Protocols / Routing :: Opening Port 80 For WAN Access To Localhost?

Dec 22, 2012

So I am working on a website with MySQL/PHP that I have been developing on my Linux box. I wanted to show a friend my progress so I temporarily opened up port 80. So he was able to just type in my public IP and it brought him to my localhost index.

My question is, when I type in my IP address in the URL bar, does the web browser automatically just assume port 80? What happens if I want to have 2 different servers from the same local network and one is running through port 80 and the other is running through port 90? In this case, would I have to type ":90" to access the machine running on port 90?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G2 - Port Forwarding Not Opening Ports?

Nov 20, 2011

I have a cable modem hooked up to a Linksys WRT54G2 wireless router, which is hardwired to the computer I use.

I go into the router's menu by going through the standard 192.168.1.1 in the browser, and then go to Applications and Gaming. The port I am trying to open is port 25565 for both TCP and UDP. In the Start and End ports I put 25565, and for the end of the IP Address, I put the last digits of my IPv4 address (10). I used a couple of port checker tools, and it is reporting as still being closed.

Protocols / Routing :: Port Forwarding Ranges On Cisco Rv180w Router?

Aug 13, 2012

I'm just setting up a Cisco rv180w router to replace our aging Belkin. I need to allow a range of ports through the firewall to a particular PC on our internal network that runs our VOIP/SIP Trunk phone system.

The Cisco's Port Forwarding looks like it can only forward one port at a time, but for our phones I need to allow a full range of ports (in this case ports 49152-64512) to one machine at 192.168.x.xx.

On the Belkin I used something called 'Virtual Servers' which allows you to enter ranges of ports. Anybody know what the equivalent might be for the Cisco router?

Opening A Port On Router

Mar 3, 2011

I want to open a certain port on my router and I know it shouldnt be a problem, just go inside of your router settings and add the port manually. But somehow I was enough smart to forget my routers username and password, now my question is my only option a hard reset of the router and deleting all the work I put in to connecting the two computers with my router (believe me I had my share of troubles connecting them with the router) or is there a way to open the port on the router from my computer without accessing my router settings.

Netgear Rangemax Wpn824 - Randomly Cannot Connect To Wireless Router?

Oct 22, 2011

I am using a Netgear Rangemax Wpn824 with comcast cable internet. This problem happened also on an older router but less frequent with this one.

I don't know if this is a common problem but I cannot seem to find it on the web and thought I would ask here. The problem seems to only happen after someone restarts their computer.

What happens is 9/10 times on startup the internet will connect just fine but the 10% of the time it will say "Unable to connect to Shaun" (my wireless router) Sometimes if we restart the computer it will fix itself but usually we have to reset the router and it will fix itself and wont happen again for another couple of weeks.

I called comcast about it and their tech support said it was a router issue, that's when I put in my newer one (the rangemax) and its still happening. We even upgraded the comcast modem recently too, and since it fixes itself when I reset the router I don't doubt its the router.

I can't seem to update the firmware on it, not sure if that will work. (It says not enough memory to complete) Should I buy a new router?

Protocols / Routing :: Port Forwarding Through 2 Routers?

Jun 16, 2012

I am trying to port forward for Vuze and I am having a problem understanding the concepts at [URL] for working within two routers. I have a Zoom 5241 cable modem connected through a Motorola VT2442-VD for Vonage VOIP, then connected through my Netgear RangeMax WPN824v3 wireless router, to my computer. I am also running AVG internet security. Here is a look at my ipconfig /all:

C:Users
ex>ipconfig /all
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : MarekFamily
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

[code]....

However, I do not understand where to setup the static ips and where to drop DHCP to be able to port forward successfully. I have tried in Vuze to set up acceptable ports 51600 for TCP and UDP, but they continue to get this error: "NAT Error - Connect attempt to 67.60.124.173:51600 (your computer) timed out after 20 seconds. This means your port is probably closed." I do know that the Ip present is from my Vonage with my external IP address. I even tried to establish rules for TCP and UDP within AVG Firewall settings for the Vuze program.

UDP Ports: 3478, 3479, 3658, and 10070,
When you want to open new ports on the BT HomeHub you have to fill out this form, and I don't know whereabouts I enter these ports I've been given.

Protocols / Routing :: SIP Trunk Port Range (VOIP)

Aug 14, 2012

I've recently set up a PC-based IP PBX in our small business which uses a SIP Trunk for up to 3 simultaneous voice calls. Ports needed to operate include 5060 (SIP-UDP) and then a huge range of high-number UDP ports which I believe is for the 'media' or audio. Let's call the range UDP 49,152 to 64,512. I only know a little about the SIP protocol but my understanding is that each call will randomly use a few ports from this range across which will pass audio, Is there a need to have such a wide range of ports open? If my SIP trunk is only capable of 3 simultaneous calls then it seems only 9 or so of those open ports could get used at once. Could I not just open, say a range of 100 ports and be fine, thereby reducing the security risk?

Protocols / Routing :: Port Forwarding 25565 Fails?

May 13, 2012

At first I tried to port forward 25565 on my D-Link Router account, but that didn't work for anyone trying to connect through the External IP.

People can connect locally over my network and I can connect to the game via localhost, but like I said, no friends from abroad.

I've checked my External IP and that doesn't work, I've tried resetting my router to factory default and then reinstalling the firmware for the model, that didn't work. I tried removing the firewall altogether, and also just allowing 25565, but that didn't work. I also got my friend to take their firewall off as well.

