Svchost Has Been Terminated / Harmful By Active Virus Control
Sep 5, 2012Yesterday I updated an adobe flash and it installed McAfee Security Scan Plus on my computer. My wife used my computer to access her work email and gmail. This morning I woke up and uninstalled McAfee and now my internet is not working. Seems I am still connected to the network and all other computers connect just fine to my internet, like this laptop I am using now, just not my desktop. The first thing I noticed was that bitdefender was saying "svchost.exe has been terminated because it was deemed harmful by Active Virus Control". Upon investigating this, I ran an ipconfig release and renew. Now the yellow triangle with exclamation mark is gone and my Wireless Network Connection shows I am connected "with internet" however, I cannot use the internet. Even my weather gadget does not work.I found this website and looked at some of the suggestions. I called my internet provider and we spent hours trying to figure it out and it wouldnt work. So they told me it was the computer. my daughter got a new laptop and we plugged the cable into her computer and the internet worked perfectly. I contacted emachines but they charge me for customer service.

Nov 10, 2011I had a serious infection in my PC desktop (a very harmful class of rootkit) and the only onle solution was Combofix. But after "cleaning" my Internet connection is not working anymore. All the solutions I have found about restoring Winsock funcionality were useless.I have a laptop connected via Wi-Fi and it is working fine. So any problem with my modem or router should be ruled out.Especially because the same desktop can connect to the Internet using Ubuntu Linux.

Nov 26, 2012Is there a way on the security appliance SA520 to remove someone from the DHCP lease client manually rather than setting the DHCP lease time to expire in less time like 4 hours or 2 hours. I was able to do this on other routers by highlighting the connected device and click remove. If not any recommendations on how to handle the device that are attached via DHCP and the person is no longer here, but the lease time is not up. I have set DHCP lease time to 4 hours.

Sep 6, 2012Few days ago the wireless in my son's Dell Inspiron 620 went bad. It does connect to my old router (WEP), but speed is terrible and connection goes bad after some time. I can also see my modern router and enter the key successfully (WPA2), but it won't connect. Connection to both routers went well for months before, and still goes well from all other devices in the house.
I read the issue with McAfee that was posted late August and followed the steps. Connection in safe mode didn't work. Then I removed McAfee from the PC, no difference. Then I restored the PC to a couple of days before the issues began, removed McAfee again (as it came back through the restore), no difference.
I reinstalled the drivers of the Dell wireless card, no difference.

I'm pretty sure it's clean at this point, but now I've ran into the problem of not getting any internet from my ethernet cord. I've tried plugging in another and it gave me the same problem. So far so good, however, the pix has conduits which i read must be converted via the occ tool. So i ran the pix to asa conversion then ran the occ tool on that output but i keep getting errors. It is not liking the nameif outside, inside, and dmz lines. If i manually edited them out before i run the occ tool it runs but warns there are no interfaces.

Sep 22, 2011using virus scanner over the network and this is related to my workplace. a pc with win xp can share all drives (including c:) over the network with another pc with win xp as well. let's say pc1 and pc2 (both with win xp). i can scan pc2 from pc1 once i hv shared all the drives. but for win vista n 7, i found out that it is not possible to share c:...yes, there are some ways to share it but the entire c: cannot be shared. n i also know that c: cannot be shared entirely due to security purposes. but can i bypass this only for virus scanning purpose? i know many will juz ask me to install the anti virus on the infected pc, but if possible i want to scan it over the network. if i hv to scan 20 PCs at the same time i find it easier to do it from a single pc than to install the anti-virus at every single pc.

It will assign IP addresses when I connect via cat 5, but it will not broadcast an SSID. I have tried updating the firmware, but even after running the update it just takes me to the recovery tool. The only options I have are update firmware or reboot. I thought about using DD-WRT, but this particular router is on the black list for that particular firmware option.
