To go deeper on this issue, the only times I get no internet access (even though I have a good signal (wifi) and is connected to the dsl/modem/router combination) is when I plug something on the USB 3.0 (like my usb 3.0 external hard drive). I tried connecting it on other ports (usb 2.0) and it works perfectly, I don't get internet timed out and basically the internet is working.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have dimension 8100 with windows ME. turned off the integrated NIC because it stopped working and installed a d-link nic card a while ago. d-link worked poorly, so I connected my cable modem with USB. This worked well. Now I just bought a Dell laptop and router. The router needs to be connected to the desktop via the nic card for both desktop and laptop to work thru the router. I attempted to see if I could get the integrated card working. I entered setup and put the setting to ON for the integrated NIC card. I save and exited and the screen went black and stated "Plug and Play Configuration Error" 3x's. I rebooted and hit F2 to get into setup, but it won't let me and just goes right to the "plug and play configuration error" 3x's....

Cable company has been out several times, changed modem, etc. Now hooked up straight to cable with no router, working fine so far, but no wifi , kicks off when router is connected. My internet connection goes up and down. After further investigation, I've noticed that as soon as i receive a certain # of packets, the internet connection goes down. It may be a process or application that is taking away these packets.

The set up works fine most of the time, but at times all the computers connected lose internet connection. The ISP says everything is fine from their end, and locally we are all connected to the wireless router just fine when this happens. I usually just unplug the modem and the wireless router from their power, in order to reset everything, and this seems to solve it.

One of the laptops is running XP and after 5-10 minutes of surfing, the internet stops working while all the other computers retain a good internet connection. Repairing the connection via the taskbar icon fixes it temporarily until the issue reoccurs.

Also live in an old house with thick walls so the family are always complaining about the poor wireless connection.So I bought a new router, netgear DGN3500, which on the whole seemed pretty good out of the box, but now it is randomly dropping the internet connection. Sometimes this is solved by rebooting the router, but just now this didn't do it and only turning it off completely for 30" and turning it back on again gave me back my connection (DownStream Connection Speed 3680 kbps, UpStream Connection Speed 416 kbps - which is as good as it gets on the end of my phone line).
View 12 Replies View RelatedRev B, recently updated firmware to 2.10NA hoping to resolve the problem.WIFI is disabled.DHCP is disabled (I run a SBS 2008 server, but for testing i static ally assigned IP info on my test PC and disconnected all other systems including the server).Before updating the firmware, the router would hang for a couple minutes and then be OK for some random period, usually more than a few hours. After updating and resetting to factory defaults, I'm now lucky to get ten minutes of service before it hangs. The "globe" light goes out, blinks yellow and then within 20 seconds or so, goes out for good. At that point I can't even connect to the router's admin login page. I either have to power cycle the router OR the cable modem. I have confirmed it's the 655 by reconnecting my old (and I guess more trusty Linksys WRT54G. Same settings, same WAN MAC and WAN IP, no problems after many hours.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI had an experience this week of installing a 5510 ASA with 8.4.3, also tried 8.4.4(1) with the strange effect that I randomly was losing contact with the internet. The interface stayed up/up. no errors or what so ever on the interface. Reseat of the DSL wire no result. Reseat of the outside interface cable made it work again. And after some time lost connectivity again. It did not recover by itself so had to let someone do a reseat again and again and.... The outside was using DHCP client. A lease was given and an IP also. Nothing strange to find. Talked to the provider which could see the DSL and the DHCP lease. Finally I downgraded the firmware to 8.4.2 and the problem was solved.