(Also, it should be known, when I'm port forwarding I'm allowing access, and have 25565 set in both TCP and UDP. I tested to see if the port was open on Open Port Check Tool, but it said it was closed (connection timed out) even though I had it forwarded)

I phoned up BT and to my absolute disgust, nobody there knew how to use the homehub, or simply said 'turn off the firewall'.

Protocols / Routing :: Port Forwarding TP-Link TD-W8970?

Jan 19, 2013

Router Model: TP-Link TD-W8970 port forwarding my modem/router. I previously was able to successfully port forward a Valve Source Server and had other people join on the internet so...(It worked) I recently reformatted and since have had issues.

I'm currently setup with PPPOA and I've added various ports for different programs (a Teamspeak 3 Server[9987] and Minecraft[25565]) either dont work. I used a port checker program and they either say the port is closed or the connection is refused...I've tried using a static IP but I think i configured it wrong becuase i was barely able to get the internet while using it, either way..the ports didn't open.

DCHP is disabled (Tried enabling, didn't work) The above ports are enabled with Windows firewall (inbound+outbound) and Im not using any Anti-virus software to block the ports. Windows 7 64bit, fresh format and ports that wont go through.

Protocols / Routing :: Port-forwarding - Linking Back To Network URL?

Jun 30, 2012

I have set up port forwarding for my WD Network HDD, which runs a Media Server (Twonky). Now, I have tested the ports and accessed it through the internet and it works fine, until... I click a link to open a folder and suddenly I get a "No such page" error thing. I have however identified this problem, it seems that when I go off the main page it re-routes to the original network address, not my IP forward address. For Example if my IP was 82.9.12.456 and the port was 800 i would go to "82.9.12.456:800" and it would load but once I navigate i go to "192.168.0.*:800/*****" and does not load the page. If i then copy and past my IP into the URL it works, but this is annoying.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X Port Channel Load Balancing Protocols

Jan 15, 2012

What I am attempting to achieve is to aggregate trunk ports out of a VMware server into a single logical connection to give as much bandwidth as possible, the switches are 3750X and are three stacked together with the server connections spread across the stack. What I am not sure about is if two port channel load balance protocols can happy co-exist on the switch, by default the switch is using MAC address load balancing and Vmware wants to use IP Source load balancing. As other trunks and channels exist on the switch I don't want to make a change that will affect the other live connections if changing this is a global setting and not local on the channel.

Web Interfaces Not Opening Even After Port Forwarding Is Said To Be Working?

Jun 23, 2011

I have a DSL modem (custom made and branded by my ISP) which is receiving a DSL stream... it has an external IP which is visible to the world, say, 11.22.33.44 ... This modem has DHCP enabled, has an internal IP for itself, which is 192.168.1.1 .. it is connected to 2 laptops via and ethernet cable .. Laptop 1 has IP 192.168.1.2, and Laptop 2 has IP 192.168.1.3 ...On Laptop 1, two applications are running, jDownloader and Media Player Classic, which have their web interfaces on ports 8765 and 13579,respectively.. I can access both of these web interfaces from Laptop 2 by opening these addresses: 192.1681.2:8765 and 192.168.1.2:13579 ... both of their web interfaces open up, meaning the web interfaces are working fine ..Moving on, I now want to access these web interfaces from outside my network as well, and so I've configured port forwarding in my DSL modem to forward all traffic on ports between 8000 and 14000 (both TCP and UDP) to IP 192.168.1.2 ... I have verified that port forwarding is working by testing it using PortForward.com's port checker tool, and this website too: Open Port Check Tool - Test Port Forwarding on Your Router When I use the website, if I'm running the applications on Laptop 2, the website reports that the port is open .. if I then close the application, the website reports the port is closed ... This makes sense as nothing is listening on my machine in the latter case .. Also, if I disable port forwarding in my modem, again, the website reports the port is closed ... so, the website's results seem to be okay ...

Despite the above tools reporting that port forwarding is working, I am unable to open the web interfaces from outside my network ... So for example, if I tried to browse 11.22.33.44:8765 or 11.22.33.44:13579, nothing opens in my browser ... But if I accessed these web server's locally from Laptop 3, by typing in 192.168.1.2:8765 or 192.168.1.2:13579, they opened ... The tools report unanimously that port forwarding is working, and yet I am unable to open the web interfaces from outside the network ..Also note that I have disabled the firewall from my computer, and have also made sure that any option in the above programs (whose web interfaces I am trying to open) that says only local connections are to be accepted, is disabled ...

Cisco Firewall :: NAT / Opening A Port On ASA 5505?

Apr 5, 2012

my friend was against a wall trying to update her office's system, and it seems like every Cisco person in the region has gone on vacation. For some sort of new system her office is getting, she was told that she needed to enable NAT with external IP xxx.xxx.xxx.14 (The ASA's IP is xxx.xxx.xxx.11) and internal IP xxx.xxx.xxx.58 and that port 8222 needs to be open.  I know this is sort of vague, but it's what she was given, and I know the 8222 port is very specific in function,?

At any rate, the best I could come up with was to run:

static (inside,outside) xxx.xxx.xxx.58 xxx.xxx.xxx.14 netmask 255.255.255.255
access-list inbound extended permit tcp any host xxx.xxx.xxx.11 eq www
access-list inbound extended permit tcp any host xxx.xxx.xxx.11 eq https
access-list inbound extended permit tcp any host xxx.xxx.xxx.11 eq 8222
access-list inbound extended permit udp any host xxx.xxx.xxx.11 eq 8222
access-group inbound in interface outside

But after I inserted this, she did what she was supposed to be able to do (went home and tried to run some sort of remote installation file) and it didn't work...
