WNR1000v3 - Netgear Router Dropping Internet Connection?
Feb 8, 2012
I have a Netgear WNR1000v3 router. I have two computers connected with a wired connection and a couple of different devices that I connect with using the wireless connection. (Phone, Laptop, Ipad). The wired connections work fine but the wireless connection will only connect to the internet for a very short time (seconds) and then drop off. If I wait long enough I will pick it back up again. But again, for only a very short time. I have tried all the reboot procedures without any success. If I reboot the laptop, Ipad, etc., that seems to get me a connection, again for a very short time. I've checked the lights on the router and everything there says its OK. It seems to have to difference how far I am from the router. I've put the computer right next to it without success. Is the router going bad? It's only about 4 months old. Because I don't use the wireless feature often, I can't tell you if it ever worked or not. It seems to me like I was able to keep a connection when I first hooked it up but I'm not sure.

I have a Dell Studio 1745 Laptop and its only a few years old, I recently upgraded my router to be wireless a year or so ago and have had a few d/c issues here and there but mostly has not been a problem.Recently I have had tons of d/c issues while playing warcraft or browsing the internet in general, anything really. So I made the mistake of recently updating my WNR1000V3 router's firmware from my laptop's wireless connection. After I did this I saw all sorts of warnings (none built into the firmware itself, sigh) that this was a big no no.
Since then my d/c issues have been horrible but what it does now is my connection will be completely normal then all of a sudden my wireless access point will switch to 'No Internet Access' and it will drop my internet. The only way I can get it back is to go into the other room and reset the router by either unplugging it, or pressing the reset button on the back, once it reboots and everything, my laptop sees the connection again, and it has Internet Access fine.Soo I went and made the problem much worse, the lame part of the situation is before I had this firmware issue I was getting this problem anyways.
I decided if I could flash a older version of firmware to the router using my desktop that is wired to the router I could then reupdate it to the current version,I found a old firmware version on netgear.com and went to upload it through the router login for my router, it then said the file format was unrecognizable or not the right one (it was a .img file). I even tried to mount the file and explore it, no go. I found another firmware version older than that and attempted to flash that to the router and it began to update, then gave me a warning that this firmware was older than my current, I click yes and my internet drops and the update never happens.
So if I did screw the modem up this way I have no idea how to fix it now I have reset it to factory settings but this doesn't affect the firmware version. I suspect the firmware has something to do with the recent problems because I have seen the 'Congratulations, You have setup your router and are connected to the internet" like 20 times these past 48 hrs.I downloaded Xirrus wifi inspector and have it running now.I tried the ip flush and release stuff, and a bunch of tricks ive seen on other forums. My system is Windows 7 with a Intel wi-fi link 5100 AGN network adapter. I have tried rolling back that network driver and messing with the advanced and tcp/ip settings.

I have a router and its settings can be accessed by going to 192.168.1.1, I also know that there are other users that are able to access this page and change the settings when they connect to the wireless router. What I want is to block the wirless router page on computers that connect to my wifi except for 1 computer which would be mine. I've tried to put the password but to no avail the password is easily guessed or cracked and settings are changed. But is there a way to block the Wireless router setting page on computers that connect to the wifi network?I have a Netgear Wireless Router WNR1000v3 N150.

I just updated the firmware on the WNR1000v3 router. However all the port forwarding configs that were set up previously have become "ghosts". They do not show up on the list nor work, but I cannot add a new entry.

Internet connection seems like it drops and comes back up every couple of seconds. Not just little drops, wont load a web page and lag me out of games drop. Usefully only for a few hours at most. But its been a full day this time. Ive been searching all all over the place and nothing is working. So with that I have a Netgear WNA3100 picking up wireless from my land lords up stairs. Not sure their router Id but Im pretty sure the problem is on my end. Ive downloaded and reinstalled updated driver, and I have "excellent" connection all the time, according to windows and netgears software. Ive tried pinging and I only lost one packet once (at yahoo.com) out of probably 100 pings, literally Ive been sitting here for a while, to the ip and some sites.

I have a NetGear WNR-1000 wireless G router. I currently only have 1 computer hooked up but I have had 3 computers hooked up to it before. It doesn't matter what internet it's connected to or how it's connected to the modem itself. I have had DSL and Cable hooked up to it and I am currently using it as a secondary router behind my roommates old Wireless B router. He currently has all of his things hooked up via ethernet and wirelessly to his router. So, im download the xirrus wifi inspector thing. It doesn't matter the OS either. I've had XP sp3, vista, and 7 all hooked to it and it's the same all the way around and it doesn't matter the kind of wireless card either!

