Networking :: Virus That Can Disable Laptop CD / DVD Drive DV6000

Having HP Pavillion DV6000 laptop and the cd/dvd drive worked fine up until they got a virus on the computer and then went to Walmart and purchased an AV program and installed and ran the AV program. I think the program was Norton. I have completely scanned and removed everything I can find on the pc with numerous programs, but the cd/dvd drive still does not work.
Here is what the drive does...when a disc is put in the drive light comes on and you can hear and feel the drive spinning (I have tried 3 different drives in the computer and they all do the same thing). The pc will not boot from any disc...they light comes up at boot up, but will not boot. Putting a disc in the drive in Windows and trying to access the disc you get something like drive not ready, insert a disc. All connections are solid. The drive shows up in Windows Explorer as well.

I have setup a new wireless router and then connected to my laptop, my netbook, my ipad and my mobile.. I had no problems initially but the problems arise when sometimes my internet connection goes off.. after that when i switch on the internet connection then, all my device are back on track except for my laptop(HP Pavillion DV6000)
This problem gets solved automatically only sometimes when i restart my laptop. otherwise it does'nt detect my own wifi SSID.. it detects my neighbour'snetwork but not mine

I am having trouble connected my HP DV6000 laptop to the internet using the ethernet cable. The wireless on my laptop no longer works therefore connecting directly to the router. The connection using the ethernet cable has worked before but now that I am home I can not get the connection to work. The status shows as "limited or no connectivity" and when I click on repair it says "windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: renewing you IP address". I think that's what I want to do. I have an HP desktop with vista and cable high speed modem and a linkys attached to it for wireless. My laptop is a toshiba with wireless running windows 7 and I use it upstairs wireless to connect to the net. There are times I need a file from the desktop and I have to go down and put it on memory stick to copy it over. Is there any way I can access the desktop from the laptop without having to do that? Would need step by step instructions to set it up if it can be done with 2 different operating systems.

Log-in screen is presented, but the desktop never appears on the client machine. Connecting the subject laptop via an Ethernet cable, cures the problem, and the connection succeeds, so we can rule out problems with RDT configuration, firewalls, and third party software. I just got this router and it is working with my pc. wireless internet, however is not working despite trying to connect through a USB drive. My laptop which is what i'm trying to connect to the internet from is not picking up my server, and i'm wondering if the problem is that I have not used the cd that came with the router. I have an HP dv6000 that has an atheros ar5007 b/g card built in, windows vista home premium, the system was recently restored to start fresh for a new user (my daughter).The ethernet port on the side works fine to get online, the wifi is on and does find connections out there including our att uverse, it will connect to our library's and our community rooms free wifi, and to a neighbors unsecured connection as well, but no matter what I do I can't get it to connect to OUR att uverse!I do know the passkey and its verified with all our other laptops, iphones, ps3 etc, i tried updating the wifi cards drivers from the hp site, i turned off the firewall, re-tried the passkey, its not erroring on that just won't connect.There is this diagnose thing that does nothing, I have also reset the att uverse and restarted the laptop all same results.Then I thought maybe windows updates were needed, so plugged in via ethernet cord did those restarted, still same thing (won't connect to our att) but strangely still does connect to other wifi so i am pretty sure its not a bad card inside the machine or anything.

Whether the switch is pushed to on or off the light stays orange, when it is connected it used to turn blue. I've included a prtscrn of my device manager...

My WiFi card went out in my HP Pavillion dv6000 and I tried installing an external adapter. Actually I've tried 2 different ones and both try and try to connect but can't. The signal is strong but connectivity is weak. I think the problem is that when my brother installed the first one (belkin) he enabled security on my internet connection. He lives in another town and he can't remember what the security code that he put in is. I never had any problem connecting when my internal wifi was working and the connection wasn't secured. how to disable security and make it like it used to be so that I can see if this will let my external card connect? I uninstalled the Belkin and installed a netgear and that wouldn't connect either.

My WLSE 1030 hard drive failed and I have replaced it with a new drive but when I boot from the 2.15 recovery CD the disc boots and runs, within the console connection I get the error "ERROR: version information not found in flash" the disc is the ejected and the system reboots.How can I reload the system software.

I'm having is I used to have a virus on my computer, until running a number of scanners to get it off. I'm pretty sure it's clean at this point, but now I've ran into the problem of not getting any internet from my ethernet cord. I've tried plugging in another and it gave me the same problem. I've tried running WinSock hoping it was just a registry problem I could fix, but that didn't seem to work. using virus scanner over the network and this is related to my workplace. a pc with win xp can share all drives (including c:) over the network with another pc with win xp as well. let's say pc1 and pc2 (both with win xp). i can scan pc2 from pc1 once i hv shared all the drives. but for win vista n 7, i found out that it is not possible to share c:...yes, there are some ways to share it but the entire c: cannot be shared. n i also know that c: cannot be shared entirely due to security purposes. but can i bypass this only for virus scanning purpose? i know many will juz ask me to install the anti virus on the infected pc, but if possible i want to scan it over the network. if i hv to scan 20 PCs at the same time i find it easier to do it from a single pc than to install the anti-virus at every single pc.
