View 2 RepliesI just moved offices to one where there is only one phone line - its an ethernet socket. I use the room two days a week, the other guy uses it on the other days. his computer is already plugged into it, how would I be able to switch wires when I'm in there - the yellow cable I have is too short to reach. What would I need to buy and is there something that I can put in the socket to connect both wires so I don't have to keep getting on my knees

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a network set up currently with a cable modem that goes into a router, the router then goes to a 16 port switch and the switch goes to computers, printers, and my server. I am trying to figure out how to make the modem plug into the switch instead of the router. I'm guessing my problem lies with the default gateway since that is the router. Any suggestions on this? Or how is the best way to set this up? I have 2 NICs on my server and the server has windows 2008 r2.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just ran Cat6 from my WNDR3700 to a netgear NeoTV550. WNDR is in the computer room and the Neo is in the living room. Cat6 had to be fished downstairs, around the bathroom wall and over the solid plaster ceiling. Fun times! My question is, should I add a switch to the connection on the far end, essentially creating a trunk sans dot1.q tagging and then plug the Neo in? Or should I just plug directly into the Neo?

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe put an addition onto our house about 7 years ago and ran Cat5 throughout it. Now when I talked to the electrician about how to route our internet through it, he said the Cat5 with RJ45 connectors was set-up for phone, not internet. I was looking around the house and could not find a rack or central location to plug a modem into. We have RJ11 ports in each of the wall sockets so I am slightly confused. Is there a way to switch these connectors over to use for internet instead of phone? How would I hook up my modem to these ethernet ports? My plan would be to hook up two wireless routers from these ethernet ports. This problem comes to be because our house is solid plaster walls covered with bookshelves and the router (a nice wireless-n) does not even penetrate half the house.

im having this strange issue where everytime i plug in a voip phone to my 3550 the switch disconnects another voip phone.then to fix the disconnected phone (7940) i need to power off the phone 5-10 minutes then power it on again.
but the strange thing is, once i have to do that to fix the phone and connect the phone back to the switch, the port link is up, but no macs are seen on that port.
Since Avaya phones do not run CDP, how does the phone know which DHCP pool to pull from to get its IP address if the PC is connected to the phone.
Let's say I have a interface config like this
interface gigabitethernet1/0/1
cisco3750(config-if)#switchport mode trunk
cisco3750(config-if)#switchport access vlan 126
[code]....
And two DHCP scopes configured on the switch. What keeps the phone from pulling from the wrong scope?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI wasn't smart enough to get a computer with wireless built in, so now I need to add a wireless card. I purchased one from walmart (yeah I know gotta get away from Wally world) url...Then I discover that the only Expansion Slots are;
-1 PCI Express x16 slot for graphics card
-3 PCI Express x1 slots
-1 PCI Express x1 minicard slot
Is there an adapter that will allow me to plug in the wireless card I have into one of the slots available?
My laptop runs fine with a wireless connection (lynksys router) but when I plug in the LAN it becomes unstable and eventualy freezes all together. I have tried bypassing the router and going straight from the modem (ADSL) with the same result. I have disabled all network connections and started a new one and I managed to get a days work out of it before the problem came back. The connection seems to be ok some times as long as there are no major demands put on it (but freezes as soon as you step it up a bit) and other times it freezes before windows even loads.

View 4 Replies View RelatedTo go deeper on this issue, the only times I get no internet access (even though I have a good signal (wifi) and is connected to the dsl/modem/router combination) is when I plug something on the USB 3.0 (like my usb 3.0 external hard drive). I tried connecting it on other ports (usb 2.0) and it works perfectly, I don't get internet timed out and basically the internet is working.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically I bought two ethernet adapters from amazon and have connected them up properly to the router and my laptop through my homes plugs. For some reason my laptop cannot pick up any internet signal from them displaying 'no network access'. When I've run the troubleshoot it occasionally will say that the IP address is not valid. I've tried a variety of different settings but cannot seem to get it to work.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAll wires terminate in the basement as a RJ-45 plug, to be plugged into a switch housed in an old circuit breaker box. The first wire went off without a hitch, the jack works, the plug works, all is right with the world. The router for the home is currently plugged into that outlet so as to give the entire network as we build it internet. The second outlet is giving us problems though. I've fished the wire up the wall as before, and the length of wire is shorter than the first run. When I terminate the end upstairs as a jack, then plug in my laptop, it refuses to connect. It says the network cable is unplugged. If I terminate the cable as a plug, then plug it directly into the laptop, suddenly everything works. I have tried so far 3 different jacks, tested continuity on the jacks, and tested continuity on the wire to the jack pins to make sure the terminal block was working and everything came back green

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just replaced my DIR-655 with a DHP-1320 since the constant microwave usage in our house whacks out our wireless during breakfast and dinner time. Now the PCs on the other side of the house are connected over a Home-Plug network. Is there a way to connect the DIR-655 to one of the Home-Plug ports on the distant side of the house to "extend" the wireless coverage there for our laptops? Presume this is a different scenario than creating a "bridge", "access point", or "extender" since the router would be connected back via Ethernet cable. There may be some overlap too in wireless coverage around the middle of the house. Ideally I'd like to use the same SSID.Has this ever been done before? What would I need to reconfigure on the DIR-655?