I have a Netgear DG834G v3 ADSL router which I have had since early-2007.
When I work from home I connect to office networks on a Win7 machine via a Rackspace-provided VPN using Cisco System VPN Client 5. It works well, except for one issue that is costing me time every working day.
I get intermittently disconnected from the VPN, without any warning or apparent reason.
Since I bought the router 5-6 years ago I have had no need to update firmware, so other than ISP configuration I have had no need to change the router at all and I can say it's worked well for me.
What would be the reason for my VPN connection dropping? Is this an ISP issue (my ISP is Carphone Warehouse/TalkTalk) that I have to take up with them or is it more likely a hardware problem with my router or a VPN configuration issue?
My instincts are to not look into VPN config at the moment as I know a colleague who uses the same VPN through a different router and ISP can stay connected for hours, even overnight.

I have installed the netgear N900 dual band which is 99 and is working fine on 2.45ghz because I have a belkin g range extender as my house is very long. So everything is working and my computer works but every so often the Internet drops so the modem needs turned on and off to get back on the Internet even though my computer says its connected but not loading any pages. It works fine for a while then sometimes drops, it works fine until I use my Mac books or iMac but works fine with iPhones? What can I do ?

I purchased a New Netgear N150 wireless Router 2 weeks ago and now my internet on my laptop keeps going down.. As Far as I can tell When it drops its still connected to the Wireless network.. it just says local only and Gives me the limited connectivity warning.. When I diagnose the issue it tells me a number of different things and it tells me to renew the IP settings and sometimes that will work and sometimes not.. The laptop is a HP Pavilion DV9000 with all original hardware.

My router at work is working fine, at least for LANing...as for its connection to the internet, it keeps dropping the connection. The router will be connected to the internet for say an hour or 2, sometimes more, and then it drops the connection. Usually a router restart(either from the web interface or by pressing the on/off button) fixes it, but only for a while.

My internet connection keeps dropping when using my router. I will have internet connection for a few hours and then it will drop. I thought it was a bad router (I had a Netgear N300 that is about 2 or 3 years old) so I bought a new Cisco Linksys EA2700 N600 router and the same thing happens. I can connect to the internet through just the modem and it works fine. Is is just a setting or something? BTW, I have an Arris cable modem that is several years old and my ISP is Suddenlink, and am running Windows XP Professional SP3.

We have a dlink DIR 615 router that keeps dropping the internet connection. I checked with our internet provider about the connection and it is fine. The desktop has no internet issues just the wireless devices. We run a laptop, iPod, cell phone and tablet. Everything was fine until we added the phone and the tablet.

I don't know where to begin but I have about 4 land lines to the router, and 2-3 wireless computers. But what I notice is that the internet connection is very slow and things drop. My downloads would be incomplete, and streaming is terribly slow. My torrent downloads will always reset. Simply put, this type of internet connection is terrible.

I recently changed my internet connection from a very slow adsl connection (im a LONG way from the exchange) to a moderatly faster vdsl connection. With the upgrade, they force me to use a modem that looks like it was made 20 years ago (although they say its had all the internals upgraded a month ago) leaving me to use a seperate router for wireless signal. I bought a bellkin F9K1002 v3 and after a little hassle had it up and running, the network connection between all the systems is great, but the router drops the internet connection every 30-120 seconds, for 15-20 seconds each time. I have about 10 devices connecting, but problem is there with just 1 connection wired or wireless.
I've tried calling my ISP (who will not touch router settings) and belkin tech support (who sound like they touched their first computer about 22 seconds ago) with no improvement. I've connected directly to the modem and had perfect connection for 12 hours, ruling it out of the equasion. I've disconnected all systems but one at a time, trying on 3 systems, with no improvement. I've turned off firewall, WPS, tried multiple wireless settings (channels and such) updated firmware all with no improvement. Here's a sample of the system log on the router:

PADS

I had the 2 Wire Box that received TV and internet. Called my ISP and they gave me this access point to use instead. I hooked it up and it was fine for about 2 weeks. Suddenly for no reason it started dropping. Noticed it first when online gaming on my PS3. Checked laptop and all wireless devices down. Takes about 30 seconds.

