Jul 11, 2011My setup has two firewalls to the internet, one is for all internal users who want to access the internet and the other is an ASA5510 acting as VPN terminaton to remote workers accessing using Anyconnect.Each of the firewalls has a public interface on the same network (ex. 196.160.100.192/26).We have a server with a public interface, and all traffic (internal and external) has to access via the public ip (again in the same network as above) and there are different profiles and access levels on that server depending if you are accessing from an internal IP or a public IP.Well, when users are connected thrugh the VPN, although they have an internal IP address, as they are accessing the server on the public IP, the ASA sends the packets through its external interface (direct connected route) instead of sending it to the default internal gateway that is a "trusted" entry point on the server.Any way to force the ASA to send that traffic to the internal default gateway instead of sending it to the external (direct connected) interface?
PS: I have no access to the server (appliance under warranty) so I can't make any changes to it...

Internet ---> ASA 5510 ---> Static IP1 ---> F3.1 ---> 1811 F0
|-------> Static IP2 ---> F3.2 ---> 1811 F5 ---> VLAN Int
ASA F3.1 10.1.254.9/30
ASA F3.2 10.1.254.13/30
1811 F0 10.1.254.10/30
1811 F5 10.254.1.14/30
When pinging the public IP of ASA F3.2 from the internet a reply is never received because the default route on the 1811 points to ASA F3.1.
How do I get the replies from the 1811 to go back out the same interface from whence it entered ? I am sure the answer is policy-based routing, but not sure how to write the config.

Jan 9, 2012Any method of forcing a non connected switch port LED to blink for a certain number of times regardless if there is anything connected.The purpose of this is we have remote 3750 switch stacks and quite often have to tell non technical staff to patch to a certain port. It would be much easier if we could say "Connect it to the empty port which just started blinking orange" as the port numbers are difficult for them to see in these locations.A similar feature is available in the ethtool package for linux which makes it really easy for identifying ports on servers. It would be great if a similar feature is available on Cisco switches.

Feb 21, 2013I'm intending to purchase a switch for work,and I need to limit the bandwidth of one of the ports to 25 Mbit upload and 25 Mbit download (we have 100/100 Mbit connection and the customer is only paying for 25). I been trying to find information on how this could be "properly" done and what kind of switch I need to buy. As far as I have understood, most L2+ switches support outbound rate limiting, but not inbound, and as I only want the customer to have 25 mbit up and down, I need both.
I been looking at a Cisco Catalyst 3560 switch, and I'm first and foremost wondering if I can limit the inbound AND outbound bandwidth on this switch? Perhaps it can even be done on a simpler, cheaper, switch - as I rather not spend more money then necessary?
Lastly, how to do it, limit the inbound and outbound bandwidth on a single port (perhaps on the above mentioned switch, if possible), to 25 Mbit?

Mar 26, 2013We have some ASR WAN routers which have a dedicated 400M interface to a remote site.
Servers on our Local network source the data through some firewalls via 10G interfaces, which connects to 4500X WAN switches then to the Routers on 1G links.
The sources are rate limiting the traffic but the routers are periodically dropping packets which I think is mostly due to burstiness in the traffic between as it traverses through from 10G links to 1G then to 400M.
How to setup traffic shaping on the 4500X outbound port to our WAN routers.I'd like to see if we could buffer and smoothe out the traffic as it exits the 4500X WAN switch 1G port to the WAN Routers.

Is there a way to configure our HP 5406 with an absolute rate limit on "WAN" port for that server's IP range? I would like to limit it to only being capable of sending 1Mbps worth of traffic over the head end at once.Everything in the documentation points towards priority queues, which as far as I can tell, isn't really what I want.Baring accomplishing this goal using rate limiting is there a better way to prevent our services from accidentally saturating this connection?i thimkong about somthing like that:

However, I do not understand where to setup the static ips and where to drop DHCP to be able to port forward successfully. I have tried in Vuze to set up acceptable ports 51600 for TCP and UDP, but they continue to get this error: "NAT Error - Connect attempt to 67.60.124.173:51600 (your computer) timed out after 20 seconds. This means your port is probably closed." I do know that the Ip present is from my Vonage with my external IP address. I even tried to establish rules for TCP and UDP within AVG Firewall settings for the Vuze program.

