Not Receiving Enough Network Packets To Surf Web?
Apr 7, 2011
I have a Asus EEE PC 900 laptop running Windows XP Home. I DO NOT use a modem or router. I connect wireless to someones network (which of course i dont know who it is or how far it is from me) I connect to a Linksys unsecured network. I get good to very good (some times excellent connection from it) The name of my adapter is: Atheros AR5007EG wireless network adapter. Two days ago i was on the internet, and all of a sudden i Lost service ( usually when this happens i wait it out and it comes back)But it hasn't.So I'm checking through my settings and i noticed that im sending way more network packets than receiving. Last i checked it was around 40,000 sent and 5 received. So I wait and wait and wait and the most packets it would go up to is 90 while as sending is still in the thousands. It also says im successfully connected with good to very good connection status (but yet i cannot surf the web because i do not have enough network packets)
I tried different locations in my house (that didnt work)I uninstall and reinstalled my network adaptor (that didnt work)I turned off and on the wireless switch(that didn't work). Im wondering if this has something to do with my laptop or the other persons network? how can I increase the received network packets?

Our computer is sending but not receiving packets. We've tried 3 different wi-fi adapters, and that wasn't the problem. We have no idea what's wrong? It won't pick up any wireless signals by the way, and it works fine while connected via Ethernet.

I have a home network that does not connect to the internet, but which I use to play games on, or did before this issue happened by.For years my PC's and friends ones had been able to connect into the network with little or no problems, but a few months ago my tower PC just stopped picking anybody or anything up on the network and I have tried tons of different resolutions to solve this.Anyway, the other day I bought a new HD and installed XP SP3 again on it, and for about fifteen minutes I could connect to my Vista Laptop and share files and play games, then it stopped.Next day the same again and off and on till now when its been down for the last week.I have also now bought a new network card - no difference - and disabled the on board network card through the BIOS - no difference.I have done a Winsock repair, replaced automatic IP addresses with manual ones, and countless other remedies which have not solved diddly.

I recently moved house and got a new ISP. I followed their instructions and set up my broadband. connection is working fine through the LAN, and I can connect to the wifi on my phone but when I try to connect my laptop via wifi it says it's connected but I can't access the internet and it looks like it's sending packets but not receiving.

Everything is fine except that whenever I am receiving packets, there is a corresponding upstream of packets which is subsequently slowing my download speed.I should be getting ~600kbps, but I am instead getting ~200kbps.The ratio of packets sent/received is almost 1:1.5, and of course when your upload bandwidth is being maxed it starts cutting your download speed.

A specific switch port which happens to be part of a 2 switch 3750 Switch Stack is seeing multiple CDP packets from 3 extra switch port interfaces that are not directly connected. Noteworthy is that the far end devices have the correct CDP entries and I physically confirmed at least two of those connections that lead to the switch "upstream to the culprit switch". Tricky part is that its production so room for maneuvering is limited. At some point I disabled all Ports save for the real uplink and the problem momentarily disappeared. Re-enable the interfaces problem resurfaces. Is there an explanation, technique to eliminate the culprit with minimal disruption?

I recent bought an Asus G74SX-A1. While the machine runs like an absolute dream, it does seem to have a networking problem that I have been attempting to address for about a week. In my college dorm there is an ethernet port that carries an active internet connection. When my laptop is plugged into the port via ethernet, I receive no connection (well mostly no connection, every now and then I will connect for a split second allowing me to load my homepage, Google). This problem also exists on my dorm's WiFi. My LAN card is a RealTek BGE Family Controller (PCIe)
However, on my netbook (an Asus 1000HE, which I am typing this post on) everything is fine. I am quick to blame the retailer who sold me the G74SX seeing as they replaced the stock WiFi card with a Bigfoot Killer 1102 card, and my first assumption is that something was not installed properly during my laptop's assembly or that I simply messed up a driver update. I became quite frustrated with the whole situation and in order to find a quick solution I formatted the laptop back to factory defaults.
Something magical happened. For about a day and a half, my LAN card worked. I packed up my gear this weekend and headed back home, and at my parents' house my WiFi card worked wonderfully.I thought my networking woes were behind me, but this was not the case. When I returned to my dorm this afternoon, my LAN and WiFi cards began experiencing the same problems they experienced before the reformat. A third variable of some interest is that I brought my wireless router back to my dorm in order to utilize a less-crowded private WiFi spot and discovered that it worked fine and I was able to connect to the internet on my iPad using my router. This evening, however, my router decided to stop carrying an internet connection as well. I can connect to the router itself, but I cannot receive an internet connection, even on the netbook.
I have tried uninstalling/updating drivers for both the Bigfoot card and the RealTek card to no avail. My best hypothesis is that the problem lies in some setting that both the G74SX and the D-Link DIR-655 have in common, seeing as they are the only wired components that aren't receiving a connection.
Equipment: D-Link DIR-655, Asus G74SX, Asus EeePC 1000HE