Wired connection to the router works fine. But it drops all the wireless devices (PC, phone, tablet) multiple times each day, sometimes only 30-60 minutes after reconnecting. Power cycling the router "fixes" the router and allows reconnection. There are 2 topics in the FAQ section that looked good: Getting poor or no signal from a wireless routerTop causes of dropping wireless connection on a Linksys routerbut clicking on those does not bring up anything.

Set up: Router: WRT110 1 computer connected via ethernet cable 1 computer using a wireless nic card from cisco
The problem is thus: if the first computer is actively using the internet (even activities as mundane as browsing one's email) the computer connected wirelessly will lose its connection to the internet yet maintain its connection to the router. Both can be actively using the internet, but the wireless will seemingly at random drop internet access (usually in 30-120 minute intervals).
The computer connected via the ethernet cable was unplugged for a week and during that time the wirelessly connected computer was used extensively and did not lose connection once.
I don't understand how to even frame this problem in a concise manner, much less seek information as to how to resolve it. It's seemingly giving all priority to the computer connected via ethernet but I that's just intution speaking.

I recently changed the security mode on my router from WEP to WPA2 Personal. However, since that change, I've noticed that the wireless devices, 2-laptops, are intermittently loosing their connections. . I don't know if it has anything to do with the security mode change, but I don't want to go back to WEP for obvious reasons.

I've been using my Linksys WRT54GC for couple years now, and only recently have I started to have significant issues with the device. I'm using a 2012 Macbook Pro, and my internet connection seems to be randomly dropping every now and then. Sometimes it works just fine for couple of hours only dropping once or so, sometimes it starts dropping literally every few seconds. What I usually do is quickly restart my wifi and the connection comes back right away. I also tried not doing that, and the internet connection tends to come back up after a minute or so.
I have read countless topics, also tried many things: changing MTU, the thresholds in router settings, security modes (it seemed to have worked fine after I changed it to WPA, not anymore though. I'm using no password now and it doesn't fix the problem either), changing the channel (my strongest signals around are on channel 1 and 11, thus I left mine on 6), I even reset the router today (held the reset button for 10 seconds~) but it didn't work either. I didn't upgrade the software since I heard stories about the software available on this site being corrupted or something, bricking the router, which is the last thing I'd want (I'm running on 1.00.7 now).
I have the impression (but it's just an impression, it might as well not be the case, and just me trying to find out when it happens, since it's not always that it breaks the connection while doing that) that it breaks the connection on high load, I mean when I'm for example using skype and facebook, and then try to go on reddit at the same time - the reddit webpage won't load, and the connection is lost after few seconds. But it also started dropping every few seconds while I was playing an online game and skyping at the same time today, which isn't a particularly huge problem for a 23Mbps download and 1.5 upload speed internet I suppose, and which it never did before. I have never had such issues with my PC using a Linksys USB adapter. The connection would drop from time to time when, for example, accidentally going on pages with lots of thumbnail pictures, or trying to load 15 tabs of jpgs at the same time, it was never that much of a problem really though, I just thought it's normal.

my e4200 wireless. I have internet connection speed of 40mb and I have epc 3925 working in bridged mode as modem and E4200 as router. When I connect my laptop with wire on e4200 I am getting 37-38 Mbps on speedtest.net which is perfectly fine. But on wireless I am having a lot of dropping of speed: I have 2mps then jumping to 5-6 Mbps and so on it never goes more than 5-6 Mbps. When I disable WMM Support in QoS I am having perfectly constant 20mbps but... I have only g network 54mbps. [code]

I've recently purchased the EA3500 dual band wireless-N router to replace my old and somewhat tired WRT54GS. The old router worked, I just decided to upgrade to wireless-N since all of my devices are now capable. My ISP is Comcast and I use a Motorola SB 6120 cable modem. After an extremely easy setup of the new router last week, I experienced one full day of glorious speedier network and internet traffic. However, roughly 24 hours after installation I started experiencing intermittetent internet connectivity issues. As in - the cable modem is accessible for 2 minutes and then can't be found for 2 minutes, repeat forever.
After multiple different troubleshooting steps, including rebooting both the modem and the router together, separately, and releasing and renewing the router's IP Address through the router's admin page, I finally ended up resetting the router back to factory defaults and letting Windows 7 guide me through the re-installation rather than using the provided "easy setup" CD from Cisco.
This seemed to have worked, but 2 days later, my "every 2 minutes" issue returned.
Something important to note here is that all of my devices - both wired and wireless - are able to communicate with each other without issue. For example - while I have no access to the cable modem, I am able to stream music from a wired desktop through a wireless laptop to a wireless receiver connected to my TV. I am also able to access the router's admin tools during my connectivity issues.

