I have a HP DV6000 Laptop. The wireless coverage is not very good and I was thinking of upgrading the Wireless card to something better. The current card is HP Pavilion DV9000 PCI-Express Wireless WIFI Card 802.11a/b/g 441075-001 by HP. Is it even possible to install another card in the laptop or does HP limit what you can put in this laptop

I've been into devmgmt.msc and looked, but I don't see any network card. In the folder Network Connections there are three alternatives, and none are wireless...I've tried to download the drivers for chipset, modem and network, but I still can't find anything.

Since installation of the new router I keep getting dropped from my LAN and the internet with "connectivity issues" ... this only occurs on my notebook PC and not the other wireless devices I have in my home. I’ve done some searching on the internet and this seems to be a generic problem with the Broadcom 802.11b/g/n card the notebook uses. I have 2 questions:
1) Is there an easy way to adjust either the card or the router to deal with these issues and if not then
2) what is the best notebook card to replace the Broadcom with to assure these issues go away.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an HP dv6000 that has an atheros ar5007 b/g card built in, windows vista home premium, the system was recently restored to start fresh for a new user (my daughter).The ethernet port on the side works fine to get online, the wifi is on and does find connections out there including our att uverse, it will connect to our library's and our community rooms free wifi, and to a neighbors unsecured connection as well, but no matter what I do I can't get it to connect to OUR att uverse!I do know the passkey and its verified with all our other laptops, iphones, ps3 etc, i tried updating the wifi cards drivers from the hp site, i turned off the firewall, re-tried the passkey, its not erroring on that just won't connect.There is this diagnose thing that does nothing, I have also reset the att uverse and restarted the laptop all same results.Then I thought maybe windows updates were needed, so plugged in via ethernet cord did those restarted, still same thing (won't connect to our att) but strangely still does connect to other wifi so i am pretty sure its not a bad card inside the machine or anything.

I am having trouble connected my HP DV6000 laptop to the internet using the ethernet cable. The wireless on my laptop no longer works therefore connecting directly to the router. My WiFi card went out in my HP Pavillion dv6000 and I tried installing an external adapter. Actually I've tried 2 different ones and both try and try to connect but can't. The signal is strong but connectivity is weak. I think the problem is that when my brother installed the first one (belkin) he enabled security on my internet connection. He lives in another town and he can't remember what the security code that he put in is. I never had any problem connecting when my internal wifi was working and the connection wasn't secured. how to disable security and make it like it used to be so that I can see if this will let my external card connect? I uninstalled the Belkin and installed a netgear and that wouldn't connect either.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHaving HP Pavillion DV6000 laptop and the cd/dvd drive worked fine up until they got a virus on the computer and then went to Walmart and purchased an AV program and installed and ran the AV program. I think the program was Norton. I have completely scanned and removed everything I can find on the pc with numerous programs, but the cd/dvd drive still does not work.
Here is what the drive does...when a disc is put in the drive light comes on and you can hear and feel the drive spinning (I have tried 3 different drives in the computer and they all do the same thing). The pc will not boot from any disc...they light comes up at boot up, but will not boot. Putting a disc in the drive in Windows and trying to access the disc you get something like drive not ready, insert a disc. All connections are solid. The drive shows up in Windows Explorer as well.

Theoretically, imagine a centralized 352 with an omnidirectional antenna that is linked to multiple 352's with yagi antennas in a hub-spoke fashion. If this central 352 is replaced with a 1552 access point, will the existing Yagi's be able to talk to the 1552? I understand that the Yagi's AP's should be replaced with 1552's as well (thus forming a mesh network as the 1552s are designed to do) but for the sake of theory please assume the 'spoke' 352s will not be replaced. I have the understanding that the 1552s communicate over the 802.11a for the backhaul so I'm thinking this would cause some issues with the 352's.

I have migrated the exact configuration from my 4404 controller to the 5508 and they are both running the same version of code. I'm worried that if I replace the 4402 with the 5508 controller, the Access Points will not rejoin to the new controller or they will join but will have lost their configuration e.g. AP Name/location etc etc. AP models registered to the existing controller are 1131, 1142 and 3502. I am also using Cisco WCS.
As long as the new controller has the exact same configuration, is it possible to replace the 4404 with the 5508? Will the existing Access Points join the new controller? Is there any other configuration required? I have read about doing this using mobility groups however would rather not if possible.

I'm a software developer running 6 servers plus 3 laptops and 5+ other devices (iPad, Wii, Droid phones, BluRay...). I prefer to use a trusted PC list (enter MACs for all trusted devices) rather than WEP or WPA - is this available with the E4200?
I don't need VPN, but I do run a number of web servers, app servers and databases, so port forwarding is important - I notice the E4200 provides port range forwarding and single port forwarding - I assume this replaces the Rules and Services feature in Netgear - right?
Do you see any potential problems, given my needs, in using the E4200?

I am having difficulty setting up the W8968 to replace the router given by TM for the Unifi connection.I tried updating the firmware of the modem router and used quick setup to configure the device as a wireless router using PPPoE, but still couldn't connect to the internet using the WAN port.I noticed there was a guide for TD-W8960N to set up TM Unifi but the web interface is too different from the W8968 interface.

I use 2 Ubiquiti Unifi UAP-Pro APs in my home for WIFI access, so I have the WIFI aspect of my home network covered completely. All wiring in my home is either Cat5e or Cat6, my switch is a gigabit HP ProCurve 1810G-24, and my cable modem is a Motorola SB6120 (Comcast cable broadband). I have 7 IP cameras (security system), 4 streaming media players, several PCs, a server, and several other network connected devices. I am the only resident.
I am looking to maximize my WAN to LAN (& LAN to WAN) throughput while maintaining a very secure network. I also want the router to have reliable VPN. If it is a wireless router, I would most likely not utilize the WIFI feature, probably turning off the WIFI radios and just use the router functionality.
I don't have the time/patience to build a PFSense (or similar) box and learn the software, so am only considering an off-the-shelf solution. Yes I know that PFSense and Untangle are great, I simply don't have time to learn them presently or in the foreseeable future.So, which router for wired performance and security would you recommend?

When I unplug the CONSOLE cable our Internet shuts off.I would expect that of the ethernet cable, but not of a console cable.I'm an experienced network tech, but not a Cisco guy. I have 2 Dell computers; a desktop and a laptop which I use wirelessly in the house.After doing several things from disconnecting the router to try and determine if the problem was with my router or an ethernet cable AT&T determined a port on my router which is 6 years old could be going bad and recommended I replace my router.I contacted Linksys yesterday; spoke to tech support for my WRT54G router and was given 2 model recommendations. One was a Model E900 N300 and a more expensive model; an EA2700 N600. There is a price difference of $40.00 USD between the 2 models. I could probably get by with the E900 N300 for $49.99 but the guy at Linksys was putting the pressure on me to buy the more expensive one for $89.99. I told him I'd have to think about it.

The previous vendor used PPOE for connection and we used a dialer 1 interface to make the connection with a user name and password.
The new connection is a straight WAN DHCP no username or password needed.
I realize I can change the dialer interface from negotiate to DHCP but do I still need it ?
Can I replace the dialer 1 interface with IRB ? Should i just keep the Dialer 1 interface since the device is currently set that way and just remove the PPP negotiation from dialer 1 ?
