Routers / Switches :: Wireless PCs (192.168.1.x) Can't Connect With Wired LAN

Jan 20, 2011

I have a Netgear WGR164v9 wireless router connected to internet directly by public IP and this router performing DHCP for wireless LAN ip subnet is 192.168.1.x. A server (DNS,DHCP & RRAS with NAT) connected with this router by ip 192.168.1.6 which has another subnet 192.168.10.x for LAN PCs. In this situation everything is fine like internet browsing. The only problem is wireless PCs (192.168.1.x) can't connect with wired LAN PCs (192.168.10.x). The router ip is 192.168.1.1. How can I configure to connect those two subnet's PCs?

Routers / Switches :: Wireless And Wired Connection For The Same Set Of PCs?

Feb 1, 2012

I have 3 PCs (win7-64) connected to a wired gigabit network to achieve fast transfer of large files. Separately, at a distance, I have a modem-router to access the Internet. Internet access for the 3 PCs is achieved with each PC connected wireless to the latter modem router. The 2 networks are running OK and PCs can connect each other on both networks. Question: How can I know and achieve that the gigabit network is used for file transfers and not the slower wireless network? How should configure both routers and PCs to achieve this? I don't need the wireless setup to be a network, just to provide wireless access for each PC and that's it. I used to have the gigabit LAN configured with a Dlink DAP1522 bridge that created a single wireless connection between this wired LAn and the modem-router but it stopped working and I'm pretty done with it.

How do I disable the wired settings

Routers / Switches :: Wired Router Is Upstream Of A Wireless Is It More Secure

Dec 22, 2011

2 routers in series, is one more secure. I recently asked about setting up two routers in series as routers, one wireless one not. It was my understanding that the computers on the second router would not be visible to computers on the first router, the wireless one. My assumption was that this would make it more difficult for someone who got access to the wireless router to also access those computers on the second router.

I get low signal strength downstairs(many walls) and would like to run an Ethernet cable downstairs to my devices. What hardware do I need downstairs to hard wire those devices? Not sure if router or switch and what kind. Do I need to make any changes to my existing D-Link wireless router? I want to keep the wireless available for cell phones and the HP laptop.

Routers / Switches :: Add Wired Ports To DSL Modem And Get Gigabit SubLAN

Jan 24, 2012

Adding ports to my Fairpoint provided Westell 7500 Rev D DLS modem router which has only 4 RJ45 ports. Bought a Linksys SE2500 gigabit smart switch but it doesn't assign IP or pass on router assigned IPs. Can't get ASSISTANCE from Fairpoint [successor to Verizon] configuring router or any advice on other ways to get more wired devices on LAN.For speed in backups I'd like 3 devices to be able to communicate at giabit speed Want to have an NAS and 2 Win7 Ultimate computers on smart switch, 3 other wired devices [WinXP, AT&T Cell tower, & DirectTV whole house SWM interface] and wireless on the router. 1. Are Fairpoint specs for DSL published so I could get another DSL modem router instead of the Westell or is it better to configure Westell as a router only and use a new to be acquired router with or without the existing or a new gigabit switch. I have a DI-624 from the pre-DSL Hughesnet satellite days.2. Are there less smart switches which would work better and let router assign the IPs?3. If this is too complex for me, can you recommend a remote access consultant to walk me through this for a fee?4. I'm 82, have been in computing since 1960, mainly in on-line end user environment mbut don't know the bridging, PPP PPoE differences, and implementation or configuration details of current hard and software except as a user.

Routers / Switches :: How To Connect Router And Wireless Access Point

Mar 13, 2011

I have high-speed cable access currently coming into an older D-Link 4-port wired router. I need to buy a new wired and wireless router so I can sync my new Android 4G phone (I'm in an area with bad cell coverage but I can sync with wi-fi). I have a second house about 200 feet from mine and have 3 Cat5E lines running underground in conduit to it so the lady next door and and her two kids can use the internet (I have 40-50mb service for my business use at home). Problem is that my kids have discovered YouTube, streaming video, video chat, etc. and are burning up my bandwidth. I currently have two of the lines to them disconnected so that I can limit their use to one computer at a time. I'm considering having them buy a Wireless Access Point, can they connect it to the standard single Cat5E LAN wire that is coming from my new wired and wireless router when I buy it?

Routers / Switches :: How To Connect Two Internet Routers To One LAN

Mar 8, 2011

How do i connect two internet routers to one IP address range?I currently have one broadband router connected on 172.16.0.3 subnet 255.255.0.0, I have a second line which is a copper ethernet EFM 2Mb line connected using a Cisco 1800 router configured on 172.16.0.254 subnet 255.255.255.0, no DHCP is configured on either router. the dhcp is provided by a windows 2003 server on our LAN which is also configured on the same LAN IP range. if i connect the Cisco router into the same switch as the broadband router my network devices stop working and dont respond.

If i check the broadband router it shows all the connections to it as having the same MAC address as the Cisco router?? if i disconnect the Cisco router everything returns back to normal and works perfectly. What I want to achieve is to be able to run both routers on the same LAN to provide internet access by configuring the pc's to route through a specific router. the DHCP I want to stay routed through my original broadband line. at the same time i want all pc's to access to the lan devices (ie. servers and printers) what the correct configuration would be for the two internet routers would be?
