Routers / Switches :: How To Bridge Two Networks Using A Router

Mar 4, 2012

I live in a school residence with a roomate and we both have an internet connection in our rooms but it's two separate networks since we can't see eachothers pc on the network. Both our pcs are connected to a switch and those switches are connected to the two internet connections. I would like to know how to bridge those two networks using a router in the living room. I would also connect a printer and an xbox to the router so we can both access the printer, the xbox can access both pcs and we can access eachother's pc.

Routers / Switches :: How To Put Linksys Befw11s4 Router Into Bridge Mode

Jan 27, 2012

My ISP insists that in order for me to have a home network use their router/modem ("2-Wire") for internet access, I must make my own network router act as a bridge since their modem is acting as the router. I.e. she said put your router into bridge mode. I don't know how to do that and Linksys won't offer assistance.

I installed DD-WRT on my router and placed it in bridge mode, configuring it with what I thought was my Androids IP address for the gateway. I tried with the Android IP address identified through cmyip.org, 208.54.32.156, and with the one identified through ipconfig command, 192.168.43.1. Neither address was successful. Also, I am unable to access my router using the IP address that I manually assigned to it.provide some assistance on the process of bridging from an Android to a wired PC through a router, Linksys WRT54G v3,

Routers / Switches :: Sharing Across Two Networks In Same Office

Aug 6, 2011

My workplace currently has one AD Forest. Slowly we have drifted in to two slightly separate businesses and my boss wants us to create a new AD Forest and segregate the users doing each business. Although we will all be in the same office, each side will authenticate to a different DC. The problem is, that we have some resources that still need to be shared and I would like to share them as eloquently as possible without converging the networks too much. The two networks will be in the same server rack but they will logically appear as this:Forest1.local (original)

-Cable Internet -- Router A (192.168.1.x) -- 48-port switch A -- PC/Phones/Domain Controller AForest2.local (new)

-Cable Internet -- Router B (10.1.1.x) -- 48-port switch B -- PC/Phones/Domain Controller B.

The problem I have is that the users in the "new" network need access to a shared folder, shared customer DB, and shared printers on the original Domain Controller, named "DC A" above. I have complete control over both networks but cant figure it out the best way.My main concern is physical access between the networks. How will a pc on the 10.1.1.x network know where printer 192.168.1.2 is? I thought about creating a forest trust in order to assign proper permission but how will they resolve the names on a different subnets? The two "routers" are just simple SOHO type routers so I cant do much there. I thought about connecting the two switches together but don't know if that would work. Wouldn't the data just get passed to the default gateway (router) anyway. The router would then just drop it. I also though about using the 2nd NIC in each DC and connecting them in each other's subnet. But again Im not sure if it matters if the DC's can reach each other or if the PC's would have to be able to reach the other subnet etc. I also thought about just creating some kind of VPN (hamagachi) or whatever to go out into the internet then back into the other router to the network. The problem is wouldnt every computer wanting to access the shared folder have to have this setup. I would like to limit setting things up on workstations and just limit config to the DC's if possible.I basically just want users in subnet two to be able to map a drive and access printers on DC in subnet one.

Routers / Switches :: Office VOIP With Multiple Private Networks?

Jan 23, 2011

I'm going to move offices into a shared situation with 3 companies. Each company will want its own private network so there's no snooping between companies. I am planning on using VOIP for the phone system (Nextiva cloud based). Is it possible to set up the system so that each company has access to the VOIP system but yet remains sequestered in the their own network for everything else. I was hoping to do this with one data port at each workstation using Cisco SPA-303 phones. The way I understand this, is that the phone plugs in to the data port and you daisy chain the workstation off from each phone. Is this possible to do this while having the system I described? Another wrinkle is that I'd also like all the networks to be access shared printers.

Bridging Two DHCP Controlled Networks Via Bridge?

Aug 4, 2012

We have 2 DHCP controlled networks at our work:

Network 1: EOC connection. We use this for Internet access, office computers, a POS server and our POS systems. Mostly windows xp and some win 7 systems. Server is Windows 2008 server, but is not controlling DHCP nor a domain. It's just a computer on the network. Directly behind the EOC box is a router using DHCP to manage a 192.168.1.x network. All computers on this network are using 192.168.1.x addresses via DHCP.

Network 2: Comes in on a separate DSL line. Primarily a Linux network controlling several linux based machines. This network has it's own router behind the DSL modem managing DHCP using 175.69.1.x (or something close to that) addresses.

Someone decided to "bridge" these networks by simply plugging each network into the same switch via Cat 5 cable. Bad idea.