During the last month or so my internet connection keeps stalling and will not work until I repair the connection, however I am still connected to the network, I just can't send or receive packets. In particular when I am downloading things, it will stop after 2MB is downloaded or 300MB, it just random. After sending/receiving 7,000 packets or 700,00. This only happens to my computer with the wifi adapter. Prior to this I didn't have any issues for over two years. My phone and laptop still connect via wifi to the internet. And the xbox and blu ray player are connected via ethernet and have not had any problems. The log for my router states "deauthenticate reason 3", which I have found to mean "The access point went offline, deauthenticating the client". So, I figured that the issue could be the wifi adapter which I installed on the laptop and that too never had an issue. I used inSSIDer 2.0 to see the close by networks and changed channels to get away from the strongest ones. I tried switching to wireless n only instead of g and n, the problem still persists.
Then I figured the issue must be my computer and no malware, spyware, adware nor any virus was found. The same thing happened while in safe mode. I also tried the winsock fix to no avail, reinstalled the wifi adapter and made sure all firmware for the router and adapter were up to date as well as XP. I also tried with my firewall shutdown but I still loose the connection. So I then reluctantly did a clean install and even with the bare essentials it still stopped working. I also bought a 15ft USB extension to get a better signal but still, even though I have a good or excellent signal I still have problems. My latest thought was this was the only machine running firefox 4 so I went back to 3 and that didn't either. I checked my usage with my ISP and I am no where near the 250GB a month.

I'm new to IT, and have been put in charge of managing our servers hile my boss is on vacation. We currently have a Sonicwall Network Security Appliance that handles our Firewall/VPN and have web content filtering set in place.I have a user who belongs to 2 CFS policy groups that we have set up. I've double checked with Active Directory, and he is a member of both groups.
This person SHOULD have access to Job searches/ and Restaurants, but receives a "content blocked" message on his browser. It appears to me that the settings in Sonicwall are correct, as well with AD member groups.

If I look at a site like wikipedia for example ,it has lots of text. If I capture those packets which made up that page using wireshark I cant find that text anywhere no matter what filter I use and even though I turn on ASCII. Is it because text is being rendered unreadable by some kind of compression?

I can't connect to the internet. When I double click Local Area Network under Network connections it says it has both sent and received packets. It is set to automatically acquire an ip address. The computer is connected to a router. I can ping 192.168.1.1 but when I try to reach my router's settings it says page can't be loaded. I tried to hook the computer up directly to the modem and connect that way. It said it was connected and it was sending packets but I still couldn't do anything. I've turned off the windows firewall. The computer is Windows XP SP1

I woke up this morning to find that I cannot surf the web anymore. I was able to last night just fine. My set up is this: Verizon Fios router(192.168.1.1)> Netgear gigabit switch> SMC router smcwbr14s-n3 (192.168.1.201) the Fios router is has a build in wireless but is in another building and i am not within range of it. I have a cat 5 cable that run between 2 house's... the cable comes into my house and into my switch then to my SMC router (smcwbr14s-n3 ) that is running in bridged mode to function as an AP. I can connect to a lan port on the switch or router and connect to the web (im currently in a lan port now.) Here's the thing, I can still connect to the wireless, it's just so slow (1Mbs -6Mbs)that i am unable to get anywhere... I do have security setup (WPA2) an im going to kill that to see if it resolves the issue... but it has been working fine with the current security setting for the last 5 months, so i dont really thing that is the issue.