I have a home network with a Linksys E4200 connected to the ISP's fiber box. The problem is that when I'm connected to the Linksys, either wired or wireless, the connection to the internet will drop after what seems to be a random amount of time (normally anywhere from 2-10 minutes). I can restore the connection by doing any of these things:-reboot Linksys-disconnect and reconnect cable from router to fiber box-if on wireless connection, make changes to the router wifi settings, like change the wifi channel. The internal network stays up, and I can ping both the internal and external ip of the router, but not the fiber box. I have also had the same behavior with an Edimax Wifi AP and less frequently with a Edimax router (once every 1-2 days). I have done everything I can think of:-changed the wifi channels-changed the ip ranges, subnets, turned router DHCP off and back on-booted the fiber box-changed cables-updated all routers to the latest firmware, the network cards with latest drivers...and loads other things that I don't remember right now. For the wifi side of things, there are no other networks in range that could interfere. The same problem occurs on both my and wife's Win 7 laptops and on the iMac (latest OSX). Here's a fun detail: while the Linksys has lost its connection to the internet, I can still access the internet through the old Edimax router connected to the same fiber box, either wired or wireless.

I've recently picked up a E4200 to build a dual band network which is targeting to link up (TV, media server, ps3, laptops) then (maintaining phones etc which only has b/g). While currently only laptops. Before doing any of these I have another cisco modem router DPC3825 which worked fine with giving wireless access.I first attemped to leave the modem router has is and connected the E4200 (ethernet 1 to internet), and changed ip to x.x.0.1 and x.x.0.2 while disabling wireless on the dpc3825 and the DCHP on the e4200 and have default gateway to x.x.0.1. My laptops can connect to wireless on E4200 but it couldn't get internet access.
Then I tried turning the modem to bridge mode & resetted E4200 (factory setting x.x.1.1, auto DHCP), and then connected my devices to both wireless bands. At this point I see router status obtained ip from ISP and Internet reached full speed per ISP's mark but the connection only held up for about 1 minutes. I noticed all the devices still maintained connection to router wirelessly but the router loses internet connection (lost the ip and couldn't get it back).

I live out in the country at the end of a very long copper cable and my internet connection is never great at the best of times. Also live in an old house with thick walls so the family are always complaining about the poor wireless connection. So I bought a new router, netgear DGN3500, which on the whole seemed pretty good out of the box, but now it is randomly dropping the internet connection. Sometimes this is solved by rebooting the router, but just now this didn't do it and only turning it off completely for 30" and turning it back on again gave me back my connection (DownStream Connection Speed 3680 kbps, UpStream Connection Speed 416 kbps - which is as good as it gets on the end of my phone line).

I live in an area that has no cable or dsl internet available. The only options are basic dial up or wireless internet through one of the cell phone companies.Right now I use verizon with a usb adapter.I have had this since moving here.It gets good speed and I share it witht the other 4 pcs in my house through a 5 port switch using windows xp's ics(internet connection sharing)We mainly use the internet for playing games together online.Recently though i have wanted to upgrade to a wireless network.I feel as if I 'm living in the stone age because everyone else I know is using wireless.Last night I went out and purchased a netgear n750 duel band router(model number wndr4000-100nas) after reading several guides online about how to set it up.It sounded easy enough but after 3 hours I still could not get it working.
Here is what I am trying to do.I want to basically turn the router into a switch by disabling it's routing function and let the pc that has the verizon wireless card be the host and hand out ip addresses to the other pcs.(like it is doing now)Problems I am having
1- keep getting the work offline popup when I click on anything in the router control panal(it say you are not connected to the internet would you like to connect or continue to work offline I hit work offline and it just pops up again when I click something else)
2- I think I found how to change the router's ip address and disable DHCP under lan controls but when I hit save it pops up saying I need to manually change my pc's ip address and it will not save.
I am using winxp32 sp3 and right now 5 gigabit wire lan cards.(though if I get this working I'm going to pick up wireless card for 4 of the pcs.)