The first problem we had (of course) was that the DHCP servers conflicted immediately, so we had to set half of this "mongrel" network to static IPs like 192.168.1.x, and the other computers are getting their addresses via DHCP from the 176.68.1.x network router.

This works - badly. The second router keeps "resetting" the server address on network 1, screwing up our POS systems. But we still need to access the linux machines on network 2 (via http) from the office machines on network 1.

I am thinking the solution to this issue is to place a 3rd router as a bridge between the two networks. Is this correct?

The goal is to be able to be sitting at machine 192.168.1.x on one network, open a web browser, type in a 176.67.1.x address and have the linux web-based application come up from the other network.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2000 Separate Networks On One Modem / Two Routers

Feb 27, 2012

Using a Linksys E2000 and Linksys WRT54GL (both flashed to most recent firmware), I am trying to set up Network "A" and Network "B" on one modem. I do not want either A or B to be able to see each other for security purposes. Both are secured networks for the wireless connections and have different SSIDs.

After online research, and the inability to find my exact question answered, this is what I did and I'd like to know if I'm missing anything to keep A and B completely separate. Or, if I've done anything that will cause any problems on my network. [code]

I disabled the ability to change settings using wireless connection on both routers.

Cisco Switches :: SF300-08 - Possible To Have 2 Networks On Different VLANs

May 22, 2011

My ISP is providing me with 1 public IP on a /30 network and 14 public IPs on a /28 network.  In this example the 10.0.0.1 is the default gw provided by my ISP and 10.0.0.2 is my SF300-08. If I setup my router to route to 10.0.0.2 as the default gw through the interface between the switch and router, can I configure the static routes in the switch to route further to 10.0.0.1?

is it possible to have these 2 networks on different VLANs and configure inter-VLAN routing? I don't want the switch accessible from the 10.0.0.2 IP.

Cisco Switches :: SG300 Switch 2 Separate Networks

Sep 1, 2011

We have 2 separate networks here, 1 for data (192.168.0.x) and 1 for VOIP phones (192.168.3.x).

I need them to both be connected to different ports on a switch (Cisco SG 300 10 port managed switch) which is then linked to another switch (Cisco Catalyst 2960 48 port switch). Then on this 2960 switch I want the link to be split back into the 2 separate networks. I think that I need to create 2 separate VLANs and assign them to different ports.

Cisco Switches :: ESW-520 / Setting Up Two Separate Networks With Access To Shared Resources?

Jan 19, 2013

We have a two separate businesses in the same building who will both need access to shared resources and the same internet connection. They will need to remain on separate subnets and cannot communicate directly to each other. The current switch is a Cisco ESW-520-48P and we are looking at purchasing an SG-300-20P for the new business moving in. Heres how we envisage setting it up:

ESW-520 will host Company A's network. Workstations, servers etcSG-300 will have two VLANS. VLAN1 will host all Company B's network. Workstations, servers etc. VLAN2 will host the shared resources such as printers. The internet gateway is a UNIX based system with 3 NICS. 2 NICS are taken up by ADSL connections while the other NIC is the LAN, which would connect to VLAN2 on the SG-300. We would like to define which ADSL connection to route through depending on which subnet traffic is originating. The ESW-520 will need access to the shared resources and internet gateway on VLAN2 on the SG-300.

Routers / Switches :: Get An IP From Behind A Router?

Apr 29, 2011

i have a router connected to my ISP which can get me 2 different IP's at all times (the router gets one IP).Now i want to get my computer to have a different ip as my router has (seen from outside my home network) - i want my computer that accesses the internet through my router to have a different IP as my router. I know that if my computer gets it's IP from my router's subnet, then it will (seen from outside) always have the same IP as my router. So the question is how do i get around this ? Do i just have to change my PC's DNS / gateway settings to match my router's ? The PC is connected to my router via wifi. Or would forwarding some ports on my router work ?

WNDR3700 - Two Routers / Independent Networks?

Jul 13, 2011

My network routing (both routers are consumer-grade NETGEAR WNDR3700) is like this:

Modem ==> Router 1 ==> Router 2 WAN Port

I have Router 1 set to DHCP the entire home network. I want Router 2 to section off a web server from the home network in case it gets compromised, but I want computers on the home network to be able to administer the web server.

As it stands, the web server can access PCs on Router 1, and not vice-versa. In effect, I want this to be reversed. Can this be done without changing the physical configuration?

All right, I bit the bullet and switched the router chain so Router 2 comes before Router 1. Set up was so easy and though it's not perfect, it's all ready!
