the internet but the computer could not detect ANY wireless networks!I already know it is not the modem or router because I have a Macbook Pro and two HP laptops that connect perfectly fine to the modem. I also made sure the wireless is on. The laptop with the problem is a Toshiba Satellite l645. It's running on a 64-bit Windows 7. When I try to look up wireless networks, it only shows 'MOBILE BROADBAND CONNECTION".

Linksys Wireless Adapters :: WMP54GS / Windows Cannot Find Any Additional Networks

Apr 22, 2009

So I recently took the WMP54GS ver 1.1 wireless adapter out of my old XP computer and put it in my new Vista 64bit computer.  I successfully installed the adapter, downloaded the drivers (WMP54GS-v1.1_v4.102.15.53_Vista_dr), and unzipped them on my C drive to their Linksys Driver folder.  When I go to find available networks it says "Windows cannot find any additional networks," and when I try to set up a wireless network it shows a blank window and says "an unexpected error has occurred."  I can see the adapter in the device manager, so it obviously installed correctly.

How To Connect To 2 Networks On Windows 7

Oct 31, 2011

I use multiple computers in my house, I was just wondering, how would I go about connecting to 2 different networks on Windows 7 simultaneously?I have a router/modem downstairs which is connected to the internet & all of our computers, and I also have a modem/router in my bedroom that isn't connected to the internet, but I'd like to use it to share files and other things throughout my house.I've quite easily managed to connect to both networks at the same time, but as soon I connect to the wired network (the one without internet connection) I lose connection to the internet, even though I'm still connected to the wireless network which is connected to the internet.I've read a few different articles and posts about this same issue, but I can't find how to be connected to both & still have a connection.

Can't Connect To Available Networks With Laptop On Windows 8

Mar 26, 2013

I have the wireless switch turned on and the wireless router is set up correctly - I know the network name, encryption & password. The same setup has worked fine before, but now the laptop isn't letting me connect to it, or even try to connect to it.The internet works perfectly if I connect the ethernet cable directly; and I can bring up the wireless router's settings with 192.168.1.1; but the internet doesn't work when I remove the cable. I looked on google to try and find the method of bringing up the available networks, but it won't work for me. When I hover the cursor over the icon on the taskbar, it says "not connected - connections are available", but nothing happens when I click on it. I tried moving the cursor to the bottom-right corner of the screen, clicking on Settings, and clicking on the network icon with "Available" written underneath it, but again nothing happens.

I've also tried this:

-right-clicked network icon on taskbar, opened Network and Sharing Center

-clicked Set Up a Connection or Network

-clicked Connect to the Internet - nothing happens and the window crashes, I have to CTRL+ALT+DELETE->task manager->restart Windows Explorer

-clicked Manually Connect to a Wireless Network - I enter the details of the wireless network, then it says that the network already exists; I choose to Use the existing network, open the "connect to a network" dialog so I can connect, but then nothing happens. It doesn't crash this time though.

Servers :: Windows 2008 Domain Splintered Into 2 Networks

Aug 2, 2012

I have a network domain with 2 domain controllers running windows server 2008. At some point the DNS name for one of the servers got messed up and they stopped talking to each other even though they are on fixed IPs. The DNS problem has been fixed, but they haven't started communicating again. While the DNS was messed up the domain controllers kept running a different copy of the network. The DFS stopped replicating, the users lists fragmented and the network separated into two "shadow domains" with the same name. DC1 says it is healthy, but it claims DC2 is offline. DC2 claims it is healthy but DC1 is offline. I don't even know where to begin repairing this rift.

Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 Cannot Find Any Networks

Sep 13, 2011

I am running 32 bit Vista Home Basic SP1.I cannot get online. When I hover the mouse over the network icon in the notification area, it reads, "Connection status unknown. The dependency service or group failed to start". When I try to diagnose the problem, I can't because the Diagnostics Policy Service is not running. When I try to Start the service, access is denied (Error 5). Same scenario for the service DHCP Client. When I click on Start/Connect To - I get the msg Windows Cannot Find Any Networks Meanwhile, I keep getting warnings that my firewall is not enabled. When I try to enable it, I get a message that the Security Center can't turn it on.

Windows Firewall is not listed in services.msc.I ran a full Malwarebytes scan and it found nothing wrong. I did a system restore to several days before the problem, but even though the restore completed successfully, it didn't change my (non)results. The Network and Sharing Center does not display the familiar PC monitor icon with a line to the Network and another line going from the Network to the Internet. Instead it just has the word Unknown with the caption the depencency or groiup failed to start I have heard that this might be due to a permissions issue, but when I use regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServices and right click on Dhcp, select Permissions, I get an error when I try to add anything (either Local Service or Network Service).

The msg is c:Windowssystem32adsldp.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again..I have run sfc /scannow as well as chkdsk /f. Scannow reported that it found some problems but was unable to fix all of them. Chkdsk found and corrected about 10 errors, but neither of these programs worked with the issue.Additionally I have downloaded and installed Process Monitor on the PC, but the amount of information displayed is overwhelming, and I'm not sure what to check. Every time I try to start DHCP I get about 200 lines of info on the screen.

When I open a command prompt and run ipconfig /all, I get that DHCP is running, although it is not. I get the bogus ip address of 169.254.... I get a default gateway of zeroes. Is it possible that this behavior could simply be the result of a bad NIC card? Can I possibly run an in-place upgrade from Vista Home Basic to Vista Home Premium? If it's a Dell PC and I have the Dell Premium CD will it ask me for the product key? If so, will the key on the Basic PC work?

Unable To Find Wifi Networks On Windows 7 Acer 3810t

May 9, 2011

I have an Acer 3810T laptop and am running Windows 7 on it.The problem I've had is my WiFi has been unstable. For example for 5 minutes or sometimes up to an hour I can easily find wifi networks in range of my laptop but then out of nowhere it disappears and I don't find any networks but any other WiFi device will find my router so I know it's laptop related.I did some research on Google and found out this is an issue others have had with Windows 7 and it seems to be something to do with when updates are installed. I followed the advice to remove my WiFi drivers and reinstall them so I downloaded a file for the Intel drivers from Acer's website. I went into Control Panel and removed 2 devices that were related to WiFi. I then did a scan for hardware and found one wifi device, an Intel WiFI Link 5100AGN. I installed the driver for this one. The problem is I know I removed two and this is the only one the scan found and I can't remember the name of the other wifi device/driver I removed.Unfortunately ever since I did this my WiFi isn't working. In the control panel it shows all drivers are installed and working but when I click on the bars at the bottom of my screen no wifi networks show. I have tried going into the Network and Sharing Center and for example I select set up a connection or network and when I select Manually Connect to a wireless network it states "An Unexpected Error Occured" so I know something is missing that's allowing the WiFI to work.

Dell :: Inspiron 1520 Not Detecting Wi-Fi Networks After Installing Windows 7

WiFI networks could be detected when installed for the first time but after a shutdown it never detects again. Sometimes it randomly detects, I tried using the laptop for 2 weeks now and only 2 times the WiFI automatically came up.

There is a switch to pull after turning on WiFI radio, which will display the list of WiFi networks in a window, that Switch is not responding now.
