Networking :: Virus That Can Disable Laptop CD / DVD Drive DV6000

Jan 7, 2013

Having HP Pavillion DV6000 laptop and the cd/dvd drive worked fine up until they got a virus on the computer and then went to Walmart and purchased an AV program and installed and ran the AV program. I think the program was Norton. I have completely scanned and removed everything I can find on the pc with numerous programs, but the cd/dvd drive still does not work.

Here is what the drive does...when a disc is put in the drive light comes on and you can hear and feel the drive spinning (I have tried 3 different drives in the computer and they all do the same thing). The pc will not boot from any disc...they light comes up at boot up, but will not boot. Putting a disc in the drive in Windows and trying to access the disc you get something like drive not ready, insert a disc. All connections are solid. The drive shows up in Windows Explorer as well.

Cisco Firewall :: Rebuild ASA 5520 Failover Unit

May 12, 2011

What process I need to follow to rebuild my failover unit? I've had to turn it off because it seems that both the primary and secondary were thinking they should both be the active unit. I'm not sure why. But in turning off the failover, I had internet access again. So I think I want to rebuild the secondary unit's configuration. Do I need to turn off failover from the primary unit first? Disconnect the secondary unit, console into it and remove the configuration (command to remove from flash?)? Rebuild the interfaces..all interfaces or just STATE between the units? Just trying to get a list of the process

No Internet After Virus

Dec 11, 2011

I'm having is I used to have a virus on my computer, until running a number of scanners to get it off. I'm pretty sure it's clean at this point, but now I've ran into the problem of not getting any internet from my ethernet cord. I've tried plugging in another and it gave me the same problem. I've tried running WinSock hoping it was just a registry problem I could fix, but that didn't seem to work. I also tried running "ipconfig /all" in my command prompt and got this error: [code] I'm running Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2.I'm at the point where I'm considering just reinstalling Windows, but I figured I might as well ask someone who knows better than I do of a better alternative.

Using Virus Scanner Over The Network?

Sep 22, 2011

using virus scanner over the network and this is related to my workplace. a pc with win xp can share all drives (including c:) over the network with another pc with win xp as well. let's say pc1 and pc2 (both with win xp). i can scan pc2 from pc1 once i hv shared all the drives. but for win vista n 7, i found out that it is not possible to share c:...yes, there are some ways to share it but the entire c: cannot be shared. n i also know that c: cannot be shared entirely due to security purposes. but can i bypass this only for virus scanning purpose? i know many will juz ask me to install the anti virus on the infected pc, but if possible i want to scan it over the network. if i hv to scan 20 PCs at the same time i find it easier to do it from a single pc than to install the anti-virus at every single pc.

Dec 20, 2011

Can your router or even your modem contract a virus? Wouldn't it have to be designed specifically for that router/modem? If it does is there even a way to remove it? I have wondered this for a while, mine doesn't though.

Does Router Itself Provide Security From Virus

Mar 8, 2011

When one sets up a wireless network, do devices that use the Internet wirelessly benefit from increased security because their connection comes through a router? I thought I heard this from a tech podcast. I don't mean security from hacking, such as having a password, etc. I mean that the router itself gives some security from virus.

No Internet Connection After Removing Virus

Jan 2, 2012

I encountered a similar problem of no internet after virus removal.

a) IE shows "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
b) MSN and Skype do not seem to respond as well
c) My laptop is connected to a router and I'm able to access other PC on the LAN, but not anything requires internet access
d) The LAN icon on the taskbar shows my PC is connected to both the router and the internet (but internet just somehow doesnt work)
e) Proxy option isn't enabled
f) Booted my Win Vista in Safe Mode with Networking, internet doesnt work as well
g) output from ipconfig seems ok; able to ping gateway ip
h) checked the list of network services posted on this thread; they're all started
i) Removed my antivirus program and disabled windows firewall; to no avail as well
j) MSN repair suggests that there's firewall/ dns issue that causes MSN couldnt connect
k) Both wired and wireless connections used to work; but both not working now
l) Other PCs on the LAN are able to connect to internet

Unable To Connect To Internet After Removing Virus

Sep 27, 2011

After getting virus and cleaning the system as requested, including all of the registry items not required, I have been unable to get onto the internet.Bad Image Error.I have a Mesh PC, running XP SP3.The motherboard is MS-7207 ver2.I've tried reinstalling the ethenet drivers but to no avail.I can see the network adapter in the control panel and it says the drivers are installed OK.The green light comes on when the cable is plugged in but not the yellow data lamp.I have a second hard drive from an old PC that I reinstalled windows on booted from, I updated the drivers and successfully connected to the internet, which proves all the hardware and drivers do work, but just not on my main hard drive containing my proper windows install.I'm logging this fault on my work laptop as its the only way I can get on line. Cannot Connect To Internet After Virus / System Restore?

Apr 23, 2012

I have Windows Vista. So I had a virus that was making it impossible for me to open a web browser without it starting a fake security scan and spamming my screen with multiple browsers. I had no other choice but to do a system restore since I had this problem in the past and a system restore fixed my computer. But, after the system restore, I can connect to the network using a wireless, but when I try to open any browser(firefox/internet explorer) it says internet explorer cannot display the webpage or server not found on firefox. I've tried resetting my internet settings, but no luck. I also don't have an internet security anymore since I was trying to install Kaspersky, but kept having trouble installing it properly.

Svchost Has Been Terminated / Harmful By Active Virus Control

Sep 5, 2012

Yesterday I updated an adobe flash and it installed McAfee Security Scan Plus on my computer. My wife used my computer to access her work email and gmail. This morning I woke up and uninstalled McAfee and now my internet is not working. Seems I am still connected to the network and all other computers connect just fine to my internet, like this laptop I am using now, just not my desktop. The first thing I noticed was that bitdefender was saying "svchost.exe has been terminated because it was deemed harmful by Active Virus Control". Upon investigating this, I ran an ipconfig release and renew. Now the yellow triangle with exclamation mark is gone and my Wireless Network Connection shows I am connected "with internet" however, I cannot use the internet. Even my weather gadget does not work.I found this website and looked at some of the suggestions. Here is what I have from my what I read on a solved thread "[SOLVED]wifi connected but no internet and unidentified network" including the three ping tests. [code]

ESPRIMO Mobile V6555 - Any Virus Hitting Wireless Network?

May 5, 2012

I have "ESPRIMO Mobile V6555" Laptop, running Windows XP SP3, with which the wireless network adapter worked fine before. Now, after I bought a new router (TBLink) my laptop cannot access internet through this router wirless netowrk, and cannot even make ping command to the router address.I tried many things to work around this problem: reinstall the driver of Wireless adapter, change the connection setting on both router and computer, cleaning ARP Cash ...etc.

1) the router works fine for other wireless devices like my HTC widows mobile phone and other laptop running Windows 7.

2) When I assign a static IP for my laptop it can connect to the network but still could not make the ping command to the router or reach any network resources.

3) I have Bitdefender Internet Security running and up to date.
