Cisco WAN :: Card Insertion On 3845 Routers
Oct 6, 2011I need to install a HWIC-2Fe card onto the Cisco 3845 motherboard. Do I need to power down the router for this installation?Also I had a few more queries in regards to 3845 routers.
1) DO C3845 routers support insertion and removal of Network modules while powered on?
2) Do C3845 routers support insertion and removal of Power supply (redundant one)?
3) Is it the case that all Network modules which need to be inserted onto the motherboard require the router to be powered down?
4) If there is a need to replace the Network module from a particular slot with a new one (same make), powering down the router is not required?

Jan 7, 2012I currently have a VSS setup on 2 6509-E using 2x VS-S720-10G.Today I tried to install 2x X6708-10G-3CXL, one into each chassis. The first log message I got was that fan tray was going into high-speed mode, is this correct?I then installed the second card in the 2nd chassis and it killed my VSS and proceed to reload the switches. it now also appears to have killed one of my WS-X6724-SFP cards, as it no-longer boots and I get the following errors:

Aug 23, 2012The SuperVisor engine in slot 1 of a Catalyst 6513 needed to be replaced because a hardware defect. The SuperVisor engine in slot 2 is active and running CatOS 8.5. The new SuperVisor engine for slot 1 came with CatOS 6.3 and was not syncronized auromatically after insertion. When the customer enter the command "Show boot" he get the output:

Sep 6, 2012Few days ago the wireless in my son's Dell Inspiron 620 went bad. It does connect to my old router (WEP), but speed is terrible and connection goes bad after some time. I can also see my modern router and enter the key successfully (WPA2), but it won't connect. Connection to both routers went well for months before, and still goes well from all other devices in the house.
I read the issue with McAfee that was posted late August and followed the steps. Connection in safe mode didn't work. Then I removed McAfee from the PC, no difference. Then I restored the PC to a couple of days before the issues began, removed McAfee again (as it came back through the restore), no difference.
I reinstalled the drivers of the Dell wireless card, no difference.

Nov 25, 2012I have a DMVPN network with 2 hubs (2821's). This setup is used for VoIP applications over the Internet for teleworkers. At the main hub site I used to have only 1 Internet feed which was DSL with a static IP. Now I have 2 WAN feeds for this site - 1 FTTB w/ PPPoE & the DSL with static IP. Since this site also hosts a PRI, I want all voice communications to go through the FTTB link instead of the DSL for obvious reasons, but keep the DSL as DMVPN Hub for all NHRP lookups as this link has a static IP address & is very stable. We originally put the PRI router as a DMVPN spoke which connected through the FTTB link, with another router acting as the DMVPN hub on the DSL link. This was obviously a waste of machinery. I want to combine both routers into one. So I tried something like this (don't laugh):
Gi0/0 to FTTB (Dialer1 connects to Internet)
Gi0/1 to DSL (Public IP towards 877 demarc)
Tun0 attaches to Dialer1 public IP and connects to other spokes, no VRF
Tun1 attaches to Gi0/1 public IP and acts as DMVPN hub (ip nhrp map multicast dynamic) under VRF "Hub"
EIGRP AS 1 is set up twice, once under router eigrp 1, and the other using router eigrp 2 using an address-family under the Hub VRF.This kinda works but obviously Tun0 & Tun1 do not speak to each other. I also had to remove the ip nhrp map instruction that pointed to Hub1 on Tun0, as this was causing a weird condition in the router where it was repeatedly trying to connect a tunnel to itself, and crash the router because the NHRP process would go haywire. So my users must rely on the Hub2 to get a NHRP lookup for the PRI site. If Hub2 goes down, everything works in the network except for tunnel connections to the FTTB link. I'd rather not have to configure 2 tunnels on each spoke router unless I really have to.
