May 20, 2013I have arequirement where in I need to allow only specific vendor made desktops/laptops to be connected to the switch and block the rest. Say I want only the HP made Laptops to be connected on the Network. and block all other vendors. such as dell, ibm etc.
I am having Catalyst 4500 switches in My network. i tried using the mac access list using the permit and deny statement and then mapping the access list to the vlan access map and then filter using the vlan id. But this doesnt work on cat 4500....the same I tested for 2950 switch and it works perfectly. are there any restrictions on 4500 or any extra configuration has to be done.

Feb 6, 2012I have a Cisco 800 series ?I need to allow access to our local server from a specific range of external ip addresses.I can open port for all external ip using this command:
ip nat inside source static tcp <localserverip> <port> interface <interface> <port
But this is not secure as is..Do I then restrict and permit access using access-list? Or is there another way altogether?

Sep 4, 2011Unfortunately we are stuck with a bt homehub 2.0. We all hate this thing with a passion. We cant workout how to open the same port on 2 devices. When we try it says theres a conflict and just refuses to let us do it. So only one of us can play the game we want, without it timing out. Now I've tried the BT forums, there was no support there. I phoned up BT and to my absolute disgust, nobody there knew how to use the homehub, or simply said 'turn off the firewall'.

The main servers are in a datacenter located in downtown.Each branch has a RV042 router with firmware version 1.3.12.19-tm (Feb 13 2009 13:03:21) installed.All users in this network have a proxy configuration pointing to proxy.[blah].com.br port 3128.the HTTP/HTTPS traffic should go through proxy only. [code] Some "smart" users were caught using Ultrasurf application, which changes the proxy settings to go through port 9666 or even 443.In other machines, we've found some black proxies [for example: 212.46.27.142 port 8080].
My objective:
- To close all ports in Firewall -> Access Rules section and grant permission only to some selected and specified ports.
- To redirect all HTTP/HTTPS connections to go to proxy's IP address only.
Which Access Rules can I set in these RV042s in order to block and prevent these users to continue abusing this network?The users who were caught using Ultrasurf were fired.

Apr 20, 2013open specific ports on 1941w Integrated Services Router.This specific router is a wireless VPN router that has a wired module and a wireless module and VPN so I'm getting 3 subnets on my network - 192.168.1.. for the wired connections, 10.100.1.... for wireless LAN connections and 10.100.2... for VPN remote connections.I know that by default all connected computers can access my Linux server data through telnet so the telnet port is open by default, the problem is that I have some other software licensing system on my Linux box that needs to be accessed through port 27000 and most of my users are using wireless connections and can't access that license because post 27000 is closed.what is the comand to open this post or any other port that I need to be open on the wired module, wireless module and VPN or at least poit me to somewhere where I can find all the commands that I can use for this router?

Jun 20, 2012Our ASA is a 5580 version 8.1(2) and is the L2L VPN peer for a handful of remote offices including a L2L VPN with a vendor who will provide a service for these remote offices. I have two questions/issues:We will need to provide this vendor access to the remote office network(s) only on port 9100 (printing to specific printers at these offices). I know there is an issue with L2L VPNs ability to see each other but if there is a global command allowing all to see each other that would be bad as we have others and don’t want all to see each other.The remote offices are using CIDR 172.20.0.0/16 so each one is assigned for example 172.20.3 the next office is 172.20.4 and so on. For the crypto map access list for this vendor can we use 172.20.0.0/16 or do we need to specify each individual network?

Oct 4, 2011Just finishing up a small install of a 5508 controller and WCS.Approx 30 AP's across 2 buildings.2 WLANS - 1 prod wpa2 and 1 guest which is completely open to internet only.Our security group is asking if there is a way to determine who is accessing the Prod WLAN. Currently it is setup to work with eap and the users AD account which is working well.I noticed under the client tab in WCS that there is a Vendor name and it shows me intel and even RIM when someone with their Blackberry is connected. BUT when we connect via an IPAD it show "unknown" as vendor name. Is there a way to get the IPAD to register under the vendor name ?

Jul 1, 2012Is it possible to enable an absolute value rate limit using QOS on a HP ProCurve 5406 switch for a particular IP range on a specific port? Is there a way to configure our HP 5406 with an absolute rate limit on "WAN" port for that server's IP range? I would like to limit it to only being capable of sending 1Mbps worth of traffic over the head end at once.Everything in the documentation points towards priority queues, which as far as I can tell, isn't really what I want.Baring accomplishing this goal using rate limiting is there a better way to prevent our services from accidentally saturating this connection?i thimkong about somthing like that:

The IKE Proposal field has a number of possible options including: pre-share-aes-256-md5, pre-share-3des-md5, pre-share-aes-256-sha, pre-share-aes-192-sha, pre-share-3des-md5, pre-share-aes-sha and pre-share-3des-sha.
I am able to pick a specific IPSec Proposal w/o issue but when I attempt to do the same for the IKE Proposal, and click OK the choice does not "stick" but rather returns to the entire list as defined above.

Dec 25, 2012We have a L2L VPN with a vendor and our outbound traffic (our local network is 192.168.0.0) NATs over one of our public IP addresses x.x.x.164 to their public IP address 128.x.x.x. In the beginning all our traffic was outbound (port 23) to the vendor and now we need to allow inbound from the vendor to specific 192.168 addresses on our network using port 9100. I’m uncertain as to what I should do to allow their inbound traffic to these IP addresses since we are NATing our entire network over one IP address. Note, the .164 public IP is also used to NAT to other vendors we have L2L VPN with. The VPN terminates to our ASA 5580 version 8.2.
