Jun 12, 2012I've been having some problems with my Ethernet connection lately.The problem started early last week. I'm currently relocating, so I unplugged my laptop from the Ethernet connection I had at my old place.At two different locales, I have tried to use an Ethernet connection in order to get better speed (the wireless at the first locale was non-existent and at the second it is extremely slow in my room). I have done so with two separate cables that I have tested on others' computers and found that they are perfectly fine. That, of course, leads me to believe that it is my computer and is either a hardware or software problem (here's hoping it's the latter).Anyway, my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1720 (purchased in 2006). About a year ago, I updated to Windows 7 from the pre-installed Vista. Never had any problems (as I said, everything was fine up until about a week ago). The installed card is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller. Everything under Device Manager indicates that the hardware is working properly and has all of its drivers installed, but nothing is working.I have tried to uninstall and re-install the drivers (albeit by allowing windows to find them automatically), but the result is the exact same.I have checked the port and found that there is no debris or obstructions. My computer hasn't been dropped or mishandled in any way.

System has a Broadcom NeXtreme Gigabit Ethernet card installed, which gets me to the internet OK when using a LAN cable from wireless router. But I can't make wireless connection. Vista tells me that I need a wireless network adapter.Am I missing something? Is it possible to change some settings to get the Broadcom card to go wireless? If not, what sort of adapter is needed, and is such adapter external or will it have to be installed in the system box?

Nov 9, 2012I'm using an HP pavilion desktop, and an apple airport. Whenever I connect my desktop to the router, it stops sending its signal out. It simply stops appearing on the list of networks. It comes back if I restart it, but then will disappear again after 10 or so minutes. I'm using windows 7, and a Belkin USB adapter. The problem appeared after doing a factory reset. While it is not broadcasting, there is a green light still on on the front of the airport, and I can see other wireless networks.

I have 2 laptops and a Mac that are all running fine and can recognize the wireless signal but for some reason, the desktop PC suddenly won't recognize the wireless. I have tried a system restore, no good. I have tried to load a different Intel wireless network adapter and downloaded a driver from the laptop I have that is connected, but still no dice. I thought it was a radio hardware switch that accidently got turned off, but I can't find anything on the keyboard or tower that looks like it would turn it back on. Running out of leads.

Aug 19, 2012I have a HP desktop Pavilion p6531 p-b (Windows 7) that is hardwired to a Linksys 2500 Router. Internet worked fine until this morning where it can't connect at all. It can pick up the Wireless connection from the router but I can't get it to go online even wirelessly (although I am not sure if I'm doing that part right). I called my ISP and they reset the modem, etc as well as bypassing the router and we still cannot connect to the web. We looked at the Network Center and made sure that in the Local Area Connection, the Internet Protocol Version properties all have "Obtain address" and "Obtain DNS server" automatically checked. At that point their tech support was stumped.

Since installation of the new router I keep getting dropped from my LAN and the internet with "connectivity issues" ... this only occurs on my notebook PC and not the other wireless devices I have in my home. Apr 3, 2011Had a look inside my HP Pavilion p6685l recently and found there wasn't any wifi card which was odd because it's been working fine for months.Device Manager says theres a 802.11n Wireless Lan Card in there but I traced the wires from the ariel to a chip on the board (MSI 2A9C according to Belarc ). Property sheet says it's a Ralink Card and so does the vendor id ( 1814 ) but the device id (3092) belongs to an Intel I20 1.5 Raid Controller which is where I got lost. I didn't know Raid Controllers did wifi.

Also I can access internet with an ethernt cable and my phone and other computer can detect my wireless router. The wireless light is also continually orange and will not change. So neither bluetooth or wireless is working. I have down loaded the 2 Broadcom drivers from the HP website but neither fix the problem. However the bluetooth driver says something like 'Driver failed to install because no bluetooth device was found'.

At the beginning of the year, my parents bought me an extremely long ethernet cable ( about 15 feet I'm guessing). I have been using this ethernet cord with no problems up until now. I find it difficult to maintain the long cord as it gets tangled everywhere and I switch it between my laptop and my xbox (I can't get a switch to work). After prolonged switching between the xbox and the laptop the little tab thing that you push broke off and the cable starts to slide and disconnects me from the internet. I decided to get another ethernet cable and I tried connecting it but my laptop does not detect the cable and I do not see any lights turn on like my other ethernet.