How can I configure the Ethernet interface, if I don't see it on the configuration. From the CLI command I issue the command show ip int brief. But It only shows the 2 serials but no E0 interface.
PS. I do have an Ethernet Transceiver connected to the AUI port on the router with a straight through cable going into a 2950 switch.

Dec 22, 2012So I am working on a website with MySQL/PHP that I have been developing on my Linux box. I wanted to show a friend my progress so I temporarily opened up port 80. So he was able to just type in my public IP and it brought him to my localhost index.
My question is, when I type in my IP address in the URL bar, does the web browser automatically just assume port 80? What happens if I want to have 2 different servers from the same local network and one is running through port 80 and the other is running through port 90? In this case, would I have to type ":90" to access the machine running on port 90?

Aug 14, 2012I've recently set up a PC-based IP PBX in our small business which uses a SIP Trunk for up to 3 simultaneous voice calls. Ports needed to operate include 5060 (SIP-UDP) and then a huge range of high-number UDP ports which I believe is for the 'media' or audio. Let's call the range UDP 49,152 to 64,512. I only know a little about the SIP protocol but my understanding is that each call will randomly use a few ports from this range across which will pass audio, Is there a need to have such a wide range of ports open? If my SIP trunk is only capable of 3 simultaneous calls then it seems only 9 or so of those open ports could get used at once. Could I not just open, say a range of 100 ports and be fine, thereby reducing the security risk?

May 13, 2012At first I tried to port forward 25565 on my D-Link Router account, but that didn't work for anyone trying to connect through the External IP.
People can connect locally over my network and I can connect to the game via localhost, but like I said, no friends from abroad.
I've checked my External IP and that doesn't work, I've tried resetting my router to factory default and then reinstalling the firmware for the model, that didn't work. I tried removing the firewall altogether, and also just allowing 25565, but that didn't work. I also got my friend to take their firewall off as well.
(Also, it should be known, when I'm port forwarding I'm allowing access, and have 25565 set in both TCP and UDP. I tested to see if the port was open on Open Port Check Tool, but it said it was closed (connection timed out) even though I had it forwarded)

Sep 4, 2011Unfortunately we are stuck with a bt homehub 2.0. We all hate this thing with a passion. We cant workout how to open the same port on 2 devices. When we try it says theres a conflict and just refuses to let us do it. So only one of us can play the game we want, without it timing out. Now I've tried the BT forums, there was no support there. I phoned up BT and to my absolute disgust, nobody there knew how to use the homehub, or simply said 'turn off the firewall'.

Jan 19, 2013Router Model: TP-Link TD-W8970 port forwarding my modem/router. I previously was able to successfully port forward a Valve Source Server and had other people join on the internet so...(It worked) I recently reformatted and since have had issues.
I'm currently setup with PPPOA and I've added various ports for different programs (a Teamspeak 3 Server[9987] and Minecraft[25565]) either dont work. I used a port checker program and they either say the port is closed or the connection is refused...I've tried using a static IP but I think i configured it wrong becuase i was barely able to get the internet while using it, either way..the ports didn't open.
DCHP is disabled (Tried enabling, didn't work) The above ports are enabled with Windows firewall (inbound+outbound) and Im not using any Anti-virus software to block the ports. Windows 7 64bit, fresh format and ports that wont go through.

Jun 30, 2012I have set up port forwarding for my WD Network HDD, which runs a Media Server (Twonky). Now, I have tested the ports and accessed it through the internet and it works fine, until... I click a link to open a folder and suddenly I get a "No such page" error thing. I have however identified this problem, it seems that when I go off the main page it re-routes to the original network address, not my IP forward address. For Example if my IP was 82.9.12.456 and the port was 800 i would go to "82.9.12.456:800" and it would load but once I navigate i go to "192.168.0.*:800/*****" and does not load the page. If i then copy and past my IP into the URL it works, but this is annoying.