I have a Cisco 881 Router connected to cable modem. The router is running IOS 15.1.
I have it configured exactly the same way as an 877 router running IOS 12.1 which does not exhibit the problem. Just a standard LAN/WAN config with basic routing/firewall.
When the internet connection is lost for any reason and then re-established the router will no longer pass internet traffic unless I reboot the router.
I used Cisco Configuration Professional to configure the router. The key setting seems to be the Router Static Route. We have a static IP and I set static route with the "make this the default route" checked. Then I set forward (next hop) to the IP my ISP gave me as their gateway.
This is exactly the same way I set the 877 router using the same ISP but in a different office.
Every so often the internet is lost due to power outage or the ISP doing something on their end and every time that happens we have to reboot the router which is quite annoying.
I did not have the "permanent route" check mark checked but I do not have it checked on the router that does not have the problem either so I don't think that's it.
When I set the static route to "interface" then added the static IP of the next hop it will continue to work for incoming connections but not outgoing.
I have an N300 router, and I'm having some connection issues. At least once a day I randomly lose connection. This is frustrating because I like to watch videos online and play games online, and randomly disconnecting right in the middle of a game with other people is not fun.

Checked Ping on Yahoo & google with -t option and found few ping response and then a lot of request time outs.
I am sure you must be doubting the signal strength of Wi-Fi but I can confirm the signal strength was fine. In fact I performed ping test simultaneously on another laptop . The performance on other laptop was fine but on Inspirion N5040 I was finding too many Ping drops and was not able to browse properly.
I also, verified setting on Wireless adapter and found it is in DHCP.
Internet connectivity on my laptop is lost shortly after beginning to upload/download files over the internet to my cloud storage provider. I also lose connectivity when transferring files to or from the laptop within my LAN to a desktop computer connected via wireless router as part of a workgroup. Connectivity is only restored once I restart the laptop or uninstall, then reinstall drivers for my wireless network card. The issue then reoccurs once file transfers begin again.The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. The driver for my Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN internal network adapter are up to date. I have a Linksys WRT610N ver.2 router, and an HP Pavilion dv6500 laptop.

Initially I thought it might be something with Comcast, but a) I never had the problem with my Linksys WRT54G router and b) It seems I can now duplicate the issue by saving a config file and restoring it.The specific issue appears to be somewhat random. At some point the connection to the Internet simply stops for no apparent reason. I am able to ping the router and connect to it. I am also able to drop and renew connections to the cable modem successfully. Furthermore, I can ping my network side of the router, as well as the external address handed to my router by the cable modem, and the cable modem gateway address, but still no connection to the Internet.The only solution to my problem has been to restore the factory defaults to the router and reconfigure it from scratch, which does seem to fix the issue for a time until it occurs again. FYI, I do not use the Cisco connect software because I have several custom port and QOS configs that are necessary for an IP Phone and other hardware on my network.

I recently replaced an old Linksys with a Cisco E3200. All our devices get "stuck" periodically and can connect to the E3200 but not the internet. We power cycle the E3200 and all is fine. But only for a period of time, then we need to power cycle again. The range is less than my 4 year old Linksys was also, devices maybe 30 feet lose their connection even more quickly, forcing more frequent power cycling.

My laptop runs fine with a wireless connection (lynksys router) but when I plug in the LAN it becomes unstable and eventualy freezes all together. I have tried bypassing the router and going straight from the modem (ADSL) with the same result. I have disabled all network connections and started a new one and I managed to get a days work out of it before the problem came back. The connection seems to be ok some times as long as there are no major demands put on it (but freezes as soon as you step it up a bit) and other times it freezes before windows even loads.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAll wires terminate in the basement as a RJ-45 plug, to be plugged into a switch housed in an old circuit breaker box. The first wire went off without a hitch, the jack works, the plug works, all is right with the world. The router for the home is currently plugged into that outlet so as to give the entire network as we build it internet. The second outlet is giving us problems though. I've fished the wire up the wall as before, and the length of wire is shorter than the first run. When I terminate the end upstairs as a jack, then plug in my laptop, it refuses to connect. It says the network cable is unplugged. If I terminate the cable as a plug, then plug it directly into the laptop, suddenly everything works. I have tried so far 3 different jacks, tested continuity on the jacks, and tested continuity on the wire to the jack pins to make sure the terminal block was working and everything came back green

I am trying to figure out how to make the modem plug into the switch instead of the router. I'm guessing my problem lies with the default gateway since that is the router. Any suggestions on this?
